Exclusive: Ashley Nicole Black is doubling down on both sides of the camera.
The two-time past Emmy winner has joined the second season of Shrinking and the upcoming first season of Bad Monkey, I’ve learned.
However, Black’s’ addition to the two AppleTV+ series, executive produced by Bill Lawrence, is both a little unconventional and playing to all the Black Lady Sketch Show vet’s strengths. While it was already out there that Black was writing on the Vince Vaughn-led Bad Monkey, she will also be a member of the cast of the Florida-set restaurant-inspecting comedy. Also, having been part of the award-winning Ted Lasso writing team, Black is now joining Lawrence and Brett Goldstein on their Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams and Jason Segal-led therapists comedy show.
Like on Bad Monkey, Black will be both a writer on Shrinking Season 2 and a member of the cast.

Steve Carell has been responsible for some of the funniest characters on the big and small screen this century. Brick Tamland in Anchorman, Michael Scott in The Office, Gru in Despicable Me, Mark R. Naird in Space Force — the list goes on. Now, per THR's reporting, Carell is set to add another notch to his funnyman belt with a starring role in a new HBO comedy from Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence and Scrubs' Matt Tarses.
The victor of a multi-platform bidding war, HBO have ordered the as-yet-untitled show straight-to-series, with a 10-episode first season in development. Lawrence and Tarses, who are currently hard at work on Apple TV's upcoming Vince Vaughn comedy series Bad Monkey, are set to write the first episode of this show, a single-camera comedy set on a college campus that centres around the complicated relationship between an author (presumably Carell) and his daughter.

"Wedding Crashers" and "Anchorman" star Vince Vaughn showed up during the big game alongside two of the greatest sports legends of all time: Tom Brady and Wayne Gretzky. The former Patriots quarterback and NHL hockey legend were seen alongside Vaughn in a BetMGM ad, which aired during this year's Super Bowl between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. While the Chiefs won the game, the commercial was also a winner. But how is it that this became Vaughn's first Super Bowl commercial during his long career that spans more than three decades?

Channing Dungey first joined Warner Bros. TV Group as chairman in late 2020 — right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, which made for an interesting first year on the job. Then came the Warner Media-Discovery merger in 2022, and the restructuring that came with it. In 2023, the Hollywood strikes disrupted the business again.
“It’s been a lot of tumult since I’ve been in the role,” Dungey recently reflected to Variety. “I’m hoping — and I’m knocking wood as I say this — that as we round the corner into 2024, we’re behind some of those bigger challenges. I’m sure there will be something new on the horizon, but I’m hopeful that 2024 marks a return to business as usual.”
The entertainment industry remains in flux, of course, with more disruption anticipated this year. But in her own corner of the biz, Dungey said she feels some truly positive momentum.

The actress, represented by power lawyer Laura Wasser, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. The filing, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, also lists the date of separation as Sept. 13. THR has reached out to representatives for both and will update accordingly. The couple share one child, a daughter named Juno Rose Diana Jackson, who was born April 13, 2020.
Neither party has commented publicly on the divorce, but on that separation date, Turner-Smith took to Instagram to post images from her birthday party at the Flower Shop in New York. Her carousel of pics did not include any with Jackson, who was present at the event though they arrived and left separately, per Entertainment Tonight. “As I embark on another new year, I can...

Usually, the fall season brings dozens of new TV shows to the airwaves, but with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the season looks like it may be a virtual dead zone, and that’s not only because no shows are currently shooting. Fully completed seasons are also sitting on the shelf, with many of them star-driven projects that need their talent front and center, selling them to get the viewership they need to succeed.
According to a report in THR, this includes already wrapped seasons of Feud, the Orphan Black spinoff Echoes at AMC+, Paramount’s Frasier sequel series and new star-driven prestige projects. This includes shows like Vince Vaughn’s Bad Monkey, Palm Royale with Kristen Wiig and Laura Dern, and The Curse starring Emma Stone. Even a show like Fargo, which should have a built-in audience, will likely find its latest season delayed. The new season stars Jon Hamm...

In executive suites all over Hollywood, the conversation has turned to whether to air or shelve content.
In the wake of SAG-AFTRA’s July 13 decision to join the Writers Guild of America on strike, television executives, like their film counterparts, have found themselves thrust into this debate. Without any clear sense of how long the work stoppage will last, the question becomes: Do you really want to run through what ammo you have so early in the fight? And, for that matter, is it worth rolling out series without stars available to promote them?
At multiple streamers, discussions are already underway about potentially moving certain fully shot (but undated) series to early 2024, if not simply benching them until the dual strike ends. In at least a few cases, executives say the stars themselves have asked that their shows be held so that they can be involved in both the promotion and the celebration.

Time to brush up on the 5 D’s of “Dodgeball” — “dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge” — because a sequel to the 2004 hit comedy is officially in the works.
Vince Vaughn is returning to star in the sequel, which is in early development at 20th Century Studios. Plot details are being kept under wraps but Jordan VanDina (“The Binge”) has signed on to pen the script, from an idea by Vaughn.
The original film “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story,” followed Peter La Fleur (Vaughn), owner of Average Joe’s Gym, a small and shabby, yet cherished, local haunt frequented by a group of misfits. In order to save the gym from being taken over by Globo Gym, a corporate fitness chain run by White Goodman (Ben Stiller), Peter and his friends enter a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament with a $50,000 grand prize.

Exclusive: Vince Vaughn will return to star in (and likely produce) a sequel to his hit 2004 comedy, Dodgeball, scripted by Jordan VanDina (The Binge), which is in early development at 20th Century Studios, Deadline has learned.
While Rawson Marshall Thurber wrote and directed the original film for 20th Century Fox, it’s not yet clear whether he’ll be involved in the sequel, and who, if not Thurber, would direct. Equally uncertain is who will join Vaughn on screen, though there’s certainly a deep bench of talent to pull from in looking back to Dodgeball‘s stacked ensemble, which included Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Justin Long, Stephen Root, Alan Tudyk, Joel David Moore, Chris Williams, Missi Pyle, Gary Cole, Jason Bateman and William Shatner, as well as the late Rip Torn.

Joshua Jackson has no problem talking about sex. In our time together, he doesn’t blush when referencing a woman’s nipples or breaking down how two people “fuck” on television. He’s been viewed as a sex symbol since he was a teen, playing the class-clown-turned-heartthrob Pacey Witter on “Dawson’s Creek,” and now it’s just who he is.
And it’s a very big part of “Fatal Attraction.” “The sex scenes are of great importance,” says Jackson, 44, “because they’re furthering the narrative. You have to believe that these people want to fuck each other.” The series, which premieres on Paramount+ on April 30, doesn’t shy away from the kind of nudity that Hollywood used to pepper R-rated adult movies with in the ’70s and ’80s.
Most know the story behind the 1987 film starring Glenn Close and Michael Douglas, which grossed $320 million worldwide and was nominated for six Academy Awards,...

With seemingly every beloved sitcom under the sun getting the reboot treatment in recent years, it’s only a matter of time before “Scrubs” returns to the proverbial airwaves in some capacity. Bill Lawrence has never been shy about wanting to make a movie out of his iconic hospital comedy — and if social media posts and Super Bowl commercials are any indicator, his cast seems to be taking every opportunity to spend time together.
So it’s inevitable that members the show’s creative team are frequently asked about a potential movie while promoting other projects. Speaking to Variety about his Apple TV+ series “Shrinking,” Lawrence gave an update on a potential “Scrubs” revival — and offered fans some good news.

Though his days as the boss of True Detective are behind him, Nic Pizzolatto has other things to focus on. Prime among them is his directorial debut, Easy's Waltz, which has snagged Al Pacino, Vince Vaughn, Michelle Monaghan and Simon Rexto star.
Pizzolatto also wrote the script for the new drama, which Deadline has heard is a mix of Swingers and A Star Is Born, as the film follows a down-on-his-luck comedian-crooner navigating modern Las Vegas with old-school Vegas personalities.
Vaughn (who appeared in Season 2 of Detective) is back working with Monaghan again after they both just worked on Ted Lasso boss Bill Lawrence's new Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey. Pacino last shot Knox Go Away, directed by Michael Keaton, and Rex most recently worked on My Dead Dad and Mack & Rita.
Easy's Waltz doesn't have a release date on the books yet.

"True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto will make his feature film directorial debut with the drama "Easy's Waltz." Deadline confirmed the news, revealing the project will star Vince Vaughn alongside Michelle Monaghan, Simon Rex, and Al Pacino. Unsurprisingly, given his history of penning entire seasons of his crime drama anthology solo, Pizzolatto will also be on screenwriting duty for the film, which is described as a mix of "Swingers" and "A Star Is Born."
"Easy's Waltz" will reportedly focus on a "down-on-his-luck comedian-crooner" in modern-day Las Vegas, who navigates the city alongside "old-school Vegas personalities." Not much else is known about the project, which is being produced by Margot Hand, who also lent her producing talents to 2021's "Passing."
No release has been announced, and further details are yet to be revealed, but this will be the second time Pizzolatto and Vaughn have teamed up, following the latter's starring role in season 2 of "True Detective.

Veteran Warner Bros. Television casting executive Findley Davidson has departed the studio after 15 years, most recently as head of New York casting. She has launched her own, New York-based independent casting office, Findley Davidson Casting, which will offer casting services for film, television, and theatre.
Davidson, who joined Wbtv in 2008, was made VP and head of the studio’s New York casting office in 2019, following the retirement of VP Meg Simon after a 40-year career. I hear Wbtv will maintain some casting presence in New York though it is not expected to be at the level of the past. The studio’s parent Warner Bros. Discovery has been in a cost-cutting mode post-merger, and casting is one of the areas where the company has scaled back, including the elimination of the HBO Max casting department in favor of adopting HBO’s model that involves using casting directors on individual shows.

But Ford already has a new TV series, “Shrinking,” coming out a month later, and a little over a week before the premiere of the series, the full trailer has been released by Apple TV+ out of its Television Critics Association winter press tour conference.
