Back in 2015, HBO debuted a sports mockumentary called 7 Days in Hell that chronicled fictional tennis players Aaron Williams (Andy Samberg) and Charles Poole (Kit Harington) who played a match to end all tennis matches: a seven-day, five-set marathon that took everything out of them. It was a hilarious 45-minute foray into tennis presented […]

HBO has garnered acclaim for their prestige TV offerings, but one of their most underrated contributions to the television landscape is 2015’s “7 Days in Hell,” a mockumentary of the infamous John Isner/Nicolas Mahut Wimbledon showdown that shattered the record for longest tennis match in history. On the strengths of stars Andy Samberg and Kit Harrington, “7 Days in Hell” also took aim at a few of the legendary tennis rivalries of the 70s, 80s and 90s that brought the sport into the mainstream.
It’s a goofy, perfectly timed spoof that plays with the familiar tropes of sports docs, namely the ones in Espn’s “30 for 30” series. Apparently, it worked so well that HBO wanted more. Samberg and “7 Days in Hell” writer Murray Miller have reteamed for another trip through niche sports history with “Tour de Pharmacy,” a fictional look at a doping scandal in the world of 80s cycling.

Of all of The Joker’s comic book outings, Alan Moore’s Batman: The Killing Joke is a deserved classic, and considered not only the definitive story to focus on the Clown Prince of Crime, but also one of the best Batman stories ever written. It has gone onto to influence everything from films to video games, and Jared Leto has teased that it form the basis of his take on the character when Suicide Squad rolls around. One of the tales' most enduring monologues which, “The Emergency Exit”, gets the theatrical, almost film noir treatment with this dramatic reading from actor/director Aaron Williams. At times, he channels Mark Hamill’s classic take on the character for Batman: The Animated Series (it’s all in the voice), but there’s no denying this is a chilling and stunning tale on the character.

7 Days in Hell is an HBO TV mockumentary about the greatest game of tennis ever played, a seven day affair between American Aaron Williams (Andy Samberg) and Englishman Charles Poole (Kit Harrington). The movie was released on July 11th, coinciding with Wimbledon 2015. Somewhat in the spirit of wild sports movies like Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore, this fictional documentary comes off as sweet, cameo-chocked, and wholly palatable. It was a welcome comedic foil to the real games of 2015 Wimbledon, which saw elation in Serena’s inevitable victory, and felt defeat for the Swiss Maestro.
Serena Williams, who dominated the real court in at 2015 Wimbledon, leads off a massive list of cameos. According to 7 Days in Hell myth, Aaron Williams is the adopted son of Richard Williams, and third lion in the Williams pride. At only forty-two minutes long, this TV short film is definitely worth a watch. Who doesn’t...

Thus far, 2015 hasn’t been the strongest year for HBO original programming. The one-two punch of Veep and Silicon Valley made for one hell of a comedy duo, but only for ten weeks. Last Week Tonight is still a Sunday night saving grace, but replacement comedies Ballers and The Brink have been, at best, middling. After a Game of Thrones season that left many feeling cold as a Night’s Watchman, and with the jury still out on True Detective Season 2, it’s not like HBO couldn’t use something to invigorate its summer slate. 7 Days in Hell, airing this Saturday, should provide just such a shot in the arm.
For one, the special has timing on its side. A 45-minute film starring Andy Samberg and Thrones’ Kit Harington, 7 Days in Hell is a faux documentary recounting a weeklong tennis match at the Wimbledon championships. Half a day after the special airs,...

HBO's "7 Days in Hell" airs this Saturday, July 11, at 10 Pm Et/Pt and whew, it's not good. Starring Andy Samberg and "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington as rival tennis players, the 45-minute special is a send up of the 2010 Wimbledon match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut, which ran for three days. Bad boy American, Aaron Williams (Samberg) and British home favorite Charles Poole (Harington) battle it out over the course of seven days with interviews and vignettes spliced in-between each day's play and with every passing minute it weighs heavier and heavier on your soul. Williams is something of an Andre Agassi, tennis bad boy that falls on hard times after killing a linesman with an errant serve, while Poole is a dimwitted Brit who can hardly tie his own shoes. Everything from weather to sex with streakers, phone calls from the Queen of England, sex with streakers,...

Andy Samberg has always toed the line between hilariously smart and juvenile, and just plain juvenile, however, across two seasons of Fox’s surprisingly strong “Brooklyn Nine Nine,” he’s shown his particular brand of humor can be tempered with character and emotion, without losing a bit of edge. But perhaps the former “Saturday Night Live” player feels he’s lost a step going to network comedy, because given the chance to not just stretch his wings, but grind them with his crotch, he swings the pendulum back the other way in “7 Days In Hell,” delivering one of the crudest laffers of his career. Unfortunately, it’s also one of his unfunniest. Taking the shape of an HBO Sports documentary, the faux doc chronicles the historic, titular Wimbledon tennis match, and the personal and professional history of the two rivals at the center of the sports battle: the ‘80s hair-metal...

It's Andy Samberg versus Kit Harrington in TV tennis mockumentary 7 Days In Hell. Here's a new trailer...
Anyone who only has a passing interest in the sport of tennis has probably thought 'just how ruddy long can this match go on for?'
If that's your stance, Andy Samberg's new comedy 7 Days In Hell could be ideal viewing. It's a TV movie destined for HBO, where it will land in the USA on Saturday the 11th of July. The film chronicles an epic week-long tennis game between Samberg's Charles Lloyd Poole and Kit Harrington's Aaron Williams.
Harrington's geek cred and our love for Brooklyn-99 aren't the only things drawing us to the project, either. Karen Gillan of Doctor Who and Guardians Of The Galaxy is also in the movie, as is Girls' Lena Dunham, and a lot of actual tennis celebrities.

Here's the trailer...

Wimbledon fever is growing and this year, on HBO, it will include Kit Harington and Andy Samberg.

If Andy Samberg got into a fight with Kit Harington, it's pretty clear who would win (Jon Snow trumps Jake Peralta, unless Terry Crews stepped in as the detective's champion). But if the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" comedian played the "Game of Thrones" star in tennis, who knows what would happen? Read More: Kit Harington on His 'Naughty' 'Game of Thrones' Cast and Going Full-Blown Romantic for 'Testament of Youth' We'll find out when HBO debuts "7 Days in Hell," a new "documentary" starring the two actors, on July 11. Featuring tennis stars and celebrity commenters alike, the mockumentary focuses on "the longest and greatest tennis match of all time." Samberg stars as Aaron Williams, a hyper-malcontent whose eagerly anticipated face-off with arch-rival Charles Poole (Harington) takes more out of everyone than anyone could have expected. HBO's official synopsis for "7 Days in Hell" reads: "This sports 'documentary'...

Andy Samberg is setting aside his badge and picking up a racket. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine star is set to play a "superstar tennis bad boy" in a new HBO comedy event focused on a seven-day Wimbledon showdown. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the one-off mockumentary, titled 7 Days in Hell, will find Samberg's character, Aaron Williams, squaring off with rival prodigy/"certified truck driver" Charles Lloyd Poole (Game of Thrones' Kit Harington) at Wimbledon 2004.

Titled 7 Days in Hell, the comedy will star Samberg as a superstar tennis “bad boy” Aaron Williams and Harington as Charles Lloyd Poole, a young prodigy.

On July 4th, 2006, Dread Central opened its doors, and for nearly a decade now we've been bringing you constant horror content every day since. No holidays. No days off. We're always here, and we are always happy to do so. So it's with great pride that we wish you, our readers, a happy anniversary!
Being a writer in the web business is not easy. There are so many bumps along the way that it gets hard to remember the smoother patches. One thing that doesn't change, though, is how absolutely worth it it all is.
You guys give us a platform, and we do our best to honor that gift. We've made each other laugh, screamed over our disagreements (complete with Caps Lock On), and have learned so much from one another. Every day that we get to do this is a blessing, and in an industry where so many websites comes and go,...

From the psychopathic, Christopher Lambert-bothering Kurgan in Highlander to tyrannical prison warden Byran Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption through to new recruit-maiming drill sergeant Zim in Starship Troopers, it's safe to say that I am one of the many movie fans who have more than just a handful of favourite Clancy Brown roles.
Brown joins an impressive cast that includes Anne Heche and James Tupper for Nothing Left To Fear, the first horror film to come from former Guns 'N' Roses guitarist Slash's production company 'Slasher Films'. Akin to Seventies horror classics The Wicker Man and Rosemary's Baby, Anthony Leonardi III's debut feature channels fears of the occult, secret societies and the supernatural with a modern twist.
We snapped up the chance to get the first word from Clancy himself on his latest role as the ominous Pastor Kingsman, head of a mysterious Baptist church...

Currently in production and flying the flag for cream of the crop independent horror is Simeon Halligan's White Settlers, starring genre fave Pollyanna Mcintosh – with whom most of you are more than likely familiar due to her spectacular performance in the titular role in Lucky Mckee's The Woman.
Also starring fellow up-and-coming British talent Lee Williams ("The Tudors") and produced by the people behind Manchester horror festival Grimmfest, not to mention penned by BAFTA nominated writer Ian Fenton, White Settlers looks like it could be the much awaited breath of life that British horror needs.
While working on set, Pollyanna was gracious enough to take some time to speak with us between takes and let us all know what horrors lie in store in this tale of a young couple trying for an idyllic life in the country that soon find themselves besieged by unspeakable terrors...

It's hard to believe seven years have passed since Dread Central opened its doors on July 4th, 2006, declaring our independence from those who were holding us back, but alas... it is so. This past year has been stranger than most, but truth be told, that's how we like it.
Each year I personally take this time to acknowledge staffers past and present so please allow me my usual time to indulge myself. First, our foundation ... The Foywonder, Andrew Kasch, Buz Wallick, Scott Johnson, Mr. Dark, and Nomad. These cats have been here since Day One and helped build this nuthouse brick by brick. I don't care whether they contribute a lot or a little. The simple fact that they've stood by us so long always makes me realize how truly lucky and blessed we are. Gracias for your never-ending loyalty.

Six years ago Dread Central opened its doors on July 4th, declaring our independence from those who were holding us back, and the lunatics have been running the asylum ever since. The road thus far has been winding and unpredictable, and we wouldn't want it any other way.
As always, I'd like to take this time to acknowledge the folks who keep the spooky coming by the bucketful. First, our foundation ... The Foywonder, Andrew Kasch, Buz Wallick, Scott Johnson, Mr. Dark, Nomad, and Rick Trembles. These cats have been here since Day One and helped build this nuthouse brick by brick. Words alone cannot express how lucky we are to have each and every one of you. Your loyalty and support are proof positive it takes more than just blood to become family.

Want to know how to make your own health potion from Diablo? The Gaming Gourmet will teach you how.
Diablo gets a comic, more video game food, and kids getting trapped in games on your TV screen in this week's non-gaming game news.
If the wait for Diablo III is absolutely killing you, then maybe you should check out the first two issues of the miniseries running at DC Comics. The plot synopsis sounds like typical hero's journey stuff, but you can never tell what kind of Easter eggs and tidbits DC and Blizzard might have put their heads together to seed throughout the story.
Here's the synopsis of the current issue:

The Dreadlands are being corrupted by madness, causing its victims to open their flesh and lash out at friend and foe alike.

*here be some spoilers.
Director: Sonny Laguna.
Writers: Tommy Wiklund, and Sonny Laguna.
Tagline: "Hell just froze over."
It is amazing that so many first time directors start with horror. Perhaps it is the formula of this genre that draws so many here or maybe it is because there are so many fans of the genre out there. Sonny Laguna is the latest to test his mettle in horror with Blood Runs Cold and his efforts are only partially satisfying. Released on DVD in the United Kingdom last October, Blood Runs Cold is your typical slasher with lots of murder and sparse dialogue. A cold-blooded and nameless killer stalks several youth in an isolated cabin. There is no backstory for the killer and the ample blood effects try to distract you from the film's lack of complexity. Just grab an axe and keep chopping!
Really, the plot has been summed up above.
