Judy Sheindlin’s two court shows at CBS Media Ventures continue to carry on years after the popular TV personality left the CBS fold. Repeats of Judge Judy as well as the Sheindlin-created Hot Bench have been renewed in 95% of the country through the 2025-26 season.
In addition to flagship groups CBS Stations and Fox Stations, Judge Judy was re-upped by stations owned by Sinclair, Nexstar, Scripps, Tegna, Gray, Hearst and Weigel. Hot Bench was renewed by CBS Stations in major markets, as well as stations owned by Sinclair, Nexstar, Tegna, Scripps, Fox Stations, Gray and Weigel.
Together, Judge Judy and Hot Bench, the #1 and #2 syndicated court shows, account for 67% of all minutes watched in the nationally syndicated court genre, CBS Media Ventures said.

“Judge Judy” has extended her reign in daytime as CBS Media Ventures has renewed its package of vintage “Judge Judy” episodes and the first-run court show “Hot Bench.”
Both daytime strips have been renewed through the end of the 2025-26 season on TV stations covering 95% of U.S. TV households. “Judge Judy” has been a daytime syndication stalwart since 1996 and that hasn’t changed even after she stopped producing new episodes of the series in 2021, after the show logged its 25th year. “Judge Judy” reruns at present average about 6 million viewers a week and the show still commands top daytime time slots around the country.
“Hot Bench,” which features a panel of judges, is still actively delivering new episodes and is executive produced by “Judge Judy” star Judith Sheindlin. “Judge Judy” has been re-upped by stations owned by CBS, Sinclair, Nexstar, Scripps, Tegna, Gray, Hearst and Weigel. “Hot Bench” has been nabbed by Sinclair,...

There’s a new player entering the world of syndicated game shows.
CBS Stations has picked up the syndicated game show The Flip Side, hosted by Jaleel White (aka former Family Matters favorite Steve Urkel). The series will debut on CBS Stations across the country beginning in the fall.
The Flip Side will pit two teams of players against one another to “test them on how they think two different groups of people feel about the same issue. Teams choose from multiple choice answers, and whoever has the best intuition on human behavior will find themselves richer.”
“I have had fun being a celebrity contestant on numerous game shows, but I’ve always really wanted to be the host, giving people money and making their day!” White said in a statement announcing the series. “When I first heard this concept, I immediately wanted to be the ringleader of this entertaining,...

“Access Hollywood” executive producer Mauren Fitzpatrick will be leaving the show after four years, two individuals with knowledge told TheWrap.
Fitzpatrick began helming the NBC entertainment newsmagazine franchise in 2019, taking over running both the taped show and “Access Live” as longtime EP Rob Silverstein exited after 20 years in the position.
Fitzpatrick’s departure follows the exit of production executive Justin Batey, who served as senior executive in charge of production.
Fitzpatrick and Batey’s reasons for the exiting NBCUniversal are unknown at this time. An NBCU representative declined to comment for this article. We were unable to reach Fitzpatrick and Batey for comment.
First joining the franchise as a consultant in early 2018, Fitzpatrick helped develop several concepts and pilots for NBCUniversal’s syndication division, including overseeing development and pilot production for syndicated series “Judge Jerry” and managing development and production for Oxygen’s “Crime Time” pilot.

CBS Media Ventures President Steve LoCascio is retiring after 34 years at the company and its previous iterations as the division will become part of the portfolio of Wendy McMahon, named this morning as President and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures.
The consolidation is not surprising. LoCascio’s departure comes amid a seismic changes in the syndication business marked by a major contraction in first-run syndication, primarily in the talk shoe arena. CBS Media Ventures and CBS TV Distribution’s top shows, Judge Judy, Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray, all ended their long runs in the last few years. Judge Judy has charted a new path, with its reruns remaining a ratings leader.

ABC’s legendary sudser “General Hospital” is looking to defend its crown at the Daytime Emmys, landing 19 nominations this year — the most of any program — as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced contenders for the landmark 50th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
Last year, “General Hospital” was the big winner with five awards — including best daytime drama — as the telecast returned to a live, in-person event. This time out, NATAS first revealed multiple categories Tuesday night via various entertainment shows, and it looked like CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” — also in the middle of its 50th anniversary celebration — had taken an early lead.
But after all was tallied, CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful” was actually next in line, with 14 nods, followed by “The Young and the Restless” (13), NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” (11) and the most-honored non-serial, the syndicated “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” also with 11.

The “Ellen” show hit a season high in TV ratings with its “12 Days of Giveaways” kickoff during Thanksgiving Week. Sometimes when you give, you also receive.
The daytime talk show’s 1.3 national Live + Same Day rating is its highest since the “toxic workplace” scandal this summer.
The 1.3 rating was +18% from the previous week, according to Nielsen.
It should be noted here that Thanksgiving itself and Black Friday were not counted for many daytime shows, including “Ellen,” due to the holidays and the preemptions that come with them.
Ellen DeGeneres may not be totally thankful about the season-high, however. The Warner Bros. show’s ratings were still down 35% from the same week in 2019.
Topping the talk shows was “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” with a 1.9. “Dr. Phil” dropped 10% week to week and into second place. Dr. Phil’s talk show was among the few that did not get to back...

Ratings for Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show sunk to a new series low last month following a bombshell Buzzfeed News report about the toxic work environment behind the scenes.
“Ellen” reruns drew a 1.0 Live + Same Day household rating in the week ended July 26, 2020, according to Nielsen. That was down 9% from the prior week and a glaring -29% from the same week last summer.

The future of awards shows is now, as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) held the 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, announcing the winners of 19 of the 100 categories during a two-hour ceremony on CBS featuring the hosts — the women of CBS talk show “The Talk” — winners, and special guests appearing in taped appearance from the safety of their homes.
“Tonight, we did not let the worldwide pandemic of Covid-19 keep up from honoring some of the most talented contributors to our Daytime Television community,” president and CEO of NATAS Adam Sharp said in a statement. “We celebrated not only the best programming and performances of the last year, but reflected on the legacy of Daytime’s biggest moments and icons.”

Suddenly, the most-watched personality in daytime TV is a free agent.
Judith Sheindlin, better known as “Judge Judy,” surprised the industry with the news that surfaced Sunday evening that she is ending her run on the top-rated court show after the 2020-21 season, which will mark her 25th year on the show. Sheindlin now plans to launch a new gaveler in fall 2021, “Judy Justice.” But reruns drawn from “Judge Judy’s” vault of more than 5,000 episodes will continue to air in syndication for some time.
Sheindlin has teamed with former CBS executive Scott Koondel to handle the sale of the new series. The show is expected to be a similar format as “Judge Judy.” But it will not be aimed for broadcast syndication. The bet is that “Judy Justice” will command attention from a streaming service or major cable outlet that can craft an innovative distribution plan that blends linear and streaming platforms.

Nearly four years after Rebel Entertainment Partners took a CBS unit to court over millions in alleged missed contractually due payments from Judge Judy, the parties have come to a deal to dismiss the case.
Rebel attorney Sean Hardy of Freedman + Taitelman told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Rupert Byrdsong on Wednesday that “the case settled at mediation and the settlement agreement has been signed” (read it here). As is usual in such matters, no details of the settlement have been made public.
Neither CBS nor lawyers for the plaintiffs, who first filed their case in March 2016, responded to request for comment on the agreement. Rebel Entertainment Partners is the successor-in-interest to the talent agency that originally packaged the Sheindlin-fronted series.
However, I hear that while the matter may be resolved in one sense, there could be more scrimmages to come in the well-publicized dust-up. Even though L.A. Superior...

Judge Judy has been presiding over disputes on television for two decades, but a fight over profits from the hit series has quietly settled behind closed doors.
Rebel Entertainment Partners in March 2016 sued Big Ticket Entertainment, a division of CBS, claiming that Judy Sheindlin's $47 million salary was improperly being deducted as an expense and therefore denying the company its cut of the profits. Rebel, which is the successor in interest to the talent agency that packaged the series, also claimed it was unfairly shut out of a spinoff series called Hot Bench.

All that crime and punishment has given Judge Judy (Judith Susan "Judy" Sheindlin) a life of luxury. The Judge Judy host has accumulated wealth beyond comprehension over the years, thanks to her hit syndicated TV show and her latest show Hot Bench, which started in 2014. Sheindlin essentially has the monopoly on court TV, and it has given her a fabulous life, with a net worth estimated around an astounding $420 million. When she's not telling plaintiffs or defendants to put on their listening ears or reminding them that "ummm" is not an answer, the judge is living the good life in private. As she celebrates her 77th birthday on October 21, we decided to celebrate Sheindlin's...

CBS Television Distribution is moving ahead with a syndicated daytime talk show hosted by actress Drew Barrymore, which is on track for a fall 2020 launch.
The CBS Television Stations, which represent 38% of the U.S., have signed on as an anchor station group to launch the new show. That includes flagships Wcbs-tv in New York and Kcbs-tv in Los Angeles.
The pickup comes less than two months after Barrymore shot a pilot for the potential talker in New York. This marks the first daytime syndicated talk show for CBS TV Distribution in a very long time., It comes at a time when the genre is experiencing a resurgence with a strong launch for NBCU’s Kelly Clarkson talk show and a solid start for Disney’s Tamron Hall talker. Like the Drew Barrymore show, both were launched by their sister station groups.

The big series premiere for NBCUniversal’s Kelly Clarkson was not a fluke. The Week One averages for new and returning syndicated programs are in, and the new talker hosted by The Voice coach logged a 1.6 Live+Same Day national household rating for the week ending on Sept. 15, scoring the biggest debut week of any first-run strip since Disney’s Katie 2012.
The strong ratings catapulted Kelly Clarkson to the talk show elite, ranking fourth among 14 new and returning syndicated talk shows, behind only long-running juggernauts The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Live with Kelly & Ryan and Dr Phil.
Disney’s Tamron Hall (1.0), which has fewer secondary runs than Kelly Clarkson, topped in the ratings such established talkers as Wendy Williams and Dr Oz. Other than Kelly Clarkson, the Tamron Hall rating was the highest debut week for any first-run show since 2016 with the exception of the Steve Harvey reboot.

Jerry Springer presided over nearly 4,000 episodes of his infamous and eponymous daytime talk show.
Starting today, he is swapping the lie detector tests and tales of marrying horses for a more judicial environment as Judge Jerry launches across the country in syndication.
Springer, fresh from a keynote interview at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, tells Deadline how he was persuaded to dust off his law books, why he’d rather vote for a ham sandwich over Donald Trump and why he doesn’t want to retire.
The law is not a new area for Springer: He has a J.D. degree from Northwestern University and worked for two law firms before transitioning to politics and then television. But it wasn’t his idea to go back to it after hosting 3,891 episodes of The Jerry Springer Show across 27 seasons.

Drew Barrymore is eyeing a move into the daytime talk show arena.
The actress, who recently wrapped three seasons of the Netflix comedy “Santa Clarita Diet,” is shooting a pilot this week in New York for CBS Television Distribution.
Details of the hourlong show are still sketchy. Barrymore is among the executive producers of the pilot, likely through her Flower Films banner. Sources said there is no showrunner formally attached as of yet.
Barrymore circled a talk show deal with Warner Bros.’ Telepictures in 2016, but a pilot never came to fruition, in part because of a lukewarm response from prospective station groups at the time. The new regime at CBS’ syndication arm is said to have high hopes for the show and faith in Barrymore’s appeal as a daytime TV personality.

Decades ago while Judge Judy Sheindlin was working in family court, she recalls journalist Morley Safer asking her if she thought things would get better in the future. At the time, she says she told him she believed things would actually take a turn for the worse. Every day she was presiding over cases including drug-related struggles, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and she knew those struggles were timeless.
But because such struggles are timeless, so too is the syndicated courtroom series she launched in 1996, “Judge Judy.” The show has not only stayed on for 22 consecutive years, but has thrived in its past 10, averaging 10 million total daily viewers and ranking as the No. 1 rated show in syndication, even as the television landscape expands exponentially around it. Judge Judy Sheindlin easily topped Forbes’ list of the highest-paid daytime TV hosts for 2018.
Thanks to a lucrative deal that sold the rights to the thousands of episodes of her long-running courtroom show, Sheindlin took in an estimated $147 million pretax in the 12 months preceding June 2018, Forbes said.
That number is more than triple the $47 million she takes in annually as host of “Judge Judy” and producer of “Hot Bench,” and marks the first time Sheindlin has ever topped Forbes’ list.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has ruled that Judge Judy Sheindlin’s annual salary of $45 million is not unreasonable.
The ruling comes in a lawsuit brought by Richard Lawrence, a talent agent who receives a commission on “Judge Judy” profits. Lawrence, through his company Rebel Entertainment Partners, has accused Big Ticket Television and CBS of overpaying Sheindlin, thereby reducing his piece of the profits.
“That Judge Sheindlin is paid more than other television hosts does not establish her salary is unreasonable or that Defendants negotiated the salary in bad faith,” Judge Joanne O’Donnell wrote. “Plaintiff has presented no evidence that the salary was negotiated in bad faith or is unreasonable in light of the undisputed ‘resounding success’ of ‘Judge Judy’ and the fact that without its namesake star the show would not continue.”

“Judge Judy” is judge, jury and executioner of all other court TV shows.
Judge Judith Sheindlin just won her specific genre in Nielsen numbers for an incredible 1,100th straight week — that’s more than 21 straight years of ratings domination among court TV shows.
Someone bang a gavel to punctuate that achievement.
Per the latest-available numbers, the syndicated “Judy” was up 2 percent from the prior week, averaging a 6.7 syndication rating. That number nearly tripled her closest syndicated courtroom competition, “Hot Bench” (a 2.3, down 4 percent). Oh, and Sheindlin created.
