He's Gone!!!!!!
wandernn1-81-68327427 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
We begin with Roper explaining to Andrew Birch, who he is. Interrupted by Jed who reminds Roper that Danny is leaving for the airport. When Danny says goodbye to Thomas/ Pine / Andrew, Jed rudely throws a wrench into the convo by telling Danny that Thomas is no longer Thomas, he's Andrew. Roper does not appear pleased.

Next we're back with Burr as she meets with Apostol the man who lost his daughter. Burr shows him the documents /evidence she has in hand now about the arms . In order to ply him over to her side as an informant. The wheels are really starting to turn now against Roper.

Jed sneaks over to Andrew's house in the villa. Jed wants to know why Andrew was snooping around in Roper's office. And then the unthinkable happens!!!! Jed kisses Andrew!!!! OMG NO!!! But he resists!! And he tells her, that she needs to be nice to Roper. And make him believe it!

Back in London, Mayhew is forced off the road by vans while on his bike, and he gets upset! He tells Burr that her budget is tripled and she can handpick more people to work with her on her case!!

Roper gets back to the villa and he's really interested in what Andrew has been up to while he's been gone!!! Jed comes out to greet Roper. And they go OFF together. Corky confronts Andrew and tells him that he knows about Jed coming down his house while Roper was away.

Next we have a scene at a restaurant where the 'family' is having lunch. Corky has a bit of a meltdown and the scene is sorted out by Andrew Birch, who Corky refers to as a 'HAND GRENADE' THATS about to go off and Roper doesn't see it.

+1 Star for Corky's meltdown scene

Jed wants to know who is this man?? Is he Andrew Birch?? Is he Thomas Quince?? Is he Jonathan Pine?? Then she wants to go up to his hotel room. Ruh Roh... They are finally doin' it now!! This should end very very badly for both of them. I certainly loved Kevin' Costner's Revenge!!!! Haha..

+1 Star for the epic mistake of doin' it with the boss's girl.

Back at London HQ... Mayhew is told by his superior to reassign Burr. Mayhew reveals the progress being made by Burr on the Roper Case. Mayhew's superior alerts others what she learned and the beans are spilled everywhere. This puts the Spanish Lawyer that Burr recruited at risk.

Roper and family are in Istanbul. Booked into Suites. Jed stupidly calls Andrew just to hear his voice. Yep that sleeping together is surely going to pay off!!

Andrew Birch certainly proves to be savvy at this business deal stuff. The next day Roper and Birch oversee a large transaction of 'farm equipment'. Roper is very proud of his prodigy, Andrew Birch.

The English agents have surveilance of Jed's call to Birch during the night. They say since that information is out there his cover is blown.

So Burr tries to pull Andrew out, but Andrew is having none of it. He points out to Roper they are being watched and Roper and family evacuate the Hotel they are in immediately,

This episode ends with a 7/10

Corky's descent
safenoe18 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Here we see Corky really descending big time, and you can see things won't end pretty for him. Anyway, I like The Night Manager even though I never watched House, but still worth watching. Here we see Jonathan and Jed do the beast with two backs furtively in a hotel room, and we also see the contrasting skies of Spain and the UK (London to be precise).

Keeps things going
"The Night Manager" is two thirds gone, and things seem to be coming together. Roper has made Pine his man of straw on an arms deal, and Pine is more than happy to play the part. Angela keeps having problems and Jed has more than a passing interest in our protagonist.

Anything that happens in this episode is storytelling 101. There are not many surprises and it has been seen hundreds of times before, from Pine savvy personality, easy charm and resourcefulness, to Lance fall from grace. It happens too fast, actually, so fast that it is just a little bit of a stretch. That is what works the most against the episode, that Pine's rise seems a little bit rushed. Also there is the problem that Laurie's Roper is not much of a character actually, just your typical shady boss.

Nonetheless, the series keeps being entertaining enough, even if not original, and the acting is good. It is probably what saves it. It never falls into boring, but it should offer a little bit more to make it notable.

Is Tom Hiddleston a sex object???
laufeyson-6447513 March 2016
First of all, Susanne Bier is one of the worst directors working today. I'm sorry to say that, but she is just awful. The way she zooms the actors till their nostril hair is just despicable to watch and totally distracts from the story. I watch this series, because I love the novel and all novels by John le Carre in general. This series does definitely not deserve any praise, nor any positive review. The only reason why this series gets positive reviews, or rather high ratings is due to Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston. Just because you have good actors, doesn't mean that the quality of the series is equally good. What outrages me the most are the fan girls who tend to view everything subjectively and don't distinguish between bad and good, or average. In this case, it must be enough for them to see Hiddleston almost naked in every episode or active in a sexual intercourse? Is he a sex object? As far as I've read in an article, he is a feminist, so he wants to balance the nudity in films. However, he seems to use his body and his fan girls to achieve a huge fandom and bigger roles. His ass was also a huge advertisement while promoting Crimson Peak. That kind of conception surely is not about balancing nudity, but using nudity to become popular! This is exactly what many women do: Using their bodies beyond their talents! Sorry, I can't praise that. Especially not then, when Hiddleston is a very awkward kisser. Have read that several times on the internet, too.

Apart from that, the reason why Susanne Bier is a terrible director (which was actually proved with her miserable movie "Serena") finds evidence in the fact that in this episode she used the location Marrakech, Morocco as ISTANBUL!! Does she think that people don't know how Istanbul looks like? I've visited Istanbul many many times and the Haydarpasha port SURELY doesn't look like that, nor do the hotels look arabic or oriental. Go on, just google for yourselves! Plus, the license plate numbers were not Turkish. You thought nobody is going to notice? I'm actually pretty sure that this is against the law, and if someone from Turkey notices that they will take legal action against the director and the crew of this series! You can't just use the name of a city and film it somewhere else!

All in all, I can say that Hugh Laurie is terribly wasted in this series.
