Despite Kevin Feigeʼs tireless efforts to keep the cogs of the megalomaniacal Marvel universe running, some of the products like the star-studded Eternals come out a bit worse for the wear and bear the brunt of the fans who remain dejected with the performance of the Phase Four era.
The quality of projects originating in the post-Endgame saga of the MCU have performed categorically worse in the recent past. Regardless, not many original projects coming out of that Phase have received the sequel treatment.

Moreover, the studioʼs stagnating state of work neither shows improvement nor the desire to achieve it, making it difficult to accept Marvelʼs decision regarding a Phase Four film sequel.

Simply doing a literal red carpet for a red carpet event isn’t enough anymore. Especially when it’s a party as big as the Met Gala.
Each year, the Met Gala rolls out a new carpet design that’s inspired by the theme of the evening.
This year, the star-studded crowd, which includes co-chairs Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth, is walking up steps that are covered in a cream color with mossy green accents along the sides.
The design choice is in keeping with the dress code of the 2024 Met Gala, “The Garden of Time,” which is inspired by a J.G. Ballard story.
Meanwhile, the sides of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s storied steps are lined with greenery-covered barriers between the stars and photographers and reporters, and the walls are painted with forest scenes that look like they could be out of an old masters painting.

While it might seem inevitable that Hayao Miyazaki’s latest would hit physical disc this year, what’s different is the format we’re talking about. The Boy And The Heron has been announced for DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K — the first Miyazaki film to be offered in a resolution that high. It’s true; none of the other Ghibli notables have hit 4K disc yet. Whether that’s because of rights issues or not, we don’t know, but this one’s new enough to have 4K as an option right from the start. There will be three editions of The Boy And The Heron available, each with two discs: DVD and Blu-Ray, 4K and Blu-Ray, and a limited edition Steelbook (with 4K and Blu-Ray). Each version will contain both the original Japanese track and a new English track starring the voices of Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe,...

Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel was the first step in Zack Snyder’s vision for the Dcu. The director brought it a unique and tonally dark film exploring Clark Kent’s evolution into becoming more human and his past catching up to haunt him. The dark and somber tone of the film left fans divided although Cavill’s impressive performance as Superman was praised.

Over the years, the film has managed to find more love, and the deconstruction of the character by Snyder has been lauded. The admiration of Snyder’s work has seeped into the MCU with Chloe Zhao taking inspiration from it for how she approached Ikaris in Eternals.

It looks like Crazy Rich Asians 2 is still very much happening, with a shoot reportedly planned for 2025.
2018’s Crazy Rich Asians was a huge hit, and for good reason. Jon M. Chu’s charming romcom, starring Constance Wu and Henry Golding won over audiences and critics alike with its witty humour and genuine, unapologetic romance.
The film was based on Kevin Kwan’s bestselling novel and considering the book spawned two sequels, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, rumours of a sequel to the film have resurfaced often but the projects have not materialised.
Well, there is hope still. Production Weekly (via World Of Reel) reports that Crazy Rich Asians 2 is still on the way and eyeing a 2025 shoot in Malaysia and Singapore. Jon M. Chu, currently busy on post-production for Wicked Part One, is reportedly returning to direct while Amy Wang is penning the script.

Iconic Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki emerged from his self-announced retirement, which began a few years after he made “The Wind Rises” (2013), to tell the autobiographical story of “The Boy and the Heron.” Studio Ghibli president Toshio Suzuki had to reassemble the staff of the production company to complete the task, and the hard work was recognized with the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in March 2024.
The 2023 film added another Oscar to the animation director’s accolades after “Spirited Away” won the Best Animated Feature Oscar in 2011. The Academy Award win will send the film back into theaters for a limited time, and fresh off the win at the beginning of March, the film set two different streaming homes depending on where you live.

It looks as though Eternals 2 is a victim of the Marvel Studios’ ‘make fewer but make them better’ mantra, as reports circulate that the sequel has been scrapped.
This might not be surprising news, but Hollywood scooper Daniel Rpk is reporting that Marvel Studios has abandoned development on a sequel to 2021’s Eternals. A sequel to the film was never officially announced or even publicly discussed, but it’s not surprising that the studio had plans to bring the characters back for another adventure at some point, despite the original film underperforming both critically and commercially.
Eternals was directed by Chloe Zhao, whose profile rose considerably following her acclaimed debut feature, Nomadland. Her superhero film also featured a raft of acting talent including Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani and Barry Keoghan. The final film didn’t hang together well, however, and was met with poor reviews.

Following its victory in the Best Animated Feature category at the 2024 Oscars, The Boy and the Heron will finally be landing on streaming. The movie is set to arrive on Max, the streaming service from HBO, later this year.
The Boy and the Heron was directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary co-founder of Japan’s Studio Ghibli. While the animation house has produced a number of projects over the last decade, this film was the first since 2013’s The Wind Rises to be directed by Miyazaki himself.
The English dub for the movie, advertised as the animation master’s final film, boasts an impressive number of A-list actors, including an impossible to identify Robert Pattinson, Florence Pugh (voicing both the younger and much older version of the same character), Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Mark Hamill, and Gemma Chan.

Under the deal renewal, Max will be the future home of “The Boy and the Heron”; the streaming premiere date on Max will be announced later this year. The hand-drawn, semi-autobiographical film — Miyazaki’s first feature film in 10 years — was produced by Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki and features a musical score from Miyazaki’s longtime collaborator Joe Hisaishi.

2021’s Eternals introduced audiences to a new team of heroes in the MCU. The film boasted a fantastic ensemble cast led by Gemma Chan and Richard Madden. Being helmed by an Oscar-winning director, Chloe Zhao, one expected that the film was going to be one of the best in the franchise, especially with Kevin Feige doubling down on his belief in its quality.
2021’s Eternals was not appreciated by MCU fans
The film received mixed reviews from fans and underperformed at the box office. That has been a bit of a constant for the MCU for the past 2 years. With Jonathan Majors now out as Kang, a sequel to Eternals can introduce a powerful villain who is as threatening as Thanos and can be the MCU’s replacement for Kang.

Hayao Miyazaki’s “The Boy and the Heron,” likely his final film, has won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature.
It’s Miyazaki’s second Oscar after the Japanese animation master won for “Spirited Away” in 2002. Miyazaki is the most nominated director in the Best Animated Feature category (tied with Pete Docter) with four nominations, including for “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “The Wind Rises.” Miyazaki is now also the oldest winner in the category ever, at 83, with the previous record holder being Mark Gustafson for “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.”
“The Boy and the Heron” beat out an impressive field that included Pixar entry “Elemental,” Neon’s “Robot Dreams,” Netflix’s “Nimona,” and Sony’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” the follow-up to the Oscar-winning “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” from 2018.

Eternals 2: ‘Eros’ Harry Styles & Others Will Go Up Against A Variant Of Thanos, Claims A Report (Picture Credit: Facebook & IMDb)
Chloe Zhao directed Eternals had an ensemble cast, but it failed to impress the fans like other MCU movies. The first part came out in 2021, and it has been almost three years. A social media report has shared a new update on Eternals 2. The first film featured Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Kit Harrington, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Barry Keoghan and others. It also introduced Harry Styles as Eros, Thanos’s brother.
The MCU introduced the Eternals and explained, despite being such powerful beings, why they did not interfere when Thanos invaded Earth or the other bad things that happened over the centuries. The Celestials created them, and their primary enemies are the Deviants. The fictional race of humanoids was created by Jack Kirby in 1976. Keep scrolling for more.

After a deal couldn’t be made for David Leitch to direct, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have moved fast as the studio is in final negotiations for Rogue One director Gareth Edwards to helm a new Jurassic World movie. The studio recently dated the pic to bow on July 2, 2025 and moved fast to find a director with Edwards spending all of last week meeting with execs. After impressing producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall, who helped launch the franchise in the 90s, an offer soon followed and pre-production is expected to ramp up once a deal is sealed.
The new movie will be a completely fresh take on a Jurassic era with Jurassic World castmembers Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy’s thespians Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill. David Koepp penned the script.

You get the feeling from talking to four of the Oscar-nominated members from the sound team of the sci-fi action thriller “The Creator” – supervising sound editor/sound designers Erik Aadahl and Ethan Van der Ryn, sound mixer Ian Voigt and rerecording mixer Tom Ozanich – that they have never been through anything quite like the adventure they just experienced providing the sonics for this feature. It was shot on location in many countries throughout Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, the director Gareth Edwards eschewing backlot and green screen while recreating the vibe of a small indie production. “We shot it guerilla style, but then fuse all of this technology into what looks and sounds like a $300 million movie but isn’t,” stresses Aadahl.
“Sonically, Gareth wanted to combine this sort of realism using the actual sounds of nature in all of these different countries with the very...

In a review, Rolling Stone warned moviegoers that the 2021 Marvel movie Eternals “will bore you to death.” Moviegoers were somewhat kinder, giving the picture a solid C+, or 77 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and they spent close to $165 million domestically to see it, according to The Numbers. But the stigma of being associated with one of the meh-est Marvel movies weighed heavily on one of its stars, Kumail Nanjiani, who entered therapy when critics turned on it.

The 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Eternals,” directed by Oscar-winner Chloé Zhao, was among the first in that series to meet predominantly negative reviews. Following part one of our 2024 preview, we’re counting down our 50 most-anticipated films of the year.
50. The Actor (Duke Johnson)
Duke Johnson, one half of the directing duo behind Anomalisa, makes his solo directorial (and live-action) debut with The Actor. For being based on the posthumously published novel from Donald E. Westlake, a synopsis points towards an amnesia thriller with André Holland as a New York City actor beaten and stranded in 1950s Ohio. Gemma Chan and Toby Jones co-star. As a state native I’m intrigued how they shot Budapest for small-town Ohio––the two don’t exactly scream perfect matches, but I won’t doubt the movie magic before I see it. Anomalisa was a wholly original stop-motion feature; we’re intrigued how Johnson continues that creativity in the live-action realm. – Caleb H.
49. Presence (Steven Soderbergh)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe hit what was viewed as something of a stumbling block with the release of Eternals in 2021.
Starring the likes of Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek, the movie was not the sort of overwhelming blockbuster success that many other movies have been for the MCU.
Two years after the movie’s release, any plans for a sequel have been seemingly tabled for the moment. However, we are now learning about a different version of the story that almost made it to our TV screens.

News broke in 2015 that John Ridley, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “12 Years of Slave,” was joining the Marvel family to develop a mystery superhero project for ABC. The network was already home to Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” at the time, and a spinoff series had just been announced prior to the Ridley news. Ridley was already a favorite at the network thanks to the acclaim for his anthology series “American Crime.” Suffice to say, Ridley’s Marvel project never happened.
Flash forward eight years, and Ridley finally revealed on the “Comic Book Club” podcast that he was developing an “Eternals” television series for Marvel long before the studio decided to make an “Eternals” movie with director Chloé Zhao and a cast that included Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Barry Keoghan, Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie and more.

John Ridley revealed that his scrapped Marvel project from nearly a decade ago was actually based on the Eternals.
The Oscar winner said during a recent appearance on the Comic Book Club podcast that while the TV series he was developing at ABC in 2015 is “not in the works anymore,” it was a “television version of The Eternals, but good.”
“My version or the good version was so fucking weird,” Ridley recalled. “There was my version, a good version, which is good to me, which doesn’t mean anything. There was the version that [Marvel] ended up doing, which I don’t think that version was particularly good. I’ll be honest.”
A few years later, Marvel Studios produced the film Eternals in 2021, directed by Chloé Zhao and featuring a star-studded cast including Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, Kit Harington and Richard Madden. The movie followed the Eternals,...

John Ridley is finally opening up about the Marvel series he was developing at ABC back in 2015.
The Oscar winner made an appearance on the Comic Book Club podcast, where he revealed the Marvel property he had been working on, and it had to do with Eternals.
“It’s not in the works anymore,” Ridley revealed. “It was a television version of The Eternals… But good.”
At the time, Marvel Television was producing shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Netflix’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, among others. The television arm of Marvel Entertainment was incorporated into the Marvel Studios group and the Eternals series was scrapped.
“My version was the good version,” Ridley said. “It was so f***ing weird. There was my version, a good version, which is good to me, which — that doesn’t mean anything. There was the version that [Marvel] ended up doing, which I don’t think…...

2023 may not have been an excellent year for movies, but in spite of everything stacked against it (read: greedy conglomerates run amok), it turned out to be an excellent year of movies. While the fallout of the recent work stoppages will be felt for time to come, some of 2023’s losses will prove to be 2024’s gains, as much-anticipated but strike-delayed films like “Dune: Part Two,” “Drive-Away Dolls,” and Luca Guadagnino’s horny tennis drama “Challengers” have all secured fresh release dates in the first half of the new year.
Those titles will be joined by some of the most promising Hollywood blockbusters in recent memory, must-see work from some of the world’s greatest auteurs, and huge swings from essential artists ranging from new voices like Jane Schoenbrun (“I Saw the TV Glow”) and Duke Johnson (“The Actor”) to venerated masters like Francis Ford Coppola (“Megalopolis”) and Mike Leigh...
