Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is on the way. A recent blog post from author, series co-creator, and executive producer Rick Riordan reveals that they aim to have started filming Season 2 by this fall, and there are more production updates where that came from. Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars Walker Scobell as the titular demigod, the pre-teen son of human Sally Jackson (Virginia Kull) and Olympian god Poseidon (Toby Stephens). When Percy learns of his mythical abilities, he’s sent to Camp Half-Blood for protection with the help of his best friend/satyr protector, Grover (Aryan Simhadri). It’s at this training ground and demigod safe haven that Percy learns his favorite teacher, Mr. Brunner (Glynn Turman), is actually a centaur named Chiron, trainer of demigods. When Percy is accused of stealing his Uncle Zeus’ (the late Lance Reddick) master bolt, Percy embarks on a quest across the country to prove his innocence.

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians stars have an update on filming for Season 2! Walker Scobell and co-stars Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries tell TV Insider that they expect to be back on set by the end of this summer. TV Insider caught up with the teen stars on the red carpet of Disney’s 2024 upfront presentation on Tuesday, May 14, in New York City. When asked if they can confirm when Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 filming begins, Scobell replies, “Probably end of the summer, probably around there.” Simhadri and Jeffries nod in agreement as Jeffries says, “Yeah.” “Again, not 100 percent positive, but I hope so,” Scobell adds. “I hope it’s soon.” “The sooner the better,” Simhadri says, as Scobell and Jeffries both reply, “Exactly.” This aligns with a recent blog update from author/series co-creator and executive producer Rick Riordan. “Sadly, I will not be doing...

Logan Lerman, best known for the Percy Jackson film series, began acting in commercials when he was young and made his film debut in 2000 with the movie The Patriot. After starring in several movies, he decided he needed a break in the early 2000s and would return to the industry when he was 12. In 2004, he was cast in one of the two titular roles in the TV series Jack & Bobby.
Logan Lerman in Hunters
By the time he was cast as the titular character in the 2009 movie Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, he had appeared in numerous projects and won three Young Artist Awards. The movies have been criticized for deviating from the source material for years. With the release of the new Disney+ series, fans were hoping to have those mistakes corrected. However, Lerman’s recent words have drawn a surprisingly new reaction from them.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians has been doing phenomenal numbers for Disney+ with 110 million hours streamed as of Feb. 7, according to a press release. Fans of this beloved Rick Riordan book series have been waiting nearly two decades for a worthwhile adaptation, and thanks to Riordan’s involvement and an immense amount of care from the cast and crew, Disney+ seems to have struck gold with this franchise.
However, Percy Jackson and the Olympians isn’t the only mythology-based middle grade book series that Rick Riordan has written. The Kane Chronicles may not be as well-known as its Greek predecessor, but this 2010s trilogy based on Egyptian mythology still has a dedicated fan base eager to see these characters on screen.

From the beginning, Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+ was promised to be a faithful adaptation of Rick Riordan's books — and, for the most part, Season 1 succeeded in doing this.
Of course, the first season of the show is not 100% entirely and completely identical to The Lightning Thief (the first of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels). In fact, several key story elements were added or changed.
Season 1 allowed the Medusa sequence to reflect the more mature elements of her myth, Grover saw brand new lore added, and multiple episodes included brand new flashbacks to Percy's childhood.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a hit TV show that Disney was ready and prepared for after learning from past mistakes. Starring Walker Scobell as Percy, the son of the god Poseidon, this series adapts the popular young adult novels about Greek mythology by Rick Riordan. After some not-so-successful film adaptations of these popular stories, Disney decided it was time to give it another try with this epic series released in December 2023. With how faithful the TV series is to the books, it’s no surprise that it’s receiving tons of praise from fans and critics, which is probably...

Netflix is no longer going forward with adaptations of the book series Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan.
First announced in September 2020, the planned series used the books of author Riordan, who is also behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians (currently being adapted into a Disney+ series) and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, The Trials of Apollo and Daughter of the Deep.
Riordan took to GoodReads to say that the Kane Chronicles project isn’t moving forward.
“Right now, Kane Chronicles is in ‘turnaround,’ which means Netflix has decided not to move forward and their option has lapsed after trying for two years to develop a script they liked. Now it depends on whether another studio would like to step in, assume the preproduction costs, and move forward. This is not at all unusual. It happens, I would guess, with the majority of film projects. Also, the streaming industry...

With readers being extremely passionate about all her books as well as her style of writing, the fantasy series has taken up a special place in the hearts of readers. Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan gave fans a frame of reference to use for Season 2's production schedule, leaving fans unsurprisingly discouraged on when new episodes will arrive.
Season 1 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians was both a critical and financial success, making its Season 2 renewal (which came one week after Season 1's finale released) both expected and exciting.
On top of that, scripts were already in preliminary writing stages back in December 2023 — having been started even before the show debuted on Disney+ — for if a Season 2 renewal were to happen.

Disney+ isn’t wasting any time getting Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 underway.
While the renewal announcement came just a few days ago, executive producer Jon Steinberg says “there’s a couple of scripts” already in the works.
“They’re in really good shape. I think starting to boot up this machine again is an undertaking. There’s a lot of trains leaving the station all at the same time. But I think we’re feeling really good about creative and about how to plan for how to tell the stories,” he added during the Disney+ series’ panel at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
As with Season 1, Steinberg and executive producer Dan Shotz assured that they are leaning heavily on the book to tell the story. They will also rely on author Rick Riordan and his wife, executive producer Becky Riordan, to adapt Sea of Monsters.

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians team isn’t quite ready to look for a new Zeus.
In the Season 1 finale of the Disney+ series, the late Lance Reddick played the Greek god in an extensive scene with series lead Walker Scobell, as Percy faces Zeus atop Mount Olympus. It was one of his final on-screen roles.
Zeus has a presence throughout all five of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels.
“I don’t think anybody’s there yet,” executive producer Jon Steinberg told reporters of recasting the role ahead of Season 2, which has already been given the green light. “There’s also just a little bit of denial, I think. That’s something that we’re gonna have to deal with. But we’re incredibly grateful for this character that he helped build and the presence that he created. I do not envy whoever has to step into his shoes.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians concluded its first season on Disney+ with a blend of critical acclaim and fan approval, successfully translating Rick Riordan‘s beloved book series into a visual spectacle that both newcomers and longtime fans could appreciate. With its thoughtful adaptation of The Lightning Thief, the series not only captured the character and story of Percy Jackson’s world well but also set a high bar for future adaptations within the franchise. While incorporating the first book into eight episodes still at times felt stuffed, the overall adaptation wasn’t all that bad. The final and eighth episode, of Percy Jackson...

In a couple of months, it will be a year since we lost the late, great Lance Reddick. His passing was a shock as it came so suddenly, and at a time where he had incredible works on the horizon. We haven’t even seen the last of his work as he’s due to make a cameo appearance as his John Wick character, Charon, in the spin-off Ballerina. He can recently be seen in the Disney+ show, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, where he fittingly portrays the Greek God, Zeus. Reddick would finish filming the first season just before his untimely passing.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians would finally premiere on Disney+, and the season finale featured an epic conflict with Zeus on the top of Mount Olympus. Deadline reports that the show would pay tribute to the late actor by closing out with a title card that read,...

[This story contains spoilers for the season finale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+.]
Percy Jackson completed his quest.
The season finale of Percy Jackson and the Olympians finds the title character (Walker Scobell) confronting two powerful Greek gods, sharing emotional scenes with both of his parents — and discovering that there might be more challenges to come. In keeping with the structure of The Lightning Thief, the Rick Riordan novel that’s the source material for this season, the finale showcases several high-stakes scenes that all feel like climaxes to the story, only to build to another big moment.
First, Percy faces down Ares (Adam Copeland) in hopes of retrieving Hades’ helm and preventing an all-out war among the gods and its disastrous consequences for humanity. After successfully taking on the god of war — with a little help from the sea — he travels to Olympus to return the master bolt to Zeus (Lance Reddick, in one of his final acting roles before his death...

While the series is not yet renewed, the young star has shared his hopes for the potential second season with TV Insider ahead of the Season 1 finale, debuting on Tuesday, January 30 at 9/8c on Disney+. Author/series co-creator Rick Riordan has said that the dream plan for the Percy Jackson series is to have five seasons, one for each of his five Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels. Season 1 has covered the events of The Lightning Thief, and Season 2 would cover book two, The Sea of Monsters. Both of these books were already made into movies in 2010 and 2013, but the show has so far been a more loyal adaptation of the book material. The official Sea of Monsters book description reads: “When Thalia’s tree is mysteriously poisoned, ...

Who better to answer questions about Percy Jackson and the Olympians than Rick Riordan? The author of the beloved book franchise (who has another Percy Jackson book coming out in September) is an executive producer, co-creator, and writer on the Disney+ series, making him the expert to turn to for burning questions. Percy Jackson fans submitted questions for Riordan to TV Insider ahead of Season 1’s debut in December, and he happily answers them in the video above. Some of the topics on fans’ minds were creative process questions, like how he chooses names for his characters and creating new scenes for the show that weren’t in the book. “Sometimes they just come to me,” Riordan says, above. “Like Percy Jackson [Walker Scobell]. Why Percy Jackson? Well, Percy is short for Perseus. But Jackson, why? I don’t know, it just sounded good!” As for the story’s heroine,...

Toby Stephens‘ Poseidon will make his series debut in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Episode 7 on Tuesday, January 23, on Disney+. The streaming gods have smiled on Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
The Disney+ series based on author Rick Riordan’s best-selling books opened to a good-sized audience in the week before Christmas. The first two episodes, which debuted the evening of Dec. 19, drew about 572 million minutes of watch time, according to Nielsen’s streaming ratings. With a combined run time of 80 minutes, that works out to about 7.15 million complete runs (or “views” as currently defined by much of the industry) of the two episodes in the United States.
Disney had earlier said that the first episode had earned 13.3 million views worldwide — equivalent to a little more than 505 million minutes — over its first six days. The Nielsen figures for the premiere put Percy Jackson ahead of Disney+’s last two Marvel premieres, Secret Invasion (461 million minutes) and season two of Loki (446 million), in total viewing time.
Prime Video’s Reacher moved up to the overall No.
