Even though we saw the last Harry Potter movie 13 years ago, the discussions regarding the franchise’s characters and the actors who portrayed them aren’t going to subside in a while. The same is with the first movies’ antagonist, fierce and arrogant Draco Malfoy, who was convincingly played by Tom Felton, the fandom’s favorite blondie.
It can seem that the actor now stays out of the spotlight or is out of acting at all, however, he isn’t. Indeed, after his Hp success Felton took smaller roles in a number of lesser-known projects, but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth a try.
The same year when The Deathly Hallows – Part 2 was released, the Draco actor appeared in Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011), which gained a lot of hype at the time. The role of Dodge Landon marked a far cry from the role of Harry Potter’s rival.

Fandoms everywhere can now rejoice, for in October Our Flag Means Death finally returns to our screens for its second season. Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi will be romancing the high seas once more thanks to an enormous outpouring of love and support from the show’s fans. The safety of the cult favorite is not yet known beyond season two, but if this one is as good as the first, it certainly won’t be for lack of trying.

Xavier Giannoli is one of those rare French directors who has a stronger relationship with the Venice Film Festival than Cannes back home.
He has competed for Venice’s Golden Lion three times in the last decade with Superstar (2012), Marguerite (2015) and the sumptuous Honoré de Balzac adaptation Lost Illusions (2021).
The filmmaker is back for a fourth time this year playing Out of Competition with his first-ever drama series, the international thriller Of Money And Blood. All 12 episodes will world premiere in a marathon screening on Thursday, with further seances at the back end of the festival.
Liberally adapted from the eponymous book by investigative journalist Fabrice Arfi, the series delves into a real-life, carbon credit tax scam, which swindled the French state of at least $1.7 billion, in an operation that came to be known as the “fraud of the century” when it came to trial in 2018.

Sleep Token have announced a new album, titled Take Me Back to Eden. In advance of the album’s May 19th release, the UK experimental metal act has shared the new single and video “Vore.”
The mysterious band has amassed a viral following via a string of recent singles. The track “The Summoning” alone has more than 16 million global streams, thanks in part to a co-sign by pop superstar Demi Lovato, who shared a Spotify link to the song with her 140-plus million Instagram followers.
Often tagged as “alternative metal,” Sleep Token transcend that somewhat generic labeling, combining djent, Deftones-y melodic metal, and progressive pop. The new single “Vore” is a strong example of this multi-faceted sound.
Much of Sleep Token’s allure comes from their reclusiveness. “Sleep Token notoriously do not speak to the press,” reads the press release for Take Me Back to Eden. And the cloaked central...

Many modern films embrace 1980s nostalgia, but few embody the lo-fi aesthetic like Forgotten Trash. The shot-on-video sci-fi horror movie is available for digital download from Retro Video Pictures. Here’s the trailer:
A recent film school graduate stumbles across an alien in the woods who convinces him to help with an intergalactic television show. Little does he know that the extraterrestrial entertainment involves traveling from planet to planet and killing the inhabitants.
Forgotten Trash is written and directed by Brandon Espana, whose passion for filmmaking bleeds into the storyline along with social commentary regarding media consumption. Connor McDonald and Steve Kasan star.
Rather than adding digital effects, Espana shot the movie on a MiniDV camcorder then transferred it to VHS to capture the grainy visuals. It plays like a genuine relic rather than a pastiche of tongue-in-cheek nostalgia. “I wasn’t trying to make something self-referential,” Espana explains. “It...

Music Box has acquired Xavier Giannoli’s “Lost Illusions,” a sprawling costume drama with Benjamin Voisin (“Summer of 85”) and Xavier Dolan (“Mommy”), that competed at the Venice Film Festival and played at San Sebastian.

September usually means the beginning of the traditional fall TV season. As such, Hulu’s list of new releases for September 2021 contains some impressive TV swings.
For starters, all of ABC and Fox’s (both now united under the Disney banner alongside Hulu) fall season offerings will be made available to stream on Hulu the next day. More impressively, however, two FX on Hulu originals make their way to the streaming world this month.
The first is the long-awaited adaptation of the classic comic Y: The Last Man. The story of a virus that destroys every mammal with a Y-chromosome (save for one escape artist and his monkey) is set to premiere on September 13. Shortly after that, the B.J. Novak-produced anthology series The Premise arrives on September 16. Even those who are fatigued from timely anthology concepts will want to check this one out.

When it released Wonder Woman 1984 to its HBO Max servers in December, WarnerMedia made it abundantly clear that it was ready for a new era of movie distribution. Now, in its list of new releases for February 2021, Warner is attempting another grand experiment for HBO Max.
Judas and the Black Messiah premieres on HBO Max this Feb. 12 and is by every indication the kind of film that awards shows go gaga over. Both Daniel Kaluuya and and Lakeith Stanfield look to be at the top of their respective games in this story about Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and the FBI that wants to take him down. Will this have the same rhetorical oomph on the small screen? Guess we’ll find out!

Sundance premiere, Hal, about Oscar-nominated filmmaker Hal Ashby boasts an impressive roster of stars talking about the director behind classics such as Harold and Maude, Shampoo and Being There. Oscilloscope opens the doc exclusively in New York today before heading to L.A. next weekend. On behalf of the Vatican, a grizzled war journalist investigates a cult that has grown around a vision of the Blessed Virgin in rural France
Xavier Giannoli’s The Apparition is a flawed but heartfelt film about the mysterious workings of divine grace, and things that can’t entirely be explained away. It is showily freighted with the music of Monteverdi, Arvo Pärt and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Giannoli’s film-making has its own fluency, seriousness and weight. Like Jacques Audiard, he knows how to get the wide shot and the bigger picture, the panoramic sweep that exalts the immediate emotional drama. Unlike Audiard, he does not always marry the excellent performances to a story that really means something. There is a bit of redundancy.

There is something about French actor Vincent Lindon’s face which somehow manages to give any film he’s ever been involved in gravitas and urgency, no matter what the subject matter may be. Lindon, who most will remember from his award-winning turn in Stéphane Brizé’s 2015 Cannes hit The Measure of Man, manages yet another tour de force in Xavier Giannoli’s new film The Apparition in which he stars as a former war correspondent caught up in the middle of a religious investigation concerning a recent apparition of the Virgin Mary.
After years of reporting the news from war zones and putting his life at risk, Jacques Mayano (Lindon) is left in shock and deaf in one ear when a bomb blast in Iraq kills his best friend who also happens to be his photographer. Now back in Paris and attempting to make sense of his life once again,...

Like a Dan Brown movie made with more naturalistic, art house intentions, The Apparition (L’Apparition) combines a mystery plot involving the Catholic church with the continent-hopping story of a traumatized war reporter seeking the truth at all costs.

The films join slate also featuring Malgorzata Szumowska’s Mug and Nicolas Pesce S&M comedy Piercing.
Memento Films International (Mfi) has boarded world sales on Brazilian filmmaker Gabriel Mascaro’s “erotic gospel film” Overgod and French director Lou Jeunet’s Curiosa, set against the backdrop of the erotic photography scene in Belle Epoque Paris, ahead of the Efm.
The new acquisitions join an already impressive slate also featuring Malgorzata Szumowska’s Golden Bear contender Mug and Nicolas Pesce S&M comedy Piercing, which just made a buzzy debut at Sundance.
Described by Mascaro’s own production company Desvia as “an erotic gospel film”, Overgod revolves around Joana, a 40-year-old notary and devoted Evangelical Christian.

According to TVLine, the CW’s hit superhero drama The Flash has recruited Harry Potter star Tom Felton to join Season 3 in a series regular role.

Season 3 of The Flash is taking on the DC Comics’ famous Flashpoint storyline, and as to how Felton will figure into the plot is yet unknown.
Felton is best known for portraying the notorious sorcerer Draco Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter films. Other film credits include Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, The Apparition, In Secret, Belle, Against The Sun and Risen.

According to the newest episode of Heroic Insider, hosted by Hollywood producer Daniel Alter (The Apparition, Hitman: Agent 47) and Heroic Hollywood's Umberto 'ElMayimbe' Gonzalez, DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns and Oscar winner Ben Affleck will have "complete creative control" over the solo Batman film. Which logically indicates that Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Charles Roven or any other frequent Dceu overseer has no say on what Johns and Affleck ultimately cook up. Alter and Gonzalez further report that Affleck is taking the lead and Johns is more of a consultant, providing necessary references to comic book lore and not necessarily shaping the story. After months of speculation, WB recently confirmed that Affleck will indeed star, write and direct the solo Batman film. The film is currently without a release date but Warner Bros. has snagged two dates in 2018 and 2019 for future Dceu installments. It's probable that one of...

Ex to Grind: Dante’s ZomCom Never Finds Its Pulse
Zombies are difficult subject matters for the screen. A staple of a popular subgenre, original narrative inspiration is rare in a field of low yield thrills from contemporary films unable to match the iconic masters, like early George Romero. Of course, every now and then, something innovative and exciting comes along, such as Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later (2002), and it’s surprisingly energetic sequel. But increasingly, like all glorious horror tropes, comedy has taken the place of tension. Sometimes, in the right hands, this can also be inviting. So it’s disappointing to see a director like Joe Dante, the man who balanced these elements deftly in classics likes Piranha (1981), Gremlins (1984), and The ‘Burbs (1989) turn up with his latest, Burying the Ex. With its overtly fresh faced young cast and first time script from Alan Trezza (adapted from his own...

When fans of the V/H/S horror anthology franchise picked up the recently released Blu-ray of the third and latest installment, 2014’s V/H/S: Viral, they may have stumbled on something special after the credits had rolled: an all new segment called “Gorgeous Vortex” from writer/director Todd Lincoln (The Apparition). A beautifully shot, dialogue-free collage of nightmare images not included in the theatrical cut of the movie, “Gorgeous Vortex” is now available exclusively on the Blu-ray and DVD of V/H/S: Viral.
Daily Dead recently spoke with Lincoln about “Gorgeous Vortex” and his participation in the horror anthology.
Could you give a little background as to how you came to be involved with the third V/H/S film?
Todd Lincoln: It’s funny how I got involved. One of the V/H/S producers approached me while I was devouring cookies in the Topanga Canyon mall.

Think you've seen "V/H/S: Viral"? Not all of it, as it turns out. Though the theatrical and VOD release of the third chapter in Magnet's horror anthology series featured segments by directors Nacho Vigalondo, Marcel Sarmiento, Gregg Bishop, Justin Benson and Aaron Scott Moorhead, fans who buy the DVD or Blu-ray will be treated to a surprise sixth segment directed by Todd Lincoln ("The Apparition"). Titled "Gorgeous Vortex," the visually-dazzling short was inspired by "avante-garde video artists, fashion photography, old Italian Horror movies, George Lucas’s early experimental films, and the writings of J.G. Ballard and Jean Baudrillard" -- quite a mashup of influences! Lincoln spoke with HitFix recently about the film, which journeys into a cryptic, sensual world of murder, the occult and, yes, fashion models. Curious? Here's a teaser: In addition to an in-depth discussion of the short, Lincoln also provided more insight into his 2012 feature film "The Apparition,...

You may know him as Draco Malfoy, but Tom Felton has been keeping plenty busy since his "Harry Potter" days.
Since wrapping up the final installment of the hit franchise in 2011, the actor has appeared in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (2011), "The Apparition" (2012), "Belle" (2013), and more. This winter, Felton finds himself adrift at sea in the dramatic "Against the Sun." The WWII-set tale follows Felton and two fellow Marines stranded in the South Pacific with no food and only a raft to keep them afloat in shark-infested waters.
To celebrate the release of his new movie, we asked Felton for his five favorite movies about characters left stranded and fending for their lives. Check out the list above, and watch the trailer for "Against the Sun" below!

When people watch V/H/S: Viral, there will undoubtably be some who question the short runtime, while there will be others scoffing at the Go-Pro cameras, iPhone videos, and other technologically advanced recorders that have nothing to do with VHS tapes, which is understandable. To provide a little backstory, Todd Lincoln (The Apparition) was supposed to have a segment in this third installment, but either the short was subsequently cut after a few test screenings or he submitted an unfinished product – whoever you choose to listen to – which doesn’t surprise me in the lest after sitting through The Apparition. And to the haters who will never silence their gripes about authenticity and VHS quality, throwing their hands in the air at the first signs of crisp quality and crystal-clear focusing? “A police chase after a deranged ice cream truck has captivated the attention of the greater Los Angeles area. Dozens of fame-obsessed teens flock to the streets with their video cameras and camera phones, hell-bent on capturing the next viral video. But there is something far more sinister occurring in the streets of L.A. than a simple police chase. A resounding effect is created onto all those obsessed with capturing salacious footage for no other purpose than to amuse or titillate. The third entry in the found footage franchise features segments from Nacho Vigalondo, Marcel Sarmiento, Gregg Bishop, Justin Benson, Todd Lincoln, and Aaron Moorhead:
“A police chase after a deranged ice cream truck has captivated the attention of the greater Los Angeles area. Dozens of fame-obsessed teens flock to the streets with their video cameras and camera phones, hell-bent on capturing the next viral video. But there is something far more sinister occurring in the streets of L.A. than a simple police chase. A resounding effect is created onto all those obsessed with capturing salacious footage for no other purpose than to amuse or titillate.
