I had a bit of emotional turmoil with the poster for this movie when I was really young I was browsing the internet and somehow I came across the poster and got scared out of my mind. Years later I laughed it off because I'm not as squeamish to gore as I was back then. Just a fun story.
I decided to look the movie up years later and watch it
The story follows a group of people who wake up in a secure location who are being broadcast from a secure location to a website called Deadtube. A death live stream site that is pretty much untraceable leaving anyone who ends up on the website helpless and forced to play the games the twister masterminds behind the website throws at them.
It's very Saw-esque. Saw II to be more specific. But the thing that makes this a bit more on the horror side is the fact that the characters are there for seemingly no reason. Well there is a reason but it's so vague that you don't even really know by the end of the movie. All you know is that all of them have watched the show in the past but that's pretty much it.
I have to say though I don't feel like it's exactly a Saw "rip-off". It feels like it was inspired by Saw. Instead of having a deep morally questioning plot with devious traps that force you to go through pain. The games in this movie are more skill based, requiring characters to solve Rubix cubes, type a part of the Constitution, or even hula hoop. It's not very devious and at times it has a little bit of comedy. But that doesn't make it any less disturbing when it wants to be.
I have to say I felt a bit more attached to the characters in this movie then in Saw. Yes they do a lot of generic crap like guilt someone into liking the character just before they die in the next round. But I felt genuinely bad for the main character at the end.
The ending in particular gave me chills. It was very unexpected and it shows the disturbing side of the audience that's watching. It creeped me out. The chat basically gives the main character the wrong answer to what will get him out of the game and the movie just ends. I was expecting it but it was no less a pretty painful and disturbing end.
Anyways, yes it has cheesy acting, yes it's pretty low budget and that's apparent throughout the movie. But I found myself immersed. And it got some genuine emotions out of me. So I recommend you try watching it. At it's worse it's a low budget thriller. It doesn't try to make a really convoluted plot it just does what it sets out to do and does it in an entertaining way.
