Based on the UK BAFTA award-winning series, The School That Tried to End Racism explores a ground-breaking pilot program designed to provide school children with the tools to identify racial bias and make positive change.
Hosted by Marc Fennell and filmed in a Nsw primary school, the series follows a team of educators and leading expert Professor Fiona White as they attempt to reverse the racial bias in an ordinary multicultural class of 9 to 11-year-old students. Over three weeks the students go through a series of entertaining and eye-opening activities in and out of class that challenges everything they thought they knew about race.
Beyond the classroom the students meet comedian Nazeem Hussain, writer and ABC sports reporter Tony Armstrong, Olympian Bendere Oboya, editor and founder of Ascension Sasha Sarago, Associate Professor Anna Clark, and Uncle Michael Welsh and Uncle Richard Campbell, who share their experiences and knowledge to assist...

What’s your favourite Australian film of the last decade?
That’s one of the questions Aacta is putting to the general public over the coming week as voting opens for its new Audience Choice Awards.
In contention for the film award are: Peter Rabbit, Red Dog, The Sapphires, The Great Gatsby, The Water Diviner, The Dressmaker, Lion, Ride Like A Girl and Mad Max: Fury Road.
While many of those nominated correspond to the Academy’s own ‘Best Film’ winners over the past 10 years, there are some notable exclusions – 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge, 2018’s Sweet Country and 2019’s The Nightingale.
The Favourite TV Drama of The Decade category sees each broadcaster score two nods – bar Sbs, who were snubbed. They include 10’s Offspring and Neighbours, ABC’s Mystery Road and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Foxtel’s Top of the Lake and Wentworth, Seven’s Molly and Home and Away,...

‘Hardball.’
Northern Pictures’ Hardball has been nominated for an International Emmy Kids Award, one of four competing in the Kids: Live Action category.
So that is more acclaim for the ABC-commissioned comedy which won two prizes in June: The Prix Jeunesse International Award for the world’s best fiction program for 7-10-year-olds, and the Rockie Award for the Best Children and Youth Fiction Series at the Banff World Media Festival in Canada.
Created and written by Matt Zeremes and Guy Edmonds and produced by Joe Weatherstone, Hardball centres on Mikey and his dream to become the ‘sweetest-bestest-acest’ handball champ in Western Sydney.
The international distributor the Australian Children’s Television Foundation sold the show last month to the BBC kids’ channel Cbbc after earlier deals with France Televisions (France), Nrk (Norway), Rte (Ireland), Tvo (Canada), Tfo (Canada), Tvb (Hong Kong), Rtp (Portugal), Rtv (Slovenia), and Sabc (South Africa).

Rebel Wilson's latest project, an Amazon series titled Lol: Last One Laughing, already has us cackling into our morning coffees. The six-episode comedy series (which was filmed in 2019) is being touted as a "comedic social experiment" and involves 10 Australian comedians being locked in a house together for a six-hour competition that has no rules. Oh, except one: if they laugh, they're cut.
Each comedian will participate in a series of skits where they can say and do whatever they like, except laugh. If a comedian laughs softly, they'll receive a yellow card violation (just like in football). A second offense will earn the comedian a red card elimination, and they'll be eliminated from the game and miss out on $100,000 cash prize.
If you're not familiar with the Australian comedy scene, you'll just have to trust me when I say that you're in for a treat. With Rebel Wilson as host,...

Zenia Starr in ‘The End’ (Photo credit: Foxtel).
Zenia Starr made her screen debut in Mark Grentell’s 2013 cricket comedy Backyard Ashes but this year has been the first when she has worked virtually non-stop.
The Indian-born, Australian-raised actor modestly credits that to a number of factors including audiences’ growing appetite to see diversity on screens and those producers and directors who were willing to take a risk in hiring her.
Equally graciously she also thanks her agent, Catherine Poulton Management, luck and “maybe some divine intervention.”
After a string of roles in the ABC’s The Unlisted, the second series of Seven Network’s Drop Dead Weird, Stan’s upcoming The Gloaming, Foxtel’s The End and Maziar Lahooti’s debut feature Below, she says: “It’s the most momentum I’ve ever had.”

‘Nice Shorts.’
Nick Boshier and Jazz Twemlow are leading the team of comedy writers/performers who will create Nice Shorts for Bunya Entertainment.
The online sketch comedy of 16 episodes, ranging from 3-10 minutes, will tap into national and international conversations to create videos for weekly release via social platforms.
Apart from Boshier and Twemlow the team includes Nazeem Hussain (Legally Brown), Greta Lee Jackson (Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am), Penny Greenhalgh (The Lost Tapes) and Bjorn Stewart.
The Bunya Group is not looking to monetize the low-budget online series, instead using it as the first opportunity to work with comedy creatives and as the first foray into comedy for the new banner Bunya Entertainment.
“Like the dramas we’re best known for, the quality of writing in Nice Shorts will be the hallmark of this show,” says Bunya Group CEO Sophia Zachariou.
Bunya Entertainment is developing seven narrative comedies including one with Adam Zwar.

“I’m Bill Nye, and I’m here to save the world.” With those audacious words, Nye opens each episode of his new Netflix series, delving into a broad range of hotly debated topics that currently sit at a critical crossroads in the global conversation. The focus isn’t on the the straightforward science that children grew up with during Bill Nye the Science Guy back in the 1990s, but it’s clearly intended for the now-adult audience who revered Nye’s rare ability to make science palatable and even fun for all ages.

In what is shaping up to be a busy, busy day for Netflix – the online streamer just renewed hit sci-fi drama The Oa for a second season, with a downright strange teaser trailer to boot – we now have our first look at Bill Nye Saves the World in motion.
Introducing the Science Guy to Netflix subscribers, the announcement trailer confirms the show’s release date (April 21st) along with the range of timely topics that Nye and Co. plan to thrust under the spotlight. In no particular order, they include global warming, alternative medicine, technology, sex, and GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms). It’s unclear at the moment, but we assume each of the show’s 13 episodes will be dedicated to one topic in particular, allowing Bill Nye and his special guests/correspondents to debunk popular myths and anti-scientific claims all from the comfort of Netflix HQ.

Sbs managing director Michael Ebeid has called for increased government funding to enable the broadcaster to commission more Australian content.
.We will continue to advocate for more funding to deliver the level of Australian content that we believe our audiences should be getting and which we think is needed for the health of the local production sector,. Ebeid said in the text of a speech which was delivered on his behalf by Sbs head of TV and online content Tony Iffland at the Jobs, Dollars, Hearts and Minds conference in Canberra.
Ebeid indicated Sbs would have supported the Convergence Review recommendation that the Federal Government adopt a local content quota of 28%, which would have been a substantial lift from the current level of about 16%, and said Sbs would welcome increasing the producer offset for TV drama.
The speech highlighted several upcoming Sbs shows including Better Man, a drama about the...
