The 15x Emmy-winning series had her playing the role of Mia, a seductive, piano-playing chanteuse looking to build her business on the grounds of The White Lotus Sicily, who’s best friends with Tabasco’s prostitute, Lucia Greco. For her performance as part of the starry ensemble, the actress was recognized with a SAG Award in 2023.

Apple TV’s flagship series “The Morning Show” returned last fall with its third season and with it comes the show’s best cast to date. Nicole Beharie, Jon Hamm, Tig Notaro, and Stephen Fry all joined the cast while mainstays Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Billy Crudup all turned in their best work yet.
However, it’s the show’s supporting players, who have been here since day one, that makes the series so good. Karen Pittman is a prime example of that. The series depicts the behind-the-scenes drama of a US morning TV show and Pittman plays Mia Jordan, a key producer of said show. Pittman has always been an actress who possesses a powerful screen presence and that is true here, too. She captivates audiences (and the other actors) but also smartly sews vulnerability into a character who has some power in the show.

2024 is half over and while we have seen some brilliant horror films come out this year I don’t think it has been such a great year for the genre. With most horror films flopping at the box office and the dreaded Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey sequel coming out it all felt wrong. But don’t worry because I have picked out the 10 best horror films that have come out this year. I haven’t ranked the films in the article and I will update the list as more films come out.
Late Night with the Devil (AMC+ & Prime Video Add-On)
Late Night with the Devil is a supernatural horror film written and directed by Colin and Cameron Cairnes. The 2024 film is set in 1977 and it follows the story of Jack Delroy, a talk show host on Night Owl which was watched by the insomniacs all around the country.

A lot of movies (and TV shows) are too damn dark these days. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sat down to watch something made in recent years to end up gradually getting frustrated that I can barely see anything on the screen. Usually, it seems intentional, like directors want you to struggle to see the image for some reason. It was jarring when we saw how dark Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem was, but now that seems to be normal. But the overwhelming darkness isn’t always intentional – for example, director Michael Mohan has taken to social media to let viewers know that his psychological horror film Immaculate (you can read our review Here) was not meant to be as dark as it is on most streaming services.

Sydney Sweeney is an up-and-coming young actor who has taken the world by storm because of her brilliant talent. The American actress has been acting from a young age and she has been around the industry for a long time. She has been doing small roles in many big movies but got her big break because of shows like Everything Sucks! and Sharp Objects, but her stardom reached a new level after her HBO series Euphoria came out.
Sweeney has also enjoyed a healthy film career and has her own production company, Fifty-Fifty Films which recently produced the psychological horror film Immaculate while she did technically appear in a Marvel film known as Madame Web, let’s ignore that film as best we can. So, if you are also a fan of Sweeney and want to all of her best performances here are the 10 best films and shows she has...

Immaculate is a movie starring Sydney Sweeney with Álvaro Morte and Simona Tabasco. It is directed by Michael Mohan.
“Immaculate” emerges as a commendable horror flick, blending all the timeless elements against a backdrop that almost never fails to chill its audience: a convent. Set in Italy around the mid-20th century, it provides an atmospheric setting that adds depth to the narrative.
While the plot may tread familiar ground and might not offer many surprises, both lead actress Sydney Sweeney and director Michael Mohan go to great lengths to ensure the film crosses the finish line as both entertaining and, at intervals, genuinely frightening.
Plot Overview
The story introduces us to a novice nun arriving at a new convent. Welcomed by a seemingly kind-hearted priest, she soon plunges into a world of nightmarish visions and sinister thoughts. To her shock, she discovers she’s pregnant, despite vehemently claiming no relations with any man.

In his review of the new horror film Immaculate (you can read it Here), JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray said the movie – which reunites Sydney Sweeney with Michael Mohan, who directed her in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs and the Netflix series Everything Sucks! – is “a decent throwback to Dario Argento-style Italian horror movies.” During a recent post-screening Q&a at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Boston Seaport, Mohan also revealed that one particular scene in the movie was inspired by the work one of my favorite grindhouse era filmmakers, Jack Hill – and that same scene also had to be salvaged with the help of Saw X director Kevin Greutert!
Our friends at Bloody Disgusting shared the information from the Q&A, reporting that Mohan said, “The biggest scene that did not work and I’m still not happy with is the scene when Isabelle tries to drown Cecilia. I studied a...

“Immaculate” marks the latest project to star Sydney Sweeney, who is known for television shows like “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus” and Sony’s latest superhero endeavor “Madame Web.” Sweeney also made up half of the dynamic duo — alongside Glen Powell — that brought “Anyone but You” to box office success, and just as she produced that rom-com, she’s a producer on the horror film “Immaculate.”
Director Michael Mohan had high praises for Sweeney, whom he has worked with before. The director was inspired by “The Devils” (1971) directed by Ken Russell as well as other Italian horror films to shape the story of Sweeney’s Cecelia.

To say that modern human society has issues with organized religion is an understatement. Make no mistake: faith is a beautiful and often necessary component of living, if only to help ease the burdens that are foisted upon every one of us on a daily basis. There can be such great comfort in believing that there's a divine presence in the universe, whether it's something that makes everything happen for an unfathomable reason or whether it's something that is perhaps testing us, putting all of us through our moral paces before we perhaps receive peace in the afterlife.
However, there's no denying that these beautiful and healthy aspects of religion have been woefully corrupted by eons of human weakness, frailty, bigotry, misogyny, and much else. As many people these days rightfully point out, a number of the current tenets of American Catholicism and...

Actress Sydney Sweeney decided to play the Horror edition of F**k, Marry, Kill game with fellow actress Simona Tabasco in order to promote their 2024 movie Immaculate. The game gave Sweeney and Tabasco a wide variety of characters from popular horror movies and they had to decide who they wanted to f**k, marry or kill.

Judging by her choices, it seems like Sweeney is attracted to masked men as she chose to f**k Michael Meyers when she was asked to choose between Leatherface, Ghostface, and Michael Meyers. Earlier in the game, Tabasco and Sweeney agreed that they would have s*x with Jack Torrence from The Shining because they thought he was hot.

When season two of Euphoria was airing in early 2022, social media was filled with memes of Sydney Sweeney’s terrified expressions in the show, as the internet declared the star needed to be put in a horror movie as soon as possible. It turns out she was already working on it, in the form of her latest film, Immaculate.
“I already had the script so I was really excited to see everybody’s reactions to Euphoria season two and everybody being like, ‘A horror film! Give us a horror film!'” Sweeney told The Hollywood Reporter at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere at Beyond Fest on Friday. “I was like, ‘Just you wait! I have something in store for you.’ I held onto it for a long time.”
A long time is an understatement, as she initially auditioned for the project a decade ago, but the movie was never made.

In director Michael Mohan’s Immaculate, evil lies not in the efforts of Satan and his demons but solely within the hearts of the men running a convent in the Italian countryside and, to a lesser degree, the women who answer directly to them. In the opening scene, we witness a terrified young nun (Simona Tabasco) desperately trying to escape the convent, only to be hunted down and restrained by a creepy quartet of red-masked nuns. From this point on, it’s abundantly clear that something is off at Our Lady of Sorrows, even if it takes a young American nun, Cecilia (Sydney Sweeney), who’s freshly arrived at the convent, quite a while to figure out that serious trouble is brewing in this little corner of paradise.
While Cecilia arrives in Italy as a doe-eyed innocent, even she’s all too aware of the Catholic Church’s recent scandals,...

Ever since resurrecting the erotic thriller with the respectably lurid 2021 drama “The Voyeurs,” it was clear Sydney Sweeney and director Michael Mohan were interested in second comings. So it was only a matter of time before they’d turn their attention to Christ himself in “Immaculate,” an enjoyable if uneven horror film cut from a slightly different cloth than its religious brethren with a captivating turn from its star as a virginal nun whose pregnancy inspires questions beyond the health of the child, and a hell of an ending.
Refreshingly free of the pseudo-theology that usually bogs down films set inside the church, “Immaculate” simply suggests that My Lady of Sorrows is no place for a young woman. A resting home for older sisters to spend their final days, it seems from the nun (Simona Tabasco) trying to make a break for it in its energetic opening sequence, age doesn...

When the police stop the young woman on her way to the convent in the Italian countryside, they wonder why such a person would choose to become a nun. As they rummage through her luggage — a search conducted because she has no return ticket — they ask, in English, if joining a convent was a difficult choice. The woman scans their faces in confusion before responding: “I don’t see it as a decision,” she says with bitter force.

In the realm of religious horror, one filled with tales of divine terror, Immaculate emerges as the latest contender. Yet despite its promising setup within the shadowy confines of an Italian nunnery and a cast led by Sydney Sweeney, the film struggles to carve out a niche for itself. Directed by Michael Mohan and written by Andrew Lobel, the movie treads familiar ground, recycling familiar elements without delivering the novel twists, deeper insights or genuine horror in a genre that thrives on the exploration of faith’s darker dimensions.
The opening scene grips the audience with a woman’s desperate attempt to escape from a nunnery, only to be thwarted and mysteriously buried alive. The story then shifts to Sister Cecilia (Sweeney), a novitiate embarking on her spiritual journey at the nunnery, undeterred by skepticism at customs and cautionary advice from Sister Mary (Simona Tabasco) about her vows. A horror movie set in an Italian convent with a title like Immaculate communicates all there is to know about the plot. A young American nun, Cecilia (Sydney Sweeney), travels to her new post in the remote countryside, only to discover she’s miraculously pregnant soon after taking her vows. Director Michael Mohan and screenwriter Andrew Lobel pack in the Italian horror influences, with Suspiria largely presiding over this religious horror entry and blasphemous imagery in spades. But the film’s breakneck plotting, inert jump scare overreliance, and familiar tropes undermine a fierce performance by its lead.
Despite the stunning, labyrinthine, and ornate halls of the sprawling convent, the cast of characters in Immaculate is rather small. The sweet fish-out-of-water Sister Cecilia instantly bonds with Father Sal (Álvaro Morte) and the feisty Sister Gwen (Benedetta Porcaroli) yet draws angry stares from Sister Mary (Simona Tabasco). Toss in a few eccentric or stern Church elders,...

Last month, the Motion Picture Association ratings board announced that they had given the psychological horror film Immaculate, which reunites Sydney Sweeney with Michael Mohan, who directed her in the erotic thriller The Voyeurs and the Netflix series Everything Sucks!, an R rating for strong and bloody violent content, grisly images, nudity and some language. Now, in an interview with Variety, Mohan has promised that the film gets extreme, just like that rating explanation indicated.
Scripted by Andrew Lobel, Immaculate sees Sweeney taking on the role of Cecilia, a woman of devout faith who is offered a fulfilling new role at an illustrious Italian convent. Fresh off her recent stint hosting “Saturday Night Live,” Sydney Sweeney made her way to Austin and SXSW for the world premiere of her new religious horror film “Immaculate” — and on Tuesday night, she had the crowd screaming (and laughing at their own reactions) at the Paramount Theatre.
The jump scares, in particular, had the entire theater jumping — and then giggling at their own fear. “Immaculate” leans into horror but also has plenty of moments of dark humor.
“I think that you really truly care about the characters and story,” Sweeney said during the on-stage conversation after the screening. “Yes, we wanted you guys all to jump in your seats and be hopefully horrified shitless. But you still care about the story.”
Neon is behind “Immaculate,” while Sweeney also produced the movie with Black Bear and Middle Child Pictures. The film is set to be released on March 22.

Best Drama Supporting Actress is the only Emmy acting category “The Morning Show” has yet to crack, but it’s now the one the series could dominate like only one other show has managed to. Nicole Beharie, Greta Lee, Julianna Margulies, Karen Pittman and Holland Taylor are all eligible for the Apple TV+ drama in the category this year, and if they all make the cut, “The Morning Show” will join “The White Lotus: Sicily” as the only shows to nab five drama supporting actress nominations in a single year.
“The White Lotus: Sicily” set the record last year with bids for Meghann Fahy, Sabrina Impacciatore, Aubrey Plaza, Simona Tabasco and eventual champ Jennifer Coolidge. Before that, the record for a series in the category was four nominees in one year, which only two shows had been able to field: “Game of Thrones” in 2019 and “The Handmaid’s Tale” in 2021.
