Claire Rousay has spent the past few years building her own adventurous style of electronic collage, calling it “emo ambient.” Sentiment is her self-described pop album, building her late-night diary entries out of synth textures, warped melodies, robot AutoTune vocals, rock guitar weaving in and out of the mix. But it’s a fantastic tour de force. She’s got a brilliant flair for twisted love songs, as in “Head,” where she sings, “Spending half my whole life giving you head/Just in case you need to forgive me one day for something I did.

Irish heartthrob and "Normal People" star Paul Mescal has been one to watch in recent years. Heralded as an up-and-coming talent with a breakthrough Hulu series under his belt, he was always going places. And 2023 seems to be the year he's reached the top of the mountain after being announced as a surprise nominee for best actor at the 2023 Oscars for his moving turn as single dad Calum in Charlotte Wells's father-daughter drama "Aftersun." Although he lost out to Brendan Fraser, the accolade has cemented his position as an A-list star.
Mescal's acting career started mostly on stage, starring in the likes of "The Great Gatsby," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and the world premiere of "Asking For It." However, it was his 2020 television debut in "Normal People" that catapulted him into the public eye overnight. Playing Connell in the BBC adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel caught the attention...

It's fair to say that the world is ready to see more of Stephanie Hsu. Following her success with "Everything Everywhere All at Once", the actor has taken on several new projects, including the Disney+ series "American Born Chinese" and the raunchy comedy "Joy Ride," which she stars in alongside "Emily in Paris" star Ashley Park.
The film, which hit theaters on July 7, centers around a lawyer named Audrey (Park) who travels to China with a group of her closest friends in search of her birth mother. The unapologetic, hilarious nature of the flick gave Hsu a chance to do something outside her normal bubble, which was a thrill to experience, according to the actor. "It felt so exciting to get to do what we never get to do, which is to be completely unhinged, disgusting, grotesque, chaotic, wild, but still so full of heart," she explained in a July 2023 interview with Elle.

Kiersey Clemons is a superb talent who has proven her ability in films like Hearts Beat Loud and Asking for It. She is once again magnetic in writer-director Tayarisha Poe’s follow-up to Selah and the Spades as a bride that no one seems to truly notice or care about being happy. The Young Wife isn’t nearly as depressing or foreboding as another miserable wedding movie, Melancholia, but there’s still a sense something could go seriously wrong at any moment, and only its title character would notice.
Onscreen text invites audiences to the party - it’s not a wedding - of Celestina (Clemons) and River (Leon Bridges). A horde of people descend on Celestina’s home, each arriving with their own energy and distinctly ignoring the vibe she’d like to have on her big day...

The ruthless vigilante girl gang at the center of “Asking for It” is introduced to the audience mainly through still photos. Each member has their name splashed across the screen, followed by a quick cut of candy-coated, provocative images — Regina (Alexandra Shipp) licks the sharp blade of a knife, Beatrice (Vanessa Hudgens) models before a glittery background, Sal (Radha Mitchell) leans on a car wearing aviators and a menacing glare. These snapshots seem to imply that they’ve been in the game for a while, their fierce poses standing in for any semblance of character building. Their pasts are less important than their present mission — to reap violent revenge against the men who have sexually assaulted them and their fellow gang members.

This “Asking for It” review was first published June 13, 2021 from the Tribeca Film Festival.
Eschewing subtlety for in-your-face urgency, Eamon O’Rourke’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere “Asking for It” is packed with familiar faces, timely messages, and righteous fervor. Trashing the screen like “Promising Young Woman”‘s feisty Gen-z sister, it has all the makings of a solid cult favorite.
O’Rourke has thoughtfully curated an unusually strong lineup for a feature debut, both onscreen and off. Our entry into the film’s world is wide-eyed, sweet-natured Joey (co-producer Kiersey Clemons), a small-town waitress who lives with her grandparents (veterans Patricia Belcher and Wayne Dehart). A chance meeting with an old friend leads to a devastating night that threatens to destroy Joey’s soul.
The change in her demeanor is noticed by Regina, a diner regular who introduces Joey to her friends, the vigilante Cherry Bombers. All of them have...

On paper, the premise of writer-director Eamon O’Rourke’s feature debut seems irresistible: An all-girl gang of abuse survivors, seriously upskilled in the use of baseball bats, bombs and butterfly knives, roams heartland America exacting vengeance on Bad Men — which here means #AlmostAllMen. But in execution (and there are precious few of those), “Asking for It” is too much like its cardboard heroines: edgy on the outside, empty within. It’s the “Charlie’s Angels” freeze-pose of rape-revenge movies.
The opening — a montage culled from the lower reaches of the collective incel id — promises better. In a flurry of YouTube clips and TikTok testimonials, we’re introduced to the fully loathsome Mark Vanderhill (Ezra Miller), a pick-up artist turned Men’s Rights crusader whose mantra of male dominance, expressed through the subjugation of women and the undiscerning worship of the submachine gun, might seem exaggerated if you have been in a...

"Remember boys - be nice!" Paramount + Saban Films have debuted an official trailer for an indie vigilante thriller titled Asking For It, which is arriving in March on VOD. This originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, but we haven't heard much buzz bout it, in fact we haven't heard anything about it at all before now. But it still looks badass! When a small town waitress is sexually assaulted after a date with her old friend, she befriends a mysterious stranger who introducers her to an all femme gang. Together they strive to take down a society overpowered by corrupt men and seek the ultimate revenge while getting their own version of justice. The ensemble cast features Kiersey Clemons, Vanessa Hudgens, Alexandra Shipp, Ezra Miller, Radha Mitchell, Gabourey Sidibe, and Luke Hemsworth. Hell yes!! This looks like a gnarly bring-it-on, don't-fuck-with-these-ladies vengeance flick that will definitely rattle some cages.
