The movie was made during the Summer Internship Program 2019 of Nu Boyana Film Studios and was developed during a Filmmaking Class in the studio run by FilmForge - the studio's educational department.
The plot is set in the future - the year 2031 - twelve years after the movie was made. This year not only corresponds to the name of the android D.A.D.231 but it also marks the centennial anniversary of a science fiction short story called "The Man Who Evolved" by Edmond Hamilton. Writer Isaac Asimov, known as the father of science fiction stories about robots and one of the greatest science fiction writers of all time, calls this story the first one which impressed him so much, it stayed in his mind permanently.
Robbie, the virtual assistant in the house of Adam West, is named after Isaac Asimov's character from the science fiction short story "Robbie" written in 1939. In the story, in 1982, a mute RB series robot, nicknamed Robbie, is owned by the Weston family as a nursemaid for their daughter whom they treat as a little princess. The daughter gets attached to Robbie too much. The parents discard the robot and send him to work in a factory in New York. The child gets very sad and depressed. She refuses to take even a puppy as a substitute. The parents and the kid go to New York and find the robot. In an accident in the factory, Robbie saves the girl's life, so the Weston family has no choice but to take Robbie back. Adam West and Emma West are named after the Weston family. The book which D.A.D.231 gives to Emma was supposed to be "Robbie" but the director decided to replace it with stories about princes.
The android in the film is called D.A.D.231. The name does not only correspond to his role being a father figure but it comes from "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep", the novel by Philip K. Dick on which the movie "Blade Runner" is based. In the movie, androids live together with people and sometimes they have a more human side than the people. D.A.D stands for "Do Androids Dream" and 231 comes from the capital letters OES (Of Electric Sheep) turned into binary code and summed up.
