Mohamed Ghazala

Mohamed Ghazala is an artist of animated films, the founder and the
director of the first chapter of the International Animated Film
Association ASIFA in Africa and in the Arab world based in Egypt, and
the member of the board of ASIFA. He served on a number of
international Animation festival juries including Stuttgart (DE),
Castelli Animat i(IT), Animanima (SR), AnimaAfrik (GH), ReAnimania
(AM), Animae Caribe (TT), AnimaBasauri (ES), CICDAF (CN). After the
graduation from the Animation Department, Fine Arts Faculty, Minia
University, Egypt (2001) he worked as a lecturer assistant in the same
department.
In 2006 he has done his MFA in animation about Animalism in Disney's Animation. He works as full-time lecturer in Minia University after he obtained a PhD degree.
His research concerns experimental digital animation films. Since he finished his under graduation study, he directed and co-directed many awarded films, such as "Carnival" (2001), "Crazy Works" (2002), "HM HM" (2005),"Sayari Yetu" (2006), including the first Yemen's animated film "Salma" in 2006, and "Honyan's Shoe" (2009) which won the Animation Prize at The African Movie Academy Awards (The African Oscar AMAA) in Lagos/Nigeria 2010.
He gave a number of workshops on animation in different countries and acted as a film consultant for several international festivals. His mission in the last few years is to promote Egyptian, Arab and African Animation through lectures in int'l academies or cinematic programs in festivals. In 2011 he published his first book under the title "Animation in the Arab World" (Lambert AP. Germany). Ghazala mainly concentrates in making independent experimental animated films on his own or in the course of workshops (e. g. Greece, Tunisia, Capo Verde) or art residencies (e.g. UNESCO-ASCHBERG's to Colombia, UNESCO's Africa Animated to Kenya).
His last book " Animation in Africa" was published during Luxor African Film Festival (March 2013)
