Drew Barrymore is an American sweetheart. The actress has been working in front of the camera since she was a child, having made her debut with Altered States in 1980. And two years later, Barrymore found her breakthrough in Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Then in the ’90s and 2000s, she became the rom-com queen with hit after hits, especially because of her chemistry with Adam Sandler.

Drew Barrymore went in a different direction in the ’90s, as the long-time star has now confirmed that she once opted to play Cinderella instead of a porn star. The actress recently shared on an episode of her eponymous talk show “The Drew Barrymore Show” (via The Hollywood Reporter) that she did in fact turn down a role in “Boogie Nights.” Barrymore has long been rumored to have been considered for the Rollergirl part, which later went to Heather Graham.
“It’s so hard when you, like, are thinking of doing a film and then you don’t end up doing it,” Barrymore said. “I have so many of those experiences. I’ve never said this out loud, ‘Boogie Nights.’ There was a moment where we were talking about ‘Boogie Nights’ and I think it’s when I went and did ‘Ever After’ [‘A Cinderella Story’] and I went in a very different direction.

Drew Barrymore revealed on a recent episode of her daytime talk show that she was told to dial her performance back during the making of the 1999 romantic comedy “Never Been Kissed.” Barrymore starred in the film as Josie, an insecure copy editor who has never had a real relationship. The movie was notable for Barrymore as it marked the first official title under her Flower Films production banner.
“At that time, people were very weary of actors being producers,” Barrymore said. “A lot of it wasn’t necessarily working, and it didn’t mean because you were an actor, you knew how to produce the film. And it was about the economics. So if you didn’t make the film work, and you produced it as an actor, you are likely to not be able to do it again.”

Drew Barrymore is reflecting back on 20th Century Fox’s initial reaction to Never Been Kissed.
The actress-producer and talk-show host was joined by Hey, Dude…The ’90s Called! hosts Christine Taylor and David Lascher on Friday’s Drew Barrymore Show, where she recalled how the rom-com marked a big milestone for the actress, as it was the first project made under her own production company, Flower Films.
With her venture behind the camera while also being the film’s star, there was a lot of pressure on Barrymore for the film to succeed.
“Never Been Kissed was very interesting because it was our first official film for Flower Films. For most performers, building up a resume of over 150 projects is something that takes an entire lifetime to achieve, but for James Franco that is a feat he has accomplished at just 45 years old. This Freaky Geek was catapulted to fame in one of biggest comic book franchises of all time before settling in to his role as a performer who can take on any genre and any film no matter how big or small. But with a tremendous rise at such a young age, sometimes you don’t make the best decisions. For Franco, those bad decisions would come to light on the very night of his greatest professional achievement and begin a downfall that is sadly all too common in today’s world. At one point putting out up to 12 projects a year, Franco has taken a backseat as allegations against him began to pile up. It is...

The 48-year-old actress split from Will Kopelman – with whom she has Olive, 11, and nine-year-old Frankie – in 2016 after four years of marriage and has been single ever since but has tried her luck on the dating app and was left unsure what to make of the situation when it turned out the man was actually a musician, reports Female First UK.
Speaking on her self-titled chat show, she said: “Every time I get on there it does not feel great. I always last five days. And this time my app has changed where it shows people like you so it’s very flattering… but I don’t know who anyone is and it just feels scary to go out with a stranger.

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Ravenous was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Victoria Verduzco, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
1999, a year of hope, a year of high fashion, nooo, no… 1999, the year when people prepared for Y2K, the year of all the odd choices when it came to fashion, and the year of interesting cinematic options. We got The Mummy which gave us all the hot cast members we could ask for and still gives us memes, we got End of Days, Stigmata, Idle Hands, House on Haunted Hill, The Haunting, Stir of Echoes, and The Blair Witch Project. It was a year for surprising hits, shocking failures, and offbeat horror films. So many smaller budgets did so well. Also out in 1999 was this movie about cannibalism in the olden days of the United States,...

In 2005 and in 2007, director Tim Story made a pair of feature films starring the Fantastic Four, one of Marvel Comics' most superlative titles. "Fantastic Four," created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, was more or less a family sitcom except the three family members and their best friend all happened to have superpowers. It was light and comedic, while also featuring bloviating, demonstrative supervillains who shouted regularly about the glories of world domination. It was a comic book series that declared itself to be The World's Greatest Comics Magazine!
Story's feature film adaptations were not very well received when they were released. 2005's "Fantastic Four" only bears a 28% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while its sequel, "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," only has a 38% approval rating. Moreso, Marvel Comics fans were harsh to Story's movies, hating their cartoony tone and corny scripts. It's worth acknowledging, however, that Story's...

When Kim Davis-Wagner and Justine Arteta signed on to cast the television adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s blockbuster rock ’n’ roll novel Daisy Jones & The Six, they knew they were up against the pressure of re-creating the magic of a beloved piece of IP — but they were also up against A Star Is Born. The Lady Gaga-starring musical drama hit theaters in 2018, and the industry was still captivated with the idea of seeing pop stars on the big screen. “The thinking was, there have to be other musicians [like Lady Gaga] who could be that good at acting,” says Arteta. “We knew that was possible, but really rare.”

If anyone could have saved the studio comedy, it might have been Jennifer Lawrence. But if the uneven sex comedy “No Hard Feelings” is Hollywood’s best effort, it’s not looking good for either one. Starring Lawrence as a broadly sketched caricature of an emotionally stunted, sexually liberated thirtysomething struggling to stay afloat, “No Hard Feelings” tries to resurrect the messy white woman trope that worked so well in films like “Young Adult” and “Trainwreck.” Though by no means a guarantee, there’s a crucial difference between those movies and “No Hard Feelings” — actual women wrote them.
Though Lawrence, who is also an executive producer of the movie, is working overtime to make the stilted and over-the-top humor work, director Gene Stupnitsky (co-writing with John Phillips) seems far more interested in trying to invert conventional gendered comedy tropes. Since she first appeared in "E.T." when she was just 7 years old, Drew Barrymore has been a beloved fixture in the entertainment industry. Films like "Never Been Kissed" and "Charlie's Angels" solidified her star power, and she's started a new chapter as the host of "The Drew Barrymore Show," which kicked off in September 2020.
Over the years, Drew's candid, vulnerable conversation style has helped her interviews stand out on her talk show. She's been able to connect with people like Brooke Shields about the sexualization they both faced as child stars, and in particular, Drew's openness about the struggles she faced with her parents during her youth has allowed her to bond with stars with similar backgrounds, like Jennette McCurdy.

Barrymore appeared in the segment dressed her character from the 1999 romantic comedy directed by Raja Gosnell sporting braces and a scrunchie.

At the time, the host of “The Drew Barrymore Show” said she pulled out of the event “in solidarity with the strike.” MTV likely planned to accompany Barrymore’s hosting duties with a batch of sketches that put the beloved stars into some of the biggest shows and movies of the past year. But watching the clips sans-Barrymore-as-host was still fun.

Although the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards didn’t go as initially planned after pivoting from a live ceremony to a pretaped one, the show was still full of memorable moments. From Drew Barrymore making appearances in hit TV shows and movies to Tom Cruise accepting an award from a fighter pilot jet, here are some of the night’s most memorable moments.

The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards featured merely a handful of explicit references to the ongoing writers strike but the non-live event clearly looked different.
The show featured numerous pretaped segments and acceptance speeches and clips both from upcoming movies and TV shows and previous editions of the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Additionally the show, awards categories and nominees and winners were announced via a voiceover, which initially referred to the event as the “2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards special.”
Host Drew Barrymore, who announced Wednesday that she wouldn’t be hosting this year’s edition of the awards in person out of solidarity with the striking writers, appeared in a couple of pretaped sketches near the top of the show, filmed before she withdrew from her role as live emcee.
Barrymore kicked off the show in a pretaped opening inspired by her 1999 movie Never Been Kissed, dressed as her Josie Geller character in her ’80s,...

Scream VI was named best movie on Sunday night at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, which pivoted at the last minute from live to pretaped due to the writers strike,
The film also won best fight for Courteney Cox (as Gale Weathers) and the killer Ghostface, the latter of whom accepted both awards via pretaped video.
Accepting best movie, Ghostface quipped that there is finally an answer to the question, “What is your favorite scary movie?” — a reference to a classic line of dialogue from the franchise.
The Last of Us also was a big winner, taking three awards, including best show. Star Pedro Pascal was named best hero, while he and Bella Ramsey also were named best duo. Stranger Things won two awards.
The show was held amid the ongoing writers strike, which led host Drew Barrymore to drop out in a show of support for the striking scribes.

The writers strike upended producers’ plans for its 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, and the Golden Popcorn was a bit tarnished as a result, but the awards show still delivered some viral-worthy moments. Here are some of the best: Josie Geller returns Sunday’s show opened with a sketch in which former host Drew Barrymore once again played Josie from Never Been Kissed, looking for love on the sets of Smile, Nope, Wednesday, The White Lotus, M3GAN, and Top Gun: Maverick, before getting it on with an unusual scene partner. The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards went on with a pretaped ceremony amid the writers strike and talent pulling out in support of the movement.
Drew Barrymore dropped out of hosting duties earlier this week and pledged to return next year. Barrymore had already pretaped the opening segment of the show where she was inserted in scenes from films like Cocaine Bear, M3GAN, and Top Gun: Maverick, as well as TV shows like The White Lotus, all while dressed as her Never Been Kissed character Josie Gellar.
Pedro Pascal took the first golden popcorn trophy of the night for his role in The Last of Us.
“I wish we could all be together so that I could look into your eyes and tell you that all the young people in the world are my heroes and I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you,” he said in his acceptance speech.

The premise was simple enough: A no-nonsense, non-conformist, feminine “guy’s girl” journalist sets out to make a man fall in love with her — all for the sake of a big break at work. When “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” hit theaters on February 7, 2003, the Kate Hudson- and Matthew McConaughey-starring romantic comedy ushered in a new generation of a revived rom-com sub-genre: quippy romances all about female journalists.
In the Donald Petrie film, Andie Anderson (Hudson) half-jokingly pitches the idea of using all the “what not to do” tips of Composure, the Cosmo-esque fastest growing women’s magazine she works at, to prove the opposite: being disinterested and not clingy works better to land a husband, or better yet, find true love. Kathryn Hahn is her unlucky-in-love coworker whose exploits inspire Andie’s approach to a new lifestyle feature article, while Bebe Neuwirth is her...

When something is labeled as "based on a true story," they tend to lean toward epic war heroes, an uplifting sports victory, or the doom and gloom of a gruesome murder. But that isn't always the case -- the likes of "The Farewell," "Van Wilder," and "Almost Famous" are exceptions to the rule. These are all films that are relatively light-hearted and yet were inspired by real life.
Speaking of "Almost Famous," before Cameron Crowe told the semi-autobiographical story of a young journalist traveling with a band and learning about life on the road in the entertainment industry, he penned the seminal coming-of-age teen movie "Fast Times At Ridgemont High." Wanting to put an extra emphasis on the "true" part of this true story, the then-22-year-old music journalist pulled a "Never Been Kissed" -- two decades before that Drew Barrymore-led movie was a thing -- and went undercover...

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.
This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.
The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

Since “The Drew Barrymore Show” premiered in 2020, the talk show hosted by the beloved star of “Santa Clarita Diet” and “E.T.” has attracted headlines for dozens of bizarre, often borderline absurdist segments — such as the time Barrymore interviewed the cast of “Dear Evan Hansen” while (somewhat inexplicably) in character as Josie Geller, the lead of her 1999 romantic comedy “Never Been Kissed.” Now, that interview has received an unofficial followup with Wednesday’s show, where Barrymore invited Allison Williams into the studio by dressing as the main character from the “Girls” star’s most recent film, the horror hit “M3gan.”

Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore and Corey Feldman are taking a walk down memory lane. It was a joyous reunion for the pair, who haven’t seen each other in 25 years, when Feldman, 51, appeared on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’, where he and the host reminisced about when they briefly dated as teenagers, reports ‘People’ magazine.
“We partied, we didn’t party,” Barrymore, 47, said of their history as Feldman quipped: “We got sober together, we got un-sober together. We were literally kids,” Feldman added, noting that he was between 12 and 13 and she was 10 or 11 when they first met.
As per ‘People’, Feldman had to jog her memory about their first date, decades after the former child stars made their breakout performances in the films of Steven Spielberg, who is also Barrymore’s godfather.

David Arquette and Elizabeth Marvel are the latest additions to the cast of Damon Lindelof and Tara Hernandez’s Peacock drama series “Mrs. Davis.” In addition, Alethea Jones has boarded the series to executive produce and to direct multiple episodes.
Arquette and Marvel will recur in the series, joining previously announced cast members Betty Gilpin, Jake McDorman, Andy McQueen, Ben Chaplin and Margo Martindale. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, aside from the fact the show is described as an exploration of faith versus technology. It was previously reported that Gilpin will play a nun who battles an artificial intelligence in the show.
Arquette is known for his role in the “Scream” film franchise, having recently starred in the fifth film that was released in January 2022. His other film roles include “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Ready to Rumble,” “Never Been Kissed,” and “Airheads.” He was also the subject...

Rebel Wilson has opened up about a former assault by an unnamed male co-star. The “Pitch Perfect” alum called the encounter “awful and disgusting” when reflecting on the attack, which occurred before the rise of the #MeToo movement.
“He called me into a room and pulled down his pants,” Wilson explained to People, saying that, in front of his friends, the co-star asked her to perform a lewd act.
“It was awful and disgusting,” Wilson continued. “And all the behavior afterwards — this was all before #MeToo — where they kind of tried to destroy me and my career. If it had happened after #MeToo, then I could have just blasted them.”
Wilson, who has a law degree, added that she “documented” the assault. “I called my rep. I got certain things in writing about what happened,” the “Hustle” star said. “Definitely amongst industry circles, I made sure people knew what happened.

It stands to reason that Stephanie Conway, the Aussie outcast at the center of Alex Hardcastle’s “Senior Year” would have seen “Never Been Kissed.” Released in 1999 — almost exactly when Hardcastle’s film starts — Drew Barrymore’s high school rom-com followed a well-meaning, dorky kid as she embarks on a do-over after a humiliating teen experience. Such is also the case in “Senior Year,” which
Teenage Stephanie isn’t popular as a freshman, encountering a major freeze-out from “The Populars” who have no use for an eager-to-please Australian dweeb. But, oh, Stephanie dreams of being popular too, eventually making it happen through sheer force of will and by 2002, she’s the the queen bee of her senior year. There’s some problems — her dead mom, friends from her dork days who still love her, a jealous rival determined to usurp her — but nothing beats the big trauma: cheer captain Stephanie...

A miscast lead is one of many issues plaguing a broad and unfunny attempt to recapture the spirit of films like Never Been Kissed and Mean Girls
The spirit of sparky high school comedies, from Never Been Kissed to Mean Girls to Easy A, haunts Netflix’s junky “if you like…” offering Senior Year, with a progressively deafening reminder of what came before. For where those films had charm, wit and vim, this has a stultifying absence instead, a disappointing and derivative two-hour slog down memory lane.
It at least looks like the movies it desperately wants to be grouped together with, a quick tip-off to its origins, made by Paramount before being off-loaded to Netflix. British director Alex Hardcastle, best known for sitcom work, does an impressive job of fooling us into thinking we’re in safe hands with a slick and poppy aesthetic before the script, from Andrew Knauer,...
