Last year, a bidding war was going down between Netflix and Amazon for a lucrative package deal. The two streaming giants were in a fight to acquire the film rights to the novella by Don Winslow called Crime 101. The package deal had included two attached stars — Chris Hemsworth and Pedro Pascal. Although, Pascal has now reportedly been replaced by Mark Ruffalo. It also has a director set to helm the project with Bart Layton, whose credits include the documentary The Imposter from 2012 and American Animals from 2018. Amazon had come out as the victor and according to Deadline, Saltburn and Masters of the Air star Barry Keoghan will now join the heist film.
Crime 101 is said to be a crime drama in the vein of Michael Mann’s Heat. The plot of the film has yet to be released; however, Deadline’s summary of the novel reads that “the...

Deadline reports that Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star in the long-awaited crossover movie between the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises, which was first teased in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. As we know, Hemsworth is already part of the Transformers universe as he’s voicing Optimus Prime in Transformers One, the upcoming animated movie about the origins of Optimus Prime and his future nemesis, Megatron.
There have been rumblings of a live-action crossover between the Transformers and G.I. Joe franchises for quite some time, but the first steps were taken in Rise of the Beasts. At the close of the film, Anthony Ramos’ character gets a job offer from the Joes. Director Steven Caple Jr. told THR last year that while the studio was keen on the idea, it took almost two years to get everyone to sign off. “I had to talk to all the producers and...

Can robots have a coming of age story? Well, Optimus Prime, Megatron and their assembled mechanical factions are alien robots known as Transformers, so, you know, anything is possible. And indeed, Transformers One takes us back to a time before sides had been taken in the war between the Autobots and Decepticons, when Optimus was known as Orion Pax, and Megatron went by the slightly less imposing moniker of D-16.
The animated adventure, directed by Toy Story 4's Josh Cooley, harkens back to the 1986 Transformers: The Movie, but is set even further back in time, when Cybertron holds secrets and threats – compelling Orion, D-16, B-127 (Aka Bumblebee) and their friend Elita-1 to become what they're supposed to be. They're about to go through a – pun entirely intended – transformational experience.

The Transformers franchise is one of the best-known mecha franchises of all time. What started off as a series of action figures and a Japanese-American animated series became one of the most popular brands in the world and one of the best 80s series ever. Since its debut, numerous revivals and reboots have been made, including video games and a live-action movie series that started off strongly but began declining at one point. The live-action franchise is currently going through a soft reboot or revamp with Bumblebee becoming a hit for the franchise after many failures.
Now, the franchise is heading into a somewhat different direction, as a CGI feature-length animated movie, Transformers One, is currently scheduled to be released later this year, and the first official trailer for the movie has finally been released.

Forget trailer debuts during football game halftimes or shown through “Fortnite,” the next frontier of debuting movie trailers is watching it on a screen that happens to be orbiting the Earth.

Paramount, via star Chris Hemsworth’s Instagram, did a livestream of the spacecraft launch followed by the first look at the trailer.
Why do this? “The sky is the limit” for the film, Hemsworth said in announcing the stunt.

The "Transformers" movies took a pretty healthy break after the release of 2018's "Bumblebee," even if that wasn't originally the plan that Paramount Pictures had in mind. Regardless, thanks to the pandemic, that's exactly what happened. But with the release of "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" in 2023, the franchise is back with much more to come. Not only are we poised for more live-action movies but we're also getting a feature-length, theatrically-released animated film in the form of "Transformers One."
While the robots in disguise started out as toys, it was in no small part thanks to the '80s animated series, as well as 1986's "Transformers: The Movie" that helped make the Autobots and Decepticons staples of pop culture. So bringing it back around to animation feels like a full-circle moment, and one that may well excite fans who checked out during Michael Bay's later live-action entries. So...

Paramount has pushed back the release date for Transformers One, the newest animated feature in the Transformers franchise that was unveiled at CinemaCon in April. The origin story from director Josh Cooley, previously set to open on July 19, 2024, will now bow nationwide on September 13, 2024.
While the sole competitor on its new date is an untitled film from Uni/Blumhouse, the project hits theaters shortly after the September 6th debut of Warner Bros’ Beetlejuice 2, Disney’s Blade and another unknown Disney pic. It had previously been set to contend with Universal’s Twisters.
Hailing from Paramount Animation, Hasbro and eOne, Transformers One tells the story of how a young Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry) went from being brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies. Also starring are Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Jon Hamm and Laurence Fishburne, who are respectively voicing Elita, Bumblebee, Sentinel Prime and Alpha Trion.

Six years ago, we heard that Ant-Man co-writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari had joined a writers room that was put together to develop an animated Transformers project called Transformers One, which “would take place on the Autobots and Decepticon’s home planet of Cybertron.” Three years ago, Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley signed on to take the helm of the film. Now, Deadline reports that a voice cast has been assembled for Transformers One… and it has some serious star power.
Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Brian Tyree Henry (Eternals) are providing the voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron, respectively, and they’re joined in the voice cast by Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key (The Predator) as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) as Alpha Trion.

Earlier this month, Sony Pictures and 21 Laps – the production company behind the hit Netflix series Stranger Things – came out the winners in a competitive bidding situation over the feature film rights to the horror short film Gnomes, which was directed by Ruwan Suresh Heggelman from a script he crafted with Jasper ten Hoor and Richard Raaphorst. Heggelman will be directing the feature, but Deadline reports that Sony and 21 Laps have hired an established Hollywood screenwriting duo to write the script this time around. Those writers are Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, whose previous credits include Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp and the Hulu thriller No Exit. Barrer also wrote the 2013 horror film Haunt, on which Ferrari served as an executive producer.
In addition to co-writing the script for the short version of Gnomes, Raaphorst also produced the film. He’s on board to produce the feature version alongside 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy,...

From Dutch filmmakers Richard Raaphorst and Ruwan Heggelman, Sony Pictures is turning the short film Gnomes into a feature, and Deadline provides a big update on the project.
Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari (Ant-Man and the Wasp) will script the feature film adaptation for Sony Pictures, Deadline reports, with 21 Laps (“Stranger Things”) producing.
Deadline details, “the original film watches as a girl stumbled into the territory of a killer gnome tribe while out on her daily run, finding herself in grave danger after being lured in by its mysterious glowing mushrooms.”
21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine will produce the feature take, with Emily Feher overseeing the project for the company. Raaphorst is also on board as a producer.
Stay tuned for more on Gnomes as we learn it.

It's morphin' time once again, but not for the Power Rangers. No, but the upcoming live-action film "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" finally has its first trailer — and those things morph, you know?
In the sneak peek, we meet "In the Heights" star Anthony Ramos and "Judas and the Black Messiah" star Dominique Fishback as our human leads ... and yes, that's definitely the legendary Ron Pearlman voicing a new Transformer character named Optimus Primal. Right, not quite Optimus Prime, but close. This new film is set to adapt the "Transformers" spin-off series "Beast Wars" for the screen for the first time, which sounds about right for the seventh film in just about any franchise. At that point, reinventing the wheel is key — and it seems as though "Beast Wars" is their shot at doing so 15 years after the first "Transformers" film was released.

The thriller is a mold that’s well worn, but not necessarily always tried and true. Some miss the mark, not being able to deliver an unpredictable and suspenseful experience. Damien Power’s No Exit may not seem unique when reading its synopsis, but it’s one of the best thrillers in a long time that focuses keenly on making sure its audience will never see what’s coming.
Based on the novel of the same name by Taylor Adams, the film begins at a rehab center where Darby (Havana Rose Liu) is staying. Eleven days sober doesn’t seem like much to celebrate, but it is for someone who possesses disbelief that the system built to help addicts like her doesn’t work. She makes it clear she doesn’t want to be there, creating tension during her support group meetings, but she has nowhere else to go. When...

When addicts lead stories, they’re not often heroes, and their arcs rarely stray from Sisyphean struggles against their drug(s) of choice. Those narratives are important in their own right, but it can also be refreshing to see addicts — who are, after all, just people — do something else.
Hulu’s “No Exit,” the second feature from director Damien Power (“Killing Ground”), offers its addict protagonist plenty to do, but it also puts her through an entirely different, at times garishly absurd, kind of hell.
The victim in question is Darby, a cynical young woman in the revolving door of recovery who busts out of rehab in Sacramento when she finds out her mother is dying in a Salt Lake City hospital. Just a few days sober and driving in a stolen car, her nerves are already worn thin by the time she’s stopped and directed to a rest...

If you’re thinking, “I’m so so sick of Winter with all the wind, snow, and icy blasts of frigid air! I need a sunny beach!”, then this flick may not be the cinematic escape. Perhaps the dessert backdrop of Death On The Nile may be “just the ticket”. But if you’re in the mood for another “whodunit”, then perhaps this new flick may test your “Poirot aspirations. Ah, but as I mentioned earlier it’s a “chiller” in more ways than one. And a “thriller”. Though it also places us in the main character’s quandry and “moral panic”. This story’s heroine must make a choice whether to risk her life (and put aside a family crisis) to intervene when the uncaring tundra-like landscape offers No Exit.

From the 2010 edition of the Blacklist to Zac Efron’s schedule, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari’s screenplay for Die in a Gunfight seemed to be getting the fast-track into theaters before seven years of development saw a revolving door of actors and directors changing. It would take almost a decade before cameras started rolling and the person sitting prettiest after the whole ordeal became Collin Schiffli. After two indie films written by frequent collaborator David Dastmalchian, he’s finally got his hands in the Hollywood pie with Lionsgate and a modestly star-studded cast of B-listers to help make his stylistic flourishes look good. And there are a lot of them. Whether or not they work to make this riff on “Romeo and Juliet” a success is beside the point.

After Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction both crossed the billion dollar threshold at the box office, Paramount doubled down on their intentions to launch an entire shared universe around the Autobots and Decepticons by establishing a writers room tasked with expanding the mythology.
Spearheaded by Akiva Goldsman, the roster of talent included Christina Hodson, Ant-Man‘s Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrarri, Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Steven S. DeKnight, The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman, Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s Jeff Pinkner, Marvel regular Zak Penn and Black Hawk Down‘s Ken Nolan, while Geneva Robertson-Dworet would go on to write Captain Marvel.
The experiment was ultimately abandoned having produced just two movies, with Nolan penning The Last Knight and Hodson scripting Bumblebee, making the costly assembly of such well known writers pointless in the long run.

The Transformers film franchise is getting a new kind of offering from its proverbial AllSpark, an animated prequel movie. The early details imply ambitious designs for this project, and the studios tapped a major talent from the world of animation, Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley.
Hasbro’s eOne and Paramount are moving forward with a project described as a big-scale Transformers animated prequel feature designed for theatrical release, according to Deadline. The story will be set on Cybertron, the planet from which the gigantic protean automatons originated, set several years before the main story, focusing on the early relationship between altruistic Autobot leader Optimus Prime and malevolent Decepticon leader Megatron. Thus, the movie could provide some key context when it comes to the motivations for the eventual ongoing conflict—conveniently moved to our Earth—of the two warring sides.

eOne, Hasbro’s entertainment studio, will develop and produce the film along with Paramount Animation.
