- TriviaWhen Fisk takes Vanessa Marianna on a date, she describes a prince she dated once before, saying he wore a white suit and an ascot, to which Fisk replies: "Ascot? That's a bit much." This is a hint at the classic Kingpin look of the comics, where he often is depicted wearing exactly such an outfit.
- GoofsIn the restaurant, Vanessa tells Fisk she has a .22 caliber gun in her purse but when she lays it on the table it is obviously a .380 as evidenced by the barrel size.
- Quotes
Claire Temple: How do you... I mean, I know that you're blind, but you see so much. How?
Matt Murdock: I guess you have to think of it as more than just five senses. I can't see, not like everyone else, but I can feel. Things like balance and direction. Micro-changes in air density, vibrations, blankets of temperature variations. Mix all that with what I hear, subtle smells. All of the fragments form a sort of... impressionistic painting.
Claire Temple: Ok, but what does that look like? Like what do you actually see?
Matt Murdock: A world on fire.
- ConnectionsReferences King Kong (1933)
For majority of the episode, Murdock is chasing the lead to uncover Fisk's identity. He is gradually getting closer, although the bigger picture still eludes him. The rest of it is divided to two significantly different dates. Foggy and Page take on a case to help a lady who is facing eviction. An unfair large company wishes to buy her apartment and it has tried underhanded tactic to do so. It's quite nice to see them both exchanging banters as they try to resolve the situation, Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll have an intriguing chemistry, more platonic than romantic.
The parts where they deal with more trivial matters make the show more grounded. Dialogues are light and simple, same cannot be said with Fisk who is still trying to woe Vanessa. Ayelet Zurer as the potential love interest of mafia kingpin seems sophisticated. There's a strange attraction between these two characters, it's more somber and heavier than usual attraction although they still have the luxury of making pleasantries.
Fisk has a few insidious tricks, the sort of using harsh means to achieve his ends. He is a controlled and intellectual individual despite sometimes seemingly too timid. It's fascinating to see many contradicting natures for a villain, Fisk might appear to be well-mannered but he's also terribly relentless.
Whether Daredevil, Russians or Fisk who achieve what they want from the night, it seems that the spark will linger.
