Seth Meyers’ comedy style and tastes have changed in the past decade, or at least since he created adult animated series “The Awesomes.”
The late night host said during his podcast “The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast” with fellow “SNL” alums Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone that “The Awesomes” was unnecessarily R-rated.
The Hulu series, which was co-created by Meyers and Michael Shoemaker and executive produced by Lorne Michaels, ran for 30 episodes from 2013 to 2015. The show satirized the superhero world and starred Meyers, Bill Hader, Rashida Jones, Ike Barinholtz, Steve Higgins, Bobby Lee, Kenan Thompson, and Paula Pell, among a slew of guest stars.
“There’s just too many bleeps, and now I have a 7-year-old who loves it,” Meyers said. “It was trying to be too cool and we didn’t need to be…It’s such a drag now because my son really likes watching...

The full ensemble cast is announced for the remake of 1989’s The War Of The Roses which will star Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch.
It’s been just over a month since we learned that Jay Roach would be remaking the 1989 relationship comedy, War Of The Roses and we now have a fuller idea of what the film’s cast looks like.
We already knew that the new adaptation would be starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman as the central couple, who just like Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner in the 1989 original, proceed with a nasty yet entertaining divorce.
A fresh report (via Deadline) has now confirmed that the film’s cast will be rounded out by Kate McKinnon, Andy Samberg and Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa.
McKinnon and Samberg are both established comedy stars who’ve led films themselves, so grabbing them both in supporting roles is a real coup.

When Saturday Night Live began, it wasn’t even called Saturday Night Live. That honor belonged to a rival variety show hosted by Howard Cosell that launched the same year on ABC primetime. Hence why the young, hungry, and immensely talented sketch comedians assembled in 1975 were dubbed the “Not Ready for Primetime Players.”
That earliest and now quasi-mythical first class of SNL alumni remain the only ones to hold that title. Perhaps this is because the joke stopped working after many of them proved more than capable of carrying a primetime television series. In fact, most of them went on to have successful careers on TV, the Broadway stage, and for the precious and most spectacular few… in the movies.
Ever since Chevy Chase exited SNL after its first season, the series has been viewed—sometimes to creator and producer Lorne Michaels and NBC executives’ consternation—as a launchpad for movie stardom.

NBC is rolling out the red carpet to celebrate Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary.
Ahead of its upfront presentation next week to Madison Avenue ad buyers, the network on Friday announced that it has scheduled a three-hour primetime special to honor the anniversary. The special, which will also be live, is set to air Sunday, Feb. 16, from 8-11 p.m. Et.
That will cap what NBC says will be a “celebratory weekend” honoring the Lorne Michaels-created sketch show.
Additional details have not yet been announced as Michaels and company are in the home stretch of closing out SNL’s 49th season with alum Maya Rudolph set to host this weekend and Jake Gyllenhaal on deck for the May 18 season finale.
News that NBC would formally celebrate SNL’s 50th anniversary comes as no surprise as Michaels said last January that he was already planning for the February event.

Steve Martin’s 2006 Saturday Night Live hosting assignment still stands out for Seth Meyers, Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone. But not for the right reasons.
On Monday’s April 29 episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast, the team talked about the surfer sketch they worked on for Martin.
Meyers said he thinks about it “all the time, mostly because every time I see Steve Martin, he brings it up.”
He asked his co-hosts to explain the sketch, “Surf meeting,” noting, “You guys wrote it.”
“‘Surf meeting’ was a classic format for us, which was one person sucking and not being able to take a hit over and over and over again, like way too many times,” said Samberg. In the sketch, Samberg asks Martin’s character, who’s “in an old-timey bathing suit looking super dorkish,” to leave.

We've seen Kate Winslet play real people on screen before, including Mary Anning and Iris Murdoch, but for Lee, she's diving into a combination of internal drama and devastating scenes of war. The first trailer for the drama is now online and you can see it below:
Eschewing the cradle-to-grave treatment, the film, directed by award-winning Cinematographer Ellen Kuras, follows a pivotal, explosive (in more ways than one) decade in the life of American war correspondent and photographer Miller, who swapped the life of a runway model for a dangerous existence on the front lines of World War II.
Her talent and unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century's most indelible images of war, including an iconic photo of Miller herself, posing defiantly in Hitler's private bathtub. And she did all that while battling childhood trauma and paying a huge personal price.
The cast for this one also includes Josh O’Connor,...

The trailer for Kate Winslet’s biopic about World War II correspondent photographer Lee Miller, Lee, shows Winslet struggling to hold a camera as bombs explode around her. Wearing a soldier’s helmet, she looks shaken and scared as she questions her life choices in voiceover: “Why does it matter? They’re just pictures.” But the emotion on her face and the trauma she subjects herself to for the pictures suggests the film, which opens in theaters on Sept. 27, will present a nuanced portrait of the photographer.

Kate Winslet went all in for her portrayal of war correspondent and photographer Lee Miller.
As the lead star and producer of the eponymous biopic “Lee,” Winslet dedicated herself to embodying Miller’s tenacity both onscreen and off. Oscar winner Winslet personally paid the crew’s salaries for two weeks during the indie film shoot, with the feature being helmed by former collaborator and famed cinematographer Ellen Kuras.
“Lee” charts a pivotal decade in the life of American war correspondent and photographer Lee Miller (Kate Winslet) including her work during WWII. The film shows how Miller lived her life at full-throttle in pursuit of truth, for which she paid a huge personal price, forcing her to confront a traumatic and deeply buried secret from her childhood.

Kate Winslet‘s Lee finally has a debut teaser trailer.
Lee begins in the late 1930s, as Hitler amasses power in Germany. Miller (Winslet) leaves her world and her artistic circle of friends behind in France, and travels to London, having fallen wildly in love with the art dealer Roland Penrose (Alexander Skarsgård). The two embark on a passionate relationship, then war breaks out in Europe. Already a renowned photographer, Miller gains a job completing assignments for British Vogue, but is shocked by the restrictions placed on female photographers. As Hitler’s regime takes over Europe, Miller grows increasingly frustrated that her work is constrained by patriarchal rules, leaving her documenting the British home front. Determined to be where the action is she defiantly pushes against the establishment and with the blessing of her friend and editor Audrey Withers (Andrea Riseborough), Miller overcomes enormous obstacles and gets herself to the frontline of World War II.

Kate Winslet clearly enjoys trading her traditional movie star beauty to play tough, life-hardened women (see: Mare Of Easttown). It makes her well-suited to star as Lee Miller, who traded her own comfortable life as a model-turned-fashion photographer to become a photojournalist on the ground in World War II.

The 41st annual PaleyFest LA celebrated the 10-year anniversary of NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Monday, April 15 at The Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. A panel discussion moderated by Andy Samberg honored the accomplishments of his longtime friend Seth Meyers. Watch Gold Derby associate editor Latasha Ford interview both of them above or read the full transcript below.
See John Larroquette (‘Night Court’) on being an Emmy legend with 4 consecutive wins before dropping out of the race
Latasha Ford:
So first and foremost, congratulations on making it to the 10 year mark.
Seth Meyers:
Thank you.
Latasha Ford:
What does this moment feel like for you? I’ll definitely start with you, Seth.
Seth Meyers:
I will only say that it feels like any other show week. You just do the show and then the great thing about doing a show for 10 years is you get to start on your 11th year.

Hitting 10 years as host of NBC’s Late Night, Seth Meyers has learned many lessons along the way. The biggest among them? The ability to be “as nimble as possible,” according to the late night host.
He has learned not to “marry yourself to an idea before the show actually tapes,” Meyers told The Hollywood Reporter during a special PaleyFest event Monday night. The host joined pal and the evening’s moderator Andy Samberg at the Dolby Theatre for a conversation looking back at the beginning of his Late Night journey and the highlights along the way.
After a video introduction of the popular Late Night segment “Day Drinking With Seth,” Meyers and Samberg took the stage, jumping right into conversation. Samberg asked Meyers to look back at the beginning of the show in 2014 and the process he went through to land the gig.

Filmmaking collective Radio Silence says a script for Ready Or Not 2 has been written, and that it’s “an absolute f—ing banger.”
Confirming an earlier rumour that a sequel to 2019’s Ready Or Not is in development, the filmmakers collectively known as Radio Silence have said that a script has already been written. They also add that the screenplay is rather good – or a “an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel,” to quote one of them directly.
We’re guessing the censored bit was ‘flaming’ or perhaps ‘flipping’.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine alumna Melissa Fumero, AnnaSophia Robb (The Act) and Ben Rappaport (For the People) are set as leads in Grosse Pointe Garden Society, NBC’s drama pilot from Jenna Bans, Bill Krebs and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
The drama follows four members of a suburban garden club — three of them played by Fumero, Robb and Rappaport — all from different walks of life, who get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.
Fumero plays Birdie. Entitled, rich, swathed in Chanel, a smoker, a drinker, self-destructive at times, toxic at others, but not without real pain beneath her facade, Birdie is a successful author whose memoir, “Digging for Gold: Dancing Through Divorce,” is a bestseller.

The video got the attention of current SNL cast member Sarah Sherman, who reshared it on X (formerly Twitter) and added, “I just found out I’m not hot. Please give me and my family space to grieve privately and uglily at this time.”

Lorne Michaels is an expert at celebrating the legacy of “Saturday Night Live.” The show’s creator has produced variety specials for the NBC program’s 15th anniversary, 25th anniversary and 40th anniversary, so the upcoming 50th season should have a highly entertaining spectacle. Nothing less than a three-hour event would be expected, but how else should “SNL” celebrate the golden anniversary season, which would begin in the autumn of 2024 and continue through May, 2025?
Here is our exciting, fun suggestion for a way to go above and beyond for the live special. Over the course of a 20-22 episode season, NBC would certainly have almost every episode featuring the current cast along with hot guest hosts and musical guests. However, for the other five episodes spread out over several months, devote an entire 90 minutes to each previous decade. Invite back the biggest cast members from a decade along with well-known guest hosts and music stars.

Drew Barrymore had Maya Rudolph as a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show and recalled she had to beg to do the Saturday Night Live digital short “Body Fuzion.”
The daytime show host recalled that back in 2007, she had to plead to do the skit that parodied ’80s workout videos. Lonely Island, consisting of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer, produced the skit that almost didn’t happen.
“I remember that week that Akiva, Jorma, and Andy were like, ‘You know what? We aren’t going to do a short this week,'” Barrymore recalled. “And I was like, no, no, no, no.”
Rudolph noted that “those were early days before they had to do one every single week because they were so good.”
“I kept begging,” Barrymore added. “I would go into their office every single day and I was like, I know it’s me again.”

TV crossovers and interconnected universes are the best things when it comes to fandom. But they can be super tricky, for it involves combining separate ongoing storylines into one project. It’s a daunting task for the creative group, which if not done correctly can end up being like Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl and Brooklyn 99 crossover.
Zooey Deschanel as Jessica Day in New Girl
Although people appreciated watching Zooey Deschanel in Brooklyn 99, it wasn’t a great idea to combine the comedy styles of the two shows. Further, what created the biggest mess out of the crossover was featuring the same actors in different roles in the two shows.
