Filming on Daredevil revival Daredevil: Born Again has been on hold for the time being due to the Hollywood strikes, and there’s no word about a Jessica Jones reboot happening anytime soon, but the shows’ three stars, Vincent D’Onofrio, Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter, reunited at GalaxyCon Austin over the weekend and posed for a very fun photo. They also appeared in a live Q&a and autograph signing. See the photo, posted by D’Onofro on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Written and executive produced by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, who cannot provide writing services on set due to the strike, the new installment, Daredevil: Born Again, centers on Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, otherwise known as Matt Murdock, an attorney by day and crimefighter by night. If she could do “Project Greenlight” again, executive producer Issa Rae told IndieWire, she wouldn’t do a genre film.
On the same day that Max dropped the 10-episode reality series about a first-time filmmaker’s journey to the screen, the streamer also dropped “Gray Matter,” the sci-fi thriller that director Meko Winbush shot in 18 days while “Greenlight” documented the process. At a tight 86 minutes, the film is visually compelling and makes sound use of its lead actors — a solid debut for Winbush and ultimate victory for “Greenlight.”
“Gray Matter” is primarily the story of mother Ayla (Jessica Frances Dukes) and daughter Aurora (Mia Isaac), two superpowered beings living in isolation while Ayla hounds her daughter to control and conceal what she can do. Her fears are substantiated but concealed from Aurora, prompting the lonely teen to sneak out of the house to disastrous effect. Aurora wakes up in the...

For aspiring filmmakers, appreciators of how the sausage is made and lovers of atypically blunt reality messiness, “Project Greenlight: A New Generation” is essential viewing. From the Max reboot’s welcome focus on inclusive expansion, its gutsy willingness to show its subjects’ warts in extreme close-up and ultimate promise for a better tomorrow, this is easily the best season of the reality show, which first aired in 2001, and will easily be the best reality show of the year.
Gone are original producers and sometimes on-camera superstars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. In their place are new producers and mentors Kumail Nanjiani, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Issa Rae (who even makes a joke about Damon and Affleck “rolling in their graves”). Their goal is simple on paper, and borderline Sisyphean in execution: Give a first-time feature filmmaker a low-budget genre film to make, and document the entire process from pre-production to premiere.

"Who are you running from!?" "Devil..." Paramount Movies has revealed the trailer for an indie western horror thriller titled Organ Trail – yes that title is a purposeful riff on the ol' Oregon Trail. Hopefully no one dies of dysentery watching this junk film... Abigale and her family fall victim to a ruthless gang while making their way across the Oregon Trail. If she can? Starring Zoé De Grand Maison, Nicholas Logan, Mather Zickel and Olivia Applegate, with Clé Bennett, Sam Trammell, and Jessica Frances Dukes. This seems like a mess of a genre film, with tons of tropes & twists thrown in for no good reason. Probably not worth a watch. // Continue Reading ›...

It's hard to believe it, but Ozark has wrapped its run.
After four seasons of a pressure cooker-like environment, the Netflix juggernaut wrapped its run late last month.
Naturally, there are questions about whether the franchise could continue with a spinoff.
“It’s definitely something that people have talked about a bunch,” showrunner Chris Munday shared in an interview with TV Line.
“There’s nothing definitive. We’re lucky that people seem to really like the show so there’s obviously going to be some interest there.”
The shocking finale said goodbye to fan-favorite Ruth (Julia Garner), who was killed off.
Given the interest in that character, there had been rumblings pre-finale that Garner could reprise the role in a new series.
“There are still ways to stay inside the show and revisit things,” Mundy said.
“I’m sure people probably would’ve been happier if Ruth was out there.

With 34 productions eligible for this year’s Tony Awards, there were plenty of names missing when nominations were announced on Monday morning. Among the most surprising 2022 Tony Awards nominations snubs was Katrina Lenk, who plays Bobbie in Marianne Elliott’s reimagining of the late Stephen Sondheim’s “Company.” The production merited nine nominations, including Best Musical Revival, Best Director, Best Featured Actor (Matt Doyle), and Best Featured Actress. Lenk previously won a Tony Award for her performance in Best Musical-winner “The Band’s Visit.”

‘for colored girls’ reviews celebrate ‘riveting’ Broadway revival and ‘resplendent’ Kenita R. Miller
Forty-six years after the original production of Ntozake Shange’s legendary choreopoem “for colored girls who have considered suicide/ when the rainbow is enuf,” a sterling revival has returned to Broadway in the very same house where the original ran for nearly two years. Shange’s classic work consists of poems performed by seven different Black women – identified as different colors of the rainbow – that chronicle their joys, triumphs, and struggles. This mounting features the work of Tony-nominated choreographer Camille A. Brown, who also directs. The revival opened on April 20 at the Booth Theatre.
The ensemble cast stars Amara Granderson, Tendayi Kuumba, Kenita R. Miller, Okwui Okpokwasili, Stacey Sargeant, Alexandria Wailes, and D. Woods, the majority of whom are making their Broadway debuts. The Byrde family makes one last effort to escape their criminal empire in the Season 4 Part 2 trailer of “Ozark.” The series will come to an explosive finish on April 29 when the final seven episodes debut on Netflix.
According to the official logline: “Marty and Wendy are rid of Helen and climb to the top of Navarro’s empire. They find another opportunity to get out of the Ozarks but some past sins won’t stay buried and the most dangerous threats come from blood.”
In the trailer, Marty (Jason Bateman) fears for the survival of his family as Ruth (Julia Garner) seeks revenge. “I’m just sick of having blood on my hands, Wendy. It doesn’t bother you?” Marty says, to which Wendy (Laura Linney) responds, “You’re so desperate to be the good guy.”

Netflix has released the official trailer for “Ozark” Season 4 Part 2, but if you’re fearful of spoilers you may want to hold off on watching — this one seems to potentially show a bit too much footage.
The fourth and final season of the Emmy-winning series was split in half, with the first batch of episodes dropping in January and leaving viewers on a whopper of a cliffhanger: Julia Garner’s Ruth Langmore, distraught by the murder of her cousin Wyatt, appeared to be on her way to murder new cartel boss Javier (Alfonso Herrera).
In the full trailer for Part 2, we see where that road leads. There are also rising tensions between Jason Bateman’s Marty Byrde and Laura Linney’s Wendy Byrde. “You’re so desperate to be the good guy,” Wendy tells Marty, while the two are clearly at the breaking point in their money laundering empire.

Not quite two years will have passed between the release of “Ozark” Season 3 on Netflix and the upcoming premiere of Season 4 on January 21 — but for fans, that’s a very long time to wait to find out what is next for Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney).
Now at least fans have some clues. Netflix released a trailer January 6 for the first seven episodes of Season 4. (The second seven episodes will stream at a later date.) Here, Marty and Wendy seem poised to be free of their obligation to drug kingpin Omar Novarro — if they can just fulfill a few more small demands. Watch the trailer in the video below, which also teases a tense standoff with the FBI, more Julia Garner intensity, and Linney serving cool ruthlessness.

Netflix has debuted a trailer for Part 1 of the fourth and final season of “Ozark,” which premieres on Jan. 21.
The series stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney as Marty and Wendy Byrde, who get entangled with the local criminals of the Ozarks in Missouri after moving there to continue their money laundering scheme. Season 4 will follow the couple after the killing of Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer), an attorney for the Navarro drug cartel. Omar Navarro (Felix Solis) brings Marty and Wendy further into the operation while they try to escape the Ozarks, but their past continues to haunt them.
“The Navarro cartel has been made aware that you intend to start producing heroin again,” Marty says to Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) in the trailer. “They have instructed us to warn you their response is gonna be quick, and it’s gonna be brutal.”
“We’re just the messengers here,” adds Wendy.

Many plays and musicals have had to wait a long year and a half to open on Broadway, with premieres delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic. But none are more overdue than Alice Childress’ “Trouble in Mind.” First staged in 1955, the play never arrived on Broadway until now. After almost seven decades, “Trouble in Mind” opened at the Roundabout Theatre Company’s American Airlines Theatre on Nov. 18.
“Trouble In Mind” centers on the rehearsals of a poorly-written play about lynching in the South penned by a white playwright. Tony Award winner Lachanze stars as Wiletta, an actress in the play who knows how to navigate the racism of show business but is becoming increasingly exasperated doing so, especially as she works with condescending director Al Manners, played by Michael Zegen. Charles Randolph-Wright directs the ensemble cast.

Sixty-four years late and right on time, Alice Childress’ wise and stirring backstage comedy-drama Trouble in Mind is making its long-in-coming Broadway debut tonight, and to describe the play as prescient would be an understatement. Uncanny rings truer.
With a star turn by Lachanze that takes a strong place in a theatrical season already formidable in its roster of performances, Trouble in Mind takes a behind-the-curtain look at the racism, coded prejudice, self-flattery, sexism and built-in bigotry that Broadway has always professed to eschew.
Childress, who died in 1994, knew better, and her insights fuel Trouble in Mind. First staged to acclaim Off Broadway in 1955, the play, about a Black actress in a big Broadway play who must choose between truth and security, was optioned by producers to open on Broadway in 1957 – if only Childress would write a more upbeat and forgiving ending. She chose truth.

Veronica Falcón and Ali Stroker have joined the cast for the fourth and final season of Netflix’s drama series Ozark, starring and executive produced by Jason Bateman.
Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams, Ozark is a thrilling drama set in the present-day and follows the Byrde family’s journey from their normal, suburban Chicago life to their dangerous criminal enterprise in the Missouri Ozarks. The series explores capitalism, family dynamics, and survival through the eyes of (anything but) ordinary Americans.
Queen of the South alum Falcón will recur as Camila Elizonndro. She is the sister of drug cartel leader Omar Navarro (Felix Solis) whose son Javi Elizonndro (Alfonso Herrera) is scheming to take over his uncle’s cartel. Once she acknowledges her long dormant ambition, Camila quietly works behind the scenes to become a formidable player in her family’s drug empire.

Netflix will close out the saga of the Byrde family when Ozark returns to the streaming platform for its fourth and final season. While fans and viewers hoped for more seasons, during a SAG Awards Panel on Wednesday, cast members Jessica Frances Dukes, Felix Solis, Skylar Gaertner and Madison Thompson said that it only makes sense for series to end with its fourth season.
“All good things must come to an end. This was a good job that must come to an end,” said Solis, who appears as Omar Navarro. “We don’t want to wait until it’s not good for it end.”
Thompson, who plays Erin Pierce, said that bringing Ozark to an end with its fourth season feels like “the best of both worlds,” in that it won’t draw out the Emmy-winning series more than it needs, preserving the storylines and drama fans have come to love.
