Margaret Qualley is no longer going to star in Hulu’s limited series about Amanda Knox, Variety has confirmed.
The untitled series was announced in March with Qualley set to star and executive produce. She has reportedly exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. The role will now be recast.
This is not the first time Hulu has lost its lead actress in a limited series based on a real person. Kate McKinnon was once attached to play Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in what would become “The Dropout,” the role that was eventually played by Amanda Seyfried. Seyfried would go on to win an Emmy for her work on the show.
Hulu has ordered eight one-hour episodes of the show. The official description states that it is “based on the true story of how Knox was wrongfully convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher and her 16-year odyssey to set herself free.

French director Thomas Bidegain is setting the record straight about Jake Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby’s exit from his project “Suddenly.”
An interview with Bidegain that ran last week in the French magazine Technikart got international attention, with the headline “Four Days to Bury a Movie.” The interview suggested that Gyllenhaal and Kirby had left the film in the last stretch of pre-production in Iceland, which resulted in a loss of $26 million.
According to the story, Gyllenhaal dove into the freezing ocean, demanded multiple rewrites and rehearsed scenes in a mocking “Pepe Le Pew-like accent.” Though Bidegain wouldn’t address those specific claims, he tells Variety that he parted ways with Gyllenhaal and Kirby over a creative clash, rather than unprofessional behavior on Gyllenhaal’s part. He also claims that, contrary to what is suggested in the French article, the company which financed “Suddenly,” Studiocanal, didn’t lose $26 million because...

Film Movement Scoops Up North American Rights for Bittersweet Comedy ‘A Nice Jewish Boy’ (Exclusive)
Film Movement will give “A Nice Jewish Boy” a home – several, in fact, as the New York-based distributor has picked up North American rights to Noé Debré’s bittersweet comedy with plans for both festival and theatrical plays later this year.
Charades’ Hélène Espeisse brokered the deal with Film Movement president Michael Rosenberg.
Written and directed by “Dheepan” and “Stillwater” screenwriter Noé Debré, “A Nice Jewish Boy” follows Bellisha – an unflappable 27-year-old naïf who shares a subsidized apartment with his ailing mother, Giselle. The pair also happen to be their working-class community’s last remaining Jews – a source of heartache, comedy, and wider questions of belonging.
The freewheeling film drew inspiration from the works of Francois Truffaut and Charlie Chaplin, Debré told Variety, engaging in equal parts with poignant and absurdist subject matters while following a daydreaming lead who can’t be knocked down.
“[I wanted to explore] tough themes with a kind of lightness and irreverence,...

Noé Debré, the co-writer of “Dheepan” and “Stillwater” and creator of the European Parliament sendup series “Parlement,” marks his feature directorial debut with the bittersweet comedy “A Nice Jewish Boy.”
Produced by Moonshaker, sold by Charades and making its world market premiere at this year’s Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris, the freewheeling film follows a 27-year-old man-child Bellisha (Michael Zindel) and his ailing mother, Giselle (Agnès Jaoui), who together make up the last remaining Jews living in a working class neighborhood that all of their friends and family have long since fled.
At first that’s just as well for the easy-going Bellisha, but health concerns, prejudice and most of all an acute sense of alienation soon begin to creep in. Below, Variety catches up with Debré at this year’s Rendez-Vous.
How did this feature idea come about?
I saw a short film called “Masel Tov Cocktail,” about a Russian-Jewish teenager living in Germany.

The Seeds of ‘Almost Famous’ Sprouted from Cameron Crowe’s Youth The heart of ‘Almost Famous’ lies in the semi-autobiographical roots of its creator, Cameron Crowe. His early days as a teenage rock journalist for Rolling Stone are deftly woven into the fabric of the film’s narrative. The protagonist, William Miller, mirrors Crowe’s own initiation into the world of music journalism. William embarks on this adventure a bit naive and unaware of the experiences he will have with Stillwater, a line that echoes Crowe’s own youthful foray into the buzzing hive of rock ‘n’ roll. This parallel is further underscored by...

Justin Long has had an excellent variety of roles throughout his career.
He's been in horrors, comedies, and everything in between.
The actor plays Nathan Bratt on the Disney+/Hulu reboot of Goosebumps.
In the first trailer, Nathan finds himself possessed by a spirit that may or may not be tied to the overarching mystery of the new series.
We love a good mystery!

The brand new “Goosebumps” television series from Disney+ and Hulu will premiere on October 13, and now the show’s full official trailer has arrived this afternoon.
The two-minute trailer features callbacks to several classic Goosebumps tales, including “Welcome to Dead House,” “Say Cheese and Die!” and “The Cuckoo Clock of Doom,” and it also features an appearance from the iconic Slappy doll. Like the two live action movies we got in recent years, however, it looks like the series will not be directly adapting any of the books.
Watch the “Goosebumps” official trailer below!
Disney previews in the official press details, “The new series draws on elements from five of the most popular middle grade books including Say Cheese and Die!, The Haunted Mask, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, Go Eat Worms! and Night of the Living Dummy.”

Sometimes, the people who make the biggest difference aren’t the ones who grab the spotlight. In “Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie,” we get to see firsthand how our lovable introvert, Marcie, makes a monumental difference from behind the scenes for both her friends and her community. To train for the school golf championship, Marcie assists Peppermint Patty as her caddie, offering thoughtful and deliberate advice to help her win. Meanwhile, after coming up with brilliant solutions to her classmates’ problems – from hallway traffic jams to lunchtime pizza shortages – Marcie is unexpectedly elected as class president … a role she never wanted.
Suddenly thrust into the spotlight, Marcie struggles to cope with the expectations of her new job and retreats as far from the public eye as possible. As the golf championship begins, Marcie is still in hiding and Peppermint Patty is forced to tee off with Charlie Brown filling in as her caddie.

Three is a crowd, and Matt Damon prefers it that way. At the July 11 "Oppenheimer" world premiere in Paris, the 52-year-old actor arrived on the red carpet with three of his four daughters. He smiled alongside 12-year-old Stella, 14-year-old Gia, and 24-year-old Alexia. His 17-year-old daughter, Isabella, who Damon also shares with wife Luciana Damon, was the only child not in attendance at the premiere.
Since Damon's daughters tend to stay out of the spotlight, this family outing marks a somewhat rare joint red carpet appearance. Back in March, however, some of the girls did accompany Damon to the "Air" premiere. But as Damon told Seth Meyers on "Late Night" back in April, they still find plenty of ways to keep him humble. "My 16-year-old likes to give me a hard time. She is very clear about not wanting to see anything that I'm in if she thinks it might be good,...

Box office: ‘Super Mario Bros’ crosses $300 million, wins 2nd weekend as everything else disappoints
It was a disappointing weekend at the box office for all but one mega-blockbuster hit, Universal and Nintendo’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which didn’t crash and burn after its record-setting $200 million opening week as expected. Instead, it becomes the first movie of 2023 to make more than $300 million, and it crossed that milestone in less than two weeks.
The video game adaptation featuring the voices of Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Seth Rogen, and more, made $22.6 million in its second Friday, down 62% from Good Friday, but as with most family films, business picked up on Saturday for Universal to report a second weekend of $87 million (estimated). That is the highest second weekend for any animated film, including those from Illumination Entertainment, surpassing the $85 million second weekend of Disney’s “Frozen 2.” It has now grossed $347.8 million domestically.

A shakeup has hit management-production company Anonymous Content’s top ranks, with CEO Dawn Olmstead and COO Heather McCauley resigning.
“I can confirm that, effective immediately, I am resigning as CEO of Anonymous Content,” Olmstead said in a statement. “I am proud of all we accomplished during my two years at the company. I am especially grateful to my extraordinary team who worked alongside me to take Anonymous to exciting new levels. I wish them all the best.”
Olmstead had been at her post since late 2020, when she departed as Universal Cable Productions president. McCauley joined as COO in January after a decade at Netflix, most recently serving as VP, business and legal affairs. No reasons were given for the departures.
Said the board of Anonymous in a statement: “Thanks to Dawn’s contributions, the company is in a strong position, and we are confident that our team, values and talent will continue to thrive.

There’s a leadership shakeup at Anonymous Content, the Oscar and Emmy-winning media company behind “Spotlight” and “True Detective.” Dawn Olmstead and Heather McCauley have resigned abruptly from their roles as CEO and COO, the company said.
“Thanks to Dawn’s contributions, the company is in a strong position, and we are confident that our team, values and talent will continue to thrive,” the board of Anonymous Content said in a statement. “Dawn has been a valued leader for the past two years and we wish her and Heather the best of luck in their future endeavors.”
No reason was given for the exits, but it comes as a surprise, particularly given Olmstead’s deep relationships within Hollywood. Her departure may have something to do with a disagreement over the company’s decision to settle with Keith Redmon, a long-time executive who was fired from Anonymous Content in 2021. He later...
