The Barbenheimer phenomenon was something that everyone talked about last summer when two very important movies came out. One of them was Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, a movie that showed us how great feminism can work on screen, while the other was Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy and Emily Blunt, a movie that showed us the terror of atomic energy. Both these movies were released at the same time and many people believed that they would cancel each other out and create a rivalry, but what happened was something completely different!
Fans of both movies united and this led to the birth of the Barbenheimer phenomenon, which brought in a substantial amount of money for cinemas last year, as Barbie fans called for people to go watch Oppenheimer, while Oppenheimer fans urged people to go watch Barbie. Barbenheimer was a cinematic phenomenon,...

While Netflix has expanded the type of programming it offers, most recently venturing into live sports and other events, co-ceo Ted Sarandos has indicated in a new interview that news is not for Netflix.
“We don’t do breaking news and that kind of thing, because I think there’s a lot of other outlets for it. People aren’t looking to us for that,” Sarandos told The New York Times in a wide-ranging interview that ran online Saturday when asked what’s not right for Netflix. Yet the executive — whose company a year ago launched an ad tier — in the same answer said he’s open to new things: “I don’t think that there’s a clean answer because the best version of something may work really well for Netflix but just hasn’t worked to date.”

Mother of the Bride unwittingly tells you everything you need to know about it right at the opening logos: the expected Netflix logo and one for the Motion Picture Corporation of America, a company I’ve never heard of that apparently specializes in low-budget comedies, such as Dumb and Dumber, the A Christmas Prince and The Princess Switch franchises, and Irish Wish earlier this year.
Even without knowing their filmography, I would still say this logo tells you everything about the film before it starts because “Motion Picture Corporation of America” sounds like the most generic name for a movie studio ever and Mother of the Bride is unfortunately about as generic a romantic comedy as you can get, aside from a handful of key details that honestly make it worse.

Ayesha Curry, entrepreneur, cookbook author, and wife of NBA superstar Steph Curry, isn’t afraid to speak her mind. But one past public appearance left a sour taste in her mouth. In 2019, Curry made a guest appearance on Jada Pinkett Smith’s talk show, “Red Table Talk”.
A still from Irish Wish
The show, known for its candid discussions about relationships and personal struggles, seemed like a perfect fit for Curry to open up. However, what unfolded after the filming wasn’t what Curry expected. She almost felt betrayed after her comments came out entirely different after the final editing of the interview.

Come on guys, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” wasn’t that bad.
According to a March 11, 2024 CableTV.com poll of 1,000 U.S. streaming users, nearly one in four (24 percent to be exact) believe Netflix has gotten worse over the past year. The silver lining is that Netflix is still the most favored streamer overall: a third (33 percent) of the respondents say they would still pick Netflix over any other service, and only 22 percent said they have a “negative opinion” of the streaming leader. In non-survey-land, Netflix just keeps on growing: by the end of March it had 270 million global paid subscribers.
On the flip side, only 3 percent of the survey’s participants would choose Apple TV+ for their first pick; 47 percent of Americans have a negative view of Apple’s SVOD service. Maybe they just really, really want “Severance” to come back already with its second season (but probably not). We surely do.

The docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV posted Max’s best streaming numbers to date for its premiere week.
The show, which streamed on Max concurrent with its on-air premiere on ID, had 1.25 billion minutes of viewing for the week of March 18-24. That’s the largest weekly total for any series on Max in the nearly four years of Nielsen’s streaming rankings, edging out the 1.19 billion for The Last of Us in early 2023.
Netflix’s 3 Body Problem grabbed the overall No. 1 spot for the week (it premiered March 21), racking up 1.37 billion minutes over its first four days. The sci-fi series narrowly beat Prime Video’s remake of Road House, which had 1.32 billion minutes of viewing in the United States. Amazon had earlier claimed that the movie was Prime Video’s biggest film premiere worldwide so far.

I’m not embarrassed to admit that I consume all kinds of rom-coms: the good, the not-so-good, the somewhere-in-between. (I draw the line at anything that stars Ashton Kutcher. Hollywood: Please put Pedro Pascal on your rom-com leading-man shortlists. Many thanks in advance.) Anyway, I’ve sensed a shift of late. A change in the vibe. A subtle, faintly nostalgic perfume in the air: It’s not overpowering, like the glossy rom-com-a-minute marketplace of the 1990s and early aughts, but still bright and warm and mood-boosting. The box office success of Anyone but You ($218 million globally) and streaming hit Irish Wish (currently top 5 in Nielsen’s movie chart), the fresh deals being made, the rom-coms rolling out this year with big names attached — all this activity reflects audience enthusiasm for polished, character-driven entertainment with jokes, heart and wish fulfillment.

Taylor Swift made her chart debut in Nielsen’s streaming rankings, as her concert movie The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) had a strong showing over its first four days of release on Disney+.
The film racked up 677 million minutes of viewing in the United States in the week of March 11-17 (it debuted on Disney+ on March 14), finishing second among movies and eighth among all titles for the week. Disney had previously said that The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) had 4.6 million views (defined as total viewing time divided by running time) worldwide over its first three days; the four days of Nielsen measurement translate to about 3.22 million views of the 3 1/2-hour film.

Netflix is at or near the top of both Nielsen and Luminate’s streaming rankings every week, but achieved that with some titles that differ from its usual fare during the March 29-April 3 viewing window.
As expected, “3 Body Problem” remained the most-watched streaming original series of the week per Luminate with 964.1 million minutes watched (an estimated 3.6 million views) — unsurprising, as the title is the follow-up from “Game of Thrones” helmers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who created the show alongside Alexander Woo.
But right behind it was “Testament: The Story of Moses,” a biblical series that Netflix calls a “docudrama” that landed on the streamer in time for Easter weekend. Though the project differs from the content typically prioritized by Netflix (and most streamers) it reached a strong 707.8 million minutes watched. Divided by the series’ just over 4-hour runtime, that translates to an estimated 2.8 million views.

Are rom-coms on the resurgence? If they are, Netflix is ahead of the pack with several new ones out on the streamer this year already. “Players,” “Irish Wish, and “The Heartbreak Agency” didn’t fare too well with critics, but “One Day” did, so maybe that means “Mother Of The Bride” could a sleeper hit for the streamer this Spring.

After 8 Years, Ben Affleck’s Thriller Regains Popularity On Netflix. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
After eight long years since its triumphant reign in cinemas, the mighty saga of Ben Affleck’s action-thriller, “The Accountant,” rises again, casting its shadow upon Netflix. During the week of March 25-31, the film seized the fourth throne on Netflix’s Global Top 10 chart, commanding 13.2 million hours of loyal viewership and 6.2 million devoted followers. Yet, it found itself trailing behind the recent Netflix epics, including the enchanted “Irish Wish” of Lindsay Lohan and the captivating “Damsel” of Millie Bobby Brown, each reigning supreme for three and four weeks, respectively.
Theatrically released back in 2016, the electrifying action-thriller introduces Ben Affleck as the enigmatic Christian Wolff, a maestro of mathematics and a certified accountant with a knack for straightening out financial chaos in the shadowy realms of crime. 3 Body Problem pushed its way to the top of Netflix’s TV charts.
In its first full week on the streamer, the series managed 15.6M views — up quite substantially from its debut weekend to make it not only top dog among TV but also the most-watched title on Netflix from March 25 to 31.
It’s a bit too early to put it in contention for a spot on the most popular list, since it only has 26M of the 83M views it would need to make it. How it performs over the next few weeks will be very telling about its chances.
Meanwhile, The Gentlemen fell from grace a bit, coming in at No. 3, down from first place the week prior, with 7.8M views.
Avatar: The Last Airbender also spent its sixth week on the list with 2.8M views, putting it in fifth place. Speaking of the most popular list,...

Freaky Friday 2 is moving ahead at Disney with Nisha Ganatra directing, here are the details we’ve got of the follow-up.
While Jamie Lee Curtis is of course a horror icon from the Halloween franchise, and she won an Oscar in 2022 for her performance in Everything, Everywhere All At Once, Freaky Friday, the beloved body swap film in which she starred opposite Lindsay Lohan, is a terrific comedic performance.
Based on the book by Mary Rodgers, the 2003 film, a remake of the 1976 film of the same name which starred Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, follows Tess Coleman (Curtis), a single mother and uptight psychiatrist, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna (Lohan). Constantly at odds with each other due to their differing perspectives on life, they find themselves magically swapping bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie incident at a Chinese restaurant. “Freaky Friday 2” is officially happening at Disney, with Nisha Ganatra tapped to direct. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are in talks to reprise their roles from the 2003 comedy.
Ganatra most recently directed episodes of Hulu’s “Welcome to Chippendale’s.” Her other credits include the 2020 film “The High Note” with Dakota Johnson and Tracee Ellis Ross, along with 2019’s “Late Night,” starring Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson.
Rumors of a “Freaky Friday” sequel first began to swirl in October 2022, when Curtis told “The View” co-hosts that she had “already written to Disney” regarding a sequel. Since then, both Curtis and Lohan have been vocal about their desire to reunite for another body-swapping comedy.

Two new biopics about 20th-century Black icons entered the home viewing charts this week: “Bob Marley: One Love” (Paramount), the film about the legendary reggae artist nearing $100 million in theaters, and “Shirley” (Netflix), about the first Black Congresswoman and one-time presidential candidate, led newcomers in a week that mostly repeated top titles.
“One Love” is #1 at Fandango, which ranks by revenue. The VOD platform won’t be able to provide its whole top 10 until Monday, but the company confirms that placement. Somewhat surprisingly, “One Love” is #3 at iTunes, behind “Anyone but You” (Sony) and “The Beekeeper” (Lionsgate), now both at $5.99 to rent after earlier strong PVOD performances at $19.99.
Both Fandango and Google Play chart by transactions. But normally a film with the success in theaters that “Bob Marley” had would debut at #1. It’s unclear, with data beyond relative rankings absent, whether this might be just because the reduced price...

McKenna Grace reprises her lead role as Phoebe in “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which led the weekend box office with $45 million. At 17 she is not yet a household name, but she laid some groundwork early: At age six she had a supporting role on the Disney Channel sitcom “Crash & Bernstein.” Later she received an Emmy nomination for her work in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and portrayed the younger selves for the leads in movies like “I, Tonya” and “Captain Marvel.”
Her “Ghostbusters” co-star is Finn Wolfhard, who made his debut at 13 in CW’s “Supernatural” before starring in “Stranger Things” and “It.” Zendaya, star of “Dune: Part Two,” got her start as a Disney Channel regular. Her co-star, Oscar-nominated Austin Butler, cut his teeth at Nickelodeon.

The Ides of March were marked this year by a three-way race among high profile filmmakers – Peter Farrelly, Doug Liman and Guy Ritchie – with original streaming film and TV series debuts across Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. But the sleeper success story of the week belonged to Netflix’s Lindsay Lohan rom com movie “Irish Wish.”
Ritchie made a splashy debut on March 7 with Netflix’s “The Gentlemen,” an eight-episode TV heist drama delivered in the director’s signature style. In its second week, “Gentlemen” had solid hold with a modest 30% decline to 1.3 billion minutes watched during the March 15-21 frame, according to original streaming content ratings calculated by Luminate.

In Irish Wish, a new Netflix rom-com, a bride-to-be is dumped by her lover on wedding day — but, with steely determination, she quickly closes in on a handsome replacement. Consistent with rom-com protocol, her “Irish wish” is realized.
Going back to When Harry Met Sally…, there’s always been something cozy and likable about the rom-com genre. No Hard Feelings starring Jennifer Lawrence did well last year as a feature and now is up for a sequel.
And Anyone but You has surprised rom-com experts. Its numbers are impressive – 2.8 billion hashtag views on TikTok and a worldwide box office that has surpassed $200 million. The data reminds some of a throwback to the Bridget Jones cycle.
To be sure, rom-coms have become formulaic, especially the Netflix model. But a case could be made that they now emerge as a positive social resource now.
“The Gen Z-ers need prods of positivity,” observes one psychologist.

Stranger Things breakout Millie Bobby Brown is driving a sword through Netflix’s English Films List this week with her fantasy action flick Damsel, slaying the number one spot for the second week in a row! The Juan Carlos Fresnadillo-directed action-adventure film added 50.8M views to its coffers and was the most-watched title of the week. Damsel’s viewing total stands tall at 86.1M views in ten days, hitting the coveted #1 spot in 87 countries and reaching the Top 10 in 93.
Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan’s romantic comedy Irish Wish pranced into the #2 slot, with 30.6M views in its first three days of release. The action-thriller Code 8: Part II nabbed the #4 spot (3.6M views), while Johan Renck’s Spaceman, starring Adam Sandler and Carey Mulligan, floated into the #9 spot with 3.1M views. Spaceman’s performance is shocking, as Sandler typically owns the Netflix Top 10 whenever he drops a new film onto the streamer.

Oscar-winning films were denied a theatrical victory lap, grossing less than $1 million total last weekend. They found gold at home, where titles like “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” ranked high on both VOD and on streaming.
Two $19.99 PVOD titles lead the VOD charts. “Anyone but You” (Sony) remains #1 at iTunes and Google, while the just-released “Madame Web” is #1 at Fandango. “Anyone” is #5 at Fandango, while “Madame Web,” released last Friday, has yet to be listed at Google Play, which always lags a few days.
Oscar titles otherwise dominated. Five films, all with rentals between $4.99 and $6.99 (and all but one also streaming), took 12 of 30 positions on three VOD charts. “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things” (Searchlight) swept the field.
On two charts were winners “American Fiction” (Amazon MGM), “Anatomy of a Fall” (Neon), and “The Zone of Interest” (A24). “The Beekeeper” (Amazon MGM), still at $19.99, and “Wonka” (WB), now reduced to $5.99, round out the...

Lindsay Lohan’s journey back to the spotlight through Netflix’s rom-com lineup hits a lukewarm note with ‘Irish Wish’, a film that reteams her with ‘Falling for Christmas’ director Janeen Damian. Despite the anticipation surrounding Lohan’s comeback, this St. Patrick’s Day release struggles to sparkle amidst the lush Irish landscapes it showcases. In ‘Irish Wish’, Lohan portrays Maddie, a timid book editor caught in a magical love triangle. The fantasy elements and romantic entanglements aim to enchant but end up feeling like reheated leftovers from better films. ‘Falling for Christmas’, another Damian-directed feature, offered a glimpse of Lohan’s potential in her

St. Patrick’s Day is a time to celebrate Irish culture, history, and of course, to have a bit of fun! To those unfamiliar, March 17th marks the traditional death date of St. Patrick (Ireland’s patron saint). It used to be a religious day to remember him and how Christianity spread in Ireland.

Although Lindsay Lohan is primarily known for her iconic roles in Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, and Mean Girls (2004), she also has quite a few TV movies under her belt. After taking some time away from the spotlight, the former teen idol dipped her toes back into Hollywood in 2022 by starring in Netflix’s holiday rom-com Falling for Christmas. She also signed on to two more movies for the streamer, Irish Wish (which premiered March 15) and the upcoming Our Little Secret.

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride — unless, of course, your best friend gets engaged to the love of your life, you make a spontaneous wish for true love, and then magically wake up as the bride-to-be. That’s the pickle in which Lindsay Lohan finds herself in the upcoming romantic comedy Irish Wish.
Directed by Janeen Damian (Falling for Christmas), produced by Brad Krevoy and Michael Damian, and written by Kirsten Hansen, Irish Wish follows shy book editor Maddie Kelly (Lohan) on a supernatural, romantic journey of self-discovery. “She’s been ghostwriting for the writer she works for and she’s hopelessly in love with him, and she’s expecting him to love her back,” Lohan tells Tudum. But when reciprocation proves elusive, she takes matters into her own hands — only to find that romantic fantasies don’t always hold up to the harsh light of reality.

Irish Wish marks Lindsay Lohan’s second romantic comedy with Netflix. Signed to a multi-picture deal, she’ll have at least one more, Our Little Secret, expected later this year. The first film, Falling For Christmas, had some charm simply for being set during Christmas. But it played it so safe. It didn’t take any chances, and seemed hesitant to go for anything fun. Unfortunately, Irish Wish closely follows suit.

Irish Wish is yet another film about a man who meets a woman, this time set in the scenic country of Ireland. Irish Wish is an hour and a half long and takes the audience through the cliched route every romantic film follows, and this article will attempt to navigate the story of Maddie and James and how they find their way back to each other.

The season of love and romance has gone, and the summer has kicked in in full form. It is time for summer blockbusters to hit the theaters as audiences gear up for holidays and vacations. It does not make sense to release a cliched romantic comedy at this point when no one is interested in watching another story of a man and woman meeting and falling in love. Irish Wish, directed by Janeen Damian, is a Netflix original film that was released on March 15, 2024.
This one-hour and thirty-minute film is about Madeline ‘Maddy’ Kelly, who works as a book editor and is in love with her friend and author Paul Kennedy. Unbeknownst to anyone, Maddy is the ghostwriter who has written, molded, and polished Paul’s latest book, and Paul is the one taking credit for its success.
Maddy couldn’t see anything wrong in this arrangement because of her undying love for him.

When two stars have “chemistry,” we tend to think of it as basic animal magnetism. And maybe that’s the essence of it. Yet when a romantic movie works, even a synthetic magical rom-com trifle like “Irish Wish,” what draws us into the chemistry isn’t simply the actors’ sexy connection. It’s that the two characters have chemistry, and that each actor has it with the audience. That’s the connection Lindsay Lohan and Ed Speleers have in “Irish Wish. The movie is as frothy as the foam on a pint of Guinness, as formulaic as the last disposable Netflix rom-com. Yet these two make you believe that they belong together, and not every romantic comedy does that.
