At a New York cocktail party before the premiere, Sigourney Weaver was upbeat when asked about her nude appearance in the movie. Weaver said she was comfortable doing the scenes with costar David Strathairn (who plays her husband) because they depicted real-life situations. "We're naked," she told PEOPLE, "but I wouldn't call them nude scenes. We're getting in and out of bed. Big deal," she said, her voice rising an octave.
The film cast includes two Oscar® winners: Julianne Moore and Louise Fletcher; and four Oscar® nominees: David Strathairn, Sigourney Weaver, Chloë Sevigny and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.
Film critic Roger Ebert gave the film three and a half out of four stars, praising the performances, and likening it to such movies as Being John Malkovich (1999) and Three Kings (1999) in "being free -in being capable of taking any turn at any moment, without the need to follow tired conventions."
Both Julianne Moore and Arliss Howard appeared together in the movie The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
