The Cult have shared two new songs under their Death Cult moniker, “Flesh and Bone” and “C.O.T.A.”
The tracks come after The Cult’s Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy revived the early incarnation of the band for a recent tour. Death Cult originally emerged from Asbury’s first band Southern Death Cult in 1983 once the singer joined forces with Duffy (eventually morphing into The Cult in 1984).
Described as post-punk/deathrock, Death Cult’s sound is a bit murkier and more cryptic than the big stadium-ready bombast Astbury and company injected into The Cult. As heard on “Flesh and Bone,” the band balances subdued instrumentation with harsher crescendos and a feeling of unease, which is even more palpable on the sparse, drum-machine-based “C.O.T.A.” (an acronym for “communion of the animals”).
The new songs are available digitally and on a 7″ vinyl single titled “Death Cult – 8323” that’s included as...

[Editor’s Note: This post contains spoilers for Foundation Season 2, Episode 1 “In Seldon’s Shadow.”]
The second season of Foundation, Apple TV+’s expansive adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s eponymous book series, could be subtitled “Flesh and Bone.” God-like figures become vulnerable, ideas take on a physical form, and people’s desires are on full display (the fullest; more on that in a bit). The more abstract notions from Asimov’s books — like psychohistory, a kind of math that predicts human behavior on a massive scale — are made more tangible in Season 2, as series creators David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman put new faces to this battle for the future of humanity, and give them all distinct motivations for joining the fight.

Amazon Prime Video has popped off with plenty of new content for March 2023 with original shows and some great catches for films to stream. “Top Gun: Maverick” will arrive March 24, and Jordan Peele’s “Nope” before that on March 21. Jordan will become available at the beginning of March along with all of the “Rocky” films as well as “Cinderella Man” for the broader boxing buff community. A theatrical release from 2022, “The Silent Twins,” starring Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrence arrives March 7.
Friday March 3 will see “Daisy Jones & The Six” rock the world when the band’s epic limited series comes out. Riley Keough, Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse, and more will bring Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling novel to life. Other shows to look forward to on the streamer are Donald Glover’s horror series...

With its list of new releases for March 2023, Amazon Prime Video might be rolling out its most impressive monthly lineup yet.
We know that sounds like something straight out of a press release but in this case, it’s actually true! Prime Video, bless it, has some excellent original titles like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but its monthly release updates have often been less inspiring than its TV peers. That’s certainly not the case with March 2023 though.
Prime Video gets its streaming party started early by premiering the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six on March 3. This series, based on a book of the same name, tells the fictional Behind the Music-esque story of an equally fictional band. Then, on March 17, Amazon’s partnership with Donald Glover bears its first fruit with the series about obsessive fandom called Swarm. Reggie Jackson documentary Reggie premieres...

March is still winter, no matter which animal you ask, which means it’s still completely acceptable to cancel all plans and curl up under a blanket in front of the TV. Prime Video’s movie library updates throughout the month, with most of its new additions on March 1 — including the “Rocky” saga, multiple “Carrie” adaptations, “12 Angry Men,” and more.
For Prime users who love books and TV, March means the highly-anticipated premiere of “Daisy Jones & the Six,” based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The eponymous Daisy (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne’s band (Sam Claflin) make a mean match, starting with a hit single and leading to what seems like endless fame and glory. But where there is success there is peril, and both the band’s rise and an electric connection with Daisy threaten Billy’s marriage and everyone’s personal lives. James Ponsoldt,...

As the Hollywood blockbuster machine continues to dust itself off and release some early winter hits, Hulu is going in a bit of a different direction with its list of new releases for November 2021.
There are no big Hulu original films of note this month. Instead there’s a whole host of original series. The TV parade starts on Nov. 5 with the release of Animaniacs season 2. Also getting a second season this month is monarchal comedy The Great on Nov. 19. The most intriguing series, however, is animated Marvel comedy Marvel’s Hit Monkey. As its name so graciously implies, this is a show about a hit monkey…as in monkey assassin. Naturally the hit monkey is haunted by the ghost of Jason Sudeikis because it’s important that everything make sense.
Though Hulu doesn’t have any original movies in November, its list of library movie titles is quite vast.

The Strand, New York City’s 93-year-old independent bookstore so familiar as an East Village literary signifier that it’s long been a go-to for filmmakers and location scouts, is in danger of closing, its owner says.

The following contains spoilers for NOS4A2 season 2 episode 7.
Despite having significant experience in the world of television, NOS4A2 showrunner Jami O’Brien, like the rest of us, isn’t quite sure where the industry is going to go. Today sees the DVD release of The Intruder, a new film in which Dennis Quaid plays the ex-owner of a house who doesn’t take too kindly to the new owners when he is forced to sell it. The psychological thriller was directed by Deon Taylor and written by David Loughery and gives Quaid the opportunity to terrify audiences with an intensity which marked out much of his best work. To that end Cai Ross looks back at some of his greatest roles.
For about 20 years, Dennis Quaid was Hollywood’s nearly-man. Following a break-out performance in Peter Yates’s wonderful cycling drama Breaking Away in 1979, it seemed that the world might just have found its new James Dean. Impressive performances in Walter Hill’s familial Western The Long Riders (alongside elder sibling Randy and a host of Keach and Carradine brothers) and Philip Kaufman’s epic space drama The Right Stuff,...

Netflix is taking you on a late summer I-Land getaway… but after watching the full trailer for the upcoming sci-fi series, you might wanna opt for a staycation instead.
The recently released glimpse at the thriller, previously teased in a Fyre Festival-inspired video, gives us more of a sense of what happens after 10 people wake up on a dangerous island and have no idea who they are or how they arrived at the tropical paradise. “Faced with the I-Land’s extreme psychological and physical challenges, they must rise to their better selves — or die as their worst ones,” the show’s official synopsis reads.

In the golden age of true crime content, we sure are getting a lot of Charles Manson. If you couldn't shake off Damon Herriman's chilling performance as the cult leader in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, you'll be terrified to know that he's slipping into the role again in season two of Netflix's Mindhunter.
While he's technically the same character, the mood and setting are definitely distinct in the two projects. On Mindhunter, Herriman portrays Manson in jail during the '80s, a stark contrast to Tarantino's colorfully nostalgic Hollywood in 1969. His reprisal of this role was purely coincidental. In fact, he shot and completed his performance for Mindhunter before Tarantino's announcement of the movie's cast. Despite this apparent conflict of interest, Tarantino gave him the stamp of approval to be the character in the movie.
Of course, Herriman isn't just the guy who plays Manson.

It is hard to believe that the forever youthful Dennis Quaid turns 65 on April 9, 2019. His successful film career that started close to 40 years ago was perhaps spurred by the success of his older brother Randy Quaid, who had left their Texas home and became an Oscar-nominated actor (he received a Supporting Actor nomination in 1973 for “The Last Detail”).
He dropped out of the University of Houston and moved to Los Angeles to also pursue a professional acting career. But on May 24th, he’ll release his first solo album, Turbulent Times, under the moniker Hundred Watt Heart. “Releasing it now comes from just wanting to finish what I started and frankly overcoming my fears of what people are going to think about it. Occasionally people have asked if I would ever do my own record,” the 46-year old says.

Joel Schumacher’s 1987 teen vampire horror The Lost Boys is an underrated gem. Sure, most of its awesomeness is down to a hugely charismatic young Kiefer Sutherland as the lead vampire, but that’s a casting that goes a seriously long way. It seems like someone at The CW’s as big a fan as I am, too, because they’re currently putting together the cast for a pilot that should herald a full-blooded Lost Boys TV show.
Already, we’ve heard of some exciting additions to the project and today, Deadline’s reporting that Flesh and Bone‘s Sarah Hay, Camping‘s Cheyanne Haynes and Bella and the Bulldogs’ Haley Tju are joining the roster, which so far includes former Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey and Kingdom alum Kiele Sanchez, with Medalion Rahimi (Still Star-Crossed) and Dakota Shapiro (Valley of the Boom) also having key roles. After the sudden death of their father, brothers Michael (Posey) and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother, Lucy (Sanchez), who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. Before Warner Bros. submitted ‘A Star Is Born” in drama at the Golden Globes, Lady Gaga had been the overwhelming favorite to win Best Comedy/Musical Actress — and could very well win Best Drama Actress as well if the submission is approved. Gaga famously won in 2016 for “American Horror Story: Hotel” and even more famously helped produce one of the greatest awards show moments of all time.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for “Anne With an E” Season 2, including the finale “The Growing Good of the World.”]
The character of Great Aunt Josephine Barry in the “Anne of Green Gables” books has always been a fan favorite because she seemed to truly understand and encourage the unique aspects of the orphan that transformed the lives of those in Avonlea. In the Northwood Entertainment-produced Netflix adaptation of “Anne With an E,” it’s revealed that her perception and empathy comes from her own personal struggles: Aunt Josephine (Deborah Grover) is gay.
Series creator Moira Walley-Beckett spoke to IndieWire about adding this extra dimension to the beloved literary character, as well as more realistic touches for Canada in the Edwardian period, and what she’s eyeing for Anne Shirley Cuthbert (Amybeth McNulty) in Season 3.
“Upon reading [the novel] again as an adult, I was wondering about Aunt Jo,” said Walley-Beckett. “In the book, she’s a...

Once Netflix decided to change the title of its “Anne of Green Gables” reboot from plain old “Anne” (ugh!) to “Anne with an E,” it proved itself to be a true “kindred spirit” to the poor literary orphan girl.
The beloved character from Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Canadian children’s novel “Anne of Green Gables,” on which the series is based, insists upon that particular spelling of her name because of its elegance. That insistence is also indicative of Anne Shirley’s boisterous personality, which demands that she be heard, that people pay attention, that she is special. Fortunately, Netflix listened and along with settling on a fitting title, the streaming service has also crafted a unique adaptation that is simultaneously faithful to the source material in appearance and story, while expanding the story to comment upon the ills of 1900s rural Canadian society. Showrunner/writer Moira Walley-Beckett (“Breaking Bad,...

But these are modern times, and thus, a new take is required — from showrunners Moira Walley-Beckett (“Breaking Bad,” “Flesh and Bone’) and Miranda de Pencier (“Thanks For Sharing,” “Beginners”), no less.

Here’s the official synopsis: “In a film for our times, writer-director David Michôd (“Animal Kingdom”) recreates a U.S. General’s roller-coaster rise and fall as part reality, part savage parody — raising the specter of just where the line between them lies today. His is an anti-establishment, pro-soldier exploration in the form of an absurdist war story of a born leader’s ultra-confident march right into the dark heart of folly.”
