The Boys season 4 premieres its first three episodes on Thursday, June 13. Based on the trailers, The Boys is really leaning into the political side of its social satire with a presidential election underway and Homelander on trial for the small matter of killing a guy last season. The season will continue to air on Thursdays, culminating with the finale on July 18.
Amazon is really leaning into its sports offerings this month as well. Fans will get to watch the New York Yankees, the WNBA, and the Nwsl several times throughout June. That’s in addition to a couple of sports docs: Power of the Dream on June 18 and Federer: Twelve Final Days on June 20.
But if you’re looking for something even more explosive than Homelander and Roger Federer,...

One of the world's highest-grossing and most famous film directors started out as a special effects artist for the king of B-movies, Roger Corman, known for his ability to shoot quickly and cheaply. Perhaps it was Corman's projects that made James Cameron swear off making low-budget movies, eventually becoming the first director in the world to receive budgets of $100 and $200 million.
Today, Cameron is considered to be not only one of the most important science fiction directors of our time, but also one of the most successful directors in general, whose films break unattainable box office records and are incredibly loved by audiences.
But few fans know that at the very beginning of the 2000s, Cameron created a sci-fi project for the small screens starring Jessica Alba – Dark Angel.
What is Dark Angel About?
An electromagnetic pulse caused by terrorists in 2009 has left the US in a state of decline.

Jessica Alba isn’t satisfied with the explanation for her father’s unexpected death in the first trailer for the Netflix action thriller Trigger Warning.
Mouly Surya directed the film that launches June 21 on the streaming service and includes co-stars Mark Webber, Jake Weary, Anthony Michael Hall, Kaiwi Lyman and Hari Dhillon. Trigger Warning centers on Special Forces commando Parker (Alba) becoming the new owner of her dad’s bar in their hometown after his sudden passing. Back home, she learns that the town is now controlled by a violent gang as she aims to get answers about the tragedy.
“I don’t think his death was an accident,” Alba says in the trailer. Later, she explains, “This is about more than just my dad. I need to know the truth.”

Jessica Alba is no stranger to action. The star of Dark Angel and Sin City has a long history of kicking butt on-screen, but in her new film Trigger Warning(which Alba also executive produced), she gets more than she bargained for.
“I haven’t really done hand-to-hand combat and intense action in such a long time,” Alba tells Tudum. And she means intense. Alba was determined to make Trigger Warning protagonist Parker into more than just a gunplay expert. Working with director Mouly Surya and the film’s stunt team, Alba incorporated Indonesian knife fighting into the film’s fight choreography, crafting sequences that would require fast thinking and movement. “For me, “I really wanted it to be a more intimate kind of fighting experience if I needed to take somebody out.”

I have had a strong appreciation for the 1990 sci-fi action thriller I Come in Peace, which is also known by the title Dark Angel in some territories, ever since it first came out when I was a kid, and several of my cohorts here on JoBlo are fans of the film as well – with John “The Arrow” Fallon recommending it and Chris Bumbray calling it “The Best Christmas Action Movie You Never Saw.” So we’re excited to hear that Shout Factory will be giving the film a 4K release on July 9th – and if you’re also a fan of this movie and want to add the 4K release to your collection, it’s available for pre-order at This Link!

The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.
It was also the decade that saw audiences turn out in droves to theaters and rental stores to catch a glimpse of Steven Seagal’s flying fists in movies like Under Siege or Jean-Claude Van Damme and his trademark splits in Timecop; Jackie Chan finally got the larger American fanbase he so richly deserved thanks to the Rush Hour movies while Bruce Willis gave us Die Hard With A Vengeance, the best of all the Die Hard sequels, before pivoting...

Working on the science fiction series Dark Angel brought both Jensen Ackles and Jessica Alba their fair share of success, despite some ups and downs. Fox’s show, which starred Alba as super soldier Max Guevara escaping from government agents in a post-apocalyptic Seattle, was created by James Cameron and Charles H. Eglee and premiered in 2000.
During the second season, Ackles joined the show as Max’s fellow supersoldier, Alec McDowell (X5-494). The actors engaged in a lot of fighting during Dark Angel’s action sequences, but Ackles maintained that the tension between them was even greater off-screen.

Lily Gladstone has made Oscar history.
On Tuesday morning Gladstone was nominated in the Lead Actress category, making her the first ever Native woman of American descent to be nominated in this category.
If she wins, she will be the first indigenous actress to do so in this category.
In Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, Gladstone portrays Mollie Burkhart, an oil-rich Osage woman married to Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio), the nephew of an influential rancher. When her Osage Nation family and friends are systematically murdered, and her own health fails dramatically, a murder investigation ensues, led by the then-nascent FBI.
Earlier this month, Gladstone who is of Piegan Blackfeet and Nez Perce heritage, made Golden Globe history too, as she became the first indigenous woman to win Best Actress. In her acceptance speech she said, “This is for every little rez kid, every little urban kid, every little...

Some people might prefer to watch Peanuts or Love Actually at this time of year. All I want is this underrated and bizarre action film
There’s always a lot of conversation at this time of year surrounding what does and does not constitute a Christmas movie. For some folks, only James Stewart appreciating the joy of existence in It’s a Wonderful Life will do. Others want to watch the Peanuts gang in A Charlie Brown Christmas. Personally, I want to watch Dolph Lundgren fight an alien drug dealer and kick people in the face in Dark Angel.
This 1990 action film is an underrated piece of festive lunacy with an extremely fun if slightly overcomplicated plot, but there are a lot of stunts and explosions to smooth things over. If you doubt its festive credentials, the opening scene involves a guy crashing his car into a Christmas tree lot.

I Come in Peace… You Go in Pieces!
So goes one of the coolest one-liners I have ever heard, and it’s part of one of the most unheralded Christmas action movies ever. Now, Christmas action movies have always been a thing. Something about the juxtaposition of the holidays and ultra-violent action has always been irresistible to Hollywood. In movies like First Blood and To Live and Die in LA, the holiday theme makes the desperately violent scenario all the more grim. At the same time, other classics like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard ultimately have Christmas messages about friendship and family that come through just as strongly as in a straight-up Christmas movie like It’s a Wonderful Life.
Yet, not every Christmas action flick becomes a classic, which brings me to this special Christmas edition of The Best Movie You Never Saw, where we tackle the Dolph Lundgren Actioner I Come In Peace,...

‘Tis the season to watch holiday-themed horror, so we here at Arrow in the Head have decided to compile a list of the Best Christmas Horror Movies! All of the films below are, at the very least, set around Christmastime, and some of them take the connection to the holidays further than that. Here are the top 12 horror movies that we recommend checking out over the next week:

Movie maker James Cameron was decades away from creating the Avatar franchise while he was developing the TV show Dark Angel. But working on the television series had an unforeseen influence on Avatar down the line.
How ‘Dark Angel’ was already influencing ‘Avatar’ twenty years before the movie franchise James Cameron | Chung Sung-Jun/Getty Images
Cameron decided to explore the small screen in the year 2000 with the Fox sci-fi series Dark Angel. The show offered Jessica Alba her big break, and featured other familiar faces like NCIS’ Michael Weatherly and Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles. Dark Angel saw Alba playing a genetically enhanced superhuman in a futuristic scene with a somewhat similar tone to Terminator. One of the reasons he took the story to TV instead of film was because producing television offered more creative energy.

In 2005 and in 2007, director Tim Story made a pair of feature films starring the Fantastic Four, one of Marvel Comics' most superlative titles. "Fantastic Four," created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, was more or less a family sitcom except the three family members and their best friend all happened to have superpowers. It was light and comedic, while also featuring bloviating, demonstrative supervillains who shouted regularly about the glories of world domination. It was a comic book series that declared itself to be The World's Greatest Comics Magazine!

Actress Jessica Alba has reflected on her past style decisions. In a new TikTok clip shared by Bobbi Althoff, the podcaster talked to the actress, 42, about having an “awkward phase” while growing up.
As the video started, Althoff, 26, insisted Alba had skipped her “awkward phase” while the actress stated that the assumption was incorrect, reports ‘People’ magazine.
Still, Althoff felt that the ‘Dark Angel’ alum had the liberty of missing out on “a normal person’s awkward stage.”
“If I showed you pictures of me when I’m saying awkward, you would be like – you would look at me differently,” the host claimed.
Alba then shed light on how she actually got an early start on the so-called cringe rite of passage. “It’s so weird that I started using a curling iron and hairspray at age, like, five,” she confessed. “And no wonder I had so much asthma.”

"Star Trek" was the undisputed king of sci-fi television in the 1990s, but it lost that crown in the 2000s; prequel series "Star Trek: Enterprise" ended the franchise's reign with an abbreviated four season run (2001 to 2005). Different shows won the hearts of online fandom, including two contemporaries of "Enterprise" — "Futurama" and "Firefly."
The legacy of "Firefly" far outlasted its 14 episode run; fan demand led to the creation of the finale movie "Serenity" in 2005. Meanwhile, "Futurama" enjoyed a respectable 72 episode run from 1999 to 2003, but enduring popularity has revived it twice, first from 2007 to 2013, and again for a new season which premiered this summer. Short length doesn't mean a show will be forgotten, especially when the Internet can sustain a fandom like never before.
As detailed in "Star Trek" oral history book "The Fifty Year Mission" by Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman, these three shows intertwined in an episode of miscommunication and Hollywood office politics.

The 1990s were an exciting period for action films, with many of them getting released direct-to-video and showing up seemingly randomly at local video stores, requiring fans of the genre to have memberships at multiple locations to get to see everything. There was so much that if attention wasn’t paid, titles would be missed easily or rented twice under different titles at different video stores. Stars emerged within those ranks and gathered the love and adoration of fans. Here are the 10 of the best Dtv action stars of that era:
Dolph Lundgren
Let’s start with the obvious man on the list, the one that everyone saw films from at their local video stores. Lundgren had films that were released in theaters, on video, and direct to cable in some cases during the 1990s, but one thing is for sure, he was a mainstay of the action film aisle...

Marvel’s mid-2000s Fantastic Four films once featured Jessica Alba as The invisible Woman. But Alba wanted to do a bit more for her character by sabotaging her looks for the part.

Alba was already excited to star in the 2005 superhero film. What originally drew her to the film was how different the script was from other movies that floated her way. Fantastic Four was a welcome change to the kinds of unflattering parts she was being offered.
“The scripts I get are always for the whore, the motorcycle chick in leather or the horny maid,” Alba once told Glock (via Campus Circle). “I get all these screenplays that start, ‘Tawnya is in the shower. The water streams down her naked, perky breasts.’ I don’t think this is happening to Natalie Portman.

Not many horror films truly scare me these days. But alien horror? Even the ones substandard to most send me into a fear frenzy. That’s why I’m taking a deep dive into the sub-genre.

Jessica Alba harnessed her own superpower to thwart unwanted sexual advances.
The “Fantastic Four” alum addressed her sexualization as the star of James Cameron’s “Dark Angel” series in 2000. Alba was 19 years old at the time. The show ran for two seasons before concluding in 2002, with Alba going on to star in films “Sin City” and “Honey.”
“I guess I understood that I needed to help sell the product. And they sell it how they do, so I understood it as a business decision and a strategy,” Alba said during the “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” talk show. “And so I was able to distance myself from it. But I guess, you know, you can’t change other people’s minds about what they may or may not think of you.”
She continued, “I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with owning your sexuality. I just frankly was definitely not that person.

Jessica Alba said on a recent episode of HBO Max and CNN’s “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” that she adopted a more masculine persona as a teenager and young adult in Hollywood in order to deliberately avoid being preyed upon by various Hollywood predators. Alba started acting at age 13 and landed her breakthrough role as Max Guevara on Fox’s “Dark Angel” when she was 19 years old. The James Cameron-created series made Alba both a feminist TV icon of the early 2000s and a sex symbol.
“I guess I understood that I needed to help sell the product,” Alba told Wallace when asked if it bothered her how the media objectified her as a sex symbol. “And they sell it how they do so I understood it as a business decision and a strategy. The general public or television viewer might not understand the full magnitude that it takes to create an entire episode of television, let alone a full season or complete series. That’s what makes it all the more impressive that great shows continue to debut year after year with countless members of Hollywood doing everything they can to give their audiences great content. But even with so many people trying to contribute and create something astounding, there are always speed-bumps and dead-ends that the creators might run into, causing the show to end sooner than expected and well before fans are ready to say goodbye.

When the trailer for Violent Night hit, people were excited to check out this new Christmas action film. They were excited by the idea of setting an action film during the holiday season. While that’s great, it’s not a new concept. There have been some great action holiday movies for decades. No, we’re not talking about Jingle All The Way. It’s always a great time to drink some hot chocolate and watch some stuff blow up or someone gets punched in the face while Christmas lights twinkle in the background.
Santa’s Slay (2005)
This one could fall into more of a horror category, but the action is what makes it the most fun. If the opening scene doesn’t get you excited, then you obviously don’t love Christmas. Hall Of Fame wrestler Bill Goldberg plays Santa like you’ve never seen him.

[Editor’s note: The following story contains some spoilers for “Avatar: The Way of Water.”]
James Cameron is a consistent over-achiever. He works overtime to create movies that make audiences happy. He tries to stimulate their pleasure center. And he wants to lure them back for repeat viewings.
Released 13 years after the original, Cameron’s “Avatar” sequel, “The Way of Water,” cost so much (350-400 million) that the filmmaker estimates it has to gross 2 billion to make a profit. (It’s among the most expensive films ever made.) But that’s why Cameron cares so much about crafting a four-quadrant movie that plays to the widest possible audience.
Just like “Titanic” 25 years ago — which stayed in theaters for a year and wound up grossing a global 2.202 billion over time — and the original “Avatar” — which grossed a mighty 2.9 billion worldwide — “The Way of Water” is accessible, sincerely romantic, and packed with action.

Producer-director David Nutter testified at the Harvey Weinstein trial, called by the prosecution to corroborate details of an accuser’s story.
Nutter, best known as Emmy-winning executive producer and director of ‘Game of Thrones’, came up earlier this week in the trial when a woman accusing Weinstein of rape told the jury that she confided in Nutter after she was allegedly assaulted by Weinstein, reports Variety.
She said that Nutter was the first person she told about the incident in question.
Nutter was working with the model and actor – who is known in the case as Natassia M. – on a commercial in 2007 or 2008. During his testimony, Nutter said that Natassia M. is now a friend and someone he has mentored in the industry. He had hired her on a few shows throughout the years, including ‘Dark Angel’.
In Oct. 2009, Natassia M. called Nutter to disclose her encounter with Weinstein in London.
