Michael Jackson wasn’t just a global icon, he also spoke up for what’s real. In 2002, he courageously exposed the unsettling reality that his friend Mariah Carey faced.
Known as the ‘Songbird Supreme’ by Guinness World Records, Carey is considered one of the best singers globally. Throughout her career, she and Jackson were close friends.

Carey, with her heavenly voice, found herself in a tangled relationship with Tommy Mottola, which was more about control than love. Amidst his own tumultuous relationship with the industry, Mj shed light on the darker aspects of the songstress’ life with Mottola.

The folks at Platinum Dunes, the production company headed up by Michael Bay and Bradley Fuller, clearly love working with director Jonathan Liebesman. After working with Liebesman on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, they had him attached to direct their reboot of Friday the 13th for a while – and even though Liebesman wasn’t at the helm of that one by the time it went into production, they did work with him again, on their 2014 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, a decade later, Platinum Dunes and Jonathan Liebesman are re-teaming for a werewolf movie called Wolf Night.
Deadline wasn’t able to dig up much information on Wolf Night, but they did learn that the project is being described as “District 9 by way of The Purge“. Will Honley, whose writing credits include Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, wrote the screenplay with April Maguire.

Between Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” sequel “Glass Onion,” the terrible quarantine “Purge” ripoff “Songbird,” and Doug Liman’s inert Covid heist movie “Locked Down”, movies have tried — and usually failed — in depicting the everyday horrors and quirks of the pandemic. Admittedly, turning the absence of interaction and drama into good cinema is an unenviable challenge. Olivier Assayas is the latest to try and, unfortunately, the latest to largely fail.

Last week on “The Voice,” Team Niall Horan took the stage during the playoffs as all six contestants performed for a shot at making it into the live shows. Do external influences like environment and situations factor more in shaping a person’s entire worldview? Or is it the inherent willingness to give in to a side—freedom of choice—that plays the decisive role? The prequel feature of the Hunger Games trilogy, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, adapted from the novel of the same name written by Suzanne Collins, asks these age-old questions as it traces back the origins of Coriolanus Snow, the former President of Panem whose reign of tyranny was ended by ‘Mockingjay’ Katniss Everdeen and her comrades.
The key attractions of the main Hunger Games series were how the central class conflict intrigue was showcased through interesting characters, theatrical flair, unique dystopian world-building, and the brutal yet vivid open-world battle royale signifying the titular game. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, however, misses out on most of these aspects in its effort to jam-pack...

Christine McVie’s estate and Pat Benatar have both closed deals to sell rights to their music to the acquisition firm HarbourView Equity Partners, the company tells Rolling Stone.
McVie’s estate has sold her stake in Fleetwood Mac’s recorded music, which includes shares in hits like the McVie-sung tracks “Songbird” and “Say You Love Me,” along with other band staples “Go Your Own Way,” “The Chain” and “Dreams.” Benatar — as well as her longtime musical partner and husband Neil Giraldo — sold an unspecified stake in both their recorded music and publishing rights.

Monday marked the dawning of a new era in Voice history — not just the Season 24 premiere but the first episode ever without Goat Blake Shelton on deck. In his red swivel chair next to returning coaches Niall Horan, John Legend and Gwen Stefani was Reba McEntire, who seemed to fit in so well, you could’ve convinced me that she’d been on the panel for years. And I know I’ll get flak for giving out so many A’s and B’s, but the first of the Blind Auditions were pretty terrific. Read on and see if you...

The desire to escape everyday pressures since the pandemic has seen viewers like myself going back to old favorites such as Gilmore Girls or finding something newer like Virgin River, currently streaming its fifth season on Netflix.
With each season reaching Netflix’s top ten, Virgin River has capitalized on fan’s love of Robyn Carr’s 21-book-long series of the same name and our increasing impulse to find new shows that don’t require too much of our attention. Virgin River is precisely that as it lacks terror-inducing Jaws music and instead provides Hallmark-esque vibes with the added dash of danger from the illegal drug trade surrounding the town.

They rolled into Los Angeles for three shows at The Forum — the one that would go on to become Rumours Live was held on August 29th, 1977, performed to a crowd of nearly 20,000 fans. The set was recorded by engineer Ken Caillat using a mobile recording truck owned by the Recording Plant, the studio where the band recorded most of Rumours itself.

If I had asked you to name a film from the early 1990s that featured groundbreaking visuals effects that changed the landscape of cinema, you probably answer with Jurassic Park. But what if I told you that instead of dinosaurs, an earlier pioneer in visual effects was a satirical black comedy involving Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and a magic potion? Yep, that’s right. That film does indeed exist and is none other than Death Becomes Her. Directed by the legendary Robert Zemeckis and co-written by David Koepp and Martin Donovan. The idea came to Koepp back when he was working on another film, which featured a story about a man’s attempts to kills his wife, who turns out to be a witch and cannot die. And of course, the witch has an axe to grind now that she knows her husband tried to off her. That idea later developed into Death Becomes Her.

My Morning Jacket made their latest appearance at Bonnaroo another memorable one when they debuted a cover of Kate Bush’s resurgent hit “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)” during their late night performance on Saturday.
Providing their own spin on the song with galloping guitars and Jim James’ passionate vocals standing in contrast to Bush’s more delicate delivery, Mmj added a cover to their repertoire well worth playing again. Watch the performance below.
Mmj also debuted their take on Traffic’s “Feelin’ Alright?” and paid tribute to late Fleetwood Mac keyboardist/vocalist Christine McVie when James weaved in lyrics from “Songbird” into “Phone Went West” from their 2001 sophomore album, At Dawn. Check out the setlist for their nearly three-hour performance below.

When Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac at the end of 1974, the group set off on a path that made them one of the most commercially successful bands in the world. Nicks and Buckingham’s influence on the group cannot be understated. Their songwriting, vocals, and overall musical talent fit in with the band but also transformed it. It’s hard to imagine the band without them.

The first season of "True Detective," which aired on HBO in 2014, takes place in multiple time frames. Louisiana detectives Rustin Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) spent a harrowing time in 1995 investigating the murder of a young woman named Dora Lange. Years later, in 2012, they had to revisit the case and other unsolved cases besides.
The first season was overwhelmingly well-received, earning six Primetime Emmy nominations, and winning one for director Cary Fukunaga. Many essays were written about the series, with some looking at the rundown, Southern aesthetic, and others examining the show's unfettered look at a toxically masculine worldview, where the women on "True Detective" merely exist as tools to be used or rejected by the men. The series seems to take place in a parallel 1950s hard-boiled universe not too far away from the era's ultra-salacious EC Comics.

Christine McVie’s cause of death has been revealed as a stroke, with cancer as a secondary factor, People reports.
Upon her death in November 2022, the Fleetwood Mac artist’s family said she passed away “following a short illness.” But McVie’s death certificate, first obtained by The Blast, notes that she suffered an ischemic stroke, which occurs when a blood clot blocks or narrows an artery leading to the brain, preventing brain tissue from receiving oxygen and nutrients. She had also been diagnosed with “metastatic malignancy of unknown primary origin,” meaning cancer cells had spread throughout her body from an unknown place.
McVie’s death certificate also notes that the artist was suffering from “atrial fibrillation,” an irregular and often very rapid heart beat that can lead to blood clots in the heart. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of stroke in patients.

The music of Fleetwood Mac hasn’t only had a profound impact on the band members and their fans. Like all art, it also reflects the inner lives of those who created it. And in the case of one song written by the late Christine McVie, she sought to pay tribute to her personal relationship with another musician who died in the early 1980s due to a tragic accident.
Christine McVie wasn’t part of Fleetwood Mac’s original line-up
Although not part of the original Fleetwood Mac line-up, McVie soon became an integral part of the band. She initially sat in as a session musician for the band’s second album, 1968’s Mr. Wonderful. But after marrying the band’s bass guitarist John McVie that same year, she left her previous band, Chicken Shack, in 1969 and became a full member of Fleetwood Mac in 1970.
Christine McVie stayed with the band until the mid-to-late 1990s.

At this point, Fleetwood Mac seems unstoppable. The band has weathered countless storms over the years but remains active more than 50 years after its formation. Even so, the 2022 death of Christine McVie is a particularly hard blow to the band and its legions of fans. McVie, of course, was instrumental in many of Fleetwood Mac’s hits, including its most popular song ever.
How Christine McVie became a member of Fleetwood Mac
Way back in 1967, drummer Mick Fleetwood and guitarists/vocalists Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer founded Fleetwood Mac. And the band released its first self-titled album the very next year. Soon before its release, bass guitarist John McVie joined the band, making him an instrumental part of the band’s first album. But it didn’t take long for the band to grow bigger.

Fleetwood Mac has released more than 15 albums over the years. But few have left the indelible mark that the band’s 1977 album, Rumours, has. But while even casual fans of Fleetwood Mac will know the album’s songs, they might not realize how instrumental the late Christine McVie was in creating the iconic track that would ultimately save the band itself.
Christine McVie joined Fleetwood Mac after its second album
McVie wasn’t part of the original line-up of Fleetwood Mac, preceded by founders Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, and Jeremy Spencer. Those three — drummer and two guitarists/vocalists, respectively — ultimately brought John McVie on board just in time for their 1967 debut album. But the band was far from done adding new members just yet.
Christine Perfect was a keyboardist and vocalist who joined the band as a session musician for the second Fleetwood Mac album, 1968’s Mr. Wonderful. That same year,...

About nine months ago, we heard that Michael Bay and Brad Fuller are reviving their production company Platinum Dunes at Universal – and now Deadline reports that one of the movies we’ll be getting from the revived Platinum Dunes is the supernatural horror film Lure, with Corin Hardy (The Nun) directing. Chris Bernier (Halloween Ends) is currently writing the screenplay.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, we do know that Lure is based on the haunting of the real-life King’s Tavern, considered to be the most haunted building in all of Mississippi, with one of its tenants being the murdered mistress of one of the tavern’s original owners.
I hadn’t heard of King’s Tavern before this announcement, but Wikipedia informs that the place is one of the oldest buildings in Natchez, Mississippi, as it was first build in 1769. It’s also considered to be...

Stevie Nicks performed “Landslide” in tribute to her late Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie at the launch of her “Two Icons, One Night” co-headlining tour with Billy Joel on Friday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The touching rendition, which closed Nicks’ first live set since McVie passed away in late November 2022, featured a photo scroll of the pair together throughout the years while soundtracked by the singer’s bracingly intimate delivery.
As the song began to wind down, the house lights fell and Nicks bowed over the mic stand. She raised her head as the lights came back on, revealing tears as she thanked the audience and shared, “There’s really not much to say. We just pretend that she’s still here, that’s how I’m trying to deal with it.” Watch fan-captured footage of Stevie Nicks’ “Landslide” performance dedicated to Christine McVie below.

This article contains light spoilers for the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six.
Daisy Jones & The Six has become one of the most anticipated series of the year, and as it finally drops on Prime Video, the team have been kind enough to drop the entire Aurora album at the same time.
Produced by Blake Mills – who’s previously collaborated with Lana Del Ray, Dixie Chicks and John Legend – songwriters including Phoebe Bridgers, Marcus Mumford, Jackson Browne and Marcus Cunningham were brought on board to tune up the lyrics from Taylor Jenkins Reid’s book, and bring them to life in 70s technicolour.
And yes, the actors really are singing and performing of the album (you can thank the pandemic for allowing them time to tune up and become the Daisy Jones & The Six that now appears on your screen).

In 1992, four years before the death of a then-unknown singer named Eva Cassidy, and eight before she would achieve posthumous, worldwide fame, she had a dream goal for her career. “Eva had a fantasy of one day having a full orchestra back her up,” says Chris Biondo, the singer’s original arranger and bandmate. “To her, that was the greatest place you could be musically.”
In fact, she and Chris had a specific role model for her fantasy project: Natalie Cole’s album Unforgettable, a collection of standards that appeared the previous year which, thanks to the marvels of studio sorcery, created a duet between Natalie and her late father, Nat King Cole, on the title song. For Cassidy, such a project would have been impossible to finance at the time, nearly a decade before she would have two UK number one albums, a number one single with “What a Wonderful World...

Harry Styles’ Harry’s House found a home at the 2023 Grammys, winning album of the year on the same night Beyoncé became the most decorated artist in Grammy history.
“Shit,” Styles said Sunday at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. “I’ve been so, so inspired by every artist in this category with me … I listen to everyone in this category when I’m alone.”
Styles — who also won best pop vocal album — went on to say “there is no such thing as best in music” and that artists don’t make music thinking about “what is going to get us one of these [awards].”
“This is really, really kind. I’m so, so grateful. This doesn’t happen to people like me very often,” he continued.

The 2023 Grammy Awards honored the lives and careers lost in the music industry this past year in a touching In Memoriam segment, with performances by Kacey Musgraves, Sheryl Crow, Mick Fleetwood, Bonnie Raitt and Quavo.
Host Trevor Noah introduced the tribute, acknowledging the importance of how music can unite people through their differences, while also acknowledging the influence of Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons in hip-hop over the years. “It’s Black kids and white kids rejecting segregation in the 1950s, and instead, blending R&b, country and even gospel into rock and roll,” Noah said. “In the 1980s, a young Black rapper from Queens and a Jewish white kid in his NYU dorm came together to make some of the greatest hip-hop of all time.
