Stephen Merchant has revealed he has no plans for further episodes of The Outlaws after the incoming series three: more details here.
Stephen Merchant took the British comedy scene by storm in 2001 when he wrote and directed The Office with Ricky Gervais. Since then, they have collaborated on Extras, Life’s Too Short, An Idiot Abroad and feature film Cemetery Junction. He went on to forge a successful solo career, from stand up tour Hello Ladies and the American sitcom of the same name to his successful pivot into hour long crime comedy with The Outlaws, which returns for its third series next week.
Created by Merchant and Elgin James, the show follows a disparate group of people assigned to community service for various reasons which gradually reveal themselves.
Merchant himself plays the socially awkward lawyer Greg, Baby Reindeer star Jessica Gunning plays hardnosed supervisor Diane, Rhianne Barreto plays Oxford hopeful Rani,...

Following in the footsteps of the British series An Idiot Abroad, The Reluctant Traveler put a comedic spin on the reality travel genre. On the show, Eugene Levy (who is also the show’s executive producer) finds himself playing tourist in a new location in each episode. As the show’s title suggests, though, Levy is not particularly fond of traveling, and his wariness and weariness show on the screen. When we spoke to Levy, he told us it’s not an act — he really is a reluctant traveler. (Click on the media bar below to hear Eugene Levy) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Eugene-_Levy_The_Relucant_Travler_.mp3 The Reluctant Traveler is currently streaming on Apple TV+.

One of this spring’s most anticipated television series is “Moon Knight,” the Disney+ series that stars Oscar Isaac as a veteran with dissociative identity disorder who receives the power of an Egyptian god. Much has been made about the show’s unapologetic weirdness and brutality, with fans hoping that the series can marry the charm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the creative pedigree of prestige television.
Oscar Isaac is one of the rare actors who can step between blockbuster filmmaking and serious acting with ease, so expectations are high for his take on the obscure Marvel character. In a new interview with NME, Isaac details his process for embodying the complex character. The actor revealed that he has found inspiration in some very unexpected places — primarily, British comedy.

Friends: The Reunion appears to be Sky’s lobster.
The reunion show was a big success in the UK, where it aired on Sky One. The series, which was came from producers including James Corden and Ben Winston’s Fulwell 73, drew over 5M viewers for the Comcast-owned network.
Much like the fact that Joey doesn’t share food, HBO Max, which ordered the special, doesn’t share ratings so we may never know how it did in the U.S. in comparison.
Over four viewings, across live, recorded and downloads, the series was watched by 5.3M in the UK. This was Sky’s most watched show in the last two years and second only to the final series of Game of Thrones for the biggest audience ever across Sky’s portfolio of channels.

WME’s Melissa Myers Joins Chris Coelen’s Kinetic Content To Lead Expansion Into Scripted Programming
Exclusive: Former WME Partner and literary agent Melissa Myers has been named President and Partner of a new venture between Kinetic Content founder and CEO Chris Coelen, and Red Arrow Studios, the production division of European media company ProSiebenSat.1.
This marks an expansion into scripted for Red Arrow Studios company Kinetic, a reality powerhouse behind such series as relationship mega hits Love Is Blind for Netflix and Married At First Sight for Lifetime, both created and executive produced by Coelen.
The venture is set to focus on premium high-end English-language scripted TV series with both domestic and global appeal.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) managed to stage its glitzy Film Awards in February at the Royal Albert Hall with legions of celebrities just before the coronavirus lockdown, but its Television Awards on Friday will be a very different affair.
Gone is the traditional red carpet. This year’s event is a virtual ceremony, which will be hosted from an audience-free studio by comedian, filmmaker and actor Richard Ayoade.
Even if it’s not possible for all the nominees and the TV industry to gather in person on the night, BAFTA chair Krishnendu Majumdar — who took over in June from producer Pippa Harris — says it’s important for BAFTA to “celebrate the brilliance and the importance of television” during the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown.
The co-founder of Me+You Productions, Majumdar is currently producing a new series of Dominic Savage’s drama anthology, “I Am,” starring Suranne Jones and Ashley Walters,...

Is it an idiot? Is it a buffoon? No, its Bullsh*t Man.
Karl Pilkington is best known for being An Idiot Abroad. He travels the world, he experiences life at its weirdest and then he shares his ‘worldly insights’ with us through TV, radio and his travel diaries. He’s a bit like the modern man’s David Attenborough, if David Attenborough was a bald Manc twonk.
One of Karl’s redeeming qualities, that adds a nice counterbalance to his general idiocy, is his straight-talking and down-to-earth approach to life; he doesn’t waste time mincing words when he can just tell it as it is.
On his travels, Karl even invented a new superhero persona for himself: Bullsh*t Man.
Bullsh*t Man swoops onto the scene the moment he hears anything that is utter bullsh*t. He calls it out and then flies away...

With a new show, ‘The Moaning of Life’ scheduled to start later this month, I felt the time was right to look back on the journey of Karl Pilkington and the various media in which he has been exposed to us. Some of you may know him from ‘An Idiot Abroad’ without ever having known of his part in the record breaking podcast, ‘The Ricky Gervais Show’ and those of you who know him from this may not know of the shows origins on the radio station Xfm. Hell, there may be some crazy fools who have never even heard of Karl Pilkington at all. For those of you in that category, there really is only one way to describe him.
”A bald headed Manc tw*t with a head like a f*cking orange.”
That is often how you will hear Ricky Gervais, award winning comedian and actor, describe his best friend Karl Pilkington.

In this week's edition of Must-See TV we're saying hello to a host of new shows, including Sky Atlantic's The Tunnel, and bidding a sad goodbye to a wonderful actor in a special edition of Glee.
Read on below for the full rundown and keep checking Digital Spy for our daily TV schedules quick fix...
The Tunnel: Wednesday (October 16) at 9pm on Sky Atlantic
Sky are hoping it's a case of 'anything the Scandinavians can do, we can do better', as they launch The Tunnel, based on popular Swedish/Danish police mystery The Bridge, which made its way to BBC Four last year.
The remake brings the action to the UK and France, with detectives from both countries forced into working together when a body is found at the halfway point of the Channel Tunnel. With surprises and dramatic revelations that will catch even those familiar with the original series off guard,...

Severe weather, increased heating bills, Christmas carols playing in shops. Let's face it, October is horrible. That's why we're here to give you one less thing to stress about by providing you with tantalising deets about your favourite programme in Tube Talk's Q&A!
This week, we've got news on Misfits, that thing Diana Vickers is in and Fresh Meat (yet again)...
When will Fresh Meat return?
Ah yes, it wouldn't be a proper Tube Talk Q&A without a Fresh Meat series three query from our old chum Kadeem Graham - seriously, Kadeem loves this show like Josie loves booze, like Vod loves parties, like Jp loves "classic bants"....
So, Channel 4 still hasn't confirmed an exact, concrete, honest-to-goodness air date for the new Fresh Meat episodes, but expect real, proper news soon. Like, very soon. Like, 'it might possibly be on next month' soon.

After working together as writers, producers and stars of TV hits "The Office," "Extras," the underrated "Life's Too Short" and "An Idiot Abroad," the undeniably, comedically potent duo of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant has decided to split up for their latest TV ventures. Earlier this month, Netflix debuted "Derek," the latest from Gervais, while this weekend comes "Hello Ladies," produced, written, directed and starring Merchant, with assists in all departments from Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (who helped make the U.S. port of "The Office" a success). Yet, despite a track record of success and the necessary ingredients for another hit, "Hello Ladies" is a surprisingly and disappointingly uneven effort, completely absent of the craft and precision of Merchant's previous efforts. While much of the comedy from "The Office" and "Extras" relied on David Brent and Andy Millman falling into one cringeworthy situation after another, both of those flawed and at.

Karl Pilkington has quit acting. The 'Moaning of Life' star - who shot to fame on Sky1 travel series 'An Idiot Abroad', which was co-created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant - has decided he's had enough of being in front of the camera, despite still having a small part to play in Channel 4 sitcom 'Derek'. He said: ''It's not for me. I gave it a go but I didn't like it. I'm doing a little bit in the new 'Derek' but not as much.'' Karl Pilkington has revealed that he plans to quit acting.
Pilkington played caretaker Dougie opposite cohort Ricky Gervais in Channel 4 comedy-drama Derek.
"It's not for me," he said of acting at last night's (September 18) launch of his new Sky1 series The Moaning of Life. "I gave it a go but I didn't like it.
"I'm doing a little bit in the new Derek but not as much."
Pilkington added that he prefers shooting his Sky1 series to acting, claiming that he had been "spoiled" by An Idiot Abroad and The Moaning of Life.
"As much as I complain about being away from home, I look back on it and go, 'That was good'," he explained.
"When I did the stuff in Derek, I'm in a lock-up in Uxbridge. You're sat in a caravan, waiting to be called... and I had that f**king stupid wig on."

Dwarf characters are everywhere these days. Thanks to television shows like Game of Thrones and series 3 of An Idiot Abroad dwarves – a staple of the entertainment industry for as long as there has been one – are back on our screens. For many of us though the dwarf actor and character never really went away. If you look hard enough you will see that they have been prevalent throughout the years but perhaps only recently have become the focal points of popular TV and film.
Ricky Gervais’ use of perhaps the greatest living dwarf in the world Warwick Davis has done wonders for the careers of Dwarves all over the world who are trying to break into an industry that is renowned for its exploitation of anyone who doesn’t necessarily fit into the easy mould of ‘normal’. But what is normal? What’s normal now was not normal 10 years ago...

Strictly Come Dancing winner Louis Smith has told Digital Spy that he wants Karl Pilkington to go on the next series.
The Olympic gymnast predicted that the Idiot Abroad funnyman would be an "hilarious" addition to the BBC ballroom contest.
Asked at the British Airways Silent Picturehouse launch who would be his dream contestant, Smith replied: "The guy from An Idiot Abroad, I'd love to see him on it.
"I think he'd be hilarious. He'd be brilliant. He's got such a dry sense of humour, I think he'd be so funny on the show."
On his future career plans, Smith said that he'd love to become an action movie hero - even if his acting skills aren't quite up to scratch.
"The idea [of acting] has been thrown at me, but I think you kind of need to go to drama school," he said. "My acting skills aren't very great. I can be an action hero though.

He's also known as the voice of Wheatley in Portal 2, a radio announcer on the BBC, and most recently as a stand-up comedian touring his one man show Hello Ladies. Now that show has been turned into a HBO series which follows Merchant as an awkward, overly confident Englishman trying to date in Los Angeles -- where his attempts to infiltrate the world of beautiful people are not successful. Thousands of balding little Englanders will flock into the streets chanting “I could eat a nob at night, I could eat a nob at night” over and over again like a bunch of demented Hare Krishna’s.

Warwick Davis has suggested that a new series of An Idiot Abroad may be a long while coming because his co-star Karl Pilkington locks the door when he visits him.
Davis and Pilkington filmed the travel documentary for Sky1 last year, featuring them touring unusual destinations around the world selected by Ricky Gervais.
Speaking about the possibility of another series, Davis said: "I don't think I can get Karl out of the door. I go to his house and he shuts the door and locks it.
"We have said we'll get together after filming Life's Too Short for a cup of tea and a bun. He likes that."
Davis also joked that he'd like to do another series with a twist and send Ricky Gervais on tour instead. "I'd love to make Ricky leave Hampstead for longer than a few hours," he laughed.

Dan Mazer’s I Give It A Year is a film I’ve really been looking forward to. There are a handful of genres that we tend to do very well on our shores, and the rom-com is one of them. (I point you in the direction of Love Actually, Four Weddings, Wimbledon, and the like.)
The film arrives in UK theatres today, and if you’re heading out to the cinema tonight or over the weekend, this looks to be an excellent choice.
Rose Byrne, Rafe Spall, Anna Faris, and Simon Baker head up a brilliant cast. And as the film hits theatres on our shores, StudioCanal have released a great new clip and featurette.
“Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat (Byrne) and struggling novelist Josh (Spall) have been deliriously happy despite their differences. Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer ..but the spark between them is undeniable.

Warwick Davis is very much the toast of the town at the moment. For a start, he is heading up his own starring vehicle, the hilarious comedy Life’s Too Short, written & directed by Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant, which is set to return to our screens this Easter. Then there was his victory in the Great British Bake Off for Comic Relief; and his role in the final series of An Idiot Abroad where he was the vessel in which the gimp-faced, round-headed Manc twonk that is Karl Pilkington could vent his constant frustration.
But Warwick already has a fascinating and prolific body of work that spans Ewoks, Leprechauns, Goblins and Bollywood- Star Wars, Harry Potter, and now Doctor Who- you name it, Warwick’s probably been in it.
His big project at the moment is the app Pocket Warwick. How to describe it? Well, imagine a tamagotchi...

Ricky Gervais has been answering the constant question regarding Derek- “is it a drama or a comedy?”- with the response “it is what you think it is- what’s your life like, a drama with funny bits in it, or a comedy with dramatic bits?”. To me, so far the series seems to be a very sweet, beautifully realised little drama with the odd bit of humour- this is not some backhanded compliment, if anything it’s real praise.
Tonight’s opener isn’t earth-shatteringly amazing, but it shouldn’t be. Gervais has a job of introducing the uninitiated to this intimate little world he has created. Nothing much happens, and there aren’t any truly heart-wrenching moments that will make you cry, or jokes that will make you howl with laughter, but that is the point- real life isn’t like that.

Dan Mazer’s I Give It A Year will be released in the UK in just a few short weeks, and we can’t wait for it to hit. Given what we’ve seen so far, I think it has the potential to be far and away the best British romantic comedy in years.
We saw a great new clip last week, giving us a good look at the Best Man’s speech that’s teased in the first two trailers. And now digitalspy have debuted a great new set of six character posters, giving us a new look at the leading cast.
“Since they met at a party, ambitious high-flyer Nat (Byrne) and struggling novelist Josh (Spall) have been deliriously happy despite their differences. Josh is a thinker, Nat’s a doer ..but the spark between them is undeniable.
Their wedding is a dream come true, but family, friend...

It’s been a solid week of TV, with the comedies in particular having strong showings, but this week on the podcast, the focus is on Fringe, which concluded its five season run this past Friday. After talking through Our Week in TV, including Tuesday Comedies (Ben and Kate, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Happy Endings, Cougar Town), Parenthood, Justified, Top Chef Seattle, American Horror Story: Asylum, Thursday Comedies (30 Rock, Parks and Rec, the premiere of Archer, and the pilots of Legit and Newsreaders), The Vampire Diaries, Last Resort, the An Idiot Abroad premiere, Girls, Bunheads, we put The Following pilot in our second-ever Spotlight of Shame. Then it’s over to the DVD Shelf, where we welcome Noel Murray from the Av Club to help us break down the finale, final season, and entire run of Fringe.
