Dalton Harris found fame on X Factor in 2018. Kim Longinotto and Frank Murray Brown's moving documentary followed him for four years as he won hearts on the singing contest and attempted to convert that into a career. The Jamaican-born star had the sort of back story that audiences also lap up, including an impoverished childhood, but the documentarians don't go down the sensationalist route. Instead they allow Dalton time and space to tell his story, including his experience of homophobia in his homeland. A fine example of collaborative filmmaking that results in raw honesty from its subject as he tries to reconnect with his mum and improve his mental wellbeing.

John Carpenter has often proved a simple premise can pay dividends and does so here as a near-defunct police station comes.

As everyone knows, Tom Cruise leads an action-packed life akin to that of a movie star. The actor enjoys a good thrill, and he performs almost all of his own stunts. And it was his dedication that led him to accept one of his most prominent roles, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, in the 1986 action flick Top Gun.
So, in the case of this Paramount Pictures film, the actor had an unusual demand that ultimately saved the film from disaster. Well, after a less-than-ideal experience working with director Ridley Scott on the movie Legend, Cruise was understandably cautious about committing to a new project.
When producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer approached him with the script for Top Gun, Cruise liked it but felt that it “needed some work”.

Tom Cruise has portrayed unforgettable characters in numerous films, but Top Gun stands out as one of his most iconic performances. Despite his breathtaking stunts in the Mission: Impossible franchise and outstanding roles in other movies, Cruise’s portrayal of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun will be remembered for generations to come.

What makes the movie even more special is the mesmerizing aerial scenes and the way the movie captures the thrill and danger of naval aviation. Of all the contenders to play James Bond next, many would argue that Tom Hardy is effortlessly one of the best choices ever. His wit, charming demeanor, and overall personality make him stand out among everyone else and seem like the perfect choice to embody the peerless spy. Plus, he’s British, so that checks out another box of requirements for the character.

However, even after all these similarities, one thing still stands in the way between everyone deeming him to be the perfect choice for this role. This one thing is his 12-year-old $156 million box office disaster with Chris Pine, This Means War, which featured him as a CIA agent but failed to garner many appraisals for Hardy in the role because of his lackluster performance.

Prior to his seven-year stint on "Star Trek: Voyager," Robert Picardo had a lengthy and storied acting career. He was a Joe Dante regular, appearing in "The Howling," "The Explorers," "Innerspace," "The 'Burbs," "Matinee," and "Gremlins 2: The New Batch." He appeared in "Star 80," Ridley Scott's "Legend," the zombie cop film "Dead Heat," and Robert Englund's directorial debut "976-evil." This was all mixed in with plentiful TV work and multiple appearances on stage. Picardo has never been not busy, most recently appearing on a 2024 episode of "Young Sheldon."
Had Picardo never taken the "Star Trek" gig, he still would not have been hurting for work. "Voyager" just happened to be a sizable feather in his cap. "Voyager" simply boosted the actor's visibility and gained him legions of Trekkie fans. On "Voyager," Picardo played the U.S.S. Voyager's nameless Doctor, an Emergency Medical Hologram that had to...

Francis Lawrence's 2007 post-apocalyptic drama "I Am Legend" is based loosely on the celebrated 1954 novel by Richard Matheson. The original novel is set in the near future of 1976 when a destructive war has ravaged the Earth, and a horrible virus has infected the survivors. The virus transforms its victims into pale-skinned, nocturnal ghouls with an appetite for human blood, more or less making them vampires. The novel follows Robert Neville, seemingly the last human alive, as he tries to survive in a ravaged Los Angeles and study the virus during the daylight hours. The title comes from the novel's famous twist ending.
"I Am Legend" was adapted to film in 1964 as "The Last Man on Earth," and in 1971 as "The Omega Man," before Lawrence's 2007 version. Lawrence's version transposes the action to New York and makes Neville (Will Smith) into a surviving virologist attempting to come up with a cure for the vampire virus.

Growing up in a less-than-affluent household, it wasn’t until his 20s that Tom Cruise found his footing in Hollywood, thanks to 1983’s Risky Business. However, unlike Conor McGregor, who is said to have made history with his earnings from Doug Liman’s Road House remake, the Legend Star was paid considerably less for his debut role.
But while it was nowhere close to his later salaries, which saw the actor racking in millions, the Oscar-nominated actor used his first salary to perform an invaluable act for his sibling. Tom Cruise Put His Earnings From Risky Business to His Sister’s College Fees

While Tom Cruise would generally be paid hefty paychecks for starring in films, back in the ’80s, the actor earned a paycheck of $75K for his part in Risky Business (via Celebrity Networth) But instead of expending his first salary on extravagant gifts,...

Writer, director, and producer Ridley Scott has been making movies for decades, but one of his earliest features was also apparently one of his most difficult. The man behind "Napoleon" (read our review!) is no stranger to directing historical epics, real-world dramas, and even existential science-fiction, but in an interview with Wired in 2007, he revealed that the most difficult film to create was his 1982 science fiction classic, "Blade Runner." Loosely based on the 1968 Phillip K. Dick novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?," "Blade Runner" is a noirish sci-fi starring Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, who hunts down renegade android "replicants" in his job as a blade runner. In the course of hunting down a handful of such replicants that escaped from an off-world labor camp, he starts to question the very nature of humanity. It's heady, moody stuff, but it's also a deeply beloved film that inspired both a sequel and an animated series.

Tributes continue to pour in after the death this week of 101-year-old television pioneer Norman Lear.
Amid the celebration of and reflection on his towering legacy, a present-day realization has dawned about Lear’s singular catalog, which includes shows like All in the Family, The Jeffersons and Maude. With the exception of Sanford & Son and Good Times on Peacock and 227 on Hulu, no Lear-created show can be accessed on a subscription streaming outlet. Instead, some shows can be purchased for download and many stream on free, ad-supported services like Pluto, Freevee and Tubi.
Joe Adalian brought up the void Thursday in his Buffering newsletter for Vulture, noting that Lear shows like the trailblazing Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman are completely Mia.
Sony Pictures Entertainment, which controls rights to Lear’s catalog, declined to comment to Deadline on the streaming presence of his shows. The company’s CEO, Tony Vinciquerra,...

Give a sci-fi action script to either Ridley Scott or James Cameron and you're gonna get one hell of a movie. So it shouldn't be that surprising that both directors knocked it out of the park with their respective "Alien" films. Of course, Scott's original 1979 effort still reigns supreme, but if Cameron is known for anything besides consistently making obscene amounts of money at the box office and proving every single naysayer wrong, it's his ability to churn out some of the best sequels Hollywood has ever seen.
Such was the case with "Aliens," the 1986 follow-up to Scott's first movie that will soon be getting the full 4K Blu-ray release treatment along with some other classic James Cameron films. The sequel saw the return of Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley, who this time was at the center of a film that veered more into action blockbuster territory than the sci-fi horror of its predecessor.

Transport yourself to 1985, Shakin’ Stevens had the number one hit Merry Christmas Everyone, babycham and pina coladas were flowing, multi-coloured tinsel decorated every tree and the must have toys were Teddy Ruckspins, Cabbage Patch Dolls, Transformers, and Ataris.

During Monday’s special “The Road to the Playoffs” episode of “The Voice” Season 24, all four coaches had a blast performing together for the first time. Reba McEntire, Gwen Stefani, Niall Horan and John Legend belted out Eagles‘ “Take It Easy” on the big stage as they geared up for the next stage of the competition. Watch the fun video above, which includes a look behind the scenes at their (sometimes extremely close-up) performance.
Horan explains to the viewers, “When we got asked what song we wanted to do, myself and Reba just turned to each other and we were like, well, it needs to be country-leaning, a little bit more rocky probably.” It was his idea to do this song because, as he reveals, “The Eagles are my favorite band ever. Ridley Scott wasn’t offered the chance to make Alien 2 – and when James Cameron got the job, he wasn’t too happy.
We’ve been chatting for a few weeks on this site about how few filmmakers do a press tour quite like Ridley Scott. He’s – all due respect – in his mid-80s, and was hardly known for holding back when he was younger.
Now? If you ask him a question, you’re getting an answer. It’s really rather refreshing.
Scott is currently promoting his latest epic, Napoleon, before dashing back to finish off Gladiator 2. And in a long interview at Deadline, he was asked to reflect on the moment when he learned that there was going to be a sequel to his 1979 sci-fi classic, Alien, and that James Cameron was going to direct it.
Cameron, Scott recalled in his typical way – “Jim and I talk often.

Who were their picks? That, we won’t find out until Monday’s episode. In the meantime, let’s recap what may have been the KOs’ best night.

Tom Cruise has starred in several genre films in his long career. But there was one film genre he vowed to stay far away from after a horrible experience.
The movie Tom Cruise would never do again Tom Cruise | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Cruise doesn’t have too many fantasy adventure films under his belt. He dabbled with the genre in 1986 by starring in the Ridley Scott feature Legend. The movie saw Cruise playing a hero in a fantastical world that was threatened by the evil villain Darkness.
The Scott flick was already showing signs of trouble before hitting theaters. It seemed the feature was facing many delays in production that attracted much attention from the media. But the Mission Impossible star asserted the film’s production problems were being exaggerated.

It seems only apt that after decades at the top of her game, Michelle Yeoh finally triumphed at the Oscars this year with a performance that transcends both genres and languages. At times, Everything Everywhere All At Once even feels like a greatest hits montage of Yeoh’s already multi-faceted career – blending her most physical performances with her most emotional – going all-in on everything from her monstrous matriarchs to those hard-nosed cops; the delicate wuxia and the properly gnarly face-kicking.

Update, 11:25 Am: Disney+’s documentary Howard will not be removed from the service.
“The list of titles coming off of Hulu and Disney+ next week is still being finalized,” a rep for the company said, indicating that there could be additional changes.
As revealed by Canal+ last week, Howard was on the list of titles Disney had sent to its international partners, informing them that they will be taken off the platform May 26. The authenticity of the list was confirmed by Deadline.
Since the titles were made public yesterday, Disney had received backlash over the pending removal of Howard — about famous lyricist Howard Ashman, a gay man, who co-wrote the songs for Disney’s Little Mermaid animated classic — and its timing, on the eve of the release of the live-action Little Mermaid movie and LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese entreated exhibitors to show independent film — real indies, not ones with an indie “label slapped on,” since that’s the best insurance the industry has going foward. It’s what will beguile and attract new filmmakers to cinemas and “ultimately, one or two might just create the next blockbuster.”
“Getting younger people to enjoy the theatrical experience … on a screen that is bigger and more engaging than films they see home will make a difference,” the director said after receiving CinemaCon’s inaugural Legend of Cinema Award at a lunch Thursday. It was followed by a wide-ranging Q&a with his Killers of the Flower Moon Leonardo DiCaprio that touched on topics from his youth and early film influences, Queens, cinema history and the French and Italian New Wave to Citizen Kane and their latest movie.

The conversation about who could be the next James Bond is, seemingly, eternal. And we’re here to keep peddling that topic of discussion until the new 007 is officially announced (and then we’ll start talking about who could be the next Bond after that). Bond boss Barbara Broccoli has said that a new Bond film is some way off still but given that Daniel Craig‘s final outing as Britain’s best spy came in 2021 (“No Time to Die”), surely some news on the new Bond is coming soon? Either way, here are 30 actors we think would be incredible as agent 007.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson
Taylor-Johnson is fast becoming the bookies’ favorite. Broccoli said that they are looking for an actor to be Bond for around 15 years. At 32, Taylor-Johnson would tick that box. Plus, the actor has some experience in a big franchise — he starred as Pietro Maximoff in the MCU...

Emily Ratajkowski appears to be friendly with Harry Styles’ ex Olivia Wilde, but that didn’t stop her making out with the One Direction star over the weekend.
Ratajkowski and Styles were recently seen sharing a passionate smooch in Tokyo, just a couple of weeks after she posed with Wilde at the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars party and less than a year since the pair were seen dancing along to Styles’ hits at his Paris “Love On Tour” gig.

Chrissy Teigen has done this all before - the diaper changes, the late-night feedings, the bleary-eyed happiness. Except this time around, with baby number three, there's a new element at play: confidence.
"Always expect that everything's going to change and evolve," Teigen, 37, says with the wisdom of a seasoned parent. She and husband John Legend welcomed youngest daughter Esti Maxine on Jan. 13, adding to their brood, which already included son Miles, 4, and daughter Luna, 6. This assuredness is new-ish, though, Teigen admits. "I went into it very nervous with Luna. Of course, first baby, you're like, 'Oh my God, what do I have to expect? Can I hold her like this? My milk tastes gross to her. I had garlic. Is that going to give her gas?'" she recounts to Popsugar while speaking about her partnership with the Cord Blood Registry. "It's just like, there's so much to worry about the first time around.

Paul Grant opened up about “blowing” his Star Wars fortune and “drinking too much” in a video filmed just three weeks before his death.
The video is filmed at London’s King’s Cross station, where he collapsed on Thursday (16 March). He was pronounced braindead after being rushed to hospital and, three days later, his family decided to switch off his life support machine.
His family have paid tribute to the former actor and stuntman, who enjoyed success in the 1980s after playing an Ewok in the 1983 film Return of the Jedi.
That decade, he also appeared in the Tom Cruise film Legend and Labyrinth opposite David Bowie.
Three weeks before his death, Grant was seemingly interviewed at random by YouTube channel Revelation 22:13 in King’s Cross station, and surprised the interviewer by revealing he played an Ewok in the Star Wars franchise.
