Great acting, great writing

The atmosphere of this show is very prevalent. You feel as a viewer like you are there on the beach with these characters. I love the slightly eerie feeling, the tension between characters, and the cinematography.

I'm looking forward to the whole series!

Solid Start

This looks very promising. I have a feeling the mix between humor and realism will be on point and this show is lowkey a fat lady pretending is not pregnant about to give birth to a nice dark comedy baby.

Like the movie "Rat Race" but without the race

This is what came to me after watching the first episode of this show, weird and eccentric characters combined with mixed British humor as Murray Bartlett playing Armand character and the other American "stigmatic" characters.

Great cinematography&editing, funny and witty with great actors!

Let's see how this show goes on...

Arrivals

The White Lotus is a luxury hotel resort in Hawaii. The first episode opens with Shane (Jake Lacy) a newlywed who has arrived from the resort. With his wife's coffin in tow.

That reminded me of the opening of Desperate Housewives. The narration is from a recently dead woman.

Going back a week. A cross section of people, mainly rich ones arrive at the hotel resort.

They are met by Australian manager, Armond (Murray Bartlett) who ensures everything runs smoothly at the hotel or else be positive and lie to the guests.

Shane discovers this when he finds out that he has not been given the honeymoon suite. Rachel (Alexandra Daddario) hsi wife is relaxed about it. She is the fish out of water, she is not from this well heeled world but she does have a fabulous body as two giggling teenage girls find out.

Armond's assistant Lani on her first day on the job is pregnant and ends up giving birth.

Meanwhile Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) is the needy one, she desperately requires a massage.

I was not grabbed by the fist episode of this Emmy award winning series. Not quite grotesque or satirical I thought it would be. Despite one guest Mark Mossbacher (Steve Zahn) keeps feeling his testicles.

It is intriguing enough and I would like to know more about the murder mystery.

I did wonder what kind of luxury hotel would not have medical aid inhouse.

Made me laugh
kikilangmore31912 July 2021
I had a few moments where I laughed, not sure why people are poorly rating the whole show based on the first episode! Great cinematography with a unique style, well fitting ORIGINAL music, and a great cast. I have lots of hope.

Warning: Spoilers
Mike White created The White Lotus and ironically it's issues of such privilege that come into play, and anyway I started watching The White Lotus today, after hearing so much about it and Murray Bartlett's Emmy award winning role. In my humble opinion, I think perhaps his role as the manager should have had an American accent for more authenticity, as I'm not sure how many hotel managers in Hawaii have New Zealand accents or what.

Arrivals isn't fast paced but that's okay. If you're into fast or furious, human centipedes, hostels or saw, then please steer clear of The White Lotus. Otherwise enjoy the experience.

Lotus, wait!, I'm coming too

A superb episode with bright cinematography, marvelous acting and an eerie score well worth the local traditions. I'm sure that the series is superb and is directed with an iron hand by Mr. White! The blend of comedy, drama and sarcasm is just delicious.

It is far from boring and a new TV with bright realistic colors and adaptive brightness might fix your mood and send you right into the sunny show with the guests.

So nice. Not tumultuous and that's good.
johnsokw28 August 2021
I know nothing of Michael White but I'd guess he's British. The filming and scenes have that high quality that one just doesn't get from Americans except on HBO or premium channels. Each episode also isn't filled with stupid, improbable thrills and spills. Chases. I love that there's no trendy awful pop soundtrack. You know the music people blare while washing their car. Some say it's boring because it doesn't work like Marvel Cinematic Universe. Me I think Marvel hero movies are boring.

Nice pilot
jpismyname16 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The pilot episode is definitely an intriguing one. In this first ep, we are introduced to the White Lotus' resort guests. These guests include newlywed couple Shane and Rachel Patton, the rich Mossbacher family, and heiress Tanya McQuoid. We also have the resort staff, which includes manager Armond, masseuse Belinda, and new staff Lani.

It's a mix of comedy and...I dunno...a bit of mystery suspense??? There's definitely a little bit of suspense going on, from the moment the revelation in the airport is shown so you'll already wonder what's going to happen next that will lead to that character's demise. The characters are all interesting and weird and most of them have despicable personalities, which makes things more spicy.

Quick but bored
Pritchie457 February 2022
I know this is the first episode of a series I know nothing about but at the moment I am bored. The characters are unlikeable but that isn't the only problem. This series at the moment doesn't have a plot I am engaging with. The manager is my favourite character. You have the cringy youth, creepy and lonely stalker lady. Newly wed couple and the classic upper class parents. The series focuses on the exploits of guests but none of them are relatble or likeable or at the very least interesting.

High expectations
michelleoverton17 July 2021
Maybe my expectations were too high; I like some of the actors from this show but in the show, esp episode 1, I didn't like it at all. Not sure if I'll watch again. Not funny at all!!!!

Weak Characterisation and just not funny
Beamerman26 September 2021
The early plot reveal in the first few minutes about the death of a leading character was the only thing that might keep me interested in this series but not enough given all the weaknesses. I'm done with it. I couldn't engage with any of the characters. Too many felt like 1 dimensional caricatures. I was expecting some biting satire from what i'd heard about the show but this was barely evident in episode 1.
