Put down that notebook, grab your tap-dancing shoes, and saddle up because we're about to break down why one of Hollywood's most prominent leading men is more than Kenough.
In his thirty years as an actor, Ryan Gosling has amassed a total of 107 award nominations and 40 wins. No small feat, considering he's been known to take multiple years-long breaks in his line of work.
Having cemented a career with roles ranging from comedy to thriller to action, Gosling is not one to limit himself. As Roger Ebert said, Ryan "proves he's one of the finest actors in contemporary movies."
Starting at a young age, Gosling managed to sidestep the drama that has plagued many notable child stars in Hollywood's history.
The actor likely saw the downfall of fellow industry peers and prioritized his mental health to avoid such pitfalls.
Whatever the case, Ryan has also made a name for himself...

Ryan Gosling is living his best life these days. Or certainly his funniest. After earning an Academy Award nomination purely based on his ability to persuasively turn “Kenergy” into a noun in last summer’s Barbie, he brought that pure, uncut Ken stuff to the Oscar stage. No, not by winning the prize, but by taking home the hearts and minds of the internet with an epic performance of “I’m Just Ken.”
In hindsight, the spectacle of it all might be viewed as a turning point in his career as audiences embrace the guy who seemed so stoic and tortured in the 2010s—with his understated leading roles in Drive, Blade Runner 2049, Blue Valentine, and First Man—as actually a great comedy talent. His next studio vehicle, The Fall Guy, is in theaters now, and we can vouch for it being a breezy, lighthearted entertainment given life by...

The 16 Best Ryan Gosling Movies, from ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Drive’ to ‘Barbie’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in July 2023, and has since been updated.]
Ryan Gosling has that Ken-ergy. He’s Ken out of Ken. He’s Kendlessly Kentertaining. He’s the Kend all, be all. He’s the Kenvy of other actors. He’s impossible to not Kenjoy. He’s more, much more, than Kenough.
Gosling has had a long, fruitful career, but it’s safe to say that he’s never committed to a role as hard as he’s committed to the bit that was the “Barbie” press tour. Every interview and soundbite the Canadian actor gave in the publicity run for Greta Gerwig’s take on the iconic Mattel toy line has launched meme after meme, as he’s spoken about the importance of telling the tragic story of Barbie’s beau Ken. It’s a commitment that’s only seconded by his performance in the film itself, where he goes for broke with a hilarious, oblivious, and often sweet...

Last year, the new co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios, Gunn & Safran, revealed plans to transition from Dceu to the newly named “Dcu” and reboot the cinematic universe. They introduced the initial lineup of movies for the first chapter called ‘Gods & Monsters,’ which includes ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.’
Not much is known about the movie except that it’s adapted from Tom King’s comic book series ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ illustrated by Bilquis Evely, and the screenplay was written by Ana Nogueira. It’s considered one of the most intriguing ‘Supergirl’ stories so far. Recently, it was announced that Milly Alcock, known for her role in ‘House of the Dragon,’ will portray Supergirl, and now it appears the movie may have found its director.

Say what you will about superhero fatigue in recent months, but there's no denying that James Gunn is assembling quite a list of talent for his new DC Universe. Even though he's right in the middle of filming for "Superman", that hasn't stopped him and co-ceo Peter Safran from looking to the future for another superhero movie coming down the pipeline. After news broke earlier this year that "House of the Dragon" star Millie Alcock would be suiting up as Superman's superpowered cousin, the upcoming "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" film now has its director. That's maybe not the order of hiring we'd usually expect to see, but welcome to franchise filmmaking, folks!
According to Deadline, none other than "I, Tonya" director Craig Gillespie is currently "in talks" to helm "Supergirl." Film enthusiasts likely know him for 2007's Ryan Gosling-starring "Lars and the Real Girl" and Margot Robbie's Oscar-nominated performance in "I, Tonya,...

“I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie is in talks to direct the upcoming “Supergirl” film at Warner Bros.’ DC Studios.
The film, titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” is based on the DC comics run of the same name by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. It’s set to shoot later this year, after James Gunn’s “Superman” wraps filming. “House of the Dragon” breakout Milly Alcock will star in the titular role.
Alcock won the role after an extensive casting process during which Gunn and co-ceo Peter Safran flew multiple actors, including Meg Donnelly, to Atlanta for onscreen auditions on the “Superman: Legacy” set.
“Milly was the First person I brought up to Peter for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics,” Gunn said on social media upon her casting. “I was watching ‘House of the Dragon’ and thought she might have the edge,...

Actor Will Smith was given a 10-year ban from the Motion Picture Academy after his conduct at the 94th Oscars, where he slapped presenter Chris Rock onstage. This ban prohibits Smith from attending any Academy-related events, virtual or real, for the next decade. However, it is important to note that the ban does not affect his eligibility for future Oscar nominations.

"Crazy, Stupid, Love" is one of the best romantic comedies of the 2010s. Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa from a script by "This is Us" creator Dan Fogelman, the film features an absolutely incredible all-star cast that includes Julianne Moore, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Kevin Bacon, Marisa Tomei, John Carroll Lynch, and Joey King.
"Crazy, Stupid, Love" strikes a rare balance between being clever and sincere, emotional but not overly sentimental. The LA Times called the film "a grand romantic gesture about grand romantic gestures" when it was first released, and it hits exactly why it remains so well-liked.
The plot follows several separate storylines about people looking and reaching for seemingly out-of-reach love. At the center is Carell's Cal Weaver, a man who recently separated from his wife and gets advice from a womanizer (Gosling) on how to charm women. At the same time, Cal's...

Ryan Gosling has sung in a number of his movies, notably Lars and the Real Girl, La La Land and of course Barbie. And the upcoming release of The Fall Guy – an adaptation of the ‘80s TV show – seems ripe for another Gosling serenade. After all, the show’s theme song, “Unknown Stuntman”, was actually sung by the show’s star, Lee Majors. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Gosling will be following suit.
When asked by People if he would be taking on the song for The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling – who also led a pretty awesome band, Dead Man’s Bones – said, “I’m not, but it’s in the film and a pretty great artist sings it…I’m excited for people to hear it.” The artist he’s referring to, for what it’s worth, is American Country Award winner Blake Shelton.

Every year, there are always a few names who are in line for some awards glory after years of being the bridesmaids. Some of those names still haven’t had their moment, such as Glenn Close at the Oscars. But, this year, the Screen Actors’ Guild Awards could finally dish out some of those moments to some key names. We’re going to take a look at some of those names in just a tick but, first, a ground rule: we are only looking at people who have never won any type of SAG award, be that an individual gong or a Best Ensemble prize. There are some names this year who have won the latter but not the former, such as Bradley Cooper and Mark Ruffalo. We won’t be looking at those guys. Instead, we are looking at the pure SAG-free thespians. Here they are.

Barbenheimer kicked off when both Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan‘s “Oppenheimer” were released in theatres on the same day last year on July 21. However, the fun-spirited, lighthearted rivalry between the Warner Bros. comedy and the Universal biopic has continued into this awards season. Both “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” have often been the most nominated films at various awards groups and two performers have found themselves head to head in pretty much every precursor so far: supporting players Robert Downey Jr. and Ryan Gosling.
Downey Jr. plays scheming politician Lewis Strauss in “Oppenheimer” and produces a thoughtful, fierce performance as the film’s primary antagonist. Gosling, meanwhile, has the time of his life in the year’s most colorful performance — playing Ken, the doll obsessed with Barbie, in “Barbie.” You couldn’t get two more contrasting performances — both are genius in their own measure. Robert Downey Jr. (“Oppenheimer“) has the lead in our Oscar odds for Best Supporting Actor. He leads our Golden Globe odds too. But is there room for an upset? There just might be. If you dig into our data you’ll find more than a glimmer of hope for Ryan Gosling in “Barbie.” Broad comedic performances don’t often rule during awards season, but if Gosling wins the Globe, that could snowball his momentum into an eventual Oscar victory in March.
Downey leads our Globe forecasts for Best Film Supporting Actor with 37/10 odds based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users, but Gosling is close behind with 4/1 odds. Gosling is predicted to win by one of the Expert journalists we’ve surveyed from major media outlets, two of the Editors who cover awards year-round for Gold Derby, and two of the All-Star Top 24 who got the highest prediction scores...

Ryan Gosling is one of the biggest contenders for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar this year for his role as Ken in Greta Gerwig‘s smash hit “Barbie.” The Warner Bros. movie follows Margot Robbie‘s titular Barbie as she leaves Barbie Land for the real world in search of answers after suffering an existential crisis. Gosling’s performance as Ken has brought him plenty of plaudits, leading to a strong case for Best Supporting Actor in this year’s Oscars race.
However, this isn’t the first Oscars race Gosling has been in as he’s received two Academy Award nominations before. Let’s take a look back at them.
Gosling was first nominated in 2007 when he received a Best Actor notice for “Half Nelson,” which follows Gosling as a junior high school teacher with a drug habit. Gosling’s teacher forms a friendship with one of his students...

In addition, Barbie also counts nominations for Best Musical/Comedy, Best Actress Musical Comedy (Margot Robbie), Male Supporting Role (Ryan Gosling), Best Screenplay (Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach), Best Director (Gerwig), and a slot in the new category Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

Sony Pictures’ “Dumb Money” could be the most frightening horror movie this year, and the Oscars would be smart to embrace it. Love is a complex and multifaceted emotion that can blossom in the most unexpected places and circumstances. Throughout cinematic history, filmmakers have explored the boundaries of romantic relationships, pushing the envelope to portray unconventional and unusual love stories. Some of them are mainstream comedies, and others represent real dramas, but they are united by the common cause of showing the audience that the world of love, romance, and dating is unique, convoluted, often complex, and not as easy or ethereal as we sometimes think of it. Many famous directors tried their hand in this field and succeeded, including Jim Jarmusch, Bernardo Bertolucci, and Spike Jonze to name a few. From dark vampire romance to polyamory to kinky relationships, here are six movies that delve into the realm of unique and unconventional love.

EntertainmentAs the supporting player to Barbie’s star, Ken unwittingly becomes the locus of little girls’ expectations of and frustrations with masculinity. The ConversationAs first boyfriends go, you could do worse than Ken Carson. Introduced in 1961 by Mattel, the Ken doll was the epitome of the all-American boy next door. Clean cut, athletic and with a sharp haircut, he was the perfect counterpart to his more famous girlfriend, Barbie. Ken’s first item of clothing was a pair of red swimming trunks, indicating his sportiness and reflecting the modern American lifestyle of leisure and penchant for outdoor recreation. Created by Barbie’s inventor Ruth Handler, Ken was a boyfriend designed by women for girls. Just as Barbie was named after Handler’s daughter, so Ken was named after her son. The short squeeze occurred in January 2021 after Reddit users on a page called “Wall Street Bets” united to catalyze a market explosion. As a result, significant hedge funds and independent short sellers incurred devastating financial loss.
Based on author Ben Mezrich’s “The Antisocial Network,” “Dumb Money” similarly centers around the Reddit users behind the phenomenon with actors Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Sebastian Stan and Pete Davidson in lead roles.
The star-studded cast also includes Nick Offerman, Shailene Woodley, America Ferrera, Dane DeHaan, Vincent D’Onofrio, Clancy Brown, Anthony Ramos, Kate Burton, Christina Brucato, Deniz Akdeniz, Talia Ryder, Myha’la Herrold, Larry Owens and Rushi Kota.

“Raising Arizona” meets “Lars and the Real Girl” in Galilee Ma's sophomore drama short: “Natasha”. Beset with a strange obsession with Natasha (Meiko), a sex doll, a middle aged woman conspires to rescue her from a brothel. Despite its wildly captivating premise and build-up, the unusual film grasps at modern realities of alienation and grief in Taiwan with dwindling success. Still, strangeness abounds in this melodramatic vignette, and leaves one in anticipation of Ma's future endeavors.
“Natasha” is screening at Osaka Asian Film Festival
The perennial ills of short filmmaking seem to be cases of brilliant ideas underdeveloped. “Natasha” opens with a splash, with an ominous, but tongue-in-cheek recital of a passage from the book of Revelations. “I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” Immediately cutting away, we are thrust into the opposite...

Ryan Gosling has been preparing to play a Ken doll for 27 years ever since his 1995 screen debut. Don’t believe us? Well, the proof is in Gosling’s filmography…and his “Ken-ergy” quips.
“Finally, it’s happening. This has been coming my whole life,” Gosling joked to Variety of starring in “Barbie.”
Well, we’re opting to take those words quite literally. Two Academy Award nominations later, and Gosling is finally getting his chance to bare his chiseled abs and knockoff Calvin Klein briefs for Oscar-nominated Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” epic, in theaters July 2023.
Sure, it may seem that Gosling’s darker roles may not totally fit in the Mattel-produced Barbie Dream World, but every step in Gosling’s fated path proves he’s been Ken for a long time coming. It is all about Ken-presentation, after all.
“I felt like I was seeing myself. I felt seen,” Gosling added.

No genre of the last few decades can get on my nerves like the indie quirkfest. You know: those movies that keep poking you in the ribs to giggle at their cutely addled characters with their adorable eccentricities — I’m talking woe-is-us hipster comedies like “Pieces of April,” “Lars and the Real Girl” and the pop-crossover “Citizen Kane” of the genre, “Little Miss Sunshine.” The trouble with these movies is that even as they pretend to be lifesize, they’re too conscious about packaging their prefab weirdness; they’re edgy sitcoms minus the laugh tracks. But Rebecca Miller’s “She Came to Me,” which opened the Berlin Film Festival today, demonstrates how the indie quirkfest can be resonant and real, with characters who have soul instead of a chewy center.
The movie’s main figures aren’t just suffering from off-kilter dilemmas — they have problems we might characterize as everyday mental illness.

If we had a nickel for every time Andy Samberg.
As announced by The Hollywood Reporter, the film – written by The Menu scribe Seth Reiss – will see the Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor play a young man who, in order to save his life, undergoes an experimental procedure in which he is cryogenically frozen. When he wakes up (you guessed it!) 42.6 years later, physically unchanged thanks to having been frozen, Samberg’s character finds himself entirely alone and relying on the help of his ex-girlfriend who is now much older – and played by Jean Smart. It all sounds kinda sorta American Pickle-ish with a Sambergian twist.
No news yet on a release date for 42.6 Years, but Gillespie has past form when it comes to quirky romcoms (if you haven’t seen Ryan Gosling starrer Lars And The Real Girl you’re missing out). And with Smart having recently dazzled in HBO’s Watchmen,...

Andy Samberg and Jean Smart have teamed up for a unique May-December romantic comedy titled 42.6 Years, which is in development at Amazon Studios.
Craig Gillespie, the filmmaker behind Cruella and I, Tonya, is on board to direct the feature.
Samberg came up with the original idea and co-wrote the story with Seth Reiss, a writer on Late Night With Seth Meyers who is coming off a WGA Award nomination for The Menu. Reiss then wrote the script, which landed on the 2022 Black List.

Ryan Gosling is, to most people, a famous actor. He’s well-known for his roles in movies like The Notebook, Lars and the Real Girl, and Blue Valentine. Versatile and low-key, Gosling has given equal attention to blockbusters and independent films. Interestingly enough, Gosling has had a lesser-known career in music. While he’s remained self-deprecating about his own musical talents, some know of the artist known as “Baby Goose.”

Austin Butler’s screen acting career began 16 years ago, but, in many ways, he’s still just getting started. His breakthrough role as Elvis Presley in 2022’s “Elvis” has brought him some of his best notices yet, and he may now be on the precipice of a film industry awards season winning streak. This could include a Best Film Actor victory at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which would be historic in that he would be the youngest man to ever take the prize.
At age 31, Butler is the youngest of Gold Derby’s five presently predicted Best Film Actor SAG Award nominees by a margin of 15 years. He ranks third on our list behind Brendan Fraser and Colin Farrell and ahead of Bill Nighy and Tom Cruise. The strongest contender who is younger than Butler is Jeremy Pope in seventh place, while our top 20 includes five more actors who...

"Pinocchio" is the latest Disney animated film to get an updated "live-action" remake in our contemporary times. The 1940 original is rightfully a classic — a film that pushed the boundary of what animation can bring to the screen and a story about a boy's earnest search to find out who he is. Robert Zemeckis' remake, however, fails to capture the heart of the original. It's poorly paced, full of actors talking in multiple variants of accented English that make Dick Van Dyke's Cockney accent seem good in comparison, and delivers major characters who are stilted, disjointed, and lacking life.
The story of Zemeckis' "Pinocchio" largely follows that of the original film, inspired by "The Adventures of Pinocchio" by Carlo Collodi. An old woodworker named Geppetto wishes on a star for Pinocchio, a wooden puppet he made, to become a real boy. Geppetto gets his wish, although Pinocchio remains made of...

Photo: 'Lars and the Real Girl' We take Ryan Gosling for granted now. The Canadian powerhouse has been with us for about two decades now, and ever since his star-making role in ‘The Notebook’ back in 2004, he’s been one of Hollywood’s go-to male heartthrobs. Being a pretty face in the industry has its drawbacks, though, and while people generally like Gosling, it seems that his acting prowess has gone undervalued. Two decades and the man has only two Oscar nominations so far; it’s scandalous. Gosling garnered a Best Actor nomination for ‘Half Nelson’ in 2007, and again for ‘La La Land’ in 2017. Scandalous. I say this as someone who, ten years ago, would have been one of those people who wrote off Gosling as all beauty and no talent, and while he is certainly an exemplar of the male form, he’s also one of the...

Australian director Craig Gillespie creates an energy in his images that brings the emotional undercurrent of his characters to life. He invites you into their space to wash in their feelings without saying too much. It’s the result of close collaboration with key department heads, a dynamic that editor Tatiana Riegel was first introduced to on 2007’s “Lars and the Real Girl.” “Craig is remarkably collaborative and secure in his own feelings and ideas to not insist upon them but he allows people to interpret them where he can then say yes or no,” she told IndieWire.
Riegel said their efforts have blossomed over the course of projects like “I, Tonya” (for which she earned an Oscar nomination), “Cruella,” “The United States of Tara” in part, because even though they “are very different people, the yin and yang of it works pretty well.” Gillespie has grown fond of how...

Tatiana Riegel’s long collaboration with director Craig Gillespie includes I, Tonya — the dark comedy about the Tonya Harding 1990s figure skating scandal for which the editor earned an Oscar nomination — and their latest, Pam & Tommy, for which she again had to walk a fine line between humor and seriousness.
“For Craig to be attached to it, I knew there was going to be a certain emotional level to it,” she says of the Hulu limited series, which revolves around the marriage of model-actress Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and their notorious sex tape. “And it would be intriguing in addition to his comic sense, [showcasing] his ability to sort of walk back and forth between those two places in a lovely way.”
