It’s last call for a number of films and TV shows leaving Netflix in June. Director Frank Darabont’s underrated Stephen King adaptation “The Mist” exits on June 21, while the end of the month brings the exits of “Jerry Maguire,” “Puss in Boots,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” a pair of “Resident Evil” movies and Brad Pitt’s pretty-ok zombie actioner “World War Z.”
Also departing on June 30 is the first two seasons of “Chappelle’s Show.”
All-in-all, however, it’s not a robust list so rest easy knowing an exodus isn’t coming to Netflix. This month at least.

Sharon Horgan could be set to follow in the footsteps of another acclaimed multi-hyphenate, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, by earning Emmy bids for both writing and starring in a beloved show. While Waller-Bridge achieved that feat for her comedy “Fleabag,” Horgan could do it for her Apple TV+ drama “Bad Sisters.” Horgan co-created, starred in, and wrote several episodes of this hit show, which follows the five Garvey sisters who plot to murder John Paul (Claes Bang), the abusive husband of Anne-Marie Duff‘s Grace Garvey.
The show flashes between two timelines — one in which the sisters try to kill John Paul and one in which a pair of insurance investigators (Brian Gleeson‘s Thomas and Daryl McCormack‘s Matthew) try to prove the sisters’ involvement in John Paul’s death to save their own business.
Horgan teamed up with “New Girl” scribes Brett Baer and Dave Finkel to adapt the hit Belgian show “Clan.

The day has finally arrived: Netflix has ads.
On Thursday, the streaming giant officially released its “Basic with Ads” tier in the United States. The cheap(er) subscription plan includes four to five minutes of ads per hour, with each ad being about 15-30 seconds long. These spots play both before titles and in the middle of films and TV episodes. There’s certain exceptions; when new Netflix original films coming to the streamer, like “Knives Out 2,” all ads play before the movie starts. However, not all movies have the ad-tier option.
Four of the movies on the streamer’s current Top 10 are unavailable on the plan. Those titles still appear in searches on the ad tier, but they’re marked with a red lock icon in the right-hand of its thumbnail. Clicking on an unavailable film opens up a window prompting the user to change their subscription in order to access the content.

Premiering on October 25, 1997, Under Wraps was the inaugural Disney Channel Original Movie. The cornerstone of the network’s programming proved to be as close to appointment viewing as it got for ‘90s kids, along with the likes of ABC’s Tgif and Nickelodeon’s Snick. Moreover, Under Wraps served as a gateway to horror for many millennials. Before the age of streaming, catching a mummy movie on the same channel where you watched Disney cartoons and Boy Meets World reruns could have been your first exposure to the macabre.
Disney attempted to recapture the magic with last year’s Under Wraps remake. The original movie was successful — and continues to hold up 25 years later — for several reasons; relatable kid leads, a great Halloween atmosphere, and a sense of humor chief among them. Director/co-writer Alex Zamm and co-writer William Robertson (Inspector Gadget 2) smartly maintained those elements for the new iteration.

“Free Guy” (Disney/$19.99) is now on Premium VOD after a 45-day window, “The Addams Family 2” (United Artists/$19.99) is new at theaters and on PVOD, and even though it will be weeks before box-office champion “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (Sony) makes its PVOD debut, it’s already making itself known on the charts. The platforms’ uneasy relationship continues to evolve.
It was a great weekend for theaters with “Carnage” taking in $90 million domestic, a success hinted by strong VOD showings the week prior with the 2018 “Venom” (Sony). The upcoming premiere of Buddy vs. Duff on the Food Network will feature a competition between Cake Boss reality star Buddy Valastro and his fellow baker, Duff Goldman of Cake Masters.
But no matter who wins, Valastro will come out ahead. That’s because he thought at one time he’d never bake again after a gruesome injury to his hand.
The two-hour premiere of Buddy vs. Duff arrives this Sunday, and will kick off with Valastro sharing updates on his recovery. The freak accident that damaged his wrist happened at his home bowling alley last September, with a metal rod impaling him as he tried to fix a jam.
That resulted in multiple surgeries and having to learn to decorate using his non-dominant hand at times. Even so, the loss of strength in his main arm made it difficult to do the many tasks required to bake elaborate cakes,...

McG has officially signed up to direct the pilot episode of Turner & Hooch, Disney+’s reboot of the classic 1989 buddy-cop comedy feature. The TV series, which has a 12-episode order, comes from Matt Nix and 20th TV. McG also will serve as an executive producer on the series, which is now in production.
Like the movie, the hourlong series centers on Scott Turner, played by Josh Peck, who now is a U.S. marshal — versus the police detective played by Tom Hanks in the movie. When the ambitious, buttoned-up marshal inherits a big unruly dog, he soon realizes the pet he didn’t want may be the partner he needs.
In addition to Peck, the series also stars Carra Patterson, Brandon Jay McLaren, Anthony Ruivivar, Lyndsy Fonseca, Jeremy Maguire and Vanessa Lengies. Five French Mastiffs also star as Hooch, Scott’s slobbery, loveable French Mastiff, Arnie, Hammer, Obi, Cyd and Mya.

A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.
Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.
Thankfully Hulu’s library titles are a bit livelier this month. Jan. 1 sees the arrival of Blade Runner: The Final Cut,...

Hulu is kicking off the new year in style next month, with January set to deliver a ton of fresh titles to the Disney-owned streaming service. There’s a bunch of original content landing throughout the first few weeks of 2021, but probably the highlight is the incredible number of classic movies that are going up on the site on New Year’s Day. Whether you’re in the mood for iconic comedies, dramas, animated efforts or sci-fi flicks, there’s something for you on the way.
There are well over 100 films being added to Hulu’s library on January 1st, so let’s just pick out a few notable titles. The full Austin Powers trilogy is among them, and if you can’t get enough of Mike Myers, the first Shrek likewise becomes available. For dramas, there’s Robert Downey Jr. biopic Chaplin, Johnny Depp vehicle Donnie Brasco and Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show.

“The Duff” star Bella Thorne inadvertently drew the ire of sex workers after racking up $2 million in just one week on website OnlyFans, a popular destination for porn stars and their fans.
Immediately following the mainstream actress’s financial windfall, the website, which allows users to monetize direct connections with subscribers, lowered monetization maximums for content creators and delayed payouts to 21 days (from 7 days) for those in certain countries.
Those terms of use alterations are big deals to sex workers, especially those overseas, because there is big money at play here. Siri Dahl, one of the top-earning adult film actresses on OnlyFans, told TheWrap that “75-80%” of her income comes from her work on the website.
Dahl, who is based in the U.S., also told us that OnlyFans regularly — and quietly — changes its terms and conditions. That’s scary for those in her industry.

The risk in incorporating science fiction into your storytelling in 2020 is that reality has a way of turning the outlandish into the shockingly plausible. At least that’s what The Office creator Greg Daniels discovered when developing his digital afterlife sci-fi comedy Upload for Amazon Prime.
“I hired the cast in 2017, so we’ve been working for a long time together. And whenever anything (similar to the show) hits the news, it just goes around our text chain really fast,” Daniels says.
Some stories that went around this text chain include: tensions between the U.S. and Iran rising (Daniels had made one of his characters a victim of a fictional U.S.-Iranian War), information about China’s Black Mirror-esque “social credit” system, which resembled a social credit dating app from the show, and of course: the dangers of vaping. Though to be fair, predicting that hospitals may...

The panel of judges on “The Masked Singer” continued their horrific track record of guesses on Wednesday night when they all failed to realize actress Bella Thorne was hiding inside the Swan costume. “Come on!” Thorne shouted at Ken Jeong, who co-starred with her in “The Duff.” Despite working with the panelist and even giving him a shout out during her performance of “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” Jeong could not figure out the entertainer was hiding behind the mask. Watch her performance of the Joan Jett & the Blackhearts classic hit above.

What a season this is turning out to be. Last week, Sarah Palin in a bear costume. This week, it's Bella Thorne as a swan. This episode of The Masked Singer was another example of the best kind of reveal, where it's someone Ken has co-starred with and yet doesn't recognize even a little bit. He and Bella were in The Duff together back in 2015, and she has also worked with Nick Cannon before. Bella said she did the show because she saw how many times Ken guessed her for the Flamingo in season two. "That made me super excited. I started watching the show and I just thought it was so amazing, so dope, and I was like, let's do that," she said. "Getting in front...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 3, episode 8 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired March 18 on Fox.
Bella Thorne is the latest celebrity to be revealed on “The Masked Singer,” and to do so without any of the show’s panelists figuring out her identity.
Thorne, who was costumed as the Swan, performed “I Hate Myself for Loving You” by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, a song she jokingly dedicated to “Masked Singer” panelist Ken Jeong. In an interview with Variety, Thorne revealed that she was sick while shooting that performance — which perhaps played a role in her exit.
“I got really, really sick right before I was singing and I basically didn’t have a voice,” she said. “I was like, guys, what happens if I literally lose my voice tomorrow completely and I can’t talk? They were like, ‘well, you’ll still have to sing like that.

“I got really, really sick right before I was singing and I basically didn’t have a voice,” she said. “I was like, guys, what happens if I literally lose my voice tomorrow completely and I can’t talk? They were like, ‘well, you’ll still have to sing like that.
