Today, Prime Video debuted the trailer and key art for the service’s first-ever game show, The 1% Club, hosted by award-winning comedian and actor Patton Oswalt. The unique and compelling show will test the nation’s intelligence through a series of questions backed by scientific surveys.
Beginning June 3, new episodes of The 1% Club will be available on Mondays at 9/8C on Fox and the next day on Prime Video. Prime customers will get an exclusive early look at the premiere episode starting May 23.
In each episode, 100 contestants from across the country compete for the chance to win up to $100,000. Throughout the game, host Patton Oswalt will ask a series of increasingly difficult, logic-based questions.
This game does not test intelligence; instead, it inquires about the way your brain works through 15 entertaining questions, starting with the 90% question and ending with the toughest test of the night, the 1% question. Who...

You sickos have finally done it. Forced us into a conversation we thought was reserved for socials and online forums but is now turning mainstream. Are you happy? Do you feel proud of yourselves? It all started innocently enough, according to Vulture, when a commenter posted on a Q&a with Josh O’Connor in 2020, saying, “Josh could easily play Alfredo Linguini in [a] ‘Ratatouille’ movie.”
Not much was made of the comment initially, but in 2021, O’Connor admitted in an interview with Odessa Young that “Ratatouille” holds a soft spot in his heart and is one of the few films that can get him crying. Years later, he would add to this as he was making and marketing his recent films “La Chimera” and “Challengers,” saying Zendaya was a fan of ‘Ratatouille’ as well and that she and co-star Mike Faist would have viewing parties of it with him in between filming.

Pixar fans who have already been there for a while are aware of the company’s love for Easter eggs and small and sometimes even hardly noticeable plot details that are in fact direct references to Pixar’s other movies. The tradition entailed a great variety of fans’ theories and one of them is getting trendy thanks to some astonishing revelations.
The theory developed by Jon Negroni more than 10 years ago suggests that all the stories that Pixar has ever created — be that Up, Monsters, Inc., Ratatouille or Inside Out — are actually happening within the same universe.
Negroni’s surmise has received yet another confirmation when Pixar released a brand new teaser trailer for Inside Out 2 that featured one specific element coming from the studio’s 2022’s film Turning Red.
Is Bing Bong a Monster from Monsters Inc.?
But Inside Out seems to be much more profound in terms of such intersections.

Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted is loosely based on the invention of Pop-Tarts. Seinfeld’s feature directorial debut uses a shot inspired by the Steven Spielberg classic of 1975, Jaws. In the film, Spielberg uses the Dolly Zoom shot, which the Seinfeld creator has copied in his upcoming Netflix comedy. Seinfeld opened up about how such classic cinematic shots influenced him as a filmmaker.
Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted, releasing on Netflix, will have some interesting cinematic shots
Seinfeld’s film stars an ensemble cast including Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Melissa McCarthy, and Amy Schumer. Seinfeld, Barry Marder, who writes for Seinfeld’s stand-up shows, and Seinfeld writers Spike Feresten and Andy Robin wrote the screenplay of the film.

Dan Wallin, the music scoring engineer who recorded such classic film scores as “Spartacus,” “Bullitt,” “The Wild Bunch” and “Out of Africa,” died early Wednesday in Hawaii. He was 97.
Twice Oscar-nominated for best sound (1970’s “Woodstock” and 1976’s “A Star Is Born”), he won a 2009 Emmy for sound mixing on the Academy Awards telecast and received two additional Emmy nominations in the sound mixing category.
But it was Wallin’s skill behind the console, recording and mixing musical scores for movies and TV, that won him legions of fans among nearly all of Hollywood’s top composers and ensured steady employment for more than half a century.
He recorded the music for an estimated 500 films, including those for “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Cool Hand Luke” and “Finian’s Rainbow” in the 1960s; “The Way We Were,” “Blazing Saddles,” “Nashville,” “King Kong” and “Saturday Night Fever” in the 1970s; “Somewhere in Time,” “The Right Stuff...

Seal the vents and watch the monitors because Patton Oswalt, Debra Wilson, Phil Lamarr, and Wayne Knight are getting sus for CBS Studios‘ Among Us animated series.
In the adaptation of the wildly popular social deception game, Patton Oswalt is the voice of White, a contest winner who abides by the mantra of no trauma, no drama. Oswalt’s White would instead leave the heavy lifting to others and believes wealth can be a personality trait.
Debra Wilson voices Yellow, also known as Ship Cook #1. Indignant, opinionated, and a relentless prankster, Yellow’s pleasure is making pizza and sharing a slice with their best friend, Brown (Lamarr).
Phil Lamarr voices Brown, also known as Ship Cook #2. Unlike Yellow, Brown is chill, supportive, and accountable. Brown is a pizza enthusiast and a fan of Yellow’s shenanigans.

Today was the Disney annual shareholder meeting. One of the more odd claims that Disney CEO Bob Iger made involved a question regarding Universal Orlando’s upcoming Epic Universe theme park.
Epic Universe will open in 2025, and Disney has not made many announcements for Walt Disney World outside of rethemes, stage shows, and odd upcoming attractions like Smellephants on Parade.
During the meeting, a question was posed to Iger about the upcoming competition.
With Epic Universe opening up in Orlando in 2025, why hasn’t Disney prepared anything or placed more than just a handful of attractions in the pipeline to be ready for this in 2025 at Walt Disney World?
Iger responded by claiming that Disney had known about Epic Universe for years, and that its expansions, going back seven years, were in response to it.
Iger said, “Thank you very much for your question but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The Oscar is the pinnacle of achievement in the filmmaking industry, a dream for many. However, the reality is that not everyone can emerge victorious.

Life is about to become pure chaos thanks to every teen’s dreaded emotion: anxiety. (It’s pretty bad for grownups too.)
Maya Hawke joins Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” as Anxiety, the new voice inside tween Riley’s (Kensington Tallman) head. Join the club. Delightful and eccentric stop-motion movie The Inventor is the first feature film from Jim Capobianco, the director of Pixar’s Ratatouille short, Your Friend The Rat.

What follows are two short sections that might be of particular interest. U.S. director and producer Robert Rippberger, who recently wrapped sci-fi thriller “Renner” with Frankie Muniz, is headed to the European Film Market in Berlin to launch the sales unit of his banner Sie Films. Its slate will be fronted by his next project, the horror thriller “Monstrosity.”
“Monstrosity,” which is currently in pre-production, is a creature feature that Rippberger will produce and direct. To create its titular monsters, Rippberger recruited concept artist Aaron Sims, whose work includes “Stranger Things,” “Ready Player One” and “Wonder Woman 1984.” Production on the film is expected to kick off later this year in one of the Morgan International full-service special effects facilities in Europe. Writer Sabir Pirzada is producing “Monstrosity” alongside Rippberger.
“Monstrosity” opens on a young village boy who goes missing down a mine shaft. His father blames a strange family in the neighboring house, but of course far more is at play.

National Geographic just launched A Real Bug’s Life, a premium wildlife documentary based on the Pixar movie.
Courteney Monroe, president of National Geographic Global Television Networks, said that this is only the start in terms of it adapting Disney IP.
Monroe was asked whether she could see a real-life version of Ratatouille and said it was a “good idea”.
“There is such a rich IP to mine and there’s so much shared DNA between the Nat Geo and Disney brands that we are exploring lots of opportunities,” she said at the TCA press tour. “You can imagine maybe a real Finding Nemo and other franchises there, where there’s so many families with young children on the Disney+ platform that would gravitate to the real world storytelling around this franchise.”
Earlier this morning, Nat Geo renewed A Real Bug’s Life, narrated by Awkwafina, for a second season, due to launch in the fall.

Last year, Hollywood took stock of the potential — and dangers — of generative artificial intelligence. As use of the human-mimicking chatbots evolved into a sticking point in the strikes, creators took to the courts, accusing AI firms of mass-scale copyright infringement after their works were allegedly used as training materials. In the backdrop of these legal volleys, a question stands out: Why haven’t any major studios sued to protect their intellectual property like other rights holders?
One answer involves the possibility that they’re still negotiating with AI companies, with the aim of striking a licensing deal. A grimmer scenario involves the potential that they want to harness the tools for themselves to cut labor costs. Another involves the possibility that they’re biding their time to compile evidence and keep an eye on how the other cases are progressing.

At the intersection of interests for cinephiles and foodies lie great movies about food. Films like "Big Night," "Ratatouille," "Babette's Feast," "Tampopo," and "The Trip" movies occupy a special place in the stomachs -- er, minds -- of viewers, and I'm pleased to report that another movie has instantly catapulted into that hallowed pantheon.
"The Taste of Things," from director Trần Anh Hùng, received a limited theatrical release earlier this year for awards consideration (it's the French contender for Best International Feature at the 2024 Oscars), but it won't actually receive a bigger release in the United States until February of 2024. Still, for those who vibe with the types of movies I listed above, this will be a major event at the movies. And aside from being only a great movie about food, it's also a great movie, period -- it's technically one of the best of 2023, but even if you...

Illumination is a rare animation studio, in that they have landed upon a formula for the majority of their films and they seem perfectly content in hewing to that formula no matter what stories are being told. The studio thrives on mid-budget films that bring together a recognizable ensemble, some pop songs, and stories that feel vaguely cribbed from Pixar Animation Studios without being out-and-out plagiarism. Illumination, like DreamWorks, also leans heavily on turning its films into lengthy franchises, which has given us the obnoxious and leaden "Despicable Me" series (including its multiple "Minions" spin-offs), the obnoxious and leaden "Sing" films, and the obnoxious and leaden "The Secret Life of Pets" films. For this holiday season, Illumination is trying to do another original film, but much like the first "Secret Life of Pets", the new film "Migration" is original in name only, while feeling like a flavorless mishmash of "Finding Nemo" and "Ratatouille.

In just a few weeks, the 18th recipient of the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature will be revealed. While it is highly likely that the new winner will share a 3D visual style in common with nearly all of its predecessors, voters may instead decide to finally honor a fully hand-drawn movie for the first time. Fittingly, this monumental distinction would be credited to the legendary Studio Ghibli and its esteemed cofounder, Hayao Miyazaki, who suspended his brief retirement in order to make his dozenth film, “The Boy and the Heron.”
With an original plot that pointedly references the classic Japanese novel “How Do You Live?,” “The Boy and the Heron” is the 25th entry in Studio Ghibli’s animated canon and the company’s 10th film released after the creation of this Golden Globe category. Maya Hawke is bringing out the awkward tween emotion that Gen Zers know all too well: anxiety.
Hawke stars in “Inside Out 2,” the sequel to the 2015 Oscar-winning Pixar film. The Disney movie won Best Animated Feature and was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay, one of only four Pixar films to be nominated in that category.
While Academy Award winner Pete Docter does not return to write or direct “Inside Out 2,” the original cast is back in full force, with Amy Poehler playing Joy, Phyllis Smith voicing Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Tony Hale playing Fear, and Liza Lapira starring as Disgust, all voices inside growing tween Riley’s head.
Now, Hawke’s Anxiety takes a wrecking ball to the inside of Riley’s mind as emotions bicker, battle, and tumble toward the confusing state of puberty. Kelsey Mann directs the film, which is produced by Mark Nielsen.

David Ellison’s fledgling Skydance Animation — run by head of animation John Lasseter and president Holly Edwards — has moved its movie slate from Apple Studios to Netflix. The multi-year streaming deal commences with next year’s musical fantasy “Spellbound,” directed by Vicky Jenson (“Shrek” and “Shark Tale”), featuring the voice talent of Rachel Zegler, Nicole Kidman, and Javier Bardem, and boasting a score from Alan Menkin and original songs with lyricist Glen Slater. It’s about a princess who tries to reverse a spell that transformed her parents into monsters.

New State Pictures has joined forces with Curiosity Rights to secure the life rights of scientist Susan Solomon, who led pioneering research into the destruction of the ozone layer in the 1980s.
The partners plan to produce a film that will place a spotlight on how the work undertaken by Solomon and her team led to global awareness of the issue and action to resolve the crisis.
Solomon, then only 30, along with her team, unearthed findings that have shaped our approach to environmental preservation. Their research pointed to the rapidly growing hole in the ozone layer over the Antarctic. The continuing growth of the hole would have led to exposure to toxic sun radiation worldwide.
Her team established the adverse effects of chlorofluorocarbons on the ozone layer, which was instrumental in the historic adoption of the Montreal Protocol in 1987. This landmark agreement regulates the production and consumption of nearly 100 man-made...

With “The Inventor,” Jim Capobianco (the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of “Ratatouille“) has managed to direct a family-friendly animated musical (in both stop-motion and 2D) about Leonardo da Vinci’s search for the meaning of life at the end of his life. That’s quite a da Vinci code to crack. That is why it took 12 years to make as a co-production with Curiosity Studio (Ireland), Foliascope (France), Aerial Contrivance Studios, and Robert Rippberger’s Sie Films.
Capobianco’s fascination with da Vinci began with the 2009 2D short “Leonardo,” after intense research into his legendary life as an inventor of flying machines, artist, and pioneer in the study of human anatomy. But what sparked Capobianco’s interest was the notion of da Vinci as “a real person struck with ideas beyond the technical, intellectual, and the societal capabilities of his time.” For him, “The Inventor” explores legacy, how you live your life,...

Ratatouille (2007) was one of Pixar‘s masterpieces of the 2000s. A Brad Bird and Jan Pinkava project, Ratatouille became Pixar’s eighth produced film. The movie was an all-round success, being critically acclaimed and a box-office success. Unsurprisingly, Ratatouille became the sixth highest-grossing film of the year and the second highest-grossing animated movie. Ratatouille won the Oscars for Best Animated Feature at the 80th Academy Awards in 2008, receiving nominations in several categories. Since the Writers Guild of American and Screen Actors Guild are both still on strike, this year's Destination D23 convention down in Orlando, Florida didn't really have much of anything to showcase. But there was one other announcement that might be intriguing for anyone who is both a Disney fan and a physical media collector.

Animated flicks don’t get the justice they deserve when it comes to the Academy Awards. So often, animated movies are some of the most original, memorable, and well-told stories of the entire year yet they are, more often than not, confined to the category of Best Animated Picture.
“Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” “Fantasia,” “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “The Lion King,” “Toy Story,” “Finding Nemo,” “Wall-e,” “Shrek,” and last year’s Best Animated Picture winner, “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” are just a handful of all-time classic movies that aren’t great animated movies, they are great movies period. These days, it feels like so many major Hollywood movies are based on preexisting properties or serving as sequels, prequels, or remakes to popular films that there's no room for fresh ideas. Fortunately, movies based on original concepts do still make an impact on the film industry and continue to garner critical acclaim and commercial support at the box office. Looking back through cinema history, those movies that made their mark without becoming a franchise stand out as truly special experiences.
For the purposes of this article, a movie is considered a franchise if it has at least one follow-up, including follow-ups in active development. Movies are additionally considered franchises if they're based on television series, direct-to-video films, or products, like "Barbie." Just two years ago, it seemed like the summer blockbuster might be a thing of the past. After Covid kept cinemas closed across the United States for the majority of 2020, the box office reopened in 2021 on uncertain footing, with many high profile flops and a soft performance for the movies overall. That summer seemed like the harbinger of the end for the seasonal release strategy that “Jaws” perfected all the way back in 1975, wherein the hottest months hosts the biggest titles — marketed aggressively to theatergoers. It seemed like those days were behind us, and the streaming age had finally overtaken the days when movies could be events. So thank goodness for “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.”

As if to make up for lost time, Lawrence has in “No Hard Feelings” made the kind of R-rated teen comedy that has usually launched young actors. She plays a 32-year-old Montauk Uber driver who, desperate for money after her car is towed, is hired by the wealthy parents of a timid and sheltered 19-year-old (newcomer Andrew Barth Feldman) to take his virginity before he heads off to Princeton.

2007 was a perfect year for films. We were graced with the first Transformers film in the series, which is still the best. Spider-Man 3 showed us that Tobey Maguire has some of the best dance moves in town, Judd Apatow provided us with great summer laughs in both Knocked Up and Superbad, Bruce Willis’s John McClaine returned in Live Free or Die Hard and a little rat warmed our hearts by serving us a dish of perfection in Ratatouille. While that’s all perfect, I’d say that I had my highest hopes for one movie in particular… 28 Weeks Later (watch it Here). You may be thinking, of all the films, that’s the...

Spanish director J.A. Bayona (The Impossible, The Orphanage) is re-teaming with his Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom composer Michael Giacchino for his new project, La sociedad de la nieve (Society of the Snow). Netflix, which is producing the Spanish-language survival thriller, confirmed the news on Tuesday.
Society of the Snow aims to retell the story of the Uruguayan rugby team which, en route to Chile in 1972, crash-landed on a glacier in the heart of the Andes. The survivors were forced to resort to extreme measures in order to stay alive. Bayona, Bernat Vilaplana, Jaime Marques and Nicolás Casariego co-wrote the screenplay to Society of the Snow, adapting the non-fiction book La sociedad de la nieve by Pablo Vierci. Filming took place in 2022 in Spain, Uruguay and Chile including on location in the El Valle de las Lágrimas, where the real crash occurred.

Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter recently told the press that he doesn’t “think of Pixar as making children’s programming.”
By the look of box office returns for the studio’s recent animated offerings, it would appear that kids have taken notice — and haven’t been so inclined to watch those movies in theaters.
Over the weekend, “Elemental” collapsed at the domestic box office with a $29.5 million opening, by far the worst debut in Pixar’s 28-year history. Even forgettable Pixar adventures, like 2015’s “The Good Dinosaur” ($39 million), 2020’s “Onward” ($39 million) and last year’s massive money-loser “Lightyear” ($51 million), managed to fill more seats in their opening weekends.
The film didn’t rebound much at the international box office with $15 million from select markets, bringing its global tally to a disastrous $44.5 million.
There’s a bigger issue for Pixar: it’s not just youngsters, but general audiences,...

“The Flash,” a superhero adventure starring Ezra Miller, emerged victorious over Pixar’s “Elemental” in a battle of box office lightweights.
This weekend’s two new releases were once expected to ignite the summer blockbuster season; instead, both entirely missed the mark. “The Flash” stumbled with $55 million and “Elemental” collected just $29.5 million in their respective debuts. Both films fell short of already-low expectations. Worse, they were pricy endeavors, costing $200 million to make and roughly $100 million to market, so they are shaping up to be huge disappointments in their theatrical runs.
In the lead-up to “The Flash,” executives at Warner Bros. worked hard to convince the public that the film is “one of the greatest superhero movies ever made,” per newly minted DC Studios co-chief James Gunn. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the story picks up as Miller’s Barry Allen a.k.a The Flash travels back in time to prevent...

Earlier Friday at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, before a screening of their new feature “Elemental,” Pixar unveiled an episode of “Win or Lose,” the first long-form streaming series from the legendary animation studio that’s set to debut on Disney+ this December. And the episode did much to ease fears that Pixar has somehow lost its touch; it is easily one of the most artful, exciting and emotionally incisive things the studio has done. And the wait for more episodes just became downright excruciating.
“Win or Lose,” originally announced during Disney’s investors’ day presentation in December 2020, hinges around an ingenious, incredibly identifiable concept – a middle school softball team is headed toward the championship and each 20-minute episode is told from the point of view of one of the players, their parents or the adults who play with them, like the umpire or coach (voiced by Will Forte...
