Something in the Water opens with an attack in a London subway station. Not by a shark on its way to visit relatives at the aquarium, but by a group of homophobes who take objection to Meg and Kayla daring to hold hands in public. It leaves Meg with mental and physical scars, as well as causing the pair to break up.
A year later, Lizzie and Dominic are getting married at a Caribbean resort, reuniting several old friends including Dominic’s sister Cam, Ruth and, much to each other’s dismay, Kayla and Meg. Now that everyone is here, they just need to do something stupid so they can become shark bait. Cam takes care of that by suggesting they all pile into a small motorboat...

The BBC has acquired crime drama series Rebus, a new adaptation of the best-selling Inspector Rebus novels by Scottish author Ian Rankin, starring Richard Rankin (Outlander, The Replacement) in the lead role.
Adapted for the small screen by Gregory Burke (´71, Six Four) and produced by Eleventh Hour Films for Nordic streamer Viaplay, the six-part series will air on the U.K. public broadcaster’s flagship network BBC One, BBC Scotland and streamer BBC iPlayer this spring.
Rebus has been seen on the screen and stage before. An ITV series ran for four seasons from 2000 until 2007. The fictional inspector has also been featured in radio and theater adaptations.
The show features a younger, and recently divorced and demoted, protagonist. Set in Edinburgh, it “reimagines John Rebus as a younger Detective Sergeant drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality,...

Vicky Cristina Barcelona star Rebecca Hall was one of the buzziest names to feature on the BBC’s recent 12-strong drama slate and the BAFTA winner can now be seen in first look images playing a teacher in Element Pictures’ The Listeners.
Adapted by the novel’s author Jordan Tannahill, Hall’s character Claire is tormented by a low humming sound that no one else around her can hear. This seemingly innocuous noise gradually upsets the balance of her life, increasing tension between herself and her husband, Paul, and daughter, Ashley. But despite multiple doctors, no obvious source or medical cause can be found.
Scroll down for more pics, including another of Hall and one of Ollie West (Hamnet), who plays student Kyle and can also hear the sound.
Also starring in the series, which was filmed in Greater Manchester, are Prasanna Puwanarajah, Amr Waked (Ramy), Gayle Rankin, Mia Tharia (Phoenix Rise), Franc Ashman, Samuel Edward Cook, Karen Henthorn, Lucy Sheen (Ping Pong) and Ian Mercer.
Deadline revealed the show’s development last March and Poor Things producer Element is making it with Janicza Bravo – whose past credits include Zola, Mrs America and Them – directing. Hall is also starring in James L. Brooks’ next movie Ella McCay and Tessa Thompson’s similarly-named helpline drama The Listener. Fremantle is distributing The Listeners.
Rebecca Dundon, SVP Scripted Content, International at Fremantle said: “The Listeners is a thriller like no other that will surprise, provoke and challenge the status quo.”

Tannahill and Bravo are EP-ing alongside Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Chelsea Morgan Hoffmann and Rachel Dargavel for Element Pictures, Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC, and Alice Birch. The series is produced by BAFTA-nominated Ed King. Fremantle is handling global sales.

The bubble, that surge of cash that over the past decades helped bankroll an unprecedented boom in TV drama production, appears to have burst.
TV producers, gathered in Cannes this week for the MIPTV international television market, are pondering a future in which the cost of TV drama continues to spike while the primary sources of financing, namely broadcasters and online streamers, are slashing their commissioning budgets.
“The cost of an hour of television drama in the U.K. has gone from £1.5 million ($1.86 million) to £2.5 million ($3.1 million) per hour, and you can’t finance that out of the U.K. market,” said Christian Baute of Headline Pictures, producers of Amazon Prime’s Man in the High Castle and Ten Percent. “Traditionally, over the last seven years, we went to America [for financing], but that money is ebbing [because] the American market is a mess.”

Icelandic writer-director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson (“Under the Tree”) makes a smooth transition to English-language directing with the high-concept comedy “Northern Comfort,” co-written with longtime collaborators Halldór Laxness Halldórsson and Tobias Munthe. It centers on a disparate group of people who share a disabling fear of air travel, which they are trying to overcome through a high-end fearless flyers course. As a final challenge, the class is scheduled for a short, roundtrip “exposure” flight during which they should face and conquer their phobias. But this practical plan soon runs into some literal and figurative turbulence. Combining human drama and absurdist comedy, “Northern Comfort” should fly into other festivals before making a comfortable landing at a boutique art-house distributor or streamer.
Inwardly and outwardly quaking as they leave Gatwick for a fateful trip to Iceland are successful property developer Sarah; Edward (Timothy Spall), a special forces veteran turned best-selling crime writer; and a social media influencer couple,...

A video of Rebecca Humphries discussing her ex Seann Walsh’s “toxic” behaviour has resurfaced.
In September, Humphries appeared on Jada Pinkett Smith’s Red Table Talk to discuss the scandal that saw Walsh cheat on her with his Strictly Come Dancing partner Kaya Jones.
Humphries discovered Walsh, who is currently a contestant on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!, was being unloyal after the tabloids took photos of him kissing Jones.
The actor, who appears in Amazon series Ten Percent, told Pinkett Smith that she had felt something was wrong before the photos were leaked, and raised her concerns with Walsh. She says that, in response, he called her a “psychopath”.
“He comes through the door and I go, ‘I feel as though there’s something happening here’,” she said, adding: “I remember it so clearly: he stands in the doorway and I’m on the bed crying,...

Netflix has dropped its first trailer for season five of its flagship drama The Crown.
The newest season, which will have its global premiere on 9 November, is expected to be the series’ second to last. It is set in the 1990s, a decade that introduced manifold sources of instability to Buckingham Palace, many of which can be glimpsed in the trailer.
“The royal family is in genuine crisis,” declares Martin Bashir – played by Ten Percent star Prasanna Puwanarajah – in the wide-ranging trailer, which depicts the marriage of Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and King Charles III (Dominic West) in a state of disintegration.
Later, the trailer shows Diana taking a chair for her now infamously discredited Panorama interview and driving recklessly through an intersection. “People will never understand how it’s really been for me, I never stood a chance,” Diana reflects amid the chaos.

The series based on the French hit Call My Agent!, follows the team behind London’s small talent agency Nightingale Hart, and agent Rebecca (Lydia Leonard) thinks she has a foolproof way to win over Phoebe. (Credit: Sundance Now) Just as Phoebe goes to pass her, Rebecca begins running alongside her, but just as she’s about to say something, she runs head-first into a tree. There is simply too much stuff to watch these days! So tell us what you’re watching, and why it’s worth our time (or not).
What episodic stuff are you bingeing, and why should we watch it?
Me, I am loving French dramedy Call My Agent!, set in a Paris talent agency. It’s a brilliant skewering of celebrity culture — lots of famous actors play heightened versions of themselves — and movie fandom. An English-language adaptation, called Ten Percent — it’s just beautiful people in beautiful clothes falling in love — and Japanese reality show Old Enough! (on Netflix US/UK), in which very small children are sent on their first errands, like to buy groceries or collect dry-cleaning; it’s incredibly adorable. I’ve just finished Marvel’s Moon Knight (Disney+ globally); Oscar Isaac in a dual role is terrific.
Next up for me, which I expect to at least...

Ten Percent, a dry, witty, and very British remake of the French comedy Call My Agent, follows a group of London talent agents at an elite company representing A-listers (stars like Helena Bonham Carter and Dominic West play versions of themselves). But the agents aren’t always, shall we say, truthful. That frequently means trouble for Jonathan, the jaded son of savvy co-founder Richard Nightingale (Jim Broadbent). “Jonathan’s techniques, ‘information management,’ bite him on the bum a few times, that’s for sure,” Davenport says with a laugh. The elder Nightingale’s original partner in crime is smart Stella Hart. Steed says of the business, “We started off with very high ideals. A lot of that’s been lopped off. At the center of it, we’re highly principled – as much as we can be in this ridiculous business.” Quirky personality traits add to the fun of watching these...
