The story revolves around two orphans, Andi (Emma Roberts) and Bruce (Jake T. Austin), who refuse to give up their dog Friday as they move from foster home to foster home. They find an abandoned hotel, house their dog there, and wind up taking in all sorts of stray dogs. Unfortunately, Animal Control gets involved, the dogs are about to be put to sleep, and the kids have to break into the pound to save them.
Hotel for Dogs is a 1971 novel by American author Lois Duncan, known primarily for writing children's books. The book was adapted for the movie by screenwriters Jeff Lowell, Bob Schooley, and Mark McCorkle.
Those who have both seen the movie and read the novel say that there are a great number of differences. For starters, the children are not orphans, and the "hotel" is simply an old house down the street.
