- The initial cut of the picture included more explicit footage during the sex scene between Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton, which was trimmed down after the MPAA threatened to give the film a NC-17 rating. The uncut version premiered at the Berlin Film Festival on February 8, 2001. The R-rated US theatrical release is the cut version; the version released theatrically in Canada and most other countries is the uncut version.
- About 11 minutes was cut out for Qantas Airways showings in Australia.
- Both the Australian (OFLC: R 18+) and British (BBFC: 15) theatrical releases exhibited the cut MPAA 'R' version. However, the DVD releases for both countries is the uncut version (with 2 sex scenes intact) which the Australian DVD carries a label saying "Explicit version: Not seen in cinemas". Both countries maintained their cinema ratings for DVD.
- The video was eventually released uncut in the USA in 2003 with the love scene intact, it is under the label "Signature Series".
