Due to a mix-up in the laboratory, only part of the film was processed and returned to Polanski; the student director was devastated as he was very proud of what he'd shot.
The film is now considered to be lost. Its screenplay was a recreation of a true traumatic incident in Polanski's life, when, at age 16, he was assaulted and left for dead in an abandoned WW2 bunker located in Krakow, Poland. Polanski's assailant, a serial killer named Janusz Dziuba (a.k.a. Janusz Zenatowicz) was captured and sentenced to death.
