- TriviaThe Gundark, a creature first mentioned by Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980), makes its first on screen appearance. It was given big ears, based on Han's comment that Luke looked strong enough again "to pull the ears off a Gundark".
- GoofsCaptain Rex's kama is missing at the beginning of the scene involving the briefing about Florrum.
- Quotes
Anakin Skywalker: How come I'm the one getting caught all the time? It doesn't look good.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: When you're a Jedi Master, you can make the plan.
Anakin Skywalker: That's just it. How can I become a Jedi Master if I'm always getting caught?
Obi-Wan Kenobi: At least you're a master... at getting caught.

Space Pirates Part 1
This two part story introduces a popular and fun character, the pirate Hondo Ohnaka. He is a good character and there is great banter and fun in both episodes.
I feel like this two episode long adventure is an excuse to put Anakin, Obi Wan and Dooku into a situation where they all end up captured and chained together so that they have to work together. That is fine as an idea for a fun interlude in the Clone War adventures and I think they went for a similar scenario to Return of the Jedi where Jabba the Hut has Luke, Han and Chewie at his mercy but there are problems with how it is presented here.
My first problem is that I find it hard to accept the idea that a band of pirates can capture Dooku so easily. He has his lightsaber pickpocketed from him which in itself seems unlikely but then why would he not use his immense force powers to deal with the pirates and retrieve his lightsaber? It is an unconvincing scenario which knocks the episode down a little.
The second problem detracts a bit from this episode and particularly is a plothole for the start of the second episode: After Obi Wan and Anakin hand themselves over we get a scene in this episode where they switch their drugged drinks using the force. They replace the drinks they were given with the drinks from the hands of two pirates. This is not done very well. Wouldn't the pirates notice the drinks slipping in and out of their hands? This goes on to be followed by them being asleep in a jail cell with Dooku at the start of the next episode claiming to have been drugged. If they switched their drinks why are they still drugged? It was strange. I don't judge this episode for the plothole as that was an editing issue of the following episode but I do think the drink switch was badly done and given how the next episode begins this episode should actually finish with them drinking the drugged drinks and falling unconscious.
Apart from the unconvincing aspects the 2 issues I mentioned this episode is quite fun and entertaining with good banter between characters. The two poorly thought out scenes detract from my rating.
My rating: 6.5/10.
