Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones will reunite for a Normal People screening benefitting suicide prevention and mental health, the pair of actors announced Thursday.
Mescal and Edgar-Jones will join series director Lenny Abrahamson, Element Pictures and “other friends of the show” for the screening, which will take place in London on June 16 with raffle tickets to win entry starting at €45, or $48.75. The presentation will include all 12 episodes of the Emmy-nominated miniseries.
The two actors hinted at their reuniting earlier this week, with a photo of them together on Instagram.
The raffle will support Pieta, Ireland’s suicide and self-harm prevention charity, and Unicef.
“We’ve never seen it on a big screen together, and we would love to see as many of you there as possible!” the pair wrote on the auction site. Fans can buy tickets here.
Normal People, an adaptation of Sally Rooney’s 2018 novel, launched the careers of both Mescal and Edgar-Jones.

There will be no second season for High School. Amazon Freevee has canceled the coming-of-age drama based on Tegan and Sara Quin’s bestselling memoir after one season, Deadline has confirmed.
The cancellation is not a big surprise. The series’ last aired its first and only 8-episode season in October 2022.
Produced by Amazon Studios and Plan B Entertainment, High School is a story about finding your own identity—a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimic your own. Told through a backdrop of ‘90s grunge and rave culture, the series weaved between parallel and discordant memories of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another.
The series starred TikTok creators Railey and Seazynn Gilliland in their TV debut as the high school versions of Tegan and Sara, respectively. Special guest stars Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother...

One of the best recent rule changes the Television Academy recently made was the 2020 decision to expand the Drama and Comedy series categories to include eight nominees, regardless of the number of entries. But if the goal of the Primetime Emmys is to be reflective of the shows that most engaged viewers and voters alike throughout the TV season, it needs to now go one step further. The TV Academy needs to expand the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category to eight nominees as well.
In the decade since they have re-split the Limited Series and TV Movie categories there have been plenty of winners that were a cultural moment, from “The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story” to “Big Little Lies” to “Watchmen,” but these event series were not as common an occurrence. Then the Covid-19 pandemic happened, an event that has had ramifications to the television schedule still present today.

In the world of Netflix’s domination over the whole streaming, Hulu still maintains its reputation of a platform that’s worth competing with. For quite some time already, the streaming’s latest grand installments like The Bear or Only Murders in the Building have been making viewers across the world stick to the small screens waiting for the stories to unfold even more.
With all the attention brought to Hulu’s ambitious projects, the viewers yet deprive themselves of some real hidden gems, and one of them, despite all the merits, was unfairly forgotten.
Starring Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington and Daisy Edgar-Jones, Under the Banner of Heaven is Hulu’s 2022 miniseries following two detectives Jeb Pyre and Bill Taba who embark on an investigation of a brutal double homicide that has something to do with the Mormon community.

Hulu’s acclaimed new limited series “We Were the Lucky Ones” is led by Logan Lerman. who give the best performance of his career. Adapted from Georgia Hunter‘s 2017 book of the same, the story follows the Kurcs, a Polish Jewish family torn apart by WWII. It’s a difficult watch but creator Erica Lipez has crafted a gripping, vital narrative with Lerman at the center of the show. He plays Addy Kurc, the middle child who pursues a career as a composer in post-war Paris. Critics agree, Lerman is a revelation in this role.
Proma Khosla (Indie Wire) stated: “As Addy, Lerman is siloed from the other siblings for almost the entire series, but never waivers in his portrayal of someone sustained by hope and eventually in the haze of grief.”

HBO had the Lakers, now FX has the Clippers. Will the series’ fates differ (as the real-life teams’ have), or will “Clipped” face the same quick, quiet end as “Winning Time”? We’ll find out this June, when FX’s latest ripped-from-the-headlines adaptation premieres exclusively on Hulu. The trailer was released Thursday, April 25 — just under six weeks prior to the premiere — and now you can watch the first footage below.
Set in 2013, the six-episode limited series stars Ed O’Neill as L.A. Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling and Laurence Fishburne as the team’s head coach, Doc Rivers. Formerly with the Boston Celtics (who won an NBA title in 2008), Rivers had just joined the Clippers when the owner’s racist comments went public, sending the organization into a tailspin and Sterling into a power struggle with Rivers, players, and the NBA at large. Key players in the tumultuous saga include Shelly Sterling...

True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

Showtime’s “Fellow Travelers” depicts a sweeping, complex romance across the ages in one of the most acclaimed pieces of television this year. Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey are the couple in question and both men are at the top of their game here.
Bomer has always been a commanding performer, capturing viewers’ attention every moment he’s on-screen. As the closeted Hawk Fuller, he delivers a performance of vulnerability and restraint. Critics agree, it’s some of his best work.
Ben Travers (Indie Wire) observed: “Bomer and Bailey deserve all the credit coming their way for building such palpable chemistry…. Bomer’s stoic restraint proves his strongest attribute. Hawk, quite literally, is cleaner cut than a Kennedy (Bobby makes a brief appearance), and Bomer wears his classic Wasp exterior like a slightly too-snug Halloween costume. He can smile for the cameras, but there’s something tugging at the corners,...

With great power comes great responsibility. It’s a lesson Lucy Boynton (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) grapples with in Searchlight Pictures’ “The Greatest Hits.” The studio released the film’s trailer on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
In “The Greatest Hits,” Harriet (Boynton) finds that listening to certain songs (literally) sweeps her away to another time — like, she becomes an actual time-traveler. She is able to relive special moments with her deceased boyfriend (David Corenswet of “Pearl”), and could potentially even stop the car crash that killed him from even happening. It sounds like there’s a pretty big tradeoff, however, if she takes it to that point.
And then there’s the new guy, played by Justin H. Min (“Beef”), that she meets along the way. “Throughout her journey, Harriet explores the mesmerizing link between music and memory, facing her with difficult decisions of whether altering the past is a choice worth making,” the synopsis reads.

The latest collaboration between ABC News and Hulu, Daughters of the Cult, cuts through all the true-crime documentary clutter of the last decade. Even if you're familiar with Mormon fundamentalism or watched FX's Under the Banner of Heaven (which was based on a different Mormon fundamentalist sect that also ended in violence), the story of Ervil LeBaron and his breakaway Mormon fundamentalist cult will still shock you, as it proves that evil doesn't die.
Ervil LeBaron was born and raised within one of several Mormon fundamentalist sects dedicated to the concept of "plural marriage" (polygamy) who fled to northern Mexico after breaking off from the Lds church in Salt Lake City. In 1972, Ervil and his brother Joel, the leader of their sect, suffered a falling out, and later that year Joel was murdered by Ervil's followers on his orders.

Disney have licensed two of their original shows for streaming on Itvx in a move away from the Disney+ model.

ITV said on Thursday that Under the Banner of Heaven will stream on Itvx, with Extraordinary airing on both Itvx and ITV2. Both will launch in the first half of next year.
The news comes as Disney, led by CEO Bob Iger, has started looking for additional revenue by licensing some shows instead of keeping them exclusively for its own streaming services.
Under the Banner of Heaven, created by Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black and starring Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones, is inspired by the true crime bestseller by Jon Krakauer and follows the events that led to the 1984 murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty (Edgar-Jones) and her baby daughter in a...

Disney+ has struck a deal with U.K. streamer Itvx to license some of its shows.
“Extraordinary” and “Under the Banner of Heaven” are set to drop on Itvx, which is owned by British public service broadcaster ITV, in the first half of 2024. “Extraordinary” is also set to get a linear broadcast on ITV2.
Both shows will still continue to be available on Disney+.
“Extraordinary” is a Disney+ U.K. original starring Máiréad Tyers as Jen, the only person in the world who doesn’t have a superpower. The edgy series is set in London and sees the 25-year-old navigate a world in which she alone is powerless. It was written by series creator and co-executive producer Emma Moran and executive produced by Sally Woodward Gentle (“Killing Eve”). The 1970s-set supernatural horror film The Sacrifice Game, the new film from The Ranger (you can read my 8/10 review Here) director Jenn Wexler, is scheduled to start spreading holiday fear on the Shudder streaming service on December 8th – and with that date just weeks away, a trailer for the film has arrived online! You can check it out in the embed above.
Olivia Scott Welch of the Fear Street trilogy stars in the film alongside Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Gus Kenworthy (American Horror Story: 1984), Chloë Levine (The Oa), Derek Johns (The Wolf and the Lion), Laurent Pitre (Under the Banner of Heaven), Madison Baines (1Up), and newcomer Georgia Acken.
Wexler wrote the screenplay for The Sacrifice Game with Sean Redlitz, crafting a story that’s set at The Blackvale School for Girls, 1971. It’s bad enough that students Samantha and Clara can’t go home for the holidays, but things take...

The upcoming movie I am most excited about, bar none, is Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein." One of my favorite timeless stories told by one of my favorite artists? Sign me up!
It's the film that del Toro's career has been building towards. The man loves monster movies and gothic literature like no one else. His empathy is always most reserved for the outsider, whether Hellboy, the fish man from "The Shape of Water," or the socialist rebels in Franco's Spain. These flourishes trace back to his childhood infatuation with "Frankenstein," the book and movies alike; take a look at his living room.
Del Toro, who considers Frankenstein and his monster one of fiction's few "universal" characters, has been teasing this adaptation for years. He implied it was on the horizon while speaking to ComingSoon.net in 2008 (he obviously got sidetracked in the meantime). During a 2022 sitdown with Mike Flanagan...

For All Mankind has settled into life on Mars’ self-sustaining colony in the first trailer for Season 4, but a new space race to get the “most valuable known object in our solar system” has us worried about Ed Baldwin & Co. (But mostly Ed.)
“Rocketing into the new millennium in the eight years since Season 3, Happy Valley has rapidly expanded its footprint on Mars by turning former foes into partners,” reads the official synopsis. “Now 2003, the focus of the space program has turned to the capture and mining of extremely valuable, mineral-rich asteroids that could change the future of both Earth and Mars.

When For All Mankind Season 4 gets underway on Apple TV+, viewers will see less of one of its most popular stars.
TV Line reports that Jodi Balfour is bowing out of the alt-history drama as a series regular.
Balfour, who plays Ellen, is expected to appear in some capacity.
The series has said goodbye to some fantastic people over the years, and something tells us we'll be saying goodbye to more as the years in the narrative go on.
Ellen has been a key player since For All Mankind Season 1, and her presence has been felt throughout three glorious seasons.
Knowing that we'll be seeing less of her doesn't give us much excitement for For All Mankind Season 4.
As you'll recall, the criminally underrated series ended its third season by writing out Shantel VanSanten's Karen Baldwin and Sonya Walger's Molly Cobb.

In the fall of 2021, Olivia Colman scored her first career Emmy for “The Crown” despite not having succeeded on her Oscar bid for “The Father” that spring. This made her the 16th performer to prevail at the Emmys directly after going home empty-handed at the Oscars and the fourth to do so during the 21st century. Now that the 2023 Emmy nominations ballots have been released, eight of the 16 actors who lost Oscars at the most recent ceremony officially have shots at joining Colman on this list.
Gold Derby’s Emmy odds currently indicate that the man and woman with the best hopes of following in Colman’s footsteps are Brian Tyree Henry and Hong Chau, who just received their first career Academy Award nominations for their respective supporting turns in “Causeway” and “The Whale.” Henry is seeking his second comedy supporting Emmy notice for “Atlanta,” while Chau could pull double...

“Thank you, chef.” It has been a very good week for the folks at Hulu and The Beef, as the second season of the acclaimed TV show “The Bear” has become the most-watched premiere for an FX show in the service’s history. According to the Disney-owned streamer, the show saw a 70% increase from Season 1 to 2 in terms of total hours streamed during the first four days of release. Admittedly, “The Bear” was a surprise hit last summer and took some time to catch on, but entered its second season with as much anticipation as any summer premiere, so the disparity between the season premieres shouldn’t come as much of a shock.

Plot: Follows a realtor, a former tennis star and a plumber who seize a unique opportunity to capitalize on America’s obsession with true crime
Review: The only thing that is getting more tiresome than true-crime series are the projects that try to develop a twist on the already twist-heavy genre. While adaptations of actual criminal cases and murderers have not slowed down in recent years, there has been a new crop of fictional tales focused on average people obsessed with true crime and involved in the investigation themselves. At the same time, few have come close to the brilliance of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, which has not stopped podcast-oriented copycats from popping up on other streamers. The latest addition is Peacock’s Based on a True Story. The series from producers Michael Costigan and Jason Bateman boasts the star power of Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina...

Lately, our interest in religious cults seems to be peaking, and many have capitalized on this genre. From movies like Women Talking, the Netflix documentary Keep Sweet, Prey, and Obey, and FX’s terrifying Under the Banner of Heaven, about the true-life events of Brenda Lafferty, it is an endless row that keeps growing and growing. Amazon Prime’s Shiny Happy People is the latest to have been added to this list of horrifying yet addictive shows. As someone who lives on the other side of the world, I had never heard of 19 Kids and Counting, so maybe it was my oblivion that led to the complete and utter shock I felt right from the beginning of Shiny Happy People. Carl Sagan, for those who may not know, was an astronomer and charismatic cosmologist who came into the public eye in 1980 with the broadcast of his PBS series "Cosmos: A Personal Voyage." That show, in addition to Sagan's many novels, books, and lectures, helped popularize astral science, bringing casual conversations about space to new heights.
Sagan's popularity is understandable. He was affable and well-spoken, and he talked about fun scientific concepts like the existence of UFOs, and the actual, mathematical odds that an alien civilization might someday visit Earth; given the size of the universe, Sagan calculated that there are at least a million Earth-like civilizations out there somewhere. The film "Contact" is based on his novel. Sagan was also a major advocate for marijuana use, and was rather spiritual, despite often speaking out against religion or the existence of an intelligent God. He was a fascinating dude.

After both playing key roles in TV miniseries Under The Banner Of Heaven, Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones are joining a new film that should see them sharing the screen a whole lot more. They're on for Sebastián Lelio's new film, Voyagers.
Neither a remake of the 2021 teen sci-fi movie nor an adaptation of the obscure, short-lived time-travelling TV series, this Voyagers will instead focus on the love that bloomed between astronomer/writer/presenter Carl Sagan and documentary producer/director Ann Druyan.
Voyagers unfolds in 1977 as NASA prepared to launch humanity’s first interstellar probes. A team led by Sagan sets out to create a message to accompany them, known as the Golden Record, which included music and images, for possible alien civilizations. But what starts out as a race-against-the-clock mission blossoms into a love story between Sagan and Druyan.
