Two decades have passed since the last episode of Friends aired, but its impact remains irrefutable. The series finale on May 6, 2004, marked the end of an era for television, boasting a staggering 65.9 million viewers glued to their screens as they bid farewell to Ross, Rachel, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe. “The Last Supper” before taping “The Last One” on Jan 23, 2004. #tbt #friends,” Cox wrote in the caption for the snap, sharing a second photo of the script for the show’s last-ever episode. We’ve only just got Easter out of the way, and here comes the most immersive Christmas movie of the year, an abstract but very much controlled study based in and around a festive party thrown by a very large family from Long Island, New York. Despite the specificity of the setting, however, Tyler Taormina’s third feature film is a surprisingly relatable experience, part anthropological study, part nostalgia kick, lit up (literally) like a Christmas tree in a yuletide riot of red, white and green.
It begins in a car ferrying members of the Balsano family — mother and father, brother and sister — to the home of the family’s matriarch, where four generations of Balsanos have gathered for their annual get-together. This is about as much of a set-up as you’re going to get,...

Universal Pictures has tapped renowned British filmmaker Andrew Haigh (All of Us Strangers) to write and direct a Leonardo da Vinci film based on Walter Isaacson’s bestselling 2017 biography of the artist, Deadline can confirm.
Based on thousands of pages from Da Vinci’s notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, the biography looks to connect his art to his science, showing how Leonardo’s genius was based on skills we can improve in ourselves, such as passionate curiosity, careful observation, and an imagination so playful that it flirted with fantasy.
An icon of the Italian Renaissance, Da Vinci was not only a prolific painter but also a polymath excelling in various fields including science, engineering, and anatomy. His masterpieces, the “Mona Lisa,” and “The Last Supper” are among the most recognizable and influential works of art in history.
Christopher Hampton wrote a previous draft of the Da Vinci script.

Jon Stewart used the April 22 episode of “The Daily Show” to eviscerate the media for giving way too much attention to Donald Trump’s ongoing hush money trial. The host said the legal battle is both “a test of the fairness of the American legal system” and “a test of the media’s ability to cover Donald Trump in a responsible way.” Stewart determined that the media is failing when it comes to the latter.
Throwing to footage from across cable news networks, including MSNBC host Chris Hayes proclaiming this is “the trial of the century” and various media outlets reporting on Trump’s trips to the courthouse in detail, Stewart fired back: “Perhaps, if we limit the coverage to the issues at hand, and try not to create an all-encompassing spectacle of the most banal of details, perhaps that would help?”
“Seriously, are we going to follow this guy to court every fucking day?...

Who’s more stubborn, Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) or Ada Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino)? Thankfully, there’s another voice (of reason) present when the two cross paths in the February 8 episode of Law & Order: Organized Crime. Svu‘s Scanavino guest stars as part of the Los Santos case (they’re the biggest providers of fentanyl on the Eastern seaboard) in “The Last Supper.” When he sees Stabler in TV Insider’s exclusive clip, his immediate reaction is, “What are you doing here?” But as Stabler sees it, there shouldn’t be a problem. “What do you mean, what am I doing here? It’s my case,” he says. (He started off the season undercover.) ‘That’s exactly why you can’t be here right now. You were undercover with Los Santos, you played a role in their father’s death. You shouldn’t be anywhere near this family,...

It’s just another day on the mean streets of Judea circa 33 A.D., where people hang out on sunbaked corners talking smack, working-class stiffs scramble to get by, and Roman centurions — the LAPD of their day — stop and frisk anyone who they feel matches the description of a suspect. (As in: anyone that does not look like a white Roman centurion.) Netflix's latest movie is the epic drama "Society of the Snow," directed by J.A. Bayona. The Spanish-language drama is based on the Andes tragedy (also referred to as the Andes miracle) of 1972, wherein a charter plane carrying 45 people — including members of a Uruguayan rugby team — crashed in the Andes mountains, leaving the survivors stranded in an extremely harsh environment for 72 days. This is a story that has fascinated people around the world for decades, inspiring three movies, many documentaries, and serving as the inspiration for "Yellowjackets."
Most adaptations tend to focus on the more sensationalist aspect of the tale: cannibalism. The first feature film based on the tragedy was a Mexican exploitation movie, and arguably the most famous film is the American production "Alive," directed by Frank Marshall and featuring a whitewashed cast that included Ethan Hawke. That movie turned the story into an uplifting tale of survival, more...

There was a lot of speculation that Season 2 would be And Just Like That…’s last. Some have been speculating the series coming to an end ever since the promotional poster for the season was released — The Last Supper imagery, some argued, meant that this was it for Carrie and gang. That reasoning was carried over when the final two episodes of the season both had the exact words “The Last Supper” in their titles.
Kim Cattrall’s highly anticipated (but ultimately out of place) cameo also seemed to signal some sort of big ending. Knowing how adamant the actress was to never return to the series, it felt like she was maybe given a detail about the entire franchise coming to an end to entice her back one more time.

‘And Just Like That’ Season 2 Embraces Chaos and Forsakes Sanity in an Encouraging Finale — Spoilers
[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “And Just Like That” Season 2, Episode 11, “The Last Supper Part 2: Entrée.”]
“If you feel love, run after it.”
Carrie’s latest personal credo doesn’t just linger over the Season 2 finale; it’s spoken aloud to kick off the episode. In case viewers forgot how head over Manolo Blahnik heels our former Shoe Gal is for Aidan (John Corbett), episode writer and director Michael Patrick King features Carrie’s words of advice in the introductory “last time on…” montage. (Wisely left out: Aidan’s egregiously weepy phone call about his hospitalized son.) Fresh off the death of her first husband, Carrie is strapping on her most supportive flats and sprinting after whatever brings her joy. A five-bedroom apartment valued at the Gdp of Albania? She buys it. A teense kitten sure to destroy her Sjp-brand wallpaper (not to mention the cat’s namesake: all of Carrie’s shoes)? She adopts it.

Spoiler Alert: This column contains spoilers from “The Last Supper Part Two: Entrée,” the Season 2 finale of “And Just Like That,” now streaming on Max.
Before the second season of “And Just Like That” even premiered, we knew that Kim Cattrall would (briefly) return as her “Sex and the City” character Samantha Jones. The ratings rationale for bringing back such a beloved figure were obvious enough, but creatively, the move seemed oddly self-defeating. After an awkward start, the sequel series had finally started to establish its own identity. What was the point of reminding viewers what they were missing, let alone with a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo featuring no other cast members?
But to my great surprise, Cattrall’s appearance in the 11th and final episode of Season 2 was both effective and, against all odds, organic. The two-part finale, titled “The Last Supper,” was all about saying goodbye and paying tribute...

The tenth episode ended of And Just Like That Season 2 with Che and Miranda having an explosive confrontation about the jokes they made about their relationship. Aidan breaks down over his son’s accident and his inability to cater to his emotional needs. He feels he should have been there as a dad. Charlotte comes home drunk and confronts Harry and her kids about giving her some space to be herself outside of the family. Lisa unfortunately miscarries. As Carrie prepares to say goodbye to her old apartment, she invites all her friends one last time to celebrate the life she led in this place. We would love to know what happens when as many friends as possible descend on her place for “The Last Supper.”

Max officially renewed And Just Like That… ahead of its much-anticipated season two finale which will feature the return of Kim Cattrall as Samantha. Season two episode 11 – part two of “The Last Supper” – finally delivers the cameo fans of the original foursome have eagerly anticipated.
Even though Samatha won’t be sharing scenes with her former Sex and the City co-stars, Cattrall will be seen in a cameo, styled by Patricia Field and shot in secret. In an interview on Today with Hoda and Jenna, Kim Cattrall confirmed that shopping in Bergdorf’s and picking out a great outfit for her cameo felt like dipping her toe back in time and having a wonderful afternoon.
However, fans shouldn’t expect Kim Cattrall back for the just-announced third season. It seems this short cameo is a one-off and not a precursor to an extended return as Samantha.

The Netflix recommendation algorithm is a boundless and ineffable mystery. On any given day, it will reach randomly into the Netflix catalog and haul out a film many had kind of forgotten existed or perhaps never knew about, and get scads of subscribers to watch it. One might recall the time in April of 2023 when the not-particularly-beloved 2011 prequel-cum-remake of "The Thing" topped Netflix's popularity charts. More people saw it that month than perhaps watched it in theaters.
The latest popular surprise from Netflix comes in the form of Bartosz M. Don't feel bad if you hadn't heard of "Hellhole" prior to this; few have. It's only by the caprices of Netflix that it now arrives in the public eye.

Brace yourself for a broken record.
How can this show keep getting better and better when it's so good already? On Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episode 5, the hits start right off the bat, and they just keep coming.
Everyone on screen and behind the scenes is a master of their craft. It's that simple, folks!
Tituss Burgess gives us a sinister Sweeney-esque recap of where we're at with our various plotlines, and even though he's fantastic here, it can't compare to his big number that comes a little later in the episode.
Melissa has truly come into her own, and Cecily Strong is there right along with her.
Dropping the Funny Girl costume (and schtick), Strong goes full-on torch singer with "My Turn Now," an homage to the magnificent "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret.
Vocally, she's never sounded better, which a strong belt and confident mixed voice that soars. No wonder the audience loves her!

Last night’s Saturday Night Live featured their own version of Easter, which showed former president Donald Trump attending Jesus’s Last Supper.
Poking fun at Trump’s recent indictment, SNL’s opening sketch featured Jesus, played by Mikey Day, gathering his apostles for an important conversation before being overshadowed by their unexpected guest.
“One of you will betray me,” Day said as Jesus. “And though I have committed no crime, I will be arrested, tried and found guilty,” Jesus continued before Judas, played by Molly Kearney, responded in disbelief “What?” as the other apostles gasped.

Molly Shannon may not be one of the first names you think of when reflecting on "Saturday Night Live" legends, but she should be. She's one of the few cast members to see a recurring character given their own movie, and although it's not one of the late night sketch shows better big screen productions, it's hard to deny that Mary Katherine Gallagher is one of the most famous and beloved characters from the show's history.
However, those hoping to see Mary Katherine Gallagher return in the latest episode of "SNL" walked away disappointed, because the character only returned by way of two aside references rather than a full blown sketch revival. Instead, Shannon opted to bring back one of her other famous recurring bits with a little help from musical guests, the Jonas Brothers. Premiering the night before Easter, the latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” opened with a serene image of the sketch show cast members sitting at a long table, perfectly costumed and positioned to parallel Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.” But the tranquility was short-lived with the arrival of cast member James Austin Johnson, who took over the cold open by telling the story of Easter as a monologue delivered by Donald Trump.
Last week’s episode also opened with a Trump spoof after the former president was indicted by a grand jury. On April 4, Trump pled not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records. His arrest and arraignment made him the first president in U.S. history to ever be charged with a crime after leaving office. And this milestone was also addressed with this week’s cold open.

Today we bring in the great Mitchell Beaupre to discuss our final Listener’s Choice ‘22 pick: Cameron Diaz. Our B-Sides are: The Last Supper, The Invisible Circus, The Box, and Gambit.
We chat about Diaz’s underrated range, her penchant for taking risks, the stratospheric, star-making entrance in her first movie The Mask, and the similarities she shares with recent B-Side subject Michelle Pfeiffer.
Mitchell, Conor, and I discuss how weirdly great Any Given Sundayis (and how great Diaz is in it!), how well those Charlie’s Angels movies have aged, and that whole Green Hornet moment.

Mark Harmon, or special agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs in a longtime role on CBS’s NCIS series, has signed with Gersh.
Harmon originated his Gibbs character with a guest appearance on Jag before being spun off to lead NCIS, a role he played on the CBS procedural for nearly two decades before signing off from his final case in 2021. Going into the ninth season, he was promoted to executive producer on NCIS and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In the 11th season, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Harmon worked closely with showrunner Gary Glasberg on a special two-episode arc that reunited the Gibbs character with an old comrade working a case in New Orleans. Those episodes became the pilot for NCIS: Nola, also known as NCIS: New Orleans, with Harmon serving as executive producer on the spinoff.

“I know I come across as quite confident,” says newswoman Philomena Cunk, “but sometimes when I’m talking to experts, I worry that, you know, I might come across as quite stupid.”
This is easily the most self-aware moment for Cunk throughout the five-episode British mockumentary series Cunk on Earth, which began streaming on Netflix this week. As played by Diane Morgan, Cunk is a naive simpleton who can barely grasp any of the subjects she discusses, filtering everything through an extremely narrow and modern lens. As she attempts to...

Nobody would want their sexts entered into the public record, and thankfully, most of us will never suffer that humiliation. But if you’re Adam Levine, the married frontman of Maroon 5 who “crossed the line” (his words) in conversations with Instagram model Sumner Stroh, you might reasonably expect those lewd messages to leak at some point. And here we are.
Stroh, who claims she and Levine carried on an affair for about a year (which he denies), on Monday shared screenshots of their risqué Instagram DMs via her TikTok account.

Like the enigmatic Leonardo da Vinci himself, this lavish limited series Leonardo starring Poldark’s Aidan Turner as the High Renaissance artist, inventor and scientist is many things: a biopic of an insatiably curious and obsessively driven genius with abandonment issues; a platonic love story between the man and the model listed only as “da Cremona” in historical records; and, in a delicious twist, a fictional murder mystery. As the story starts, Leonardo is arrested for the poisoning of Caterina da Cremona (Matilda De Angelis) in Milan. Officer Stefano Giraldi (Freddie Highmore), under pressure to get a confession, begins interrogating Leonardo about his life and work — taking us back 16 years to his apprenticeship in Florence. (Credit: Fabio Lovino/Lux Vide/Sony Pictures Television) For show cocreators Frank Spotnitz and Steve Thompson, Giraldi is a proxy for viewers who may not think they care about the painter behind the Mona Lisa and The Last Supper.

Adventure Game Comics: Leviathan
By Jason Shiga
144 pages/Amulet Books/14.99
Jason Shiga has been keeping readers guessing since his first Choose Your Own Adventure book, 2001’s The Last Supper. He’s gone on to produce similar works, including a wonderful maze for the cover of McSweeney’s. He’s back with a new one, Leviathan, aimed for 8-12-year-olds.
This time we’re taken on an odyssey across the Cobalt Isles as you attempt to defeat the dreaded Leviathan. These types of stories are hard enough to do as prose, made more complicated by making these graphics. Each page offers two to four options, keying you to go to the appropriate page. It’s cleverly constructed although you find yourself doing more page flipping than actual reading. This being a hardcover helps with the wear and tear. You may find yourself going back to the same page one once so familiarity can quickly occur.

There are not as many new films being made and some completed films are holding out until 2021 to make their festival premiere, but there’s no shortage of new restorations coming to film festivals soon. Cannes recently revealed their Classics lineup of titles screening this fall and hopefully coming to discs in the near future, and now it is Venice’s turn.

The full lineup for the 77th Venice Film Festival will be announced on July 28. In the meantime, organizers have set the roster of restored titles that will make up the Venice Classics section which, unconventionally this year, will be hosted as part of the Cinema Ritrovato Festival in Bologna, Italy from August 25-31 in a show of solidarity between the events. The selection, which includes works by Michelangelo Antonioni, Shôhei Imamura, Fritz Lang, Sidney Lumet, Jean-Pierre Melville, Nikita Mikhalkov and Martin Scorsese will then be screened in Venice in the following months.

One of the most reliable programming blocks on television belongs to Fox Sunday’s back-to-back animated shows, each of them a family comedy with its own specific tone and rhythm. And yet, it’s been a while since a fresh comedy established itself there as its own force. Attempts like “Son of Zorn,” “Bordertown,” and “Golan the Insatiable” died on the vine, maybe in part because they didn’t follow the family sitcom formula that’s served the more established trio of “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers” so well.
Enter “Bless the Harts,” a new series from creator Emily Spivey that mixes and matches elements from other family comedies in the hopes of finding its own groove. Loosely inspired by Spivey’s own childhood growing up in North Carolina, “Bless the Harts” follows the Hart family scraping by while stumbling from one inevitably disastrous misadventure to the next.

“Feels like the end almost,” said Tulip at the beginning of Preacher’s fourth and final season premiere. And right she was. Though Sunday’s “Masada” and “The Last Supper” were every bit as violent and wacky as any other episodes — as a fan would hope, even demand — it definitely seemed like the series was working up to something. But what? Read on, and we’ll go over the clues, zany and inscrutable as they may be.

A feature film adaptation of Gabriel Bergmoser’s novel ”Sunburnt Country” is in development from “It” producer Roy Lee alongside Jon Berg and Greg Silverman.
The story centers on a pair of millennial backpackers who go off-roading in the Australian wilderness and stumble upon a reclusive backwater town where they quickly realize that the locals hunt and kill outsiders for sport. They seek help from an elderly rest stop attendant and his granddaughter.
Lee’s credits include both “It” movies, “The Ring,” “The Grudge,” the “Lego” movies, and “The Departed.”
Berg joined Vertigo in 2017 after serving as Warner Bros.’ co-president of production for a year and overseeing the studio’s DC films. Berg’s DC credits include “Justice League,” “Wonder Woman,” “Aquaman,” and the upcoming “Doctor Sleep.”
Silverman is the former president of Warner Bros. Pictures. His Stampede shingle is in production on its first movie, “Pink Skies Ahead,” starring Jessica Barden.

When uber-producer Marti Noxon read Gillian Flynn’s debut novel, “Sharp Objects,” she says she most admired the “incredible” and “unique” tale. But then she couldn’t shake it. The story — particularly its central figure, Camille, a troubled journalist who returned to her small hometown to investigate a series of brutal murders — stayed on Noxon’s mind, convincing her it was a project she should take on.
A Key Collaboration
Although the basic premise of the HBO limited series remained the same as the 2006 book, having eight episodes allowed for Noxon — and Flynn, who was part of the writing staff — to flesh out the story.
“One of the things we talked a lot about was sometimes you’re trying to re-create the feeling you get from the book and not the book itself,” Noxon says, adding that Flynn was always willing to hear her ideas for changes. “This was...

Horror wunderkind Ari Aster spooked audiences with last year’s family-destroying Hereditary. I brought my girlfriend at the time to a nice Friday night showing. She was a mother, and, boy, was she unhappy. I was tugging my collar like a madman. I’ll know better this time to bring any loved ones to Aster’s follow-up, Midsommar. The director’s sophomore effort is shaping up to be another stylish and slick spookfest, at least per that first short teaser that’s been released. Man, A24 knows how to cut a good trailer, huh?
Recently, Aster dished out some more info about his upcoming film during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, establishing the horror flick’s influences and tone. While Aster comments on the The Wicker Man similarities – they’re too obvious to ignore – he goes on to say how Midsommar differs from the seminal “guy dies in a giant wicker fire” genre.

“Bird Box,” Netflix’s word-of-mouth streaming hit directed by Susanne Bier and starring Sandra Bullock, has nothing to with MTV’s long-running series “Catfish,” and yet there exists a strange link between the two properties. For some reason, “Catfish” host Nev Schulman is depicted in the painting viewers see Sandra Bullock’s character working on at the beginning of the movie.
Based on the novel of the same name by author Josh Malerman, “Bird Box” centers around a group of characters trying to evade unseen monsters who force those who look at them to commit suicide. Prior to the monsters first showing up, Bier and screenwriter Eric Heisserer introduce Bullock’s character, Malorie, as a painter whose apartment is full of works of art.
Malorie’s latest painting is a riff on Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, depicting pregnant Malorie at the center of a table surrounded by other people.

“The Nun,” a prequel to “The Conjuring” series of horror films, finds a young nun traveling to Romania to investigate a demon that has potentially latched itself onto a nun. With that premise, things are bound to get a little crazy. Of course, there’s a long history in film of taking chaste, pious women who have become nuns on film and testing their resolve, of taken their faith to wild extremes, or playing on that goodness for comedy. Say a few rosaries and check out these nun movies.

Back in March of this year, Instagram artist BossLogic brought us an impressive tableau that recreated Da Vinci’s The Last Supper mural with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and associates. Of course, since then, Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters, and about half the inhabitants of this image were erased from the McU (if only temporarily), prompting BossLogic to offer a far more despondent update of his previous work.
If you compare the two images below, you’ll notice that the new version is a lot more sparsely populated in the wake of Infinity War’s genocidal conclusion, not to mention the various deaths that occurred in the lead-up. On top of that, the imagery is a lot more shadowy this time around, giving a grimly ironic edge to the “Teamwork” and “Revolution” posters.
