Exclusive: In the week the world commemorates the 80th anniversary of the historic Normandy Landings — and President Biden touches down in France on a state visit timed to the celebrations — we can reveal that European major Studiocanal is teaming up with Darkest Hour producer Working Title on timely D-Day movie Pressure.
The film will chart the extraordinary true story of the pressure-cooker environment facing the decision-makers behind D-Day, and how their liberation of Europe was entirely at the mercy of the weather.
The story will hone in on Group Captain James Stagg, Chief Meteorologist at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expedition Force, whose job it was to inform General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, of weather conditions that would make-or-break the Allied invasion.
Despite a prolonged heat wave and the tide and moon conditions aligning, Stagg made a bold case for the invasion being delayed from June...

Keira Knightley was critical about wearing corsets for her role in Pirates of the Caribbean, despite admitting that it was an easy way to slip into the character of a royal woman. She believed that women should have burned these dresses centuries ago. While the actress’s view about the constricting garment remained the same even after all these years, she has come to accept the vitality of the costume for the character.
Pirates of the Caribbean actress Keira Knightley was vocal about her hate for corsets
Knightley was just 18 when she was cast in the role of Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Apart from the challenging costumes, she also revealed that she was forced to do some stunts that she wasn’t trained for in the movie.

The Star Wars film series is still expanding and has grown in recognition over the years. Innumerable actors have contributed to the property as the galaxy far, far away continues to grow through projects for both small and large screens. Some of them even lose track of how they came to be cast in the first place. Take Keira Knightley, for example.
Known for her acclaimed performances in Pride and Prejudice and The Imitation Game, the actress, 39, also had a role in the Star Wars film franchise that was a long-kept secret.

The iconic character of Doctor Strange in the MCU has become one of the most loved ones over the years, and a major credit for this goes to none other than the fan-favorite Benedict Cumberbatch. In fact, the 47-year-old actor was so widely loved in the role that even those fans who rallied for Joaquin Phoenix for the role can’t imagine someone else playing the character.

That being said, Phoenix got really, really close to nabbing that role from Cumberbatch. However, fortunately enough, things went in the favor of The Imitation Game actor. What’s more, even though his involvement in the movie cost Marvel millions of dollars due to scheduling conflicts, the franchise still agreed, as per what the director of the 2016 movie Scott Derrickson recently confessed.

Back in 2016, 3 years after Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity and 2 years after Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, the filmmaker Morten Tyldum released his own take on modern science fiction. Famous mostly for his Oscar-nominated historical drama The Imitation Game (2014), he gained success with it from the public, but was destroyed by critics.
Nevertheless, the movie’s brand-new synopsis promises a capturing story, as the plot revolves around two passengers forced to live alone on a giant spacecraft due to a malfunction in the ship’s defense system. They were supposed to wake up from their induced hibernation 90 years later, like thousands of people carried to a space colony.
However, it’s not the very end of the sci-fi’s premise. It turns out that one of the two passengers, Aurora, was secretly awakened by another one, Jim, for companionship, and she, not being aware of it, starts to mutually fall for him.

Pulse, Netflix’s first original medical procedural, has added five to its cast. Pennyworth star Jack Bannon, The Boys’ Jessie T. Usher, Chelsea Muirhead (Warrior), Daniela Nieves (Vampire Academy) and Jessy Yates (Law & Order: Svu) join previously announced Willa Fitzgerald, Colin Woodell and Justina Machado in the drama series from first-time creator Zoe Robyn and veteran Carlton Cuse.
Created by Robyn, in Pulse, while the staff of Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center navigate medical emergencies, young ER doc Danny Simms (Fitzgerald) is unexpectedly promoted to Chief Resident amidst the fallout of her own provocative romantic relationship.

Exclusive: Actor Steven Waddington (The Imitation Game) has penned a screenplay that he will direct based on the life of veteran Snooker player Jimmy White, with Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk) and Ray Winstone (Sexy Beast) signed on to star.
Barnard — best known for his breakout in Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk but also has credits such as The Goldfinch and the BBC’s popular 2016 War & Peace adaptation — will play White in the pic. Producers told us the film will condense the life and career of the colorful six-time Snooker World Championship finalist into “one crazy night” during which he “is forced to confront his darker side.”
Produced by Black Water Pictures and Lipsync Productions, the feature shoots in London this April. Winstone and his long-term manager, Michael Wiggs, are also on board as co-producers. The film will mark Waddington’s feature directorial debut.

If you love a Christmas mystery, Black Doves should be on your wish list — even if it’s more ass-kicking than cozy.
This six-episode spy thriller starring Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw as an unlikely spy/assassin duo will offer up high-stakes global intrigue as well as plenty of British wit, knife fights, and holiday (or anti-holiday?) cheer.
For anyone who knows that Die Hard is definitely a holiday movie, Black Doves, created and written by Joe Barton, will arrive like a Christmas gift later this year. Read on for everything that’s been declassified about the series so far.
Knightley plays Helen Webb, a quick-witted, down to earth, dedicated wife and mother — and professional spy. For a decade, she’s been passing on her politician husband’s secrets to the shadowy organization she works...

It’s not often that you think about the theory that there might be someone who looks exactly like you somewhere in another part of the world and none of you know that either one exists since the Doppleganger theory is very rarely witnessed by anybody.
Elizabeth Olsen has twin sisters who are part of the fashion industry named Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
But Margot Robbie, Natalie Portman, and Katy Perry along with other stars in the industry have witnessed the presence of their striking lookalikes in the entertainment business itself, which leads many to believe that Doppleganages might really exist.

Since we’re talking about the short films, I’ll accordingly keep this brief. Here are five reasons why “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” will win the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film.
1. It’s the clear standout in the category.
All five nominees are exceptional — the others being “The After,” “Red, White and Blue,” “Invincible” and “Knight of Fortune.” In a less competitive year, any one of them could easily walk away with the prize. But it’s simply too hard for anything to top “Henry Sugar.” Based on the short story of the same name by celebrated children’s author Roald Dahl, the film is seamlessly adapted to the screen with the same charm, wit and magic of the original tale. “Henry Sugar” features superb acting, exquisite costume and production design, beautiful cinematography and sharp editing. It holds an outstanding 95% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes,...

Cord Jefferson’s “American Fiction” won outstanding film adaptation at the 36th annual USC Libraries Script Awards on Saturday, while Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” won in the episodic series category for the second year in a row.
Jefferson and Percival Everett accepted the award for “American Fiction.” In his speech, Jefferson recalled his experience reading Everett’s novel “Erasure” in 2020, which he went on to adapt into “American Fiction.”
“It felt like I was reading a book written specifically for me. It felt like I understood what was going on in these characters in the story on a molecular level,” he said. “It felt like somebody crawled into my brain and put it into words on a page. It felt like the book was electrified as I was holding it.”

Keira Knightley Once Reflected On Harvey Weinstein Scandal & Revealed She Was Aware Of His Womanizing Character. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced film producer and convicted s*x offender, has misbehaved with many Hollywood celebs, including Jennifer Lawrence, Salma Hayek, Cate Blanchett, and more. When he was all over the news, many actresses were questioned about him, whether they were victims of his s*xual abuse. However, the Pirates of the Caribbean fame Keira Knightley once revealed that Weinstein never targeted her, and she knew that he was a womanizer.
Keira is known for her period dramas Pride & Prejudice and Atonement. She gained millions of fans after appearing as Elizabeth Swan alongside Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The franchise earned millions of dollars and made Depp one of the most prominent and highest-paid actors. After doing three films, Keira exited the franchise and returned briefly in the fifth installment.

The USC Libraries announced the winners for the 36th annual USC Libraries Scripter Award, which honors the year’s best film and television adaptations, as well as the works on which they are based. This group of academics, industry professionals, and critics (for which I vote) is often predictive of the Adapted Screenplay Oscar race.
For the second year in a row, “Slow Horses” took home the prize for episodic series; Cord Jefferson won the 2024 award for film adaptation; both he and the author of the novel he adapted, Percival Everett, were in attendance. Jefferson thanked Everett for trusting him with his 2001 novel, which he felt was written just for him. “He has managed to mine my novel for the material he needed to make this film,” said Everett, who teaches at USC. “And then I sat back and did nothing. So good job. Thank you.”

It’s a fairly big month on Prime Video in March, at least compared to the other streaming service offerings! There are are two major films arriving on Amazon’s streamer. The first is a remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic Road House. Stepping into the late Swayze’s shoes? A crazy-jacked Jake Gyllenhaal, who really seemed to want to go the extra mile for this project.
The other big film coming to Prime Video is Ricky Stanicky, and the plot sounds really fun! It follows three friends who have always blamed their mistakes on an imaginary guy called Ricky Stanicky. When they have to finally introduce people to Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to impersonate him. Hilarity ensues, maybe? But if neither of those make your watchlist, there’s also the return of the animated hit series Invincible.

Film and TV studio Fifth Season has secured international distribution rights to “Monsieur Spade,” the crime drama series starring and executive produced by Clive Owen.
Fifth Season will represent the title at the upcoming Berlin European Film Market.
The six-episode series is based on Dashiell Hammett’s hard-boiled private detective Sam Spade, the protagonist of 1930 novel “The Maltese Falcon,” adapted several times for the screen, most notably in 1941 by John Huston with Humphrey Bogart as the sleuth.
In the series, the year is 1963, and legendary detective Spade (Owen) is enjoying retirement in the South of France. Spade’s life in Bozouls is peaceful and quiet, but the rumoured return of his old adversary will change everything. Six beloved nuns have been brutally murdered, and as the town grieves, secrets emerge and new leads are established. Spade learns the murders are connected to a mysterious child, who is believed to possess great powers.

Both Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay are full of beautiful writing, with a variety of genres and writers being acknowledged for their work this year.
We have previous Oscar winners nominated, such as Josh Singer, who co-wrote “Maestro” with Bradley Cooper; previous nominees such as “Oppenheimer” scribe Christopher Nolan and “Poor Things” penman Tony McNamara; and we have a whole bunch of first-time nominees such as “Past Lives” writer and director Celine Song.
But… could we have two first-time nominees win both writing categories? Oscar history says this is unlikely; this has not happened a single time in the last 10 years. There have, however, been five instances in both categories where rookie contenders have won the Oscar.

Sendijarević’s feature debut, “Take Me Somewhere Nice,” an absurdist European road trip movie, won the Special Jury award at the 48th International Film Festival in Rotterdam, as well as the “Heart of Sarajevo” award at the 25th Sarajevo Film Festival. The film was then selected for the 72nd Cannes Film Festival Acid selection. Sendijarević has also made several short films, the latest of which, “Import,” had its world premiere in Cannes’ Director’s Fortnight section and was the official Dutch entry for Live Action Short Film at the 89th Academy Awards.

James Mangold’s Bob Dylan film, A Complete Unknown, is switching bandmates as Edward Norton replaces Benedict Cumberbatch as the American folk singer and social activist Pete Seeger. Cumberbatch must exit the project because of scheduling issues. The biography stars Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, with Monica Barbaro playing Joan Baez, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, and Nick Offerman as Alan Lomax.
James Mangold directs from a script written by Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York), with Mangold making revisions. A Complete Unknown focuses on a young Bob Dylan (Chalamet) who rocks the music world in 1965 by performing with an electric guitar for the first time, alerting people to a new sound for his signature brand. Meanwhile, Sylvie Russo (Fanning) enters the story as a university student, artist, and Dylan’s early-’60s love interest. Production for A Complete Unknown is gearing up for a New York production.

The finalists for the 36th USC Libraries Script Awards, honoring the most accomplished films and episodic series adaptations, have been announced. Among the selected are “American Fiction,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things,” all top-tier contenders for Oscar attention. Ava DuVernay’s drama “Origin” was a surprise entry in the lineup, making her the second Black woman recognized by the awards body (the first was Dee Rees for 2017’s “Mudbound”).
A strong bellwether for the Oscars’ best adapted screenplay category, previous Scripter winners that have matched the Academy in the last decade include “12 Years a Slave” (2013), “The Imitation Game” (2014), “The Big Short” (2015), “Moonlight” (2016), “Call Me by Your Name” (2017), “Nomadland” (2020) and “Women Talking” (2022). Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman” (2019) is the only Scripter-eligible film to win the Academy Award without being nominated by the organization.

The USC Libraries has revealed the finalists for the 36th annual USC Libraries Scripter Award, which honors the year’s best film and television adaptations, as well as the works on which they are based. This group of academics, industry professionals, and critics (for which I vote) is often predictive of the Adapted Screenplay Oscar race.
Last year, screenwriter Sarah Polley and novelist Miriam Toews won the film award for “Women Talking,” which was nominated for Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay Oscars; Polley won for Adapted at the Academy Awards. Meanwhile, the television prize last year went to English stand-up comedian and screenwriter Will Smith for the episode “Failure’s Contagious,” from “Slow Horses,” based on the novel by Mick Herron. Past winners include “Call Me By Your Name,” “Moonlight,” “The Big Short,” and “The Imitation Game,” which all won Oscars. In fact, before 2019, eight Scripter Award winners went on to win Oscars.

Kerry Howley, a screenwriter, author and essayist, has signed with Black Bear for representation. The news comes as Howley is about to make waves at Sundance, where “Winner,” a comedic coming-of-age story that she wrote, is going to debut. Howley adapted the story from her own New York Magazine profile on Reality Winner, an Air Force vet and Nsa translator who leaked an intelligence report about Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections. The film is directed by Susanna Fogel (“Cat Person”). It stars Emilia Jones, Connie Britton and Zach Galifianakis. “Winner” will debut in Sundance’s Premieres section.
Howley authored the non-fiction book “Bottom’s Up and The Devil Laughs,” which was recently picked as a New York Times 2023 Top Ten Book of the Year and a Vanity Fair Best Book of the Year. She is currently a staff writer at New York Magazine, most recently contributing the cover...

At the 2022 Oscars, Sian Heder won Best Adapted Screenplay for “Coda,” her adaptation of the French film “La Famille Bélier.” “Coda” also claimed Best Picture, thereby becoming the fifth remake to win the top Oscar. In 2021 playwright Florian Zeller shared in the Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay with Christopher Hampton for bring his stage hit “The Father” to the screen. In his directorial debut Zeller bagged Anthony Hopkins his second Best Actor Oscar. (Scroll down for the most up-to-date 2024 Oscar predictions for Best Adapted Screenplay.)
Screen versions of stage works had won Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars 15 times before. The most recent of these was in 2017 when “Moonlight” director Barry Jenkins and playwright Tarell Alvin McCraney prevailed for adapting the latter’s un-produced play “In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue.” Prior to that you have to go all the way back to 1989 when Alfred Uhry won for adapting...

“Poor Things,” “Oppenheimer,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “American Fiction,” “All of Us Strangers,” and “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” all received Best Adapted Screenplay bids from the Critics Choice Awards thus giving their Oscar hopes in this category a timely boost. Some of them were lauded even further at the Golden Globes, which nominated “Poor Things,” “Oppenheimer,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” alongside “Barbie,” “Past Lives,” and “Anatomy of Fall” in a combined Best Screenplay category.

December 2003. Twenty years ago. It was a special time for moviegoers. That’s because it was the first holiday season in which “Love Actually” could actually be part of one’s Christmas time festivities. (Richard Curtis‘ ensemble romantic comedy was still playing to healthy crowds in cinemas.)
While the film would not figure into that year’s Academy Awards race, the cast did feature a handful of past Oscar contenders — and a few winners. Sho which “Love Actually” cast member will be next to earn an Oscar nomination?
The most noticeable of those winners was Emma Thompson, 1992’s Best Actress for “Howards End.” She tried (unsuccessfully) for acting awards three more times, including for 1995’s “Sense and Sensibility.” For penning that script, she accepted the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for superbly adapting the classic novel by Jane Austen.
The other “Love Actually” cast member with an Oscar in their possession was Billy Bob Thornton,...
