Written by Michael Nilon and directed by Benjamin Brewer, this terrifying post-apocalyptic horror thriller premiered at South by Southwest this past March. It stars Nicolas Cage, Jaeden Martell, Maxwell Jenkins and Sadie Soverall.
In a near future where earth has been decimated by an undisclosed catastrophe, Paul (Cage) barely escapes alive from the city alongside his infant twin boys. Years later, Paul and his teenage sons Joseph (Martell) and Thomas (Jenkins) are living in a remote farmhouse miles away from their nearest neighbours at Rose Farm. During the day, the boys and their father work the land and gather provisions, but at night the threesome are under siege from killer creatures that roam the land.
The trio’s quotidian life of humdrum chores and trying to survive each night at a time, is thrown into chaos when Thomas, the more rebellious of the two brothers, fails to return before nightfall one evening.

Jodie Comer is heading toward disturbing events after signing on to her latest film project with Kenneth Branagh, The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde. Branagh wrote and will direct the new film. Plot details are scarce, but Deadline’s exclusive report says The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde is a contemporary psychological thriller, with production kicking off in August in the UK.
Belfast producers Tamar Thomas, Laura Berwick, Becca Kovacik, Matthew Jenkins, Maximum Effort’s Ashley Fox, and Johnny Pariseau will join Branagh for the new film.
As Deadline points out, Comer’s signing onto the project is a significant boon for Branagh’s latest yarn. She’s an extraordinarily busy actress, so something about Branagh’s project must have caught her attention. After wrapping Killing Eve, Comer joined the cast of the Jeff Nichols crime drama The Bikeriders. Comer plays Kathy in the upcoming film, which also stars Austin Butler,...

Director Jeff Nichols’ (“Midnight Special”) period biker gang movie “The Bikeriders” is finally making its theatrical debut next month. The New Regency drama faced a little drama last year when Disney’s 20th Century Studios dropped the movie, and Focus Features/Universal Pictures came to the rescue, picking it up for North American release. A new U.K. trailer for the upcoming film has arrived from Universal, giving us another glimpse of what to expect from the latest crime drama loosely based on some true events with some brief new footage.

After teasing the release of the new trailer for the upcoming horror prequel, Paramount has just dropped the official second trailer for A Quiet Place: Day One. The film showcases that fateful day when the invasion began and the people of New York would struggle to deal with a fatal menace that attacks from sounds. The trailer seems to be the same one that was premiered at CinemaCon this year, as the footage matches the description given by our own Lance Vlcek, who was in attendance.
While John Krasinski directed the previous two films, he is producing A Quiet Place: Day One and has passed the helming duties over to Michael Sarnoski, director of the Nicolas Cage drama Pig (watch it Here). Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special) was attached to write and direct A Quiet Place: Day One for a while, but when he dropped out he was replaced by Sarnoski.

Shhh. Do you hear that? That’s the sound of the new teaser for A Quiet Place: Day One. While series creator John Krasinski has opted to do a much more family-friendly fare with the Ryan Reynolds movie If, A Quiet Place has been handed off to some pretty capable hands as Michael Sarnoski steps up to sit in the director’s seat. The new trailer will be dropping sometime tomorrow. However, the official Instagram account for the film and the film’s studio, Paramount, couldn’t wait to tease audiences with this atmospheric, Asmr-esque video which should give you the environment of the invasion as you listen to it with headphones on.

Jeff Nichols’ ensemble-driven drama The Bikeriders has a brand new trailer ahead of its June release. More here.
Universal Pictures in the midst of building anticipation for The Bikeriders back up, ahead of the film’s release in late June. The Bikeriders was originally slated to release last December in the US, although no UK date ever emerged. Given that the film boasts an impressive ensemble of acting talent, it seems that Disney-owned 20th Century Studios was spooked by last year’s actors’ strike and opted to remove the film from its release slate entirely.
The Bikeriders eventually reappeared, now with Focus handling distribution in the US and Universal taking care of the UK release. The film is set for a release this summer. Jeff Nichols directs his first film in eight years, and given that he helmed the excellent Mud and the equally excellent Take Shelter, there’s good...

Check out the brand new trailer for director Jeff Nichols’s The Bikeriders, in theaters June 21.
The film stars Jodie Comer, Austin Butler and Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Mike Faist with Norman Reedus.
The Bikeriders follows the rise of a midwestern motorcycle club, the Vandals. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over the course of a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.
Nichols and Shannon worked together on the terrific, but overlooked sci-fi film Midnight Special. Read the review here and check out our list of the 5 reasons we thought the 2016 film was one of the best of the year.

Today should be a national holiday. No, not because it's Leap Day or anything, which we all know is nothing more than an arbitrary construct in our fruitless attempts to put labels on the chaos of time and space. Instead, we ought to have the day off because Focus Features decided to bless us with another trailer for "The Bikeriders" that puts yet another oddball performance from Tom Hardy at the very front and center of the action. I mean, when you begin with an off-screen Hardy in an outrageously Chicagoan accent talking about how he wants to start a riding club instead of the actual star of the show, Austin Butler, that says it all, don't it?
Granted, the movie is about much more than Hardy's character starting a fun new hobby with his friends. Mike Shutt reviewed "The Bikeriders" for /Film out of the Austin Film Festival in...

In the annals of famous movie monsters, it's arguable that the creatures from 2018's "A Quiet Place" rank fairly low. After all, following the release of the first film and 2021's "A Quiet Place Part II," we still don't have an official name for the extraterrestrial beasties that decide to come to Earth one fine day and start mowing down everything that makes a peep. At least the creatures' most recent cinematic progenitor, the Cloverfield monster, has a name by virtue of his film's offbeat title. The "Quiet Place" aliens have to settle for being unofficially dubbed "Death Angels," a term taken from a newspaper headline clipping seen posted on a board in the first movie.
That said, us monster kids' loss is cinema's gain, because it is the very unknowability of the Death Angels which lend the "A Quiet Place" films such spooky, tense power. Put simply, the franchise...

The Beatles regularly paid tribute to the classic rock pioneers who paved the way for them. One of Paul McCartney’s songs is about a blues singer who helped create rock music. The “Silly Love Songs” singer said the tune in question had good lyrics that he should take as advice.
1 of Paul McCartney’s songs was inspired by a book about Lead Belly
During a 2020 interview with The New York Times, Paul was asked to name his favorite song from his album McCartney III. “I’m very happy with ‘Women and Wives,'” he replied. “I’ve been reading a book about Lead Belly.” Lead Belly was the stage name of blues icon Huddie William Ledbetter. He gave the world classic tunes such as “Cotton Fields,” “Boll Weevil,” “Midnight Special,” “Goodnight, Irene,” and “In the Pines.” His work laid the groundwork for much of rock ‘n’ roll music.

The sci-fi horror A Quiet Place franchise is heading to New York with its latest entry, A Quiet Place: Day One, which is set to reach theatres on June 28th – but cast member Alex Wolff (Hereditary) doesn’t think the film should be categorized as a sci-fi horror movie. During a red carpet chat with Discussing Film, Wolff said A Quiet Place: Day One is more like an expensive drama.
Wolff told Discussing Film, “That’s not a horror movie, not really. I might get in trouble for saying that. It’s the director of Pig, this film I did, so it’s very… it’s more a drama. It’s weird going from a two million dollar movie (Pig) to, like, a hundred million dollar movie (A Quiet Place: Day One), though, and working in the same proximity, there’s only about four or five characters in it. Scream and Ready or Not producer James Vanderbilt is teaming up with Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon for Nuremberg, a historical drama set in post-war Germany. Arranged by Bluestone Entertainment and Walden Media, the project is inspired by Jack El Hai’s book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist. Vanderbilt directs from a script he wrote, with production starting in February in Hungary.
According to Deadline, Nuremberg “focuses on the American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Malek), who is tasked with determining whether Nazi prisoners are fit to stand trial for their war crimes, and finds himself in a complex battle of wits with Hermann Göring (Crowe), Hitler’s right-hand man.” Shannon plays Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Chicago – Michael Shannon is also a film director. The distinctive actor, who has wowed cinema fans with his performances over the years, showcased his directorial debut at the 59th Chicago International Film Festival (Ciff) with “Eric Larue.” Shannon did a master class on directing, walked the Red Carpet and appeared at the film screening.
Janice Larue is (Judy Greer) a middle-aged mother coming to terms with a shooting spree perpetrated by her son. Adapted from Brett Neveu’s 2002 play — which debuted at A Red Orchid Theatre in Chicago — the film follows the shell-shocked Janice as she attempts to navigate the tragedy in her small town. While a local pastor tries to reconcile Janice with the victims’ mothers, Janice’s feeble husband (Alexander Skarsgård) finds refuge in an upstart church led by a motivational preacher (Tracy Letts). But Janice must find her own way. The film was a Special Presentation of the 59th Ciff.

Jeff Nichols, who had previously made the apocalyptic drama “Take Shelter,” the Mark Twain-y “Mud,” and the bold, John Carpenter-indebted “Midnight Special” along with the Oscar-nominated period drama “Loving,” says his new film “The Bikeriders” is unlike anything else he’s previously made. While the earlier movies were about emotion, this new film is built around, as he says, a “feeling.”
“For me, emotions are like this very specific personal emotional reaction to a thing, and this is different than that,” Nichols explained to TheWrap. And he’ll soon be taking that feeling home, as he premieres “The Bikeriders” on his home turf.
Fresh off of its rapturously received debut at the Telluride Film Festival (and ahead of its Dec. 1 release date), filmmaker Jeff Nichols will be bringing his brand-new film “The Bikeriders” to his home state of Arkansas. The Arkansas Cinema Society and the Arkansas Museum of...

Jeff Nichols was just at the Telluride Film Festival last weekend for the world premiere of his upcoming film, “The Bikeriders.” And while he was there, the director hopped on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast to talk about his new movie, failed pitches for projects like “Aquaman,” and other topics. That includes “Alien Nation,” a long-gestating project of Nichols’ that never panned out (and is the reason for seven years between “The Bikeriders” and 2016’s “Loving” and “Midnight Special“) but came closer to being made than anyone realizes.

Jeff Nichols is enjoying some love right now thanks to the acclaim for his latest, The Bikeriders at the Telluride Film Festival and spawning a sequel due out this December.
But way back in 2014, among the emails unearthed by the infamous Sony hack were messages between studio folk about Warner Bros. considering Nichols – then the director of Take Shelter and Mud to handle the movie.

But way back in 2014, among the emails unearthed by the infamous Sony hack were messages between studio folk about Warner Bros. considering Nichols – then the director of Take Shelter and Mud to handle the movie.

It's either a rite of passage ... or a war of attrition, depending on how you look at it. If you're an acclaimed filmmaker who has typically made original movies at a mid-sized budget with adult audiences in mind -- in other words, exactly the type of movie that has been largely done away with and completely subsumed by the superhero blockbuster craze -- then you're inevitably going to be asked about making one of those superhero blockbusters. But every so often, those talented artists actually are interested enough to put some serious thought into their own personal pitch and, in this case, Jeff Nichols might as well have sent those Warner Bros. executives running for the hills.
As we recently saw with the trailer debut for "The Bikeriders," the marketing for Nichols' next buzzy project has finally begun in earnest and that means we're set for the director of well-received movies like "Shotgun Stories,...

One of the big reveals to come out of the infamous 2014 Sony email hack was that Warner Bros. had been in talks with indie director Jeff Nichols to helm its “Aquaman” movie starring Jason Momoa. Nichols was coming off acclaimed back-to-back dramas “Take Shelter” and “Mud” at the time. His involvement with “Aquaman” did not move beyond talks, but now Nichols is opening up a bit about what went into his failed pitch.
Speaking on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast from the Telluride Film Festival, where his latest directorial effort, “The Bikeriders,” world premiered to rave reviews and Oscar buzz, Nichols explained why his pitch for “Aquaman” was never going to be the $1 billion movie Warner Bros. ended up getting.
“I still have scenes from [‘Aquaman’] in my head that would’ve been good,” Nichols said. “They would’ve been quite different from the film that was made. It wasn’t ever feasible…...

Some films merely offer you a clockwork plot. Others, like Jeff Nichols’ smokin’ cool “The Bikeriders,” whisk you away with a roar of mood and atmosphere.
That’s no surprise coming from the versatile director of “Mud,” “Loving” and “Midnight Special,” all seemingly different (but equally wondrous) films with one common denominator: a precise, wistful sense of place and tone. As soon as we spot Austin Butler on a bar stool sporting a badass Vandals Chicago jacket on his back, that exacting disposition is evident here, too. With appealingly greased and molded hair, Butler looks like he just stepped away from the “Elvis” set for a swift cigarette break, wearing the invincible aura of a movie star like it’s his second skin. Vandals is the name of the motorbike clique Butler’s terse Benny is a part of. And to get him to take that jacket off—like a...

20th Century Studios has released the trailer for Jeff Nichols’ upcoming motorcycle gang drama “The Bikeriders,” starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Tom Hardy. The film opened the Telluride Film Festival on Aug. 31 to critical acclaim. Its theatrical release is scheduled for Dec. 1.
Based on Danny Lyon’s 1968 book of black-and white photographs, “The Bikeriders” follows a fictional Midwestern biker gang in 1965 Chicago called the Vandals. Austin Butler stars as Benny, a quietly smoldering young man who, like elder gang member and founder Johnny (Hardy), is unconditionally devoted to the club. Jodie Comer stars as Kathy, Benny’s wife who fell for him at a young age and grapples with the consequences of Benny’s involvement in the group. The trailer reveals that the gang eventually gets involved with criminal activity and shows the violence that followed.

Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders,” starring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler and Tom Hardy, races into theaters on Dec. 1, following a splashy debut last week at Telluride. And you can watch a brand-new trailer right now (above), to get your engine properly revved.
Based on a 1968 photo book of the same name by Danny Lyon, “The Bikeriders” is told from the point of view of Kathy (Comer), a member of a ‘60s motorcycle gang who marries a handsome new member named Benny (Butler). As the nature of the motorcycle gang changes, so too does Benny’s relationship with the group’s volatile leader Johnny (Hardy). Bursts of violence, great pompadours and tons of cool leather jackets. What more could you want?
This is, incredibly, Nichols’ first movie since his 2016 back-to-back triumphs – sci-fi chase movie “Midnight Special” and his Oscar-nominated historical drama “Loving.” For a long time Nichols was developing a new take on “Alien Nation,...

20th Century Studios hits the open road today with The Bikeriders trailer, previewing the film shortly after its Telluride Film Festival screening last week. Amidst plumes of dust and the smell of gasoline, Jeff Nichols directs from a script he wrote inspired by the Danny Lyon book of photography. The Bikeriders is an original story set in the 1960s following the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.
Produced by Sarah Green and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, The Bikeriders features a cast that would make any Sons of Anarchy fan drool with envy. Austin Butler has gone from being a Hounddog to a moto-hog in Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders.”
The “Elvis” Oscar nominee leads the 1960s-set period piece that follows the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club. Jodie Comer, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, and Norman Reedus also star in the 20th Century Studios release, marking Nichols’ first film since 2016’s “Midnight Special.”
The official synopsis reads: Inspired by Danny Lyon’s iconic book of photography, “The Bikeriders” immerses you in the look, feel, and sounds of the bare-knuckled, grease-covered subculture of ’60s motorcycle riders. Kathy (Comer), a strong-willed member of the Vandals who’s married to a wild, reckless bikerider named Benny (Butler), recounts the Vandals’ evolution over the course of a decade, beginning as a local club of outsiders united by good times, rumbling bikes, and respect for their strong, steady leader Johnny (Hardy).

Director Jeff Nichols wanted three magnetic faces to anchor his motorcycle movie, “The Bikeriders”, which just launched at the Telluride Film Festival. He and his casting director Francine Maisler landed a stellar multinational cast for this three-hander led by Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, and Jodie Comer.
The Nichols/Maisler collaboration began with “The Tree of Life” producer Sarah Green. “There’s this young guy who could be the next Terry Malick,” Green told Maisler, who checked out “Take Shelter” and met with Nichols back in 2010. “He was very quiet and humble,” Maisler said at a Telluride interview with Nichols.
Maisler went on to cast “Mud” and every Nichols film since, including “Midnight Special,” which featured an early role for Adam Driver, and “Loving,” which landed Irish actress Ruth Negga an Oscar nomination. “You just put an actor in his hands and they can fly,” said Maisler. “You have a script.

The latest film from acclaimed director Jeff Nichols, ‘The Bikeriders’, has received a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, the popular review aggregator website. The film, which stars Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Michael Shannon and Mike Faist, is a thrilling drama about a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who embark on a cross-country road trip in the 1960s.
The film is inspired by the iconic photography book of the same name by Danny Lyon, who documented the lives and culture of the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club. Nichols, who also wrote the screenplay, said he wanted to explore the themes of freedom, rebellion and identity that Lyon captured in his images.

Jeff Nichols’ filmography is still young, and still showing no signs of settling in to a stylistic signature — or rut. Through such distinctive features as Take Shelter, Loving, Midnight Special and Mud, the writer-helmer has, though, established a certain directorial integrity. Valuing mood and gesture over plot or formula, his stories are propelled by an openhearted but unsentimental tenderness toward his characters, and invigorated by electrifying grace notes.
With his latest offering, the gloves, at first, seem to be off. The Bikeriders is set within a testosterone-fueled counterculture where brute stupidity frequently prevails, and many viewers will find its violence and code-of-honor brotherhood distancing, or at least familiar movie territory. But what resonates beyond the brawls and blood is a profound affection for the people onscreen — those grace notes provided by a fine cast, with Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy stirring undercurrents that are particularly affecting precisely because they’re never explicitly examined or explained.

Twenty years ago, Jeff Nichols found a book of photographs on his brother’s coffee table about an outlaw motorcycle club that rumbled around the American Midwest during the 1960s, and he immediately recognized it as the coolest fucking thing that he’d ever seen in his entire life — both the book itself, and the people in it.
To watch the greasy-as-hell movie Nichols has now adapted from Danny Lyon’s “The Bikeriders” is to know how he felt in that moment. And to watch that movie stall out after 45 of the most exhilarating and self-possessed minutes that Nichols has ever cut together is to know how he’s struggled to find a story worthy of the dirt-stained denim he’s been dreaming about ever since. As the leader of the Vandals laments about the crew that’s starting to slip away under his feet: “You can give everything you...

Filmmaker Jeff Nichols seemed positively thrilled while introducing his new film “The Bikeriders” to the Telluride Film Festival patrons on Thursday afternoon, and it is easy to see why. The project, Nichols’ first as a director since 2016’s “Loving,” is about an American biker gang in the 1960s, and the propulsive and entertaining drama owes as much to films like “Goodfellas” and “A Bronx Tale” as it does to the Danny Lyon book of photographs and interviews that inspired Nichols to write the script.
“I’ve always tried to find a universal theme in my films,” Nichols said in a director’s statement. “The idea being that if you have a universal thought at the core of your story, it is possible to make a very personal, regionally specific film that feels totally unique to a specific time and place that still resonates with a broad and diverse audience. ‘The...

The David Bowie World Fan Convention brought the artists who worked with David Bowie to the audience who grew alongside his mythical output. Prior to the festivities, singer, fashion model, and actor Ava Cherry discussed the profound influences she brought to the singer-songwriter. Cherry was also quite open about how Bowie attempted to return the gestures, if not always the clothes he borrowed.
After Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars finished their mission, and just prior to recording Diamond Dogs, Bowie put together a trio he hoped would take off on their own orbits: Ava and the Astronettes. Front and center was his girlfriend, Ava Cherry.
After hearing Cherry harmonize with the top soul voices at an afterparty for Stevie Wonder’s Carnegie Hall concert, Bowie recruited Ava to go on the road to end the Ziggy Stardust tour in Japan. “David said ‘You’re a singer?’” Cherry tells Den of Geek.

Los Angeles, July 29 (Ians) Hollywood director Jeff Nichols’ latest star-studded film ‘The Bikeriders’ will debut in theatres on December 1.
The film boasts stars including Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, Boyd Holbrook, Norman Reedus, and Michael Shannon.
As per the Collider, the film will follow the history of a fictional mid-century Midwestern biker club, detailing its initial beginnings as a refuge for misfits and outsiders, and charting its gradual descent into a violent criminal organization, leading to conflict with the club’s original members.
This mirrors the path that many motorcycle clubs took in those years; initially founded by veterans dissatisfied by society, many motorcycle clubs became brutal criminal gangs, dealing in drugs, prostitution, and violence.
It will be Nichols’ first film since 2016, when he released the sci-fi suspense film ‘Midnight Special’, and ‘Loving’, a historical drama detailing the path to the legalization of interracial marriage.

A month away from potentially receiving his first Emmy nomination, Michael Shannon is branching out into directing with “Eric Larue,” Brett Neveu’s adaptation of his own 2002 play. Following a mother seeking some semblance of normalcy in a town rocked by the horrific act of violence perpetrated by her son against three classmates, the movie just premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival to significant acclaim for its leading lady, veteran character actor Judy Greer. Considering the subject, comparisons to “We Need to Talk About Kevin” and “Mass” are unsurprising.
Alexander Skarsgård co-stars as Greer’s born-again husband, and Paul Sparks (with whom Shannon has worked on “Boardwalk Empire” and “Waco”), Alison Pill (“The Newsroom”), Tracy Letts (“Lady Bird”), Annie Parisse (“The Following”), Kate Arrington (“George & Tammy”) and Nation Sage Henrikson (“Shameless”) comprise the rest of the main cast. An ensemble of gifted actors effectively play against type in Michael Shannon’s quietly powerful directing debut, none more so than Judy Greer, outwardly numbed by sorrow but raw inside as a mother whose son shot and killed three high school classmates. While the subject matter inevitably invites comparison with Mass, that well-received 2021 chamber piece — also a first feature by an actor, Fran Kranz — kept its focus tight on two sets of parents on either side of a similar tragedy. Eric Larue casts a wider gaze, taking in the broader community and the religious leaders fumbling or manipulating the conversation about healing.
Shannon’s deep roots in Chicago theater are evident in his choice of material and his success at assembling a first-rate cast — uncommonly strong across the board for a modestly scaled indie like this.

Sometimes horror franchises go to space, and sometimes they go to New York City. Singer, actor, producer and activist Harry Belafonte, who spawned a calypso craze in the U.S. with his music and blazed new trails for African-American performers, has died of congestive heart failure at his Manhattan home, reports ‘Variety’. He was 96.
