Adult Swim has picked up a third season of the animated comedy Yolo.
The series from Michael Cusack ranked No. 2 in its time slot across cable in key demos in its second season. The third installment, which will be dubbed Yolo: Rainbow Trinity, will continue to follow a pair of Australian best friends through absurd and fantastical adventures.
The announcement about the pickup was made today at New York Comic-Con.
Adult Swim also announced that it has ordered new stop-motion series called Women Wearing Shoulder Pads, which follows a wealthy Spaniard living in Ecuador as she journeys through the complicated world of love, family, commercials, and cuyes, a.k.a. South American guinea pigs.
The new series will mark Adult Swim’s first-ever Spanish-language series, not to mention the return of the stop-motion animation format.

20th Television Animation and Hulu Originals have joined Adult Swim in cutting ties with “Rick and Morty” and “Solar Opposites” co-creator and “Koala Man” executive producer Justin Roiland.
The move comes nearly two weeks after Roiland was charged with felony domestic violence related to an incident that first surfaced in a January 2020 criminal complaint.
“We have ended our association with Justin Roiland,” a spokesperson for Hulu Originals and 20th TV Animation told TheWrap in a statement.
“Solar Opposites” and “Koala Man” will continue without Roiland’s involvement.

“Tuca & Bertie” has been renewed for Season 3 at Adult Swim.
The show debuted its second season on Adult Swim on June 13. The first season had aired on Netflix, but the streamer canceled the show in 2019. The final two episodes of Season 2 will air on Aug. 8 and Aug. 15 respectively. Adult Swim has also secured the international rights for Seasons 2 and and 3, now making the show available globally via the brand.
Tuca (Tiffany Haddish) and Bertie (Ali Wong) are best friends, and they’re both full of ghosts. Bertie is busy excavating her inner ghouls with the help of a therapist, while Tuca prefers to stuff hers behind the toilet. She’ll deal with them later, right now she’s just too busy trying not to be single anymore. Meanwhile, Speckle (Steven Yeun) is building a new house but soon finds he’s driven to the brink of insanity.
Along with Haddish,...

In their first public appearance since WarnerMedia merged the two development divisions this past April, execs from HBO Max and Adult Swim previewed their upcoming slates, releasing new footage from adult-skewing offerings “10-Year-Old-Tom” and “Smiling Friends,” while talking up several more.
Created by Michael Cusack (“Yolo: Crystal Fantasy”) and Zack Hadel (of the popular YouTube channel “psychicpebbles”), “Smiling Friends” picks up where the viral 2020 short left off, following the lives of two hapless cheer merchants sent to make their clients smile. Mixing 2D, primitive character designs with candy colors and the winking edge of an online forum, the series is due out later this year.
“[Though they’re both well known independently,] combined, Hadel and Cusack are doing something really special,” said Walter Newman, senior VP comedy development at Adult Swim. “From the character designs to the voice work, it represents a lot of what we’re trying to accomplish here.”

Adult Swim announced two all-new original series on Wednesday morning.
Royal Crackers is Jason Ruiz’s first project with the network. It will introduce fans to the Hornsby family in a new half-hour comedy series. Ruiz previously — along with David A Goodman — created Murder Police for Fox.
Royal Crackers is an animated series that follows two brothers: Stebe, a family man with a wife and child; and Theo Jr., a single, bass guitar player trying to relive his glory days. Together they reside in their comatose father’s house waiting for him to die (which he never does) so they can inherit his cracker company empire. Ruiz serves as executive producer alongside with Seth Cohen. The series is produced by Titmouse and will premiere on Adult Swim in 2022.
The second series is Smiling Friends, an animated take on self-help created by Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel. The pilot for Smiling...

It’s happening. It’s finally happening. What was once a particularly pervasive and aggressive Internet meme is now a reality. HBO Max’s list of new releases for March 2021 is highlighted by none other than the mythical Snyder cut.
The entity now known as Zach Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on March 18. While it was originally planned to be a four-part miniseries, this recut version of 2017’s ill-fated Justice League will in fact be a four-hour movie. But perhaps even four hours won’t be enough for fans who have been waiting years for just such an event.
