Since the final curtain dropped on This Is Us in 2022, viewers still can’t emotionally let go of the fictional Pearson family. The NBC series continues to stream on Hulu, attracting new followers who’ve become deeply involved in its heartfelt, family-centric storylines. ‘This Is Us’ stars celebrate a major life moment
Many This Is Us actors continue to celebrate the close bond they forged throughout the six seasons of the titular NBC family drama. Therefore, it was a pleasant surprise when three reunited to celebrate a significant life moment that tragically wasn’t played out on the series.
Milo Ventimiglia, who played Pearson family patriarch Jack, attended the college graduation of his TV son Niles Fitch (Randall Pearson). The duo was joined by Hannah Zeile, who portrayed Kate Pearson.

When Richard Thomas first played the role of John-Boy Walton over 50 years ago, he thought that he would be the one reading the narration in the show. That turned out to be more of a dream, as it was quickly decided that the show’s creator and writer, Earl Hamner Jr., would be the one performing the narration. “However, 50 years later, I get to do the narration,” declares Thomas in an exclusive video interview with Gold Derby about “The Waltons: Homecoming.”
The CW Network film is a reimagining of “The Homecoming: A Christmas Story,” the 1971 television film that first introduced audiences to the Walton family. Thomas played the role of eldest son John-Boy in both that film and the subsequent long-running drama series that followed, “The Waltons.” The drama earned 13 Emmys over the course of its nine year run, including a Best Drama Actor win for Thomas in 1973. “It represented a kind of happiness that looked promising and real and accessible,” argues Gentry Akens about the appeal of “The Waltons.” Akens served as production designer of “The Waltons: Homecoming,” a 2021 holiday film that is a reimagining of the original 1971 movie that introduced audiences to the Walton family. That original film spawned the classic CBS drama that ran from 1972 to 1981 and won 13 Emmys. This new television film stars Bellamy Young as matriarch Olivia Walton and Logan Shroyer as John-Boy. “I loved ‘The Waltons’ as a kid, and every time on Thursday that we heard the music, we all rushed to the living room to sit down in front of the television,” reveals Sam Haskell. He returned to the nostalgia of his childhood favorite series to produce the popular TV movie “The Waltons: Homecoming,” which aired this past November on The CW Network. In our recent webchat he adds, “Two and a half years ago, we started working on the rights, going to the family. Earl Hamner‘s wife Jane is now in her 90s, and they have all these attorneys around them protecting it. I spoke to everyone single one of them.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Submissions for the fourth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards will open Feb. 21, the Critics Choice Association and nonfiction producers organization Npact announced Friday.
First launched in 2019, the Real TV Awards were established as way of providing the growing nonfiction TV sphere critical attention and support. The awards celebrate programming across streaming and linear platforms, and honor industry leaders for their work in advancing unscripted television.
This year’s Real TV Awards ceremony will honor shows that premiered at least six episodes between June 1, 2021 and May 31, 2022. To be eligible, the show will have needed to be available to at least 50% of the total U.S. TV market. Submissions for nomination consideration will open Feb. 21 and close May 6, with the nominations announced May 25.
For the first time since the inaugural ceremony, the Real TV Awards will be held in person, after the Covid-19 pandemic caused the last two to be held virtually.

On the heels of the Thanksgiving holiday, Christmas came early for the CW as its premiere of The Waltons’ Homecoming brought the network its highest viewership of the 2021-2022 season.
Starring Bellamy Young, Richard Thomas, Logan Shroyer and more, The Waltons’ Homecoming premiered to approximately 0.96 million viewers and scored a 0.1 rating in the 18-49 demo, per fast affiliates. Though not necessarily strong enough to top Sunday primetime, the CW’s first ever made-for-tv-movie made for the network’s most watched night since April 14, 2021.
Unsurprisingly, NBC’s coverage of Sunday Night Football topped primetime. Last night’s game between the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens was up significantly from last week. The Ravens won 16-10. The night’s top viewership went to The Ot on Fox, which followed regional coverage of various games. Football numbers are set to rise pending adjustments, as is the case with most major live events.

The CW this Sunday night commemorated the 50th anniversary of The Homecoming: A Christmas Story — the 1971 TV-movie that wound up siring The Waltons — with a remake. But did it evoke enough folksy charm?
As with the source material, and set in 1933, The CW’s The Waltons’ Homecoming found the titular family readying for Christmas but also waiting… and waiting… for patriarch John Sr. (played by Ben Lawson) to come home for the holiday from his far-away job. (John’s already long bus ride was further slowed by a brewing snow storm, and is eventually derailed when the bus skids off an icy road.

There seems to be a yearning for nostalgia in entertainment these days, given that our daily headlines are rarely upbeat and heartwarming, what with the country’s deeply ingrained political divisions as well as the ongoing threat of the Covid-19 pandemic. That might be why TV execs have been capitalizing on their audience’s hunger for comfort viewing with revivals of hits from past, ranging from “Sex and the City” and “Dexter” to “The Wonder Years” and “Gossip Girl.”
However, this holiday season will get a one-night only treat when the CW presents a new version of an early ‘70s classic, “The Waltons’ Homecoming.” The two-hour film that airs on November 28 at 8 p.m. features actor Richard Thomas, who played John-Boy in the original CBS TV series that premiered in 1972 for nine seasons and launched six more reunion movies for NBC. The Walton family is back for the CW’s The Waltons’ Homecoming, premiering Nov. 28, and Richard Thomas — the original John Boy Walton — is celebrating the new chapter. Thomas will serve as the narrator on Homecoming while passing the baton to Logan Shroyer, 2021’s John Boy.
Thomas reflected on what the world was like when the original CBS series about faith and family aired from 1971-82 and why now is the perfect time to bring it back.
“When we did the series originally, this country, we were very split because of all the issues going on.” He said during a press Zoom chat Wednesday. “The line went right down the middle of the dinner table, a lot of the time. It was the beginning of a sort of balkanization where the demographic was split within the household. There were more televisions. So one of the great things about the show was that it brought people together.
