When news broke in early February that Mariah Carey had booked a return ticket to Las Vegas to mount another residency, it was revealed that she would design the set list as a celebration of her 2005 blockbuster album, The Emancipation of Mimi.
It inspired the title of the exclusive run — The Celebration of Mimi — as well as the timing. Carey took the stage at Park MGM’s Dolby Live to launch the 16-date residency on April 12, 2024, exactly 19 years to the day after the album was released. It’s no surprise Carey wanted to commemorate the 14-track effort, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and brought the elusive chanteuse back into familiar territory at the top of the charts. The success of Emancipation of Mimi was fueled by the No. 1 smash “We Belong Together” and punctuated by singles “It’s Like That,” “Shake It Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,...

It was a family affair for superstar songstress Mariah Carey as she brought her Merry Christmas One and All! tour to the Hollywood Bowl for two sold-out shows on Nov. 17 and 19.
Joining the superstar onstage both nights were her 12-year-old twins (with Nick Cannon), Moroccan and Monroe, or “Roc and Roe,” as the singer put it. Carey’s daughter, Monroe, joined her mom for a duet on a soaring “Jesus Born on This Day,” from Carey’s 1994 holiday album Merry Christmas, with Monroe also fronting a rollicking version of The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping.” Moroccan made a brief appearance for “Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane).” Upbeat versions — complete with all the “zhuzh,” Carey noted — of her Christmas standards started out the set list with cheer.

Singer-songwriter Mariah Carey has posted some Instagram shots reminiscent of her ‘Dreamlover’ music video look from 30 years ago. In the photos, Carey posed in a black-and-white flannel with her hair worn in long, soft waves pulled back on the sides, and also wore more natural makeup, reports People magazine.
“Homage to the Dreamlover video (sans the grassy fields),” the five-time Grammy winner, 54, captioned her photo series.
“Instantly transported back to 1993. You’re timeless Mc!” one follower wrote, while another chimed in: “This casual style looks so good on you!” For the ’90s video, Carey had worn a blue-and-white flannel knotted at the bottom revealing her midsection, paired with cuffed jean shorts and a chunky black belt with her hair in ringlets, tied in low pigtails.
As per People, crooning to the camera, the footage cut back and forth between Carey solo in a field, rolling in the grass and also...

Thirty years ago, when Mariah Carey stepped into the studio with David Morales and transformed “Dreamlover,” her seventh Billboard Number One into an underground dance-floor smash, it didn’t just place the singer-songwriter in front of a whole new audience, it changed pop-dance remixing forever.
By 1993, Carey was already a phenomenon, having seen her first five releases top the Hot 100. There were huge expectations for her third album, Music Box, and its lead single, “Dreamlover,” released on July 27 of that year. Both would go on to deliver that result, selling...

Good news for those who wish to know what their Twitter feed’s jacking off to: the Criterion Channel are launching an erotic thriller series that includes De Palma’s Dressed to Kill and Body Double, the Wachowskis’ Bound, and so many other movies to stir up that ceaseless, fruitless “why do movies have sex scenes?” discourse. (Better or worse than middle-age film critics implying they have a hard-on? I’m so indignant at being forced to choose.) Similarly lurid, if not a bit more frightening, is a David Lynch retro that includes the Criterion editions of Lost Highway and Inland Empire (about which I spoke to Lynch last year), a series of shorts, and a one-month-only engagement for Dune, a film that should be there in perpetuity.

It’s the apocalypse for “Mariah’s World.” Ok, so perhaps that’s a bit too dramatic, but the E! reality series will not be returning for a second season. To be fair to the NBCUniversal cable channel and the “Dream Lover” singer, “Mariah’s World” was always billed as an event series. “E!’s ‘Mariah’s World’ was an eight-part event that chronicled her 2016 world tour,” the cable channel said in a statement. “It was exciting to bring our viewers inside the private world of one of today’s most iconic stars as she returned to the stage last year.

When a franchise has the kind of life that A Nightmare on Elm Street has had, there are always going to be ideas that fall through the cracks. Did you know, for instance, that Peter Jackson wrote an Elm Street sequel in the early '90s? Titled A Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Lover, it was going to address the fact that Freddy Krueger wasn't the terrifying entity he'd been in the first movie, how he'd become a weakened clown who teens tried to encounter so they could use him as a punching bag. There were also plenty of other pitches being drafted back then, and in the years since a lot of attempts at Freddy vs. Jason movies had been discussed or in early stages of development both before and after the 2003 Freddy vs. Jason. Right before that crossover...

Nobody likes to be caught in adverse weather conditions, but Mariah Carey felt less alone during the massive flash flood warning in Manhattan yesterday (July 3) knowing her Instagram followers were keeping an eye on her.
The “Dream Lover” songstress snuggled with her three-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan and played with an umbrella while watching the rain outside.
And of course, Mariah documented all the family fun with mobile phone photos that ended up on Instagram shortly thereafter.
Carey’s husband Nick Cannon recently told the Huffington Post, “It's kind of cool I got a chance to bring that [motherly] side out of my wife, because she's so nurturing and amazing. Not only does she get to be the biggest global singer in the world, but she also gets to be a wonderful mom.”...

He’s celebrating his 33rd birthday today (October 8) and Nick Cannon received a sexy message from his wife Mariah Carey to make the occasion even sweeter.
The “Dream Lover” dame took a photo of her bra-covered breasts and uploaded it to Twitter where Nick (and anyone with an internet connection) was able to see it.
Along with the steamy image, Carey included the caption, “Happy Birthday to my Hubby @NickCannon... ‘my baby I'm waiting on youuuuu’ hahaha! Kklb! Ghl! Mwah!!!”
Meanwhile, Mariah just added Jermaine Dupri to her management team and they are slated to work on new music together in the months to come.

Imported from Australia, The Sapphires is a film of about a quartet of soulful Aboriginal girls (Jessica Mauboy, Miranda Tapsell, Shari Sebbens, and Deborah Mailman) who travel to Vietnam in 1968 to perform for American troops. They are managed by the raucous Dave Lovelace (Chris O’Dowd) who gets them to drop their original country music act, and embrace the sounds of Motown.
Co-written by a descendent of the group, the film is based on a true story, which was first turned into a stage production. Sapphires director Wayne Blair played “Jimmy” in the production alongside Mailman.
This is the first feature film to be directed by Blair, and the second to feature singer Mauboy as an actress.
In an exclusive interview, I talked with Blair & Mauboy about their film, the unexpected singing voice of Chris O’Dowd, what it’s like to get a ten-minute standing ovation, and more.

Come on, Mariah Carey, we know you love rainbows and butterflies and all that other girlie stuff, but aren't you getting a little long in the tooth to carry on this teenaged charade? The 41-year-old "Dream Lover" singer has debuted the new ad for her latest Elizabeth Arden perfume, and it's a odd one. Mariah, in a lace-trimmed tank top, is sucking on a hot pink lollipop to hype the fragrance, not-so-coincidentally called Lollipop Splash the Remix. Why the remix? Because the first one was called Lollipop Bling. That one was dreamed up by the singer after Nick Cannon proposed to her by hiding a 17-carat diamond ring in a Ring Pop wrapper. Mariah's new scent is described as...

Simon Cowell has confirmed that Mariah Carey will join the Us ‘X Factor’ lineup.
The music mogul said that the ‘Dream Lover’ hitmaker, who is currently pregnant with twins with her husband Nick Cannon, will play a role on the reality TV series, though he didn’t confirm if she would be judging or not.
In a radio interview with Jackie Brown, he said: “I think Mariah will have a role on the TV live shows. I met her recently and she was on great form. And her idea was to be the judge of the judges, which only Mariah could come up with.”
Admitting that he loves her music and back catalogue, Cowell continued:
“She’ll be involved in some form. I literally adore her. I love her to bits.”
Speculation about who is joining Simon on the judging panel has been rife.
So far, only the 51-year-old music...

Why should you buy the soundtracks of Christopher Young? Well, for instance the music is quite good on some of them. And if you want to have more fun with the release, check out the tracklisting. You're bound to find somehing along the lines of "Accelerated Brundle Disease" or "Dancing With a Wet Handkerchief on Your Mother's Grave". But wait, there's more! The CD of Hush for intance contains the following titles: "Hush", "Little Baby", "Don't You Cry", "Mama's Gonna Buy", "You", "A". It's all fun. If you pay close attention, you might also find that several Young releases contain pun homages to famous composers as well. Below I've gathered all I could find, now it's up to you to guess which composers are referenced in the track titles. I might add that some of them are only guesses and I couldn't find references some of Young's biggest works...

by Ian Spelling It feels as if Madchen Amick blasted from “Teenage Girl” in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation to sexy, Chace Crawford-seducing cougar Catherine on Gossip Girl in the blink of an eye, but it’s actually been 20 years. And in between, Amick has added loads of film and television credits to her resume, including the groundbreaking series Twin Peaks, the horror film Sleepwalkers, the sensual thriller Dream Lover, the cool-but-short-lived Fantasy Island redux, ER, Freddie, Joey, the recent Christian Slater series My Own Worst Enemy and Californication, the Showtime series on which she plays the latest romantic interest of troubled writer Hank Moody (David Duchovny). Ugo recently caught up with Amick in New York City for this exclusive interview. In it, she discusses her career, jokes about her teenage daughter watching her on Gossip Girl, discusses what the hell went wrong with My Own Worst Enemy...
