House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel series that debuted on HBO and Max in 2022 and is returning soon, focuses on House Targaryen, generations before the events of the original Game of Thrones series.
They are, of course, the ancestors of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), one of the main characters on Game of Thrones, whose series-long plot was about wanting to recapture her family's throne.
While House of the Dragon focuses on that particular family, we did get occasional glimpses of other familiar houses in the first season of that show, including the Baratheons. Also, there are fleeting mentions of Houses such as Arryn and Stark.
While the members of House Stark were among the most important characters throughout Game of Thrones, none of the Starks were major characters In the first season of House of the Dragon.
However, it appears that it is about to change.

European powerhouse Mediawan has acquired Leonine, a leading production and distribution group active in German-speaking markets.
With the acquisition of Leonine, Mediawan will boast a portfolio of 85 labels, a catalogue spanning 30,000 hours of premium content and revenues exceeding €1.3 billion ($1.4 billion). Mediawan’s worth is now believed to be in the $2-billion range. The deal is an all-stock transaction; both companies have the same shareholder, the U.S. private equity fund Kkr whose stake in Mediawan will still be below 50%, according to a source close to the company.
Mediawan now has a significant footprint in all major European markets, including German-speaking territories which represent the continent’s second largest TV market. The pact positions Mediawan as one of the world’s biggest super indies with a large proportion of scripted business across prestige series and movies. Mediawan now spans 13 countries including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Benelux and the U.K.

Scripted formats were placed front and center of BBC Studios’ panel at Series Mania, as the Doctor Who seller confirmed it is making up to three more versions of Ghosts and has bought Spain’s Brutal Media.
One of the hit BBC show’s creators, Simon Farnaby, recently told a podcast the show – which has achieved smash ratings on CBS in the U.S. – is being remade in Germany and Spain.
Matt Forde, who runs BBC Studios Global Entertainment, confirmed “there are two or three other versions in the works.”
“We love those shows and love the UK versions,” said Forde. “We are finding ways into these worlds in local creative communities.” Ghosts was recently renewed for a fourth CBS season, although the BBC version has ended.
Deadline revealed recently that BBC Studios’ deal with Lionsgate, which spawned the likes of Ghosts, had elapsed, but Forde was bullish about the scripted formats game.

It’s straight in at the deep end with Bertie Carvel. The London actor, who was once the most hated man in the country as Suranne Jones’s cheating suburban hubby in Doctor Foster, is speaking to me about the second season of his Channel 5 detective drama, Dalgliesh. He appears over Zoom from the Hampstead house he grew up in, which he moved back into with his wife during the pandemic. That must have provided some comfort in uncertain times, I proffer. He tilts his head sideways. “Well, it was distressing in some ways, because we moved back here because my mum had passed away.” Oh, right. “It was a lot to encounter all of your history in that way, but amazing, too.” Around the same time, Carvel’s son was born. “I was looking back over my life as he was starting his,” he says. “It was sort...

What is a “makjang” K-drama? The TV series genre is best described as having exaggerated plots that “take things too far.” Fans will see dramatic characterizations, scandalous affairs, and intense murderous drama, often revolving around the filthy-rich elite who can get away with it all. Netflix’s revenge K-drama The Glory can be categorized as one, but there are plenty more to enjoy.

Exclusive: Gary Oldman has found “great joy” in playing the Falstaffian, flatulent-sharing, British espionage operative Jackson Lamb in Apple TV+’s Slow Horses, which has just launched season two. Meanwhile, the Harry Potter star confirmed he will play Harry Truman in one scene in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Lank-haired Lamb plays the operative in charge of a host of lost causes exiled out of harms way to Slough House where they wind up defending the realm from harm.
Lamb looks shambolic in shabby raincoat, weather-proofed by beer stains and slops of Kung-pao chicken, and yet you can never underestimate him.
”I don’t know how nice Jackson is really,” he tells Deadline. “I think that rather than seeking a career in the spy world, the spy world finds you. And so he is loyal and has a very strong sort of moral compass and is in a very questionable career...

It was one of the most uncomfortable moments in recent television history. Comedian Seann Walsh and professional dancer Katya Jones are sitting opposite Zoe Ball, the host of Strictly Come Dancing’s sister show It Takes Two. Jones seems on the verge of tears; Walsh seems irritable, defensive. Neither of them wants to be there. “I’m sorry for the hurt that I caused,” says Walsh, grimacing. “I regret it deeply.” Then, later in the same interview: “I’m not the person I’m being portrayed as.”
This is 10 October 2018, four days after photos of Walsh and Jones kissing on a night out were splashed across The Sun’s front page. Walsh – who’d performed at the Edinburgh Fringe and made frequent appearances on panel shows such as Mock the Week – was one of the celebrity contestants on the hit TV dance contest. Middle East’s Mbc Strikes Wide-Ranging Deal With Turkey’s Medyapim & Ay Yapim; ‘Doctor Foster’ Remake Deal With The BBC
Leading Middle Eastern media firm Mbc Group has struck wide-ranging content agreements with Turkish production companies Medyapim and Ay Yapim, and is remaking British drama following a deal with BBC Studios. The five-year partnerships – unveiled today at Mipcom Cannes – will see Turkish content offered exclusively on Mbc channels and streaming service Shahid through first-look and volume deal agreements, along with original Arabic-language originals produced for the Mena market. Some titles will get wider distribution via Shahid’s international reach. Sam Barnett, CEO of Mbc Group, said: “It’s no secret that Turkish content is extremely popular with Mena audiences – it’s a genre that has been rising in popularity in this region since the early noughties.” Medyapim will remake Suranne Jones drama Doctor Foster, having already rebooted in Turkey as Sadakatsiz.

Meet any high-profile Indian director or producer these days, and the talk is all about bibles, writers rooms and showrunners, rather than making films. Driving down Mumbai’s main artery, the Western Express Highway, most of the billboards are promoting new premium drama series from Prime Video, Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar, rather than the latest Bollywood release.
Of course, the shift of talent from film to episodic is happening everywhere in the world, but in the fast-paced, opportunistic environment of the Hindi-language content industry, these trends have become supercharged. Netflix and Amazon moved in here around 2016, local broadcasters fought back with their own streaming services—Hotstar (now Disney+ Hotstar), SonyLiv, Viacom18’s Voot and ZEE5—and the demand for premium drama series started to skyrocket, as competitors tried to differentiate themselves in an overcrowded field.

In 2019 “Killing Eve” lead Jodie Comer triumphed as Best Drama Actress on her very first Emmy nomination, notably defeating her co-star Sandra Oh, who was then on her eighth career acting bid. The 26-year-old thus became the all-time youngest Best Drama Actress winner and held that record until the very next year, when she was beaten on her second outing by Zendaya. Now that she has been recognized for her work on the final season of “Killing Eve,” Comer stands behind only Peggy Lipton (“The Mod Squad”) among the youngest women to amass three Best Drama Actress nominations.

Comer has submitted the season four “Killing Eve” episode “Don’t Get Eaten” for Emmy consideration. In the installment, which aired on BBC America in March, she plays both regular character Villanelle and a Christ-like apparition with whom Villanelle interacts.

South Asian streaming service ZEE5 Global is adapting BBC drama Press as local series The Broken News, as part of a wider deal with BBC Studios.
ZEE5 and BBC Studios will work on a slate of slate of Hindi-language ZEE5 originals, beginning with a remake of Doctor Foster writer Mike Bartlett’s 2018 BBC drama.
Unlike the British original, the plot will switch from print news rooms to broadcast news companies. It will follow two rival news channels — the independent, ethical news channel Awaaz Bharati and Josh 24/7 News, which offers sensationalist and invasive journalism, and what transpires between the main characters in their quest for news.
The Broken News will also mark actor Sonali Bendre’s first streaming role, with director Vinay Waikul attached alongside the likes of Jaideep Ahlawat, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Indraneil Sengupta.
The original series came from BBC Studios and its subsidiary Lookout Point along with Deep Indigo...

Taron Egerton returned to play the lead in Mike Bartlett’s play Cock last night after fainting during Saturday’s debut performance.
The Welsh Rocketman star passed out towards the end of the preview at the Ambassadors Theatre in the West End and was replaced by an understudy, Joel Harper-Jackson, while a doctor in the audience attended to him. There was a brief delay during which director Marianne Elliot explained the situation.
Egerton subsequently posted on Instagram Sunday stating that he would be “back with a vengeance tomorrow night” and he confirmed on Monday on Instagram that the show had gone without a blip. Footage on Twitter showed him bowing at the end of last night’s preview performance.
He wrote on Sunday: “As some of you may have heard, I passed out during the first performance of Cock last night. I am completely fine. Slightly sore neck and a...

Seven Network in Australia is this week to begin broadcasting “Police Strike Force,” a documentary series made in close partnership with the New South Wales police. The 6×60 minute series is produced by Wtfn and licensed internationally by Fred Media. Premiering on Channel 7 and 7plus from Wednesday, the show depicts real-life police investigations, stings, and taskforce operations. The narratives are recounted by the men and women who broke each case and are copiously illustrated using video and sound captured by the police media unit, combined with surveillance, search and interview footage taken by the investigating units. Wtfn also recently produced eight-part “Code 1: Minute by Minute” sister show, also for Seven. Each episode tells the story of a single crime incident, including one covering the 2017 Bourke Street Mall tragedy in Melbourne, when a man murdered six people by deliberately ramming his car into a busy shopping mall. – Patrick Frater...

James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, the long-time custodians of the iconic spy, have said the prospect of replacing Daniel Craig isn’t something they’re entertaining until 2022.
In an interview on BBC Radio 4’s popular Today program on Monday morning, the half-siblings and heads of Bond outfit Eon Productions were asked if they have decided who might replace Craig’s 007.
“Oh, God no,” said Broccoli. “We’re not thinking about it at all. We want Daniel to have his time of celebration. Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”
As for whether Craig, who has played Bond for 15 years, might have a say about the next iteration of the British spy, Wilson said, “He’s been such a great Bond. Those are big shoes to fill. I can’t even [think if it’s] possible.”
