On Wednesday, some of the world’s biggest athletes and stars — host Steph Curry, Olympians including Allyson Felix and Chloe Kim, and NFL star like Tom Brady — will convene in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to celebrate the way sports can bring people together.
The 2022 Espy Awards, broadcast live on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. Et, serves as a “celebration of the inclusive nature of sports,” ESPN content executive editor-at-large Rob King told TheWrap in an exclusive interview to preview the show.
This year’s ceremony will honor former heavyweight boxing champion and mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage; retired Army Command Sergeant Major Gretchen Evans with the Pat Tillman Award for Service and legendary college basketball broadcaster and Hall of Fame inductee Dick Vitale with the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance.
“I think those are going to be really powerful moments,” King said of the honorees’ ceremonies.

Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv and a former heavyweight boxing champion, will be honored with the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the 2022 ESPYs on ABC Wednesday, July 20.
The award is given to “a deserving member of the sporting world who makes a difference far beyond the field of play, impacting the world in indelible ways.”
Klitschko, the city’s mayor since 2014, has been a central figure in his country’s defense since it was invaded by Russian forces in late February, serving as one of the faces of the Ukrainian resilience. Together with his brother, Wladimir, also a former heavyweight champion, the Klitschkos pledged to take up arms alongside their fellow citizens and were leaders in Ukrainians’ response to the invasion.
“It is a great honor for me to receive this award,” said Klitschko in a statement. “I am convinced that this is a recognition of the courage...

Submissions for the fourth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards will open Feb. 21, the Critics Choice Association and nonfiction producers organization Npact announced Friday.
First launched in 2019, the Real TV Awards were established as way of providing the growing nonfiction TV sphere critical attention and support. The awards celebrate programming across streaming and linear platforms, and honor industry leaders for their work in advancing unscripted television.
This year’s Real TV Awards ceremony will honor shows that premiered at least six episodes between June 1, 2021 and May 31, 2022. To be eligible, the show will have needed to be available to at least 50% of the total U.S. TV market. Submissions for nomination consideration will open Feb. 21 and close May 6, with the nominations announced May 25.
For the first time since the inaugural ceremony, the Real TV Awards will be held in person, after the Covid-19 pandemic caused the last two to be held virtually.

For nearly two full seasons, Evil fans couldn’t help but wonder if the CBS-turned-Paramount+ drama would ever “go there” with psychologist Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) and priest-in-training David Acosta (Mike Colter). Sure, the two have chemistry, but she’s married and he went through with his ordination. It seemed less and less likely… until the final scene of the second season. In back-to-back intimate moments, Kristen confessed to murdering serial killer LeRoux, then she and David kissed. “That was probably the last choice we made in the writers’ room,” co-creator Robert King told TV Insider. “There were two things at play. One was the intimacy of the confession and the relief that Kristen feels, a natural sense of kind of falling into his body and being held. And I think our characters have a lot of difficulty differentiating between — and a lot of people have a lot...
