As Skydance wrapped up its merger deal with Paramount, the studio has also secured a global deal for a film package that includes Chris Pratt for the adaptation of Way of the Warrior Kid, which came out to $80-$85 million dollars. According to Deadline, that total made this the single biggest package deal out of the film market since Apple had attached onto Emancipation back in 2020. It was revealed just ahead of the Cannes market that Pratt was set to star in the project for director McG.
The film is written by screenwriter Will Staples, whose past credits include the Michael B. Jordan movie Without Remorse, and is adapted from the children’s novel by retired Navy Seal, Jocko Willink. The book’s plot synopsis, per Deadline, reads, “The youth empowerment tale follows a self-doubting boy who gets bullied and is hard-pressed to complete a single pull-up. Exclusive: In-between its months-long pursuit of Paramount, Skydance has found time to make what we understand to be an $80-$85M global deal for Chris Pratt Cannes package The Way Of The Warrior Kid.
We make this the single biggest package deal out of a film market since Apple splashed on Emancipation back in 2020.

The Will Staples (Without Remorse) script is adapted from the kids novel by Jock Willink, the retired Navy Seal who found a second career as a wildly popular podcast host, author and motivational speaker. Earlier this year, it was reported that Will Smith will continue his career damage control with a rare venture into indie territory with the action thriller Sugar Bandits. With a reported budget that circles $80 million, Sugar Bandits follows “a former Special Forces solider who joins an elite, vigilante squad aiming to wipe out the drug trade in Boston, but soon learns things are not what they seem.” With the film being put up at the European Film Market, which predominantly puts smaller films on display, the $80 million price tag makes the Will Smith vehicle the biggest movie at the show.
As the Cannes market event approaches, Deadline is reporting that Smith’s Westbrook Studios and AGC Studios have tapped Italian director Stefano Sollima to sit in the director’s seat for the vigilante thriller. “Very beautiful and very challenging.” Those are the first two words that director Stefano Sollima uses to describe his upcoming, four-part Netflix crime series Il Mostro, which has just finished filming. Created by Leonardo Fasoli and Sollima (who also co-produced with Lorenzo Mieli), and produced by The Apartment — a Fremantle company — and AlterEgo Productions, this is a series that has faced titanic challenges. Sollima is no stranger to the crime genre, having directed the so-called Romanzo Criminale (criminal Rome trilogy) — Acab (All Cops Are Bastards), Suburra and Adagio — as well as Soldado the 2018 sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, and Senza Rimorso (Without Remorse), the 2021 thriller co-written by Taylor Sheridan and based on the book by Tom Clancy. This is all in addition to being the showrunner on the seminal Italian crime series Gomorra and ZeroZeroZero, his ambitious series based on Roberto Saviano’s book about the international drug trade.

The 1963 March on Washington did not merely come together on its own via a whim, a wish, and good will. It took years of strategizing, planning, building coalitions, dodging bureaucratic obstacles and opponents both within and outside the burgeoning Civil Rights Movement. Students and veteran activists worked phone lines, sweated over the details (how many latrines do we need? how many can we get?), and sought out allies of all stripes from across the country. You might recognize Taylor Sheridan from his role as David Hale on "Sons of Anarchy" or Travis Wheatley in Paramount+'s "Yellowstone," but the actor's work on screen is arguably not as impressive as the stacked résumé of films and television shows that he has written.
Sheridan began acting in the 1990s and took on a number of small roles in various TV shows and movies throughout the remainder of the decade into the 2000s. But his career as an actor never quite took off, which is when he discovered his talent and passion for screenwriting. After writing the pilot for "Mayor of Kingstown" in 2011, he knew that's exactly what he was meant to do. "I was a fair actor, but that's all I was ever going to be," Sheridan told The Hollywood Reporter in a June 2023 interview. "Hollywood will tell you what you're supposed to do if you listen.

This beautifully shot picture features an ensemble cast of Italian A-listers comprising Pierfrancesco Favino (“Nostalgia”), Toni Servillo (“The Great Beauty”), Valerio Mastandrea (“Perfect Strangers”) and Adriano Giannini (“The Ties”). It’s the tale of three old – and once mighty – mobsters searching for redemption in a cutthroat contemporary Rome that is literally burning. They find it in the form of a 16 year old named Manuel who is being blackmailed after venturing too deep in a rotting Roman underworld world that he doesn’t understand.
You often work from books such as “Gomorrah” but this is your original idea. How did it germinate?
“Adagio” – this is no secret – is a gift that I made to myself.

NCIS: Sydney Trailer Teases Action and a Dynamic New Team as Iconic Franchise Relocates to Australia
Just when we thought we wouldn't have any NCIS content on the CBS fall schedule, the network called in an assist from NCIS: Sydney.
And now, we have our first look.
CBS dropped the official trailer for NCIS: Sydney Season 1 on Wednesday, and the series certainly capitalizes on its new setting.
It's hard to believe it's taken this long to get an international iteration of the franchise off the ground, but we'll get it on Mondays this fall when NCIS: Sydney debuts in the 10 p.m. Et timeslot.
Off the bat, the series does have the action and teamwork that made its predecessors massive success stories.
"With rising international tensions in the Indo-Pacific, a brilliant and eclectic team of U.S. NCIS agents and the Australian Federal Police (Afp) are grafted into a multinational taskforce to keep naval crimes in check in the most contested patch of ocean on the planet,...

With the NCIS franchise dormant due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, CBS is calling in an assist from Australia.
The network announced Tuesday that it will take fans down under with the debut of NCIS: Sydney.
While the series was announced for Australian audiences earlier this year, there was no telling whether it would get a stateside home.
Thankfully, U.S. fans can watch the latest chapter in the iconic franchise beginning Monday, November 13, at 10 p.m. Et/Pt.

CBS just smiled and gave us a Vegemite sandwich. “NCIS: Sydney,” previously announced as a Paramount+ Australia original and the first international edition of CBS’ “NCIS” procedural franchise, is making it to the U.S. shores as well. CBS will air the eight-episode “NCIS: Sydney” this fall on Monday nights at 10 p.m., starting Nov. 13, following its exclusive Paramount+ Australia premiere on Friday, Nov. 10.
CBS had previously announced a Monday night schedule for fall that included “NCIS” repeat at 9 p.m. Et, followed by an unspecified “Paramount+ Original” at 10 p.m., which has now been confirmed to be “NCIS: Sydney.”
“’NCIS’ is one of the most popular series in the world and we’re thrilled to expand this franchise with a uniquely Australian twist,” said CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach in a statement. “With the addition of ‘NCIS: Sydney,’ our studio and network footprint continues to grow in this fascinating...

Rome, Smoking City: Sollima Languorous Thriller Tiresomely Tests Narrative Cliches
The most apropos element of Stefano Sollima’s Adagio is the title itself, as it’s two-hour-plus running time certainly glides slowly over its intersecting elements in Rome’s underbelly of crooked cops and aging gangsters, desperately converging as wildfires ravage the metropolis. While pacing in a crime thriller doesn’t necessitate high octane frequency, it can be a burden when the narrative is structured on nonsensical motivations and poor character development. Sollima, who is returning to Italy after the meaty sequel Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018) and the clunky Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse (2021), snags two of his country’s most prolific contemporary players for his latest, Pierfrancisco Favino and Toni Servillo, both of whom feel underutilized as plot devices in this toothless thriller.…...

Adagio, as many musicians know, means “slowly” in Italian. That seems to be one of the guiding principles in this epic slow-burn crime thriller from director Stefano Sollima, who’s known for helming the lauded TV series Gomorrah and ZeroZeroZero, as well as taking on Hollywood jobs like the actioners Without Remorse and Sicario: Day of the Soldado.
He certainly has style to boot, and this very Heat-like story, which takes place in parts of Rome rarely seen in mainstream movies, is loaded with ambience, as well as brawny performances by a triumvirate of Italy’s best working actors: Pierfrancesco Favino, Toni Servillo and Valerio Mastandrea. What it lacks, however, is a gripping and original plot, as well as enough dazzling set pieces to make all the late exposition worthwhile.

“Perd Hapley is the lynchpin of an unlikely TV multiverse” is the name of the article you’re reading. And it will begin … right now.
NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation features the deepest bench of hilarious supporting characters you’ll ever see outside of The Simpsons‘ Springfield. But even among a murderer’s row of comedic talent like Joan Callamezzo (Mo Collins), Jean-Ralphio Saperstein (Ben Schwartz), and Tammy II Swanson (Megan Mullally), there’s one resident of Pawnee who stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Local news broadcaster Perd Hapley (Jay Jackson) is quite simply a TV icon. Blessed with a very distinct vocal style (that the Parks and Rec fandom Wiki accurately categorizes as “semantically redundant”), Perd often turns up on Parks and Recreation to help describe what’s happening … literally.

New films by top U.S. directors including David Fincher, Sofia Coppola, Ava DuVernay, Michael Mann, Bradley Cooper and Wes Anderson will be launching from the Venice Film Festival alongside a robust roster of European, Latin American and Asian auteurs, in a clear sign that disruption caused by two ongoing labor strikes in Hollywood is less than some expected.
Though Venice was forced a few days ago to pull its originally planned opener, Zendaya-starrer “Challengers,” due to promotional complications from the SAG-AFTRA strike, the fest’s complete lineup, announced on Tuesday, has certainly not suffered a mass exodus of Hollywood titles. On the contrary, the Lido’s firepower as an awards season pistol seems to have outgunned the probable scarcity of stars that will be on the red carpet for U.S. films, though even this aspect remains to be seen.

Amazon Studios television head Vernon Sanders is feeling confident about the tech giant’s investment in original, globally-focused franchise content following its big showing in this year’s Emmy nominations.
“When we have content that really engages and causes people to sign up for the service all around the world, and when that content actually delivers on all the creative ambition that we want, that’s when we’re actually ticking off all the boxes,” Sanders told TheWrap. “So whether it’s ‘Jack Ryan’ or ‘Citadel’ or ‘Rings of Power,’ ‘Mr. and Mrs Smith,’ that’s coming up, ‘Fallout,’ that’s coming up, the reason why you see us taking those big swings and the company being fully behind them is because candidly, they’re delivering on the strategy we need to deliver for the service.”

The British star is latest addition to the cast of Disney’s “Tron: Ares,” joining Jared Leto, Evan Peters and “Past Lives” star Greta Lee. Joachim Rønning (“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”) will direct the third “Tron” installment from a script by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.

Jack Ryan is back for its fourth but final season only on Amazon Prime. It’s sad to say goodbye to such a great, interesting spy thriller, but let’s keep brooding for later as we gear up for another notorious scheme that Jack has to dig up. Speaking of which, in every season, there has been a sinister operation at play that Ryan has to uncover and bring an end to. As cliched as it may sound, the show is famous for showcasing realistic, deep conspiracies with diplomacy as their backbone. The reality of how deep things run in the world, as addressed by the show, is what makes it one of the best in the genre. Of course, America stands supreme, but that’s only because the creator himself, the great Tom Clancy, had a great interest in the US military forces although he never got to serve...

‘Jack Ryan’ Season 4 Review: John Krasinski Cements His Legacy as Tom Clancy’s Legendary Action Hero
It’s not easy being Jack Ryan. Sure, there are the upsides to being a highly placed CIA operative and getting to jetset around the world to all kinds of exotic locales, but there’s also a whole lot of frantic running, jumping, dodging bullets and withstanding torture. As such, this week’s arrival of the fourth and final season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” on Prime Video marks just another day on the job for the titular spy. And boy, is it great to have him back — even if only to say goodbye.
This final batch of six episodes arrives on the heels of Season 3 last December, and things haven’t slowed down. Having cleared his name after finding himself implicated in a global conspiracy last time, Jack (John Krasinski) is now acting deputy director of the CIA, biding his time while acting director Elizabeth Wright (Betty Gabriel) awaits her Senate confirmation.

Hollywood has been adapting Tom Clancy’s techno-thrillers for three decades-plus — with a handful of familiar faces playing the famous character of Jack Ryan, from Alec Baldwin to Ben Affleck. But how have critics on RottenTomatoes.com rated these adaptations?

Tom Clancy’s first big-screen outing pitted CIA agent Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) against a mysterious Russian sub commander played by Sean Connery. As the L.A. The 1990 film adaptation of Tom Clancy's "The Hunt for Red October" is a sturdy, tension-filled submarine thriller featuring fine work from Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. As an author, Clancy was known for writing potboiler action stories set in the world of the military and he was especially known for his attention to detail. As a director, filmmaker John McTiernan was known for delivering successful blockbusters like "Predator" and "Die Hard" by entertainingly establishing the geography of the action and letting his actors make magic within those spaces.
But when McTiernan tried to take a realistic approach to the undersea elements of "The Hunt for Red October," Paramount executives shut him down by stepping in, taking the film away from one visual effects company, and handing it to the team at Industrial Light and Magic (Ilm) in order to replace the look McTiernan wanted with something more conventional.

Netflix and Disney+ have ads, but Amazon has another idea.
Amazon Studios will soon license its original shows and movies to third-party platforms. The newly formed Amazon MGM Studios Distribution, announced on Monday, will license out Amazon originals (and continue to license MGM content) worldwide, making Amazon Prime Video the first major streamer to enter syndication in such a big way. Will Netflix be second? After all, no one covets revenue more.
As the once-bulletproof streaming industry collectively searches for new revenue streams, Netflix has arguably been the most vocal about the importance of the top-line accounting number. The king of the streamers, once faithfully married to one lone revenue stream, previously touted subscribers as its primary metric of success. Nowadays there is ad revenue from the “Basic with Ads” tier and unearthed subscriber revenue from paid sharing, and Netflix shareholder letters no longer offer subscriber forecasts.

Universal’s CinemaCon presentation Wednesday night included an extended look at DreamWorks Animation’s “Trolls Band Together,” due in theaters Nov. 17.
The plot, concerning Branch’s estranged brother coming into Branch and Poppy’s lives, isn’t that different from “Despicable Me 3.” That said, nobody goes to a “Trolls” movie for the plot. It’s all about the psychedelic musical mind melt that’s also super kid-friendly.
Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake took to the stage to reveal a never-before-seen musical clip from the movie. The footage starts the same as the theatrical trailer, with Poppy and Branch going to a wedding and wondering if they too should tie the knot. We meet Branch’s lost-lost and estranged brother and then the trio are whisked away to rescue the other captive brothers. That leads to the usual colorful adventures, including a brief detour into 2-D animation.

Exclusive: On the heels of a record-breaking Tko with its Michael B. Jordan-directed boxing pic Creed III for Amazon/MGM, Jordan’s Outlier Society will team with the Mission: Impossible franchise’s Christopher McQuarrie to produce Iron Curtain, a new action thriller in early development at Amazon Studios.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. But McQuarrie and Emmy winner Erik Jendresen (Band of Brothers) will handle the rewrites on McQuarrie’s original screenplay. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will produce for Outlier Society, which has had a first-look film deal and overall TV deal with Amazon since 2021.
McQuarrie penned the script for Iron Curtain back in 2003 and while he initially set up the property with Intermedia, rights later transferred to Resurgence Media Group, where they remained for years. Raposo has had a long history with McQuarrie, given her 15 years at Paramount Pictures building up to the role of President of Production.

It takes place between the Skywalker Saga and The Old Republic. While it had been mostly relegated to books and comics, the upcoming Disney+ series “The Acolyte” will cover the tail end of that era of “Star Wars.”

Written by Aaron Jayh, the short thriller story The Dwelling has never been published – but that’s not stopping it from serving as the basis of a film that has Prisoners and Raised by Wolves writer Aaron Guzikowski writing the screenplay, with Michael B. Jordan and Liz Raposo’s company Outlier Society attached to produce. Jordan is also considering starring in the film. Deadline reports that Amazon Studios came out the winner in a bidding war over the project, paying an amount somewhere in the high six figures. Ground Control’s Scott Glassgold will also be producing the film with Jordan and Raposo.
Deadline notes that “Several studios bid and put together talent alignments, but it came down to Amazon and Netflix.” And Amazon won.
The Dwelling will tell the story of a newly divorced father who discovers a house buried in his backyard. He is a former all pro...

Prime Video has released a new trailer for Citadel, their rather pricey spy series starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as two mind-wiped secret agents.
“Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency—tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people—was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows,” reads the official synopsis. “With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They’ve remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason seeks out his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies...
