Adam Sandler-starring comedies are seemingly not critics’ favorites, as they often fell victim to their strict judgment. All of us can recall such hilarious genre’s staples as Big Daddy (1999), Click (2006) and Grown Ups (2010), but it may come as a surprise that their critical score is less than 40% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie that is now holding the fifth place in HBO’s global top is no exception, as it was panned by critics, but liked by the actor’s fans, just like the mentioned titles.
Its plot focuses on a pizzeria owner who lives his calm life in a small town. However, it’s about to change, as he is the only heir of his deceased uncle who leaves him a fortune of $40 billion. He embarks on a journey into the big city’s world of luxuries, large businesses and, moreover, tabloid reporters, who urge to know his success story.

There’s no denying that Adam Sandler is one of the biggest names in comedy. Starting out as a comedian, he quickly achieved Hollywood stardom as he transcended to acting, starring in blockbuster comedy movies like Big Daddy, The Waterboy, and Mr. Deeds. However, like many comedy stars, Sandler wanted to venture out of his comfort zone and prove himself in the dramatic realm as well. Sandler’s foray into drama started with 2002’s Punch-Drunk Love, where he showcased a side to his framework that audiences didn’t know he possessed. After this, dramatic movies came few and far between as he mostly...

Though it’s based on a 2005 movie of the same name, Prime Video’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith is something that’s increasingly rare these days: an honest-to-goodness TV show. The Donald Glover and Francesca Sloane-created spy thriller understands the required rhythms of its medium very well. Each episode presents a self-contained chapter within the dangerous marriage of John (Glover) and Jane Smith (Maya Erskine) while also subtly forwarding their overall story.
The commitment to the usual TV format also means that Mr. and Mrs. Smith gets to introduce one hell of a roster of guest stars. Save for its finale, every episode of this show features at least one stupendously talented and famous guest star. If you’re wondering who each of these guest stars are or where you’ve previously seen them: don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. What follows is a list of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith cast,...

Adam Sandler’s daughter Sunny Sandler is now a movie star in her own right, but before she had a clear sense of how Hollywood works, she wasn’t thrilled about seeing her dad kiss actresses for his films.
Sandler appeared as a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday to promote his new Netflix animated feature, Leo, in which his daughters, Sadie and Sunny, join him in the voice cast. He and Hudson reminisced about co-starring together in Netflix’s 2017 title Sandy Wexler, with Hudson remembering that her son, David, who was 6 years old at the time, was confused as to why she was kissing her co-star in a scene.
For his part, Sandler responded that his own daughters have sometimes struggled with seeing him smooch actresses for his projects, with Sunny, now 15, having had a stronger reaction to it than her older sister, Sadie, now 17. Sunny and...

For a movie that's mostly about how friendships are forever, the 2010 Adam Sandler comedy "Grown Ups" may have had fans wondering about a conspicuously missing face from the sequel. For much of Sandler's career on the big screen, he's been joined by longtime friend and collaborator Rob Schneider. Starting with 1998's "The Waterboy," the two actors have appeared in well over a dozen movies together, from the likes of "Mr. Deeds" and "The Longest Yard" to even an animated movie like "Eight Crazy Nights." Contrary to recent rumors, the bond still seems to be going strong as the two ended up joining forces again in 2017's "Sandy Wexler" and once more in "Hubie Halloween" three years ago. But that hasn't stopped fans from wondering why, after such a prominent role in "Grown Ups," Schneider didn't return for another go-around in "Grown Ups 2."

Adam Sandler once teamed up with veteran actor Winona Ryder for their 2002 flick Mr. Deeds. Throughout the course of the film, Ryder showed Sandler that she could even be funnier than the comic himself at times.

Mr. Deeds was a 2002 comedy about an honest and earnest working man who comes to inherit a fortune and a huge media conglomerate. Sandler played the titular character Deeds in the film, with Ryder filling in the role of his co-star. One of the reasons Ryder gravitated towards the feature was simply because she was an admirer of the comedian’s work.

Although "Billy Madison" got poor reviews at the time, it still holds up for the kids who grew up watching it. That "I award you no points" speech is still iconic, and the scene with the O'Doyle family cheering as they fall to their deaths is still funny. It also helps that Adam Sandler would go on to make a ton of other movies throughout his career, and most of them make this movie's script look like Shakespeare in comparison. We've seen what a truly terrible Adam Sandler movie looks like, and this ain't it.
The exact version of "Billy Madison" we got almost never happened because the studio originally had mixed feelings. "The studio didn't know what to think about the film, which was, frankly, weird," director Tamra Davis explained. "Thank god for audience test scores — they loved it."

With certain cinematic performances, we could not possibly fathom another actor in the same part. Only Bette Davis could have played Margot Channing in "All About Eve." Only Bruce Willis could have played John McClane in "Die Hard." Only Samuel L. Jackson could have played Jules in "Pulp Fiction." Of course, the reality is this isn't true. Countless actors audition and lose out on parts they would be perfect for all the time because of a variety of random reasons completely out of their control, yet when see a transcendent performance, we still believe the actor has performed magic in front of us. The filmmakers got the one person in the entire world made to play this particular character.
For me and many others, one such performance is James Stewart's Oscar-nominated turn as the titular character in Frank Capra's "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington." The notion of Stewart as a folksy,...

Social commentary in motion pictures implies high art. Pink Flamingos, which premiered on a single screen in a rented theater in Baltimore 50 years ago, is an antisocial commentary. It goes in the other direction. Written, directed, produced, shot, edited, and narrated by counterculture icon John Waters, the film features singing assholes, chicken-crushing sexcapades, and dog-doo finger foods. It changed movies forever.

The 1990s were the heyday for kid-led sports movies, with films like "The Big Green," "The Sandlot," "Little Giants," "Ladybugs," "Air Bud," "Little Big League," "Angels in the Outfield," and "Rookie of the Year" becoming household favorites, but only one* became a certified cultural phenomenon. Disney's "The Mighty Ducks" spawned a trilogy of films, an animated television series, a live-action sequel television series, and a real-life National Hockey League hockey team. After more than 18 years on ABC’s long-running Grey’s Anatomy, star Ellen Pompeo has weighed in on what her on-screen future may look like after Dr. Meredith Grey.
“Probably not movies, I don’t have a movie career,” Pompeo said during Audacy’s Check In.
In a chat with Audacy’s Dax Holt, Pompeo said that the days of pigeon-holing of TV actors to solely television projects are over thanks to the ubiquity of streaming. However, even the shifts of the entertainment landscape won’t necessarily push the actress to the big screen.
“Before, being on a network for so long, you’d literally be doomed. That definitely is not the case anymore so I probably wouldn’t do movies per se, but I probably will do some streaming television,” Pompeo continued.
Though the actress didn’t delve too deep into the types of streaming projects she’d take on,...

There’s a lot of great new stuff coming to Netflix in January, with over 75 titles being added to the streaming giant’s library over the course of next month. Unfortunately, it’s just the way it goes, though, that we’ve got to lose some old content to get new content and a bunch of movies and TV shows will be removed from the site across January as well. Thankfully, this coming month isn’t a huge one for losses, but there’s still a decent amount that’ll be departing.
Of course, the title that most Netflix users will be missing in January actually leaves on December 31st – The Office is being removed from the service on New Year’s Eve so that it can stream exclusively on NBC’s newly activated streaming platform Peacock. Marvel Studios may have perfected the formula over the last twelve years, but they were hardly the first to set their movies in a shared cinematic universe. All of Quentin Tarantino’s work takes place in the same mythology, and he’s even established two distinct timelines to the extent where fans can join the dots between his films, with the writer/director explaining that characters from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction would theoretically go and see From Dusk Till Dawn and Kill Bill on the big screen.
Adam Sandler, meanwhile, recently joked that he’d love to do an Avengers-style crossover for Happy Madison Productions, and while the actor’s fans have become accustomed to seeing the same faces show up in a lot of his projects, the Sandler-verse has already existed for well over 20 years. Little Nicky was the second pic released by Happy Madison and the...

The hospitalization in May was in relation to a kidney infection she suffered last December.

Hubie Halloween continues to reign supreme as the single most popular movie on Netflix around the world, once again reaffirming Adam Sandler‘s reputation as the crown jewel of the streaming service. Almost everything the actor touches turns to gold for the platform, with subscribers spending billions of hours watching Happy Madison Productions content in what’s the closest thing to a guaranteed hit as you can get in today’s extra competitive market where viewership preferences change on a dime.
It’s little wonder that the company are keen to extend a working relationship that’s proven to be hugely beneficial for both parties so far, and you get the distinct impression that if Sander was to drag his heels, then almost every other streaming service would be putting together a hugely lucrative package to try and lure him away from Netflix.

Hubie Halloween, the next Adam Sandler-headlined Netflix film in fulfillment of the actor’s lucrative deal with the streaming giant, is imminently arriving on the streaming platform. Interestingly, the comedy not only provides vicarious celebration for a 2020 Halloween season likely to be squelched by the health crisis, but also showcases Sandler revisiting his character well of lovable imbeciles with quixotic missions, as teased in the first trailer
Appropriately set in the witchy hamlet of Salem, Massachusetts, the film centers on Sandler’s character, Hubie Dubois, a kind-but-eccentric local Halloween enthusiast, whose self-appointed role as a nebby safety patroller as earned him some derision. However, the threat of an escaped criminal and unexplained—seemingly supernatural—disappearances has turned this year’s fall holiday into an ordeal for the ever-vigilant Hubie, even in the face of incredulous authorities.

Having renewed their fruitful partnership earlier this year for a hefty $275 million, Netflix and Adam Sandler‘s Happy Madison Productions show no signs of slowing down their output, with the actor’s work – be it whether he stars in the films or just produces them – almost always proving to be amongst the streaming service’s most reliable titles when it comes to drawing in viewers.
Indeed, it truly does seem like every Sandler vehicle old or new cracks the platform’s Top 10 most-watched list, which is certainly impressive. The 53 year-old’s last two collaborations with Netflix, in particular, show just how important he is to their business, with Murder Mystery becoming the streaming site’s fifth most-watched original movie ever and The Wrong Missy landing in eighth spot on the list, despite Sandler only acting as producer on the latter.

Netflix plan on riding the Sandler gravy train for a while yet, too, following reports that they’re keen to tie the 53 year-old down for even longer even though the two sides only renewed their agreement in January of this year, with Happy Madison Productions picking up $275 million for their near-constant contributions to the Top 10 most-watched list.

August has been a great month for Netflix so far, most notably thanks to the addition of plenty of classic films that will stoke the flames of nostalgia for many subscribers. But as usual, Netflix isn’t content to rest on its laurels, and today marks a substantial content drop for the service that is adding plenty of new movies and shows. The even better news, however, is that quite a lot of it is stuff you’re not going to want to miss.

With the summer starting to wind down, Netflix appear to be taking their foot off the gas a little bit when it comes to releasing high-profile original movies. Over the last few months, the streaming service has debuted a string of in-house projects that have either been subjected to widespread critical acclaim or racked up huge viewing numbers, and frequently both.
Netflix can sometimes be fairly secretive about their viewership data unless they’re shouting their success from the rooftops, and having recently revealed their Top 10 most-watched original movies ever, you can understand why they went public. If you include the reported 72 million streams for Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard that would see it claim sixth spot in the rankings, then four of the Top 10 were released between March and July of this year alone.
However, despite having a huge number of high-profile originals scheduled for the rest of the year,...

As good of a month as July was for Netflix subscribers, the streaming giant looks to deliver an almost as impressive August and they kicked things off yesterday with a huge drop that comprised old classics, forgotten films, underrated gems and more. And while not super heavy for horror, in particular, there were still a few notable titles that arrived on the platform yesterday that are sure to get your blood pumping and make your palms sweaty.
For instance, the original Jurassic Park trilogy – that’s Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III – is now on Netflix and while perhaps not the scariest films out there, they still do have their moments of horror and hold up very well even today. The first one, of course, is a bonafide classic, but its two sequels are certainly worth a watch as well.

It’s probably not a stretch to say that Adam Sandler is one of the most divisive actors out there. Sure, most of his stuff does well at the box office, while his streaming efforts always pull in huge numbers for Netflix, but his lowbrow comedies are routinely bashed by critics, who often call him out for phoning in his performances.
This is made especially frustrating as we all know that he’s capable of awards-worthy work. Just look at Uncut Gems, for instance, a film that many predicted would score him an Oscar nomination. That being said, Sandler knows what his fans want and despite the brutal reviews, his followers absolutely love his efforts in the comedy genre and always turn up for them.
That’s true of the most recent Adam Sandler movie to land on Netflix as well, Mr. Deeds. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 22%, this 2002 effort was,...

Though Netflix has dropped a few notable titles from its library to say goodbye to July, today has brought us a whole heap of fresh content to usher in the new month. With over 30 new movies and TV shows, August has been welcomed with a truckload of classic films, mostly from the 90s and the early 00s, as well as some other interesting titles that you may want to check out.
The most attention-grabbing additions are all three Jurassic Park movies, which are hopping over to Netflix after a short stint on Peacock. So, you may want to travel back to Isla Nubar yet again this weekend and treat yourself to a rewatch of the prehistoric trilogy. Elsewhere, there are the two sequels to Ocean’s Eleven and medieval adventure A Knight’s Tale starring the much-missed Heath Ledger.
Also, watch out for Tobey Maguire’s horse-racing themed drama Seabiscuit, Robert Pattinson...
