It is well known that in the entertainment industry, there are far more rejected ideas and concepts for movies and shows than ones that are eventually made. Disney is no stranger to this, as many of its early or canceled concepts have become well-known within the fandom. The trouble is that many of those concepts are locked away in a vault, never to be seen by the general public.
Now, in a series of massive online leaks, multiple pilots, sporty bibles, and show concepts give fans a look at what could have been for some of their favorite shows and what we never got to see. These leaks include not only Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon projects but also Disney Channel/Disney Xd shows.

Best known for his contributions to the iconic Gremlins and Star Wars franchises, actor Mark Dodson has passed away this week at the age of 64, Deadline reports today.
Mark Dodson memorably voiced the character Salacious Crumb in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and he also did uncredited zombie voice work for George Romero’s Day of the Dead.
Dodson’s unique voice acting skills were put to excellent use in both Joe Dante’s Gremlins and sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch, with the actor voicing multiple Gremlins characters.
It was Dodson’s voice work as Salacious Crumb in Return of the Jedi that led to him voicing the Gremlins, which were seen as being similar to the Salacious Crumb character.
Speaking of his work in the Gremlins franchise in a 2023 chat with the YouTube channel Diabolic Shrimp (watch the full video below), Mark Dodson explained his contributions:

I love cartoons. Specifically cartoon series from the 80’s and 90’s. Whenever someone asks me what my favorite childhood cartoon is, I always say there are two. The first is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the second is Darkwing Duck. I was the biggest fan of the masked mallard, and who wouldn’t be? He was brave, smart, egotistical, and accident-prone but would persevere against evil. He had a killer costume and cool equipment to fight bad guys. He had an awesome rogue’s gallery that was a bit of a joke but also surprisingly formidable. The cartoon was also not afraid to show its love for classic superhero comics at a time when the general public didn’t understand it. It even broke through the Iron Curtain at the height of the Cold War. But does this cartoon from the early 90’s still hold up? Is it a silly...

As part of Variety’s 100 Greatest Shows of All Time issue, we asked writers on our staff to name their favorite cult shows — series that may lack the clout, the following, or the prestige to quite notch an entry on our list, but ones for which our writers have a special fondness. Here are seven shows that are, to us, the greatest.
Alias
So the central mythology, about the mystical inventor Milo Rambaldi, came to little as the show went on. No big deal. On “Alias,” it was all about the ride. That’s meant very literally: Each week, the show crash-landed into an episode-ending cliffhanger. As played by a luminous, game, and utterly committed Jennifer Garner, superspy double agent Sydney Bristow changed her loyalties, her allies, and her wigs. The only constant in her life was chaos, into which a writing team led by J.J. Abrams thrust her week after week.

Disney’s “Gargoyles” are coming back, TheWrap has learned.
The beloved animated series, which ran in syndication on weekday afternoons for three seasons from 1995 to 1997, is set to return, this time as a live-action series for Disney+ from James Wan’s Atomic Monster, writer Gary Dauberman (who wrote all three “Annabelle” movies) and Disney Branded Television. Dauberman is attached as writer, executive producer and showrunner on the new series.
“Gargoyles,” which centered on a band of monstrous warriors who, long ago, were encased in stone and cursed to stay that way unless they were lifted above the clouds, find themselves awoken in modern day Manhattan after a billionaire zealot placed them atop his latest towering skyscraper. (They remain stone during the day but become flesh-and-blood at night.) The Gargoyles then have to figure out what life in the contemporary world is like, while also attempting to rid New York City of some of its crime.

Dynamite Entertainment's "Negaduck" #1, now available, is a degenerate version of Disney's "Darkwing Duck", written by Jeff Parker and illustrated by Ciro Cangialosi, with covers by Joshua Middleton, Jae Lee and Trish Forstner:
"I am the screeching fingernail on the chalkboard of justice. I am the sour ball in the candy jar of goodness. I am 'Negaduck'.
"He's the degenerate opposite of 'Dd' in every way. And now, he's ready to begin a reign of crime the likes of which 'St. Canard' has never seen.
"But what's a psycho mastermind to do when the city's thick with other criminals, stealing his shine? Why, take his villainy on the road, of course..."

The 1990s: the decade when teal squiggles and purple triangles reigned supreme. Or at least, that's what our collective memory has assigned to the period's romanticized style guide.
The '90s were formative for the medium of animation. On the silver screen, Disney animated musicals dominated the box office and awards seasons, while studios like Pixar and DreamWorks debuted their first feature films. On the small screen, the animation revolution continued in what we can now look back on as a unique convergence of passing generations. The Disney Afternoon programming block crested the wave of its success, oodles of beloved Nicktoons busted onto the scene, Cartoon Network launched, and some of today's longest-running animated series populated airwaves for the very first time.
Attempting to rank the best 90s cartoons is a nearly impossible task. Everyone has their favorites, whether we're talking about precious childhood shows or foundational barrier-breakers in adult animation.

Some cliche somewhere said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ This has proven to be the case for me and especially when it comes to fan art. I have always sought out great fan art and have wanted to share it with as many people as possible. “Awesome Art We’ve Found Around The Net” is the outlet for that passion. In this column, I will showcase the kick-ass artwork of some great artists, with the hopes that these artists get the attention they deserve. That’s the aim. This Ducktales article contains massive spoilers for the finale.
Nothing can stop DuckTales. That applies not just to the characters of the series but the crew behind it. Throughout the run of the series they not only redefined DuckTales for a new generation but also crafted a beautifully woven story that developed every single one of its cast of characters. Along the way they also brought back other beloved Disney TV classics like Darkwing Duck, TaleSpin, Rescue Rangers, and even mega deep cuts like Fluppy Dogs.
They pulled all that off but the finale presented the crew of DuckTales with their biggest challenge yet. They had to wrap up the shows many plotlines while also giving its huge cast of main and supporting characters time to shine… all in just over an hour. This would be near impossible for most shows… but nothing can stop the crew of DuckTales.

Apart from not being entirely certain when the Darkwing Duck reboot is going to launch, this is already sounding like a return to childhood for a lot of adults that were growing up during the early 90s that might have seen the masked duck in action. The fact that he shares the same universe as Ducktales is great since the main protagonist makes use of Launchpad McQuack, who’s also a constant on Ducktales and has been seen to bounce back and forth between the two shows pretty frequently. Despite only lasting for three seasons, Darkwing Duck managed to leave an

Fans of Disney’s Darkwing Duck might be headed for a Crisis on Infinite Darkwings. A reboot of the beloved ’90s animated series is in the early stages of development for Disney Plus, with Alex McAtee of Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures overseeing the project (via Variety.)
But wait, didn’t they already reboot Darkwing Duck recently? In the modern series of DuckTales, the character of Darkwing was slowly introduced over the shows three seasons before recently getting his own special episode, ‘Let’s Get Dangerous!’ This episode introduced a rebooted version of original Darkwing Duck character Gosalyn Mallard and set the stage for more adventures featuring the two alongside DuckTales main cast member Launchpad.
So is this new reboot in development a spinoff of what we’ve already seen in the new DuckTales, or is it a whole new version of Darkwing Duck? At present we aren’t sure.

A Darkwing Duck reboot is destined for streaming service Disney+, and hopefully, it’ll be really gritty and violent (it won’t). The original show ran from 1991-1992 and featured Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck as he balanced his home life with his crimefighting. While the series was assumed by everyone (including me) to be a spin-off of DuckTales, creator Tad Stones […]

Darkwing Duck may be making a comeback. A reboot of the 1990s’animated action-adventure comedy series is in the works at Disney+. The reboot is in early development at Disney Television Animation, which falls under the newly formed Disney Branding Television unit headed by Gary Marsh, Deadline has confirmed.
A writer is not yet attached. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will executive produce the project via Point Grey Pictures.
Created by Tad Stones, DarkWing Duck ran from 1991-1992 on The Disney Afternoon syndicated programming block and on Saturday mornings on ABC. It followed the adventures of Darkwing Duck, who is the superheroic alter-ego of ordinary suburban duck Drake Mallard. Aided by his sidekick and pilot Launchpad McQuack, DarkWing lives in an unassuming suburban house with his adopted daughter Gosalyn, next door to the bafflingly dim-witted Muddlefoot family. This Ducktales review contains spoilers.
DuckTales Season 3 Episode 13
There are two central pillars at the heart of this DuckTales episode. The first is Scrooge questioning, “what if being Scrooge isn’t enough this time?” The second is “we won’t get stronger by attacking the people we love.” Both of these lessons seem separated and they are, at least in terms of being the A and B stories. However, the closer you look the more you realize how they effectively dovetail together.
They’re both framed by the families attempt to prepare for F.O.W.L. After the last Darkwing Duck special episode I’m glad we’re keeping this threat firmly in the foreground of the story and that it drives so much of the action here. Both Scrooge and Beakley are terrified of what this means for the family and they both try to prepare for F.

This DuckTales article contains spoilers for season 3 episode 12.
While watching DuckTales I sometimes think about what writing the show is like. While I know there’s considerable time spent on writing the complex characters, their arcs, the world, and just making a great story? I have no doubt there’s also got to be at least an hour long discussion every week of “okay but what deep cut Disney reference can we do in this episode?”
Throughout the 2017 DuckTales there’s been references big and small to Disney’s past. In the recent Darkwing Duck episode of DuckTales, “Let’s Get Dangerous” we got a Bonkers cameo!
However, so far all the references have at least been to things fans were more or less aware of. This reference though was the deepest of deep cuts. Beyond the Disney afternoon, beyond the comics, there was one moment in that recent Darkwing Duck...

This DuckTales article contains spoilers for the recent Darkwing Duck special.
The people behind the new DuckTales are massive fans of Darkwing Dark. You can’t deny it after the recent big “crossover” episode aired on Disney, which finally brought Darkwing and his extended cast fully into the story of DuckTales. It featured a deeply compelling story about Darkwing, Gosalyn, and Launchpad, furthered DuckTales‘ current story arc, And tons of references, big and small, to Darkwing and the Disney Afternoon.
Putting together an episode like that is not easy so we had to sit down with DuckTales Co-Executive Producer Frank Angones and Executive Producer Matt Youngberg to discuss the genesis of the episode, how they adapted Darkwing’s tone to DuckTales, and what this all means for the future of the “Disney Afternoon Universe.”

DuckTales Season 3 Episode 12
This episode is the biggest love letter to not only Darkwing Duck but DuckTales as a franchise. It’s filled with reference after reference, big and small. For many fans those alone will make “Let’s Get Dangerous” a favorite. Crucially though, while this episode delights in its references it never leans on them. Yes it’s a Darkwing Duck love fest but it never forgets that it needs tell a really good Darkwing Duck story.
It manages this in something that could have easily been lost in all the nostalgia; it builds on the story DuckTales has been telling for three seasons. This isn’t just a sudden episode of a new Darkwing Duck show out of nowhere; DuckTales has been carefully sowing the seeds of this episode since the first season. Darkwing Duck deserves a spinoff. After several appearances in the new DuckTales series, the show has already done an immense amount of work to prove that the time for Darkwing Duck to return is now. We’ll be seeing even more evidence of that in an upcoming two-part DuckTales episode that features Darkwing Duck and the first appearance of Gosalyn in the new DuckTales continuity.
With so many appearances and big special about to air, could this be the sign that there’s trouble and Darkwing Duck needs to be called in for his own spinoff? We spoke with DuckTales Executive Producer Matt Youngberg and Co-Executive Producer Frank Angones and both were evasive in their answers. However they did say that the ultimate goal of every new (or old) character appearing in DuckTales is thinking about what more could be done with them. As Angones puts it, “we treat every...

Sometimes it’s nice to just sit back and watch your characters have fun.
Amidst all the character development, the large cast, and the promise of an upcoming big Darkwing Duck episode, I’m glad DuckTales took the chance to just have a romp of an adventure this week. As much as fans always want every episode to be Big and important and tell us something new about the world or the characters, we can’t have those big moments without a little time for a status quo to set in.
The Halloween episode just lets the kids run around and get into a wacky spooky adventure while the adults got into their own shenanigans. It’s great to watch these rich characters DuckTales has built up be let loose into comical situations and see how they react.
Launchpad’s plot was easily my favorite.

Ever since getting the role of Snow Job in the ’80s GI Joe animated series, Rob Paulsen realized that his future was not in a local rock band or appearing in commercials, but in the realm of voice acting. Through the decades, Paulsen has taken on many iconic roles, such as Raphael from the ’80s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Donatello from the 2012 reboot, Carl Wheezer from Jimmy Neutron, Mighty Max, Major Glory from Dexter’s Lab, Pj from Goof Troop, Steelbeak from Darkwing Duck, Buck Tuddrussel from Time Squad, and hundreds more.
He’s also a survivor of throat cancer and recently wrote a book about it called Voice Lessons.
Of course, two of his biggest roles that come to mind are Yakko Warner, Pinky, and Dr. Scratchansniff characters from the beloved animated series Animaniacs. Wouldn’t you know it, that series will be coming back this November!

Let’s get dangerous. After a hiatus only made longer due to the ongoing Covid-19, Disney’s new DuckTales series is finally coming back! We last left the family in a wrestling themed episode and can only imagine what could come next. Thankfully we not only know the return dates for the episode but the episode titles as well.
Co-executive producer Frank Angones shared a graphic with all the dates and titles, which included…
9/21: The Phantom and the Sorceress!
9/28: They Put a Moonlander On The Earth!
10/5: The Trickening! (Halloween Episode)
10/12: The Forbidden Fountain of the Foreverglades!
10/19: Let’s Get Dangerous! (Hour-long Episode)
10/26: Escape From The Impossibin!
Those are all incredible titles but the one that instantly caught our attention was the “Let’s Get Dangerous!” hour-long episode. In the replies to his tweet Angeles said the episode would be a “Darkwing Duck Event.”

Launchpad has mostly been the butt of jokes in DuckTales. Sure, the guy has gotten time to shine in the past (especially in the Darkwing Duck episodes) but compared to the other main characters Launchpad is often left on the sidelines. Here though he takes center stage and while we don’t get much insight into the guy it’s mostly made up for in spectacle.
The bulk of the episode is given over to an elaborate James Bond spoof with an updated version of Steelbeak from the original Darkwing Duck. The great twist is that throughout the episode Launchpad and Dewey think they’re simply playing an Ar game at Funso’s Fun Zone (where fun is in the zone.) Even when Steelbeak captures the two, Dewey thinks it’s all still a game. Launchpad however gets blasted with an intelligence enhancement ray and...

We’re experiencing a time right now in the world where streaming services and entertainment might offer a little bit of a distraction from things, and so it was perfect timing that Disney Plus landed in the UK on the 24th of March. The United States have had the service since November of 2019, so us fans here in the UK have been waiting anxiously for it to drop, and it finally has. I thought I’d take a look at the service, the options and how it works in this article for anyone considering subscribing to it.

Jack Burns, a comedian, writer and actor known for writing on “The Muppet Show” and “Hee Haw,” acting on “The Andy Griffith Show,” and his comedy partnership with George Carlin, has died at the age of 86, his manager Peter Santana confirmed to TheWrap Tuesday.
“He has been in senior care for the last two years in good spirits and surrounded by friends and cases of Diet Coke,” Santana said. “He was as sharp as a tack mentally but had not walked for two years. He achieved many great achievements but his most recent was hitting the 31 year sober mark in December. Truly a sweet and talented man.”
Burns began his career in show business in the 1960s by way of his duo with Carlin. The two made a comedy album together in 1963 called “Burns and Carlin at the Playboy Club,” and also had a radio show together at Kxol in Fort Worth,...

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Disney+ launched to a great amount of fanfare. And not long after, fans were all over Twitter talking about one of the classic animated shows featured on the platform. Yes, Gargoyles is now trending on social media, alongside other Disney darlings like Darkwing Duck and Lizzie McGuire.
Subscribers both old and young are letting everyone know about the binge-worthy series. A lot of folks are rediscovering the magic of the show they fell in love with as kids, while a whole new generation of viewers is becoming enthralled with the 78 half-hour episodes for the first time. Many people are already pushing for a reboot, too, which some of the show’s original stars have expressed their desire to be a part of.
For those who are unfamiliar, Gargoyles tells the story of a species of nocturnal beasts who turn to stone during the day.

Emmy-winning writer Gordon Bressack, best known for his work on ’90s animated classics “Tiny Toon Adventures,” “Pinky and the Brain” and “Animaniacs,” died Friday following several health issues. He was 68.
His son, filmmaker James Cullen Bressack, announced the news in a statement posted to Instagram. A specific cause of death was not given.
“You were my mentor, my writing partner, my hero, my best friend, but most of all you were my Dad,” Bressack’s statement said in part. “Thank you for everything you taught me. Thank you for being a story teller and instilling a love of stories into me. Thank you for making me watch movie after movie when i was little and asking me questions about them. Thank you for telling me I was going to be a filmmaker before I ever even knew what that meant. You meant the world to me, you always have and you always will.

In the 1990s, Disney created a show called Darkwing Duck, which may or may not have been set in the same universe as the even better-known DuckTales. For those who are curious, Darkwing Duck was centered on the titular character, who was the superhero alterego of a normal, suburb-dwelling duck named Drake Mallard. On the whole, Darkwing Duck was a very affectionate parody of the superhero genre as a whole, which makes it no wonder that interested individuals have speculated about it returning to the TV screen in recent times. Speculation that turned out to have been neither wholly true

The villains of Sailor Moon season 5 have been cast!
When we covered Viz Media’s announcement of the new voice talent joining the Sailor Moon family, we couldn’t help but note a few absences. While we got the casting info for the Sailor Starlights, Sailor Galaxia, and Chibi-Chibi, there was nothing on Galaxia’s henchwomen, the Sailor Animamates.
Well, ask and you shall receive!
It’s been just barely a week, and we now know who will portray these animal/metal-themed villains of Sailor Moon: Sailor Stars.
First up is Katie Leigh as Sailor Iron Mouse, the first agent of Shadow Galactica to face off with the Sailor Guardians, whose childlike cuteness betrays a nasty mean streak. Leigh hasa few anime credits to her name, but her voice-over career goes waaay back, and English-speaking audiences would probably know her best as Alex from Totally Spies,...

That’s not to say those who make the media don’t have that same level of involvement but it’s of a different sort. When you’re behind the scenes and privy to all the inner workings of a show it can lose its shine. The inner workings are exposed. For all you ‘90s kids who grew up with Disney shows like DuckTales and Darkwing Duck in your life, you’ll be happy to learn that Darkwing Duck is making a comeback and will appear in an upcoming episode of DuckTales titled “The Duck Knight Returns!”
Darkwing Duck was my jam when I was a kid! He was easily one of my favorite Disney characters. Probably because he reminded me of those classic noir comic book characters like Batman, The Shadow, and The Spirit.
According to EW, Jim Cummings, who voiced the titular character on the ’90s cartoon, will reprise his role of actor Jim Starling, a.k.a. Darkwing Duck. DuckTales Season 2 Episode 14
It’s been a long time but we’re finally back to the Lena plot! The stand out arc of the first season of DuckTales, when we last saw Lena she managed to free herself from Magica and attach herself to Webby. It’s a shame we haven’t seen her until now but we do learn that she’s been keeping watch over Webby this whole time.
That’s heartbreaking! Just picture it, Webby is off having adventures or bonding with the family and Lena is just quietly there. Happy for her friend but still so far apart. With that time though Lena grew closer to Webby in unexpected ways. While of course Webby had the family to lean on she never managed to find another friend.

The Sonic Mania team want to work their retro magic on Darkwing Duck. Will Disney let them?
Headcannon Games, the team behind the brilliant Sonic Mania, really want to develop a Darkwing Duck revival.
A recent video tells the story of the studio's somewhat strange desire to revisit a property that hasn't exactly been hot since the early '90s. After all, the Darkwing Duck TV show only ran for about one year (1991-1992).
As some of you may have already guessed, though, the team's interest in the Darkwing Duck name seemingly has little to do with the TV show and is based more on their love of the Darkwing Duck Nes game. That title was released as part of Capcom's series of Nes titles based on Disney shows. Darkwing Duck wasn't always seen as the highlight of that legendary run of licensed games, but it's...

When trying to conjure up a live-action movie about Darkwing Duck the first question would probably be ‘why?’. It’s not so much that it wouldn’t be a good idea, but more that it would seem to be leaping ahead of several other cartoons that were far more popular and had the distinction of coming first. Ducktales seems like it would be a priority first, as would Talespin or Rescue Rangers, or even the Gummi Bears if someone could generate enough interest. Darkwing Duck was an attempt by Disney to make yet another Saturday morning or afternoon cartoon for kids to
