There's a delightful moment early in Ron Howard's documentary "Jim Henson Idea Man," where Henson, creator of the Muppets, appears on "The Orson Welles Show." Recounting his youth, Henson admits that when he was a child he had absolutely no interest in puppets, nor did he use puppets. Welles is overdramatically shocked. "You never saw a puppet?" the auteur turned talk-show host asks, incredulous. Henson didn't say those exact words, but he nods in agreement. It's a wonderful little anecdote: the man who is perhaps the most famous puppeteer to ever live didn't really care about puppets when he was younger. As "Idea Man" makes clear in its early moments, puppetry just sort of happened to Jim Henson. As a young guy obsessed with TV and filmmaking, Henson answered an ad for puppetry on a local TV station — and the rest is history. Henson was a natural, and his career...

The cantankerous barkeep Moe Szyslak (Hank Azaria), the overseer of Springfield's most depressing dive bar, first appeared in the pilot for "The Simpsons" serving multiple beers to Homer (Dan Castellaneta), a functional alcoholic. Moe was the worst kind of barkeeper, unwilling or unable to make his bar much better than a local watering hole, and eager to crack out a shotgun when the going got rough. Moe, however, is not above celebrating the successes of his clientele. When Homer and his wife Marge (Julie Kavner) reconcile in the bar, Moe announces that, for the next 15 minutes, everyone gets a third off every pitcher.
The writers of "The Simpsons" began dropping hints as to Moe's inner life. In one episode, he is seen taking a naturalization test, implying that he immigrated. In another, Moe is seen hiding an orca in the back of his bar for reasons that are never adequately explained.

This weekend, the 49th season of "Saturday Night Live" came to an end. Typically, the season finale is chock full of guest stars, and usually a big name or former beloved cast member takes the stage in Studio 8H at 30 Rockefeller Plaza for hosting duties. This time, it was the former, with "Road House" remake star Jake Gyllenhaal returning for his third time hosting the late night sketch series.
For those keeping track, Gyllenhaal's hosting duties have Taylor Swift fans buzzing, because the musical guest was "Girl Meets World" star Sabrina Carpenter, who has been opening for Swift on the international part of her Eras Tour (now available to watch on Disney+), and there's that whole drama between Gyllenhaal and Swift that resulted in a 10-minute hit song. Speaking of musical guests, Gyllenhaal got musical in his own right as he sang a Boyz II Men cover about the honor...

Just when you got the Spider-Pig song out of your head comes word that another Simpsons movie could be greenlit…if the circumstances are just right. But The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean says the existence of a sequel actually has nothing to do with the record-setting sitcom itself but rather another property altogether.
Speaking with Screen Rant, Al Jean said that a Simpsons Movie sequel more centers around how well animated movies can still do at the box office. “I think it’s a bigger issue than The Simpsons. On several levels, we’re really hoping for Inside Out 2 to do great this summer. I want to see the animation business completely returned to what it was before the pandemic.” (A sequel was actually formally discussed prior to the pandemic.) “And then, I think if that was the case, it would make sense to do The Simpsons theatrically.” To back up Jean’s concerns,...

Premiered in 1989, the long-running animated sitcom, The Simpsons, is currently making headlines for fast approaching the end of its milestone Season 35. However, despite reaching an astonishing 766 episodes, the animated series shows no signs of slowing down. Co-showrunner Al Jean and writer/producer Matt Selman even revealed their future plans for the show.
The Simpsons (1989) | Gracie Films and 20th Television
Although The Simpsons will be wrapping Season 35 within a few days, it’s been reported that the show has already been renewed for Season 36 arriving next year. With the next season, the series will eventually cross the 800-episode milestone. And yet it seems there’s no potential end of sight for those helming the show.
The Simpsons Co-Showrunner Al Jean Addressed the Future of the Show
Earning the reputation of the longest-running television series of all time, with 766 episodes, The Simpsons is set to mark the end of its 35th season.

What’s really great about the world of television is that it offers you so many different life scenarios that sometimes you forget it’s only fiction. Or on the contrary, the picture we see on screen is so far from reality you find yourself frustrated when a minor inconvenience enters your life.
The same goes even about TV friendships: they are either ideal, where every character is ready to do whatever it takes to make his friend happy, or they are really toxic. One of the brightest examples of such friendships is Euphoria’s Maddy and Cassie. The betrayals they went through destroying each other’s lives, while declaring unconditional love to each other before is just scary…
But there are even worse stories: let’s check out these 5 other couples that have love-hate relationships.

Family Guy was one of the biggest stars of the 2024 upfronts, prominently featured at two different presentations – Fox and Disney. Seth MacFarlane’s animated hit helped open Fox’s event and then was part of a Disney skit featuring an animated version of the company’s ad chief Rita Ferro making a sales pitch while hanging out with Peter Griffin and his dog, Brian.
Ironically, upfront presentations focus on fall schedules, and, despite all the attention, Family Guy actually is not on the fall schedule for the first time since the show was resurrected by Fox 19 years ago..
Both Fox and Disney have the right to claim Family Guy — Fox airs it and Disney produces it through 20th Television Animation.

X-Men 97 Nominated at the Gotham TV Awards, Predicted to Win Emmys - Main Image
The dust has barely settled since the season finale of X-Men ‘97 dropped, yet the accolades have already started to pour in.
The highly-acclaimed animated series is nominated in the Breakthrough Drama Series category at the 2024 Gotham TV Awards, with credit to Beau DeMayo as creator and Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Kevin Feige, Brad Winderbaum, and DeMayo as executive producers.
It is up against some serious competition in the category, versus Black Cake, Fallout, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and The Curse; however, it is worth noting that X-Men ‘97 is the only animated show to get a nomination in this year’s awards.
Nominees for the annual Gotham Awards are selected by a panel of film and television critics, journalists, and festival programmers, with the award ceremony to be held on June 4, 2024.

Boba Fett was conspicuous by his absence in The Mandalorian season 3 and, much to the chagrin of actor Temuera Morrison, the bounty hunter even took a backseat to Din Djarin in his own series.
Given the mixed response to The Book of Boba Fett, it's currently unclear what the future holds in store for a character we all thought had died in Return of the Jedi. However, some Star Wars fans are convinced his new armour design has been revealed...in The Simpsons?!
In the latest episode, titled "The Tipping Point," Boba Fett is spotted wearing a suit which features several significant changes to the character's appearance in Disney's recent Star Wars offerings.
As we first pointed out on SFFGazette.com, the design is clearly based on The Book of Boba Fett but includes added details to his shoulder pauldrons and Mandalorian spike decals above his helmet's visor. While this may seem like a stretch,...

How do you craft an entirely new story about a character that we've seen depicted throughout one of the most famous movie trilogies of all time -- especially when one of those movies already laid out his origin story in its opening 10 minutes? Since I'm not a studio executive desperate to keep one of their biggest cash cows going with the recently-announced "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" film, I'm in the fortunate position of not having to be the one to provide answers to such burning questions. But for those with much more personal stakes involved in this unexpected new journey, namely producer Peter Jackson and returning star-turned-director Andy Serkis, this conundrum only made them all the more excited to sink their teeth into the IP's biggest live-action project since "The Hobbit" trilogy.

Fans of The Simpsons are shocked by how different Mr. Burns sounds in the latest episode of the series. On May 12, in the episode titled “The Tipping Point,” Homer loses his mind over tipping culture run amok. Mr. Burns, Homer’s greedy boss, makes a familiar appearance though his voice sounded very different. Fans took to social media to express their disdain and concern for the change in vocal tone. “Burns’ voice is just brutal man. Let these people retire in peace,” said one fan. “I was not prepared for how bad this would be,” said another. “It sounds like a fan dub.” Mr. Burns, a series regular though he does not appear in every episode, is currently voiced by Harry Shearer, who is 80 years old. Shearer succeeded Christopher Collins who originally voiced the evil, green-suit-wearing character. Shearer, who joined The Simpsons in 1989, still voices multiple roles including Ned Flanders,...

The Simpsons has come under repeated scrutiny for its voice cast, particularly the various races and cultures they are representing. The most damning attacks have been at Hank Azaria, who voiced Kwik-e-Mart owner Apu Nahasapeemapetilon up until 2020. But Harry Shearer had to step away from one of the show’s most beloved supporting characters – Dr. Julius Hibbert – as well once showrunners decided that no white people would be voicing people of color. And he doesn’t seem too happy with how that has turned out.
Speaking with The Times, Harry Shearer said that people are adamant that The Simpsons is too PC anymore considering all of the casting changes. “Folk say the show has become woke in recent years and one of my characters has been affected. I voiced the black physician, Dr Hibbert, who I based on Bill Cosby. Back then he was known as the ‘whitest black man on television.

Harry Shearer voices many characters on The Simpsons and was recently replaced as the voice of Dr. Hibbert.
In 2020, producers decided to have no longer white actors voice characters of color, a decision which also made Hank Azaria retire from voicing Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.
Shearer recently reflected on the change and who inspired Dr. Hibbert’s voice.
“Folk say the show has become woke in recent years and one of my characters has been affected,” Shearer said on The Times of London. “I voiced the Black physician, Dr. Hibbert, who I based on Bill Cosby. The result is a Black man imitating a white man imitating the whitest Black man on TV.”

Fox is the latest broadcast network to unveil its fall schedule, and there are some surprises.
We’ll start with the good news: 9-1-1: Lone Star will finally return to the air in September.
The series has been on hiatus for a year, but Fox is expected to give it a big promotional push as it succeeds the original 9-1-1 on Mondays at 8/7c.
16 months between seasons doesn’t bode well for the show’s future, but there’s a chance the numbers will still be strong enough to stay on the air.
9-1-1: Lone Star is being paired with Rescue Hi-Surf, a new drama series that will air on Mondays at 9/8c.
The Arielle Kebbel-led drama has also been confirmed to air along with the 2025 Super Bowl, hinting that Fox believes it will be a massive hit in the fall.

Created by Seth MacFarlane, Family Guy has been one of the edgiest shows for over twenty years, pushing the boundaries of television ethics to their limits. Unlike The Simpsons and most other animated sitcoms, which also emphasize satire over subtle jokes and references, Family Guy blatantly mocks everything and everyone, and does so in an extremely unapologetic manner.
MacFarlane's show does not try to build its identity on insults, but instead mocks all stereotypes and approaches sensitive topics with humor. However, this does not change the fact that it is sometimes quite controversial, and many of the show's moments proved to be too much to put on the air. Let's take a look at the 25 craziest deleted scenes in Family Guy history.

"The Boys," the Prime Video series that dares to ask "What if superheroes said the F-word?", is going to keep on keeping on. Season 4 of the hit series hasn't even arrived yet, but Amazon has gone ahead and ordered "The Boys" season 5. "The Boys" season 4 will premiere its fourth season on June 13, 2024, with three episodes. A new episode each will follow each week, concluding with the fourth season finale on Thursday, July 18, 2024. The eight-episode season will stream exclusively on Prime Video.
As for season 5, well, it's too early to say much about that. But the show being given a fifth season feels like a no-brainer at this point. Quentin Tarantino‘s movies are wildly different from Disney movies. They’re violent, transgressive, and narratively complex. Despite this, one Disney film had a huge impact on him as a child. The Pulp Fiction director said an infamous scene from the movie scared him as much as a horror film by Wes Craven.

In his 2022 book Cinema Speculation, the Kill Bill director recalled watching a number of violent and sexually explicit movies as a child. He rhetorically asked if there was a film he couldn’t handle as a kid. The movie that came to mind was Walt Disney’s Bambi.

Fox 2024-25 Fall Lineup: Rescue Hi-Surf Gets Post Super Bowl Slot; Accused & 9-1-1: Lone Star Return
Fox was busy over the weekend.
They renewed their remaining drama, The Cleaning Lady, for a 12-episode third season under new showrunners, to start.
The Cleaning Lady, which suffered a great loss when leading man Adan Canto died, was forced to pivot midseason, and it will be pivoting again for its third season.
While we don’t have details, perhaps divesting the original creative team from being so closely related to their story will give the show an opportunity to thrive.
Today, Fox will unveil its content slate for the 2024-2025 television season to the national advertising community during its in-person Upfront Presentation at the Manhattan Center.
That means we get the information on that schedule now and can add the videos after the execs reveal them later this evening.
Here’s what we know.

Family Guy, The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers are heading into the last year of their current deal and despite some moves in the schedule, Fox is keen to keep them going.
This comes as Family Guy is moving to midseason – the first time in nearly 20 years that it has not been on the network’s fall schedule.
The show is moving to make room for new animated series Universal Basic Guys, which was just renewed for a second season ahead of its debut, and will be paired with Krapopolis as well as veterans The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers.
Fox Television Network President Michael Thorn said it was balancing keeping its long-running legacy series, while launching new Fox-owned series.
He said that series such as Family Guy are still of “crucial importance” to it and its audience. He said that the “beloved” show would receive a full season order, despite its move.

When Fox released its schedule for the start of the 2024-25 season Monday, there was a surprise omission from the lineup: Family Guy.
The long-running animated series, which is going into its 23rd season, won’t be part of the network’s Sunday animation block in the fall. Instead, Fox will launch a new animated series, Universal Basic Guys, behind The Simpsons, while second-year show Krapopolis will fill the 9:30 p.m. spot after Bob’s Burgers.
Family Guy, which moved from Sunday to Wednesday for the final episodes of this season, will return midseason — it will have a full season order and a mostly unbroken run of new episodes, Fox network president Michael Thorn told reporters Monday morning.
“It’s still a crucial part of our [schedule],” Thorn said of Family Guy. “We’ll give it a great relaunch for that part of our lineup, and we know that when it comes back on Sundays,...

Fox is moving “Family Guy” to midseason, marking the first time the animated staple hasn’t been on the network’s fall schedule since 2005 (when it returned to the air after being canceled for a few years). That’s one of the major shifts to come this fall as Fox announced a 2024-2025 lineup that includes two new dramas and a new animated series in the fall, with more freshman launches to come in midseason.
New dramas include lifeguard actioner “Rescue: Hi-Surf,” from executive producer John Wells, which will air Mondays at 9 p.m. Et behind “9-1-1: Lone Star” and crime procedural “Murder in a Small Town,” which will run Tuesdays at 9 p.m., paired with Season 2 of anthology series “Accused.” Later in the season will premiere medical drama “Doc,” based on the Italian series “Doc — Nelle tue mani” and starring Molly Parker.

After airing only two drama series for all of the 2023-24 season, Fox is planning to double that number in the fall.
The network unveiled its 2024-25 schedule Monday morning — after skipping the usual rite of spring the past two years — ahead of its upfront presentation to advertisers in the afternoon. The slate includes two nights of drama programming on Monday and Tuesday, a return to Fox’s scheduling pattern from seasons before last year’s dual labor strikes shut down production on scripted series and led the network to an all-reality schedule on weeknights.
The early part of the week will be anchored by two shows that took the 2023-24 season off. Ahead of Fox’s premiere of the animated series Universal Basic Guys, the network has given the comedy an early Season 2 renewal. Season 1 is set to premiere in the 2024-25 season.
From creators Adam and Craig Malamut, Universal Basic Guys follows brothers, Mark and Hank Hoagies, who lose their jobs to automation and are given $3k a month in a new basic income program. Now, they’re using their free time and free money to find purpose in a world where they’re no longer needed.
Universal Basic Guys was picked up by the network in late 2022. It will join other Fox comedies including the Jon Hamm-led Grimsburg, Dan Harmon’s Krapopolis, as well as the long-running titles The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob’s Burgers. The series is a co-production of Fox Entertainment through its animation studio Bento Box Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television.

For the first time in three years, Fox is unveiling a fall schedule at its upfront, reverting to the decades-old tradition of presenting a fall lineup to advertisers in May.
And for the first time since Family Guy was brought back from cancellation by Fox 19 years ago, Seth MacFarlane’s animated hit, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary, won’t be on the network’s fall schedule. It is one of 8 new and returning scripted series held for midseason — including Animal Control, The Cleaning Lady and Alert — which is as many as there are on Fox’s fall schedule. The network likely is plotting a major midseason rollout using its Super Bowl broadcast as a promotional platform.
Also, for the first time in five years, there is no WWE SmackDown on Fridays as the network is replacing the departing wrestling franchise with sports coverage of college football and basketball as well as Ufl.

For a show filled with constant troublemakers, it makes sense that "The Simpsons" would feature multiple recurring lawyer characters. The most memorable is Lionel Hutz, the incompetent bozo who usually represents a member of the Simpson family; when he's taking on the case, that's a sure sign that whoever he's defending is going to jail. He's a familiar archetype, one we see echoes of with the incompetent alien chicken lawyer on "Futurama" or the perpetually anxious Ted on "Scrubs." Any lawyer who strays from the expected image of a smart, calculating, dignified man is always a welcome addition to a sitcom, but "The Simpsons" is unique in that it offers a counterpart.
Mr. Burns' lawyer, the blue-eyed New Yorker with the nasal voice, is the polar opposite of Lionel Hutz. He's an extremely efficient soulless drone, someone who tends to win his cases even if his methods aren't particularly ethical.

In 2021, in the months leading to the release of "Space Jam: A New Legacy," the New York Times published an editorial which said cartoon character Pepé Le Pew "normalized rape culture." In that same piece, the author also wrote that Speedy Gonzales had friends who "helped popularize the corrosive stereotype of the drunk and lethargic Mexicans."
In recent years, "Looney Tunes" stopped featuring rifles in new portrayals of Elmer Fudd, so why couldn't change its portrayal of Pepé Le Pew or Speedy, too? While France did nothing to defend Le Pew, Latinos in the U.S. and across Latin America jumped at the chance to defend Speedy Gonzales from never saying "Ándale! Ándale! Arriba! Arriba!" again. Comedian Gabriel Iglesias, who voiced Speedy in "Space Jam 2," defended the character on social media.

TV crossovers have been a thing for the vast majority of the medium's history as a popular form of entertainment. From "The Jetsons" meeting "The Flinstones" to "The Simpsons" meeting the characters from "Futurama," there's a rich history here. But not every crossover is quite so obvious. For example, the Fox crime drama "Bones" ended up crossing with, oddly enough, Seth MacFarlane's animated sitcom "Family Guy." Bizarre though it may sound, both shows aired on the same network at the same time, and there was a good enough reason to bring these characters into the same universe at the time.
The episode in question was the second to last episode of "Bones" season 4, entitled "The Critic in the Cabernet." While the main plot involves human remains found inside a wine barrel during a tasting, the crossover has to do with the episode's B-plot. In the episode, Emily Deschanel's...

Although "The Simpsons" has a reputation as a show that's been dragged out long beyond its natural life span (never mind that it's still given us some banger episodes in recent seasons), it's worth noting that Fox easily could've milked the franchise way more than it has. As the show itself parodied in season 8's "The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase," there were all sorts of shameless spinoff ideas Fox easily might've tried. Why not attempt its own "Frasier" or "Better Call Saul" or "Young Sheldon"? With such a massive hit as "The Simpsons" on its hands, why was the 2007 movie the most ambitious thing we ever got?
Turns out, it wasn't for lack of trying. Fox was genuinely interested in cashing in even more on the success of "The Simpsons," and creator Matt Groening made at least some attempt to pitch them ideas. As "Simpsons" writer and former showrunner Mike Reiss...

Fox is foreclosing on Housebroken.
The broadcast network has opted to cancel the animated comedy after a two-season run.
From creators Gabrielle Allan, Jennifer Crittenden and Clea DuVall and featuring a star-studded voice cast that included Lisa Kudrow, Will Forte and Maria Bamford, the second season of the comedy wrapped in August 2023.
The cancellation, however, is not a surprise considering that animated shows take longer to produce, and if Fox wanted to bring back Housebroken, production on a third season should have begun months ago.
Sources say the network was pleased with the show’s creative, but the lackluster ratings — season two averaged a mere 1 million viewers among the all-important advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic — gave Fox executives little choice but to cancel it.
Fox owns the show and produces it in-house via its deal with Bento Box Entertainment, the animation company behind Bob’s Burgers.
