The story of Kim Avis is a sad one, but maybe less interesting than it might seem. A man with some money who played the role of hippy-drifer and charity fundraiser, he sexually abused and otherwise coerced young women in his adopted city of Inverness. Then, facing criminal prosecution, he fled to the U. S., and made a rather weak attempt to fake his own death. This programme tells his story and is quite interesting although not particularly profound. Perhaps if you lived in Inverness and knew him as a local celebrity, you might feel different, but me this felt like the tawdry story of of a selfish and manipulatice chancer, a Jimmy Saville figure writ small.
