We are living in a time when Hollywood is actually making a lot of musical biopics, so it does not surprise us that one of the biggest musical artists of all time, Michael Jackson, will also be the center of an upcoming biopic. Lionsgate has acquired the rights to his story, and the upcoming film Michael is currently set for an April 18, 2025 release. The movie is a gamble due to Jackson being a controversial figure, but from what we can deduce, the executives at Lionsgate have a lot of confidence in the project.
Jim Packer, president of worldwide television distribution at Lionsgate, recently talked to the media and revealed his enthusiasm over the upcoming film, claiming that it will be Lionsgate’s biggest project of all time!
Packer told the media about his confidence in the movie, going as far as to claim that it is the studio’s biggest project ever.

As part of Sony's celebration of Columbia Pictures' 100th anniversary, every live-action Spider-Man movie is swinging back into theaters.
Dropping every Monday as part of the studio's "Spider-Mondays," we've seen over the past 5 weeks that there's a real appetite among moviegoers to see the wall-crawler back on the big screen.
Unfortunately, Spider-Man: Homecoming webbed up the lowest box office haul to date with a disappointing $285,000 opening day. With 466 theaters in the U.S. screening the movie, that works out to a far from amazing $612 per theater average.
Some will likely jump on this news to tear into the MCU, forgetting that Marvel Studios actually saved Spidey back in 2017 (following his memorable debut the year prior in Captain America: Civil War).
Understandably, there's less interest in seeing Tom Holland's Spider-Man back on the big screen because he's really not been gone that long. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and...

It’s been 100 years since ink first flowed through Montblanc’s Meisterstück, the fountain pen wielded by the likes of Nelson Mandela, Yoko Ono, Presidents Barack Obama and John F. Kennedy, and others.
To mark the luxe instrument‘s centennial, the German luxury house took over Los Angeles’ Paramour Estate (once the home of silent movie star Antonio Moreno) for a starry soirée to launch a new global campaign conceived by Wes Anderson — complete with a red carpet inspired by the short film’s alpine setting.
Though the Oscar-winning filmmaker was absent (he was busy filming in Berlin), campaign co-stars Jason Schwartzman and Rupert Friend were on hand for a seated dinner alongside guests Adrien Brody, Maude Apatow, Emma Roberts (who requested a custom sketch from on-site artist Kevin Zych), Simu Liu (who was seen sneaking a peek inside the hilltop manse’s speakeasy), Kiernan Shipka, Waris Ahluwalia, Dylan Sprouse,...

Exclusive: Derek Luke (Antwone Fisher) is the latest addition to Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic that Antoine Fuqua is directing for Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International, sources tell Deadline.

Hollywood has been obsessed with biopics for what seems like forever, but it's hard not to admit that our current film landscape is reaching critical mass with movies about famous people. I guess when they've run out of recognizable IP, they've gotta center stories about recognizable faces instead. Last year alone we saw "Maestro," "The Iron Claw," "Napoleon," "Ferrari," "Nyad," "Priscilla," and "Big George Forman," not to mention brand movies like "Blackberry," "Tetris," "Air," and "Barbie." And then, of course, there's "Oppenheimer," which not only took home seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, but also became the highest-grossing biopic of all time. No shade to our boy Oppy, but it seems like a new film from Antoine Fuqua is coming for that title and the fact it's a movie about the most famous musical performer to ever live certainly gives the project a leg up on the father of the atomic bomb.

Not everyone is thrilled that there’s a biopic being made about pop sensation Michael Jackson. The director of “Leaving Neverland,” the HBO documentary that delves into accusations of Jackson’s alleged child abuse, last month accused director Antoine Fuqua’s film of being “a complete whitewash” and that it aims to “completely rewrite the allegations and dismiss them out of hand.”
However at CinemaCon on Wednesday, “Michael” producer Graham King took the stage to say that the new biopic, currently in production, “will get into all of it.”
King promised “Michael” includes 30 songs and recreations of Jackson’s performances throughout his career but also depictions of “his life outside the public eye, things many people have never seen before.”
“Everyone has an opinion on him,” King said about Mj, acknowledging the blinding accusations that surrounded his career, saying that ultimately the film is a portrait of a “complex” man,...

“Michael,” the upcoming biopic about pop legend Michael Jackson that seems guaranteed to spark conversation, debuted a dazzling and emotional first look at CinemaCon during Lionsgate’s presentation to theater owners on Thursday in Las Vegas.
The sweeping footage starts as hysterical fans scream along to Jackson as he owns the stage, flashing between performances of his biggest hits like “Man in the Mirror” and “Thriller.” The movie, which is still in production, will feature over 30 songs and recreate several performances of them, starting with Jackson 5’s classic rendition of “ABC” on “American Bandstand.”
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, “Michael” promises to be a sweeping look at the musician’s life, including the emotional toll that being a superstar took on the shy and private man behind the moonwalk. The trailer also captures Jackson as he’s stalked by adoring crowds and paparazzi.

The season of the very first sign of the zodiac is here, and that’s exactly why being a leader comes so easy for Aries folks.
And that’s no joke, Aries really don’t know what else to be but a boss, CEO or innovator, because they’d rather play by their own rules. They march to the beat of their own drum and rarely ever need anyone to play backup instrumentals. Their charm, playful personality and great sense of humor make up for their impulsiveness and sometimes hot-temper, and there’s absolutely no other sign who will keep it all the way real with you like an Aries does, even if it’s something you don’t want to hear. They tell it like it is, as dishonesty goes against their entire m.o.

The upcoming Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” is embracing the Motown sound — announcing key castings including Larenz Tate as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy and Kat Graham as the legendary Diana Ross.
As the film chronicles Jackson’s rise to prominence — first as a member of the Jackson 5, then as a solo artist — the record label will factor in significantly. “Power” franchise star Tate (who coincidentally played “Thriller” producer Quincy Jones in 2004’s “Ray”) takes on the Motown impresario Gordy, who redefined American music by platforming such acts as the Jackson 5, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops, Gladys Knight and the Pips and Diana Ross & the Supremes.
Graham portrays Ross, who, as lead singer of the chart-topping group, was asked to officially introduce the Jackson 5 to the world and remained a lifelong influence on Michael Jackson.

“Michael,” the splashy forthcoming biopic about Michael Jackson from director Antoine Fuqua, has added actor Laura Harrier in a key role.
Harrier, of “BlacKkKlansman” and “Spider-man: Homecoming” fame, will portray pioneering female music executive Suzanne de Passe in the Lionsgate project.
De Passe was a creative assistant to Motown founder Berry Gordy, and is credited with convincing Gordy to sign The Jackson 5 to his label. De Passe costumed the world famous family group in early days, and later played a critical role in bringing the band and other Motown sensations to live television. She worked closely with Michael Jackson from childhood, standing by him as a teacher and mentor, helping him navigate the music business.

Laura Harrier is ready to go to war with Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgård for the Andrew Niccol-directed sequel Lords of War. Harrier will star opposite Cage and Skarsgård for a follow-up to the filmmaker’s 2005 thriller, Lord of War.
Andrew Niccol directs from a script he wrote, with Cage reprising his role from the 2005 original, arms dealer Yuri Orlov. Exclusive: Laura Harrier (White Men Can’t Jump) has been tapped for a major role opposite Bill Skarsgård and Nicolas Cage in Lords of War, the sequel to 2005 crime thriller Lord of War, which Andrew Niccol (Anon) wrote and is directing for Vendôme Pictures (Coda), sources tell Deadline.
Lords of War picks up the story of Yuri Orlov (Cage), the world’s most notorious gunrunner, watching as he discovers he has a son, Anton (Skarsgård), who isn’t trying to right his father’s wrongs — he’s trying to top them. Not only selling guns but the “trigger pullers” too, Anton is amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle East conflicts. This is the story of Yuri and Anton’s bitter rivalry — even at odds over the same woman. Who will prevail when father and son go to war?
Specifics as to Harrier’s part are under wraps.

Emmy-nominated animated program “Entergalactic” is set amid a vibrant New York City. Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi voices Jabari, a graffiti artist who has just moved into a new Manhattan apartment after being hired by a comic book company.
He’s just broken up with his ex, Carmen (voiced by Laura Harrier), because he’s too busy to have a personal relationship until he meets his neighbor, Meadow (voiced by Jessica Williams).
In building Jabari’s world, production designer Robh Ruppel created a “blank canvas” for his loft since the character has just moved in. The walls are white, boxes still fill the room, and Jabari’s bike sits against a wall. However, as the story progresses, those boxes become fewer and the space stars to become more personal. Ruppel’s key was how he used color. “You can’t have it everywhere,” he says. “To show a sad evening alone,...

White Men Can’t Jump (2023) star Laura Harrier knows what it’s like to be the newcomer on set. After all, it wasn’t too long ago that she made what she considers to be her feature film debut opposite Michael Keaton in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). So, in Calmatic’s new take on Ron Shelton’s 1992 classic, White Men Can’t Jump, Harrier found herself welcoming rapper Jack Harlow to his first movie set and serving as the more experienced scene partner.
Harrier plays Tatiana, a dancer and choreographer who begins to lose her patience with her longtime boyfriend, Jeremy (Harlow), as the former college basketball player just can’t let go of his hoop dreams. Fortunately, unlike their characters, Harrier and Harlow didn’t take long to get on the same page.

On May 17, Viola Davis, Iris Law, Laura Harrier, and Ethan Hawke all hit the red carpet before screenings of "Monster" and "Strange Way of Life." Karina Manashil, the executive producer of Netflix’s animated film “Entergalactic,” says that the project was not initially intended by Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi to be animated. “In terms of creating a holistic visual interpretation of his music, there wasn’t really an opportunity to do that. So ‘Entergalactic’ was really birthed out of this idea of how do we create a holistic experience,” Mahashil tells Gold Derby during our recent Meet the Experts: TV Animation panel (watch the exclusive video interview above).
When brainstorming with Kenya Barris, the idea of doing an animated anthological sequence with each segment being inspired by a song started moving the needle. “Music tethered to animation doesn’t have the lifecycle of just an, an album, but really can live in perpetuity and be something that people continue to come back to and one of the anthological episodes we had was this animated love story and decided,...

Seemingly opposite street hoopers, Jeremy — an injury-prone former star — and Kamal — a has-been prodigy still clinging to his dream — team up to take one final shot at living out their dreams. The pair work as basketball hustlers who sucker would-be foes into the idea that white men can’t play as well as Black men. “White Men Can’t Jump” stars Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow, and debuts this Friday, May 19 exclusively streaming on Hulu. A memorable scene from Ron Shelton’s 1992 hoops comedy White Men Can’t Jump finds a playground baller (played by former NBA great Marques Johnson) fuming after he falls victim to a hustle. First the big guy pulls out a razor. Then he decides he needs something a little stronger, so he heads to his car to retrieve his gun – at which point everyone scrambles madly for the exits. Based on a real-life chapter of basketball lore, the moment is both scary (perhaps even more so now, when all public space...

In fashion, credits are everything.
This week in Cannes, French fashion house Saint Laurent graduated beyond “who are you wearing?” to “who made that movie?” courtesy of the world premiere of Pedro Almodovar’s gay Western Strange Way of Life starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal.
Because credits are crucial, now is the time to point out that not only is the 30-minute gay Western presented by the house, Saint Laurent received associate producer credit while creative director Anthony Vaccarello served as the costume designer for the 1910-set pic.
Strange Way of Life stars Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, wearing the green jacket similar to the one from Bend of the River.
There’s one more: The collaboration serves as the official debut of Saint Laurent Prods., an expansion that gives the house bragging rights as the first brand fully invested in producing films. Per official intel from Saint Laurent,...

So, do you have an appetite for sports films after the entertaining true life-inspired Air from a few weeks ago? To be more specific do you have, as Cheech and Chong most famously proclaimed, a “basketball jones”? Oh, here’s the movie for you! Now unlike the earlier film, this isn’t set in the 1980s, though it has a connection to a previous decade. And it’s not “inspired by true events”. This is more of a rollicking “buddy comedy” and is a remake of a movie from over 30 years ago (the decade being the 1990s). Perhaps it will once and for all either prove this true or false per the still provocative title, White Men Can’T Jump.
Speaking of time, this version starts with a flashback going back only six or seven years. It’s a telling TV interview on a cable sports show profiling high school basketball...

“White Men Can’t Jump” holds a special place in a lot of moviegoers’ hearts; while not the enduring sports classic that writer-director Ron Shelton delivered with his baseball mash note “Bull Durham,” the buddy comedy vividly captures the world of pick-up basketball players, and features three standout performances by Wesley Snipes, Woody Harrelson and Rosie Perez. Director Calmatic’s 2023 remake not only fails to recapture the energy of the first film but seems to misunderstand the cinematic language of streetball, and is largely uninterested in utilizing stars Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow except as delivery systems for exposition.
Updated only in its excess of contemporary slang and overwrought backstories, “White Men Can’t Jump” exemplifies the aversion to risk and lack of imagination in storytellers mining intellectual property at the behest of blandest-common-denominator-seeking corporate overlords.

Review: When White Men Can’t Jump was released in 1992, it came at a time when basketball was viewed much differently than it had been decades prior. The chemistry between Woody Harrelson’s unexpected baller and Wesley Snipes’ experienced player made for a mismatch that would work in their favor as Ron Shelton’s movie became a box office hit. Three decades later, White Men Can’t Jump gets a contemporary update as streamers continue to mine their IP. While the remake...

The poster for the original 1992 film White Men Can’t Jump featured a photo of its two stars, identified merely as “Wesley” and “Woody.” They were, of course, Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson, whose charismatic screen personas were already so well-defined that no further explanation was necessary.
That’s not exactly the case with this ill-advised remake, which comes across as an uninspired retread that lacks its own reason for being other than its appeal to baby boomer nostalgia. And no disrespect to the talents of the new film’s leads, but “Sinqua and Jack” just doesn’t have the same ring. Which is probably why the new White Men Can’t Jump is premiering domestically on Hulu rather than theatrically.
The film is directed by Calmatic, who, after this and the recent House Party, seems to be establishing a strange career pattern making inferior remakes of beloved ‘90s films. Sinqua Walls...

Jack Harlow is opening up about working with the late Lance Reddick on one of the last projects before his death.
The “First Class” rapper told Entertainment Tonight on Thursday at the premiere of his new film White Men Can’t Jump that it “was an absolute pleasure to be around” the John Wick actor.
“I got about two days on set with Lance,” Harlow said. “I’m so glad you brought the legend up. Rest in peace to Lance.”
The Wire star died “suddenly … from natural causes” in March, Reddick’s publicist Mia Hansen told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. He was 60.
The Calmatic-directed remake of the 1992 hit comedy has Harlow and Sinqua Walls taking on the roles of Jeremy and Kamal – a pair of basketball hustlers, who seem to be complete opposites but end up learning they have more in common than they thought and team up to earn extra cash.

Sinqua Walls and Jack Harlow are Los Angeles streetball hustlers in the official trailer for Hulu’s remake of White Men Can’t Jump.
Walls (Friday Night Lights) and rapper Harlow — making his film debut — take over the roles played by Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson, respectively, in the 1992 hit comedy by writer-director Ron Shelton.
The trailer is full of the on-court trash-talk that the original machine-gunned so deftly, with Harlow being referred to as “a yoga teacher” who is allowed to enter the gym and told he’s dressed like “a white girl at Whole Foods” and “wearing a fake-ass Richard Simmons outfit,” among other slams.
In the new film, Sinqua Walls “stars as Kamal, once a promising player who derailed his future in the sport, and multi-platinum rap superstar Jack Harlow makes his movie debut as Jeremy, a former star of the game whose injuries stalled his own career.
Walls (Friday Night Lights) and rapper Harlow — making his film debut — take over the roles played by Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson, respectively, in the 1992 hit comedy by writer-director Ron Shelton.

Rapper Jack Harlow is set to make his acting debut in Kenya Barris’ reboot of White Men Can’t Jump, and Hulu has shared a new trailer ahead of the film’s premiere next month.
In the clip, Harlow’s streetball skills are established when he makes more baskets than his soon-to-be partner Kamal (Sinqua Walls). Before they team up, however, Harlow’s Jeremy takes offense to being underestimated with cringeworthy lines like, “You assumed I couldn’t hoop because I’m white, which is incredibly outdated.” Kamal responds by calling him out for dressing like “a white girl at Whole Foods.”
The movie is a remake of Ron Shelton’s 1992 film of the same name starring Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes, and centers around the story of Jeremy and Kamal getting on the same page while trying to win a $500,000 basketball tournament. Along the way, they balance “tenuous relationships, financial pressures,...

"Hustle harder." 20th Century Studios has revealed the full-length official trailer for their upcoming remake of White Men Can't Jump, this one directed by Calmatic (following up his remake of House Party that opened earlier this year). The cast also includes Lance Reddick (Rip), Teyana Taylor, Laura Harrier, Tamera Kissen, Myles Bullock, Vince Staples, and Zak Steiner. This looks damn good! Better than expected, staying true to what made the original great. One of the...
